Summary
INLAND EMPIRE – There is symbolism in objects, but only what we put there. It changes depending on your perspective. Can you imagine the symbolism wrapping an entire world? An isola? A country?
SHIVERS – A city? Sprawling, vast… breathing, twinned along the banks of a river. Many-lobed, connected by bronchial twists and turns. Congested with traffic but flowing with life.
INLAND EMPIRE – Watch as if it were a film reel, caught on tape and forgotten in an archive. We can wrap it in a conversation, because some things need the context of familiarity – filtered through a mind that is uniquely suited to giving it the meaning it never possessed. Something so open to every thing and every impulse, every idea, that it's forced to wrap it up in turn – in shapes, in voices, in names.
