“What are you doing out here so early?” Shane finally asks. Ilya doesn’t respond for a few seconds.
“Talking to my mother,” he says. Shane turns his head slightly so that he can place a kiss to Ilya’s bicep.
“That’s sweet,” he whispers. “Do you talk to her often?”
Ilya nearly crushes his cigarette between his fingers. It's been so long since he spoke about his mother to anyone. He's forgotten how to voice his grievances to someone else.

On top of him being disappointed in himself. And probably the woman being disappointed in him and figuring out he was gay again because of how bad he apparently was at having sex with women.
