“Uh,” Kara says eloquently, and then promptly forgets everything and anything and all acceptable social behavior. The whole six shots of vodka thing also does not seem to help, and her next words slip out without any sort of permission. “Your curtains are ugly.”
The pretty lady stares at her in disbelief. Her eyes are a very pretty color, like the sea or the sky or a green Jolly Rancher. “You woke me up at two in the morning to tell me that my curtains are ugly.”
Kara considers this. “Yes.”

He’s heard stories about Anne Lister, his mysterious neighbor from Shibden Hall. The rumors of her being the female version a libertine, a lothario run rampant throughout Halifax, precede her. But he’s also heard about her reputation as an outstanding project manager and a clever businesswoman. He’s willing to forego his personal opinions on the rumors of her sexual prowess if he can get a quality product out of her. Besides, he has nothing to worry about with his daughters. After all, the eldest is married, and the youngest all but engaged.’
