With Ichiko, it happened by accident; at one point, while they were talking about something detached, her fingers touched it. But no bad thing happened, and Ichiko said nothing, continuing to talk about all sorts of things. Maybe it was Ichiko’s lack of interest that calmed Chihiro.

He hears the rumors before he sees the man attached to them, and that's always how it goes with the good ones; some idiot in a bar mutters something over cheap sake, and by the time it reaches Sojo it's been chewed up by six mouths too stupid to know what they're describing, and still—something in it snags.
A blade nobody's registered. Definitely not Rokuhira’s six, not anything logged, not anything any smith can put his name to—and yet every sound speaking about it moves wrong, talking about something like it acts like its being told what to do by a hand that's been dead for years.
Sojo works a toothpick between his back teeth, scraping at nothing, and thinks: fuck, don't tell me. Don't you dare tell me it's his.
A stopped clock is right twice a day.
