“You never came,” Kurama said quietly.
“No,” Yomi agreed. “Not when I could have.”
The words hung between them, light as the petals surrounding them, heavy as the cobblestones beneath their feet.
Kurama turned his gaze back to the flowering trees. “And? Does it live up to your imagination?”
Yomi hummed, thoughtful. “Some things do.” There is a slow, pointed pause before he adds, “Some things don’t.”
