Once Ed's finished making his drink, he places it on the counter and then crouches down before Roy can get a word of thanks out. When he pops his golden head back up, he's holding a bakery box. Ed places it next to Roy's drink.
"What's this?"
"A surprise." Ed's grin is brighter than the sun gleaming in through the shop's large windows and yet again Roy finds his breath stolen.

When he'd left Resembool a few days ago, the first breath of spring was already causing the flowers to bloom and the trees to grow green once more, but it's not like the North cares about what season it's supposed to be. Anyway. Fuck. That's not important. The point is that it's cold and wet and Ed really hopes he's actually going in the right direction. If he freezes in the middle of all this snow before he gets to see Roy again, he's going to find some way to set the Gate on fire.
