“Mood swings” is something that’s easier to conceptualize on paper. Tidily packed into a list of side-effects, something that’s easy to imagine and visualize. Temporary misbehaviors, brief and quickly returning to normal.

Summary
Jason is so scared of the Joker that he can’t breathe when he thinks about him, can barely even stand, so he takes his former moniker of Red Hood and wears his face until his heart stops pounding.
Guns remind him of his father, make him so sad and angry that he wants to die, so he carries those too. Explosions terrify him, so he plays with bombs, plants one in his helmet right where it will kill him if he goes off.
