Part 2 in my Butterfly Effect Series:
After they get home from rescuing Frank from the crystal, the Hardy Boys aren't able to move past the events as quickly as they would like. Instead, both boys are haunted by the memories of what happened. Joe has a nightmare, which sends Frank further in to a guilt spiral.
aka the boys are human and are actually affected by the events and traumas they experience and don't brush past them.

They had returned the bolt, and the helm. Now, they were waiting to meet with Chiron to tell him about Clarisse. The best time would be before the celebrations began. When everyone would be running around doing last minute preparations for it, so that no one would notice that Percy, Luke, and Chiron weren’t there. Or at least Percy thought that was the plan. Now, now he isn’t so sure.
