It would have been easy enough for Geralt to break the ropes that bound him. He could kill the king before the man so much as cried out for help, but in the middle of a camp like this it would make little difference.
Instead he asked, “You know Jaskier, how?”
“That’s…” the king deliberated a moment before deciding on “unimportant.”

Summary
The other man had sunk to his knees in front of him, and finally Jaskier was able to see his face clearly.
The wavy red hair looked duller than it had the last time he’d seen him, slightly tangled. There were dark shadows under his eyes, and an almost healed cut on his forehead. He was wearing a full set of armour, making him look so different than in Jaskier’s memory, but still it was unmistakably him.
Radovid.
“Gods, I’m so sorry..” Radovid’s voice quivered, and Jaskier felt his vision getting blurry again. This time, it wasn’t the dizziness.Jaskier and his companions are taken captive by the Redanian army.

Jaskier accepted, with some reluctance, a position at court in Tretogor, working as a general tutor and music teacher to the son and daughter of King Radovid of Redania. Now he's been here a couple of weeks, and he can confidently say that the children are wonderful and he adores them, and that so far, in general, his new life is Not Too Bad.
He can also confidently say that the king is also wonderful and he really, really wants to... That is, he thinks about him a lot. Too much. WAY too much.
