Summary
It’s clear Fang Pingzhai has no desire to yield either. Emboldened, he puts both hands on Tang Lici’s waist, so brazen and nonchalant it’s as if Tang Lici himself had invited it. Tang Lici glances down at them, then meets Fang Pingzhai’s gaze with obvious approval.
“Tang Kezun,” says Fang Pingzhai. “Don’t you know you have that effect on people? You fascinate me.”
Tang Lici curls his fingers into the front of his robes and tugs him into himself to bring their hips fully flush. It feels good, the full-body contact heightening his arousal with the promise of more to come, and it puts a spark of something heated in Fang Pingzhai’s eyes.
(Late at night, after Fang Pingzhai talks to Zhong Chunji and Tang Lici sends a letter, paths cross)

Summary
“I think you and I are aligned on many things,” Shao Yanping says, his eyes bright as he meets and holds his gaze over his teacup. “If everyone is on the same page, aren’t romance and pleasure best enjoyed freely with those we like most?”
Tang Lici tilts his head in consideration, trying to decide exactly how layered this comment is intended to be.
“Shao Jianzhu. Are you propositioning me?”
Shao Yanping smiles, waving a hand to dismiss the notion.
“No, no. Of course not.” Despite coming here with no expectation of anything happening between them, Tang Lici is surprised at the pang of disappointment he feels at being denied something he hadn’t realised he wanted so keenly in the first place. “Although,” Shao Yanping adds, leaning closer, “were I a decade or two younger, I’d certainly stop at nothing to tempt you into my bed. Or anywhere else you might be willing, for that matter.”

Summary
Meng Yao snorts. “So the favor you’re asking of me is to spend- how long exactly?”
“A week.”
“-A week with my ex-boyfriend who hates me and is determined to steal the man I love out from underneath me?”
Jin Zixuan has the decency to pause for a moment, at least, before he manages to find a backbone and nod, “Yes. A-Yao, don’t you see? You’re the, uh- um… what’s that thing they put at the top of an arch to hold it in place?”
Meng Yao pinches the bridge of his nose. “The keystone.”
“Yes!” Jin Zixuan snaps. “You’re the keystone! If you don’t agree to go, then no one is going to agree to go, and then Jiang Yanli won’t go, and then I’ll never be able to tell her how I feel.”
-----
Or, the story of how love, friendships, and families grow across the years. All centered in a multimillion dollar house in The Hamptons.

Summary
Meng Yao had finally achieved the pinnacle of power: he was the viceroy of Emperor Wen Ruohan, who conquered the cultivation world years ago - the Nie sect heirs having disappeared without a trace, the Jin compromised, the Lan crushed, the Jiang destroyed - and the Emperor had left him in complete charge in his absence.
Unfortunately, complete charge meant a complete headache. How was he supposed to get anything done when everyone else was scheming against him all the time? He needed help, and good help was so hard to find.
"Hold this," he said to a passing guard - something of a giant, with a tall frame, strong back, and broad shoulders, and handsome features to boot; just Meng Yao’s type. "It’s not that difficult. I only need your arms, not your brain, so just – do it. Whatever your name is!”
“A-Jue,” the guard said. “I mostly get called A-Jue.”

Summary
“I wanted to kill him,” Meng Yao said. He’s kneeling by Wen Ruohan's body, staring at it blankly.
“I wanted you to have not killed my Nie cultivators,” Nie Mingjue said. He was kneeling, too, more out of exhaustion than anything else; Baxia was in his hand, but he couldn’t even get up the energy form a fist around her hilt. “Or your supervisor, back at Langya. We don’t always get what we want, do we?”
