A Day Off

Summary:

Todoroki and Deku work too much. When they both have a day off they spend it together.

Notes:

hello! I'm glad you clicked on this, I hope you like the story. I mostly wrote it as a nice laid back thing after work. I'm not sure if this is very good but I figured that a simple short fic might be nice.

Work Text:

There was silence in the room. The darkness of night faded as the room slowly filled with light. The soft raise of sunlight entered the room through the gaps in the curtains covering the windows. Midoriya slowly woke up, blinking away the sleep from his eyes. He reached for his phone on the nightstand and turned it on. The bright blue light emitted from the screen hurt a bit to look at. He saw the time and thought to himself that it was still a bit early. He figured he could try to get some more sleep, but he didn't feel tired and would probably just stay lay in bed frustrated. Still laying down he rolled over to face Todoroki. He was curled up in his own sheets, face haft buried in the overstuffed pillow. Midoriya studied his face, unguarded and smoothed out. With a small smile, he gently moved to get out of bed. A slight creak broke the silence of the early morning. Luckily Todoroki didn't seem to mind the noise or shift in the mattress. He simply snuggled further into the bedsheets.

He walked out of their bedroom, still stiff from the minor injuries he had from work yesterday and went to their small bathroom. He splashed his face to wake him up a bit and brushed his teeth. His stomach let out a little gurgle and he remembered that he had skipped dinner after coming home so late. He went out to the living room and to their kitchen if you could call it that. It was mostly a small kitchenette with apartment-sized appliances and limited counter space. Body still heavy after such a long day yesterday he glanced around, opening cabinets and starting a pot of coffee. He checked the fridge and gave a silent thank you to the ‘care packages' of food his mom dropped off ever so often. She always says it’s because she knows they survive cup ramen and protein shakes and he has to say to himself that she's not entirely wrong. He pulled out some eggs and other ingredients from the fridge. He got the pan he needed, started the rice cooker and followed the motion. He started to cook the eggs and toast some bread on the stovetop.
He heard the faint creak of the bed in the other room, something he had to remember to fix, and looked over his shoulder at his sleepy boyfriend.

"I'm making breakfast so go clean your face." He said to him. His eyes were still mostly closed and he scratched his messy hair before hobbling over to the bathroom. Midoriya smiled watching him. Sleepy Shouto was just too cute. "And brush your hair, it's a mess!" He yelled after him. He tired back to the food, taking the toast off the burner and got out plates. He started plating the food and bringing them to the table. Shoto walked out of the bathroom noticeably more awake.

When he entered the kitchen to help plate the food Midoriya took a kitchen towel and waked him lightly. "Nope, go sit down, I can do this."

Shoto frowned at him but moved to the table. "I can't even touch the plates."

Izuku placed the final bowls of rice down and took a seat across from Shoto. "You cannot be trusted, or have you forgotten the three plates you've broken this month."

Shoto pouted at him but didn't deny it. He took a sip of his coffee and dove in. They ate in relative silence, the morning still early and quiet.

Todoroki was moving slower than normal, his eyes haft closed. "Did you sleep well? You came in really late and a little beat up." Midoriya asked concerned.

Todoroki nodded. "I'm fine, it's just going to be a coffee day." He said rasing cup for another sip. "Besides, how could I ever have sleeping problems when I have the perfect pillow." He dodged the bit of toast that Midoriya tossed at him, smiling as he picked it up.

Midoriya placed his haft eaten toast down. "Don't tease me. Seriously though, It's rare that we both get a whole day off at the same time. I wonder what we should do." He looked around their apartment thinking till it hit him.

Todoroki shrugged. "Go back to bed."

"Nope, too bad for you there is something we do have to do," Midoriya said, looking mischevious.

The other man slumped. "Do we have to."

"Yes, it's cleaning time, our house is a mess. We've been busy so now that we have some time we can fix it." He gave the other a pointed look and Todofroki nodded straight up.

"You're right, but I'm going to need more coffee." He finished his cup and went to grab his pates before he was lightly whacked on the hand.

"Don't touch my dishes." He started getting them together and taking them to the kitchen while Todoroki got more coffee. "I think I'll do the kitchen, bathroom, and dust. You sweep the floor and do laundry." He had turned on the sink and started with the dishes while the other went to get the broom.

They worked through their assigned tasks, sweeping the floors and thoroughly scrubbing the bathtub. Midoriya found that he had to leave the bathroom twice to get some air, the strong smell from the cleaner smothering and oxygen in the room. He moved from their bedroom, bedsheets gone to wash, to the living room dusting every surface, frowning at how much had built up. He found and thought to himself that he should lay out a choir calendar or something. He stepped back and looked around just as Todoroki came back in, having hung up the last of the laundry.

He closed the balcony door behind him. "I'm pretty hungry."

Midoriya threw out the dusting pad and sighed. "It is past lunch. I'll see what I can make." He stared into the empty fridge filled only with condiment bottles, some protein shakes, and a single tomato. He'd used everything from his mother's care package for breakfast. He sighed closing it.

"I think we still have some cup ramen."

Midoriya shook his head. "We always eat that. It's a special day, why don't we got to the farmers market and get some food there?"

"Only if we make soba," Todoroki said.

Midoriya waved him away. "Sure, but we have to get changed first."

They got ready and headed out. Both had to dress in crinkled and old clothes as everything they usually wore was still drying.
It was only a few blocks from their apartment to one of the farmer's markets. It was early afternoon and the market was alive with people. Stands and tables filled with produce and handmade products lined the street. The placed was busy with people and families shopping.

Todoroki held Midoriya's hand, so they wouldn't get separated as they walked past tables. He was looking around at the bright colors of the stands and bustling people. They walked past a stall selling jewelry, the women there showing different bracelets to a little boy with his mom.

"Ok so, we're going to need Soba noodles, obviously, and mirin, daikon, and maybe green onions or nori."

"Midoriya," Todoroki said. He looked up. "You were starting to muddle." He had a soft smile on his face, finding his habit endearing.

He blushed and glanced around them to see other people had been looking over at them. He ducked his head and pulled Todoroki along toward one of the bigger produce stales.
They walked around, Todoroki making sure not to let go of him to not get lost in the bustle. They passed handmade beauty products and small bamboo spots in little jars. Midoriya stopped at a large produce table and started to talk adamantly with the vendor leaving Todoroki to sand off to the side and wait. Todoroki heard someone walk up to them.

"Um, excuse me." Said a little boy, anxiously wringing his hands. Todoroki turned toward the kid. "Are you the pro hero Shoto?" He asked.

Todoroki smiled lightly. "Yes, I am."

The little boy's eyes lite up. "I've seen you on tv! You're so cool! Can I have your autograph?" He started to rummage through his bag and pulled out a small notebook and pen. Todoroki took them.

"What is your name?" he asked kindly.

The boy went to answer but was cut off by a loud yell. "Makoto!" a tired young woman with a small bag rushed over to them. "I told you not to run off! And look, you're bothering people." She turned her attention to Todroki. "I'm so sorry sir."

Todoroki shook his head and signed the book. "It's fine, you have a very kind child." He said handing the book and pen back to the boy.

"Hey what’s going on?" asked Midoriya, with a full bag of food and having finished his conversation with the seller. "Oh, it's one of your fans!" He said laughing a bit behind his hand.

The mother looked between them eyes wide. "Oh my, you're the heroes Shoto and Deku. You're amazing, thank you so much for all you do."

Midoriya rubbered his head, messing up his out of control hair. "It's nothing ma'am, just doing our job." The little boy, Makoto, reached out his book and Midoriya took it and wrote a quick message. He didn't like just signing his name so he always put a message with it.

As Makoto excitedly but his things way the mother wrung her hands just like her son had. "I'm so sorry to bother you while you're out, but, would it be too much trouble to ask for a picture?" She said quietly.

"Not at all!" Midoriya said and they all crowed around to get into the lens of her phone.

After taking the photo she and the boy stepped away. "Thank you so much! We'll leave you to your day." Suddenly there was a scream and the flow of people in the market went toward them, people running away from something. Both Todoroki and Midoriya sprang into action. They ran to the epicenter of the commotion. There they saw a stocky man with spicks coming out of his arms running out of a building and into the stales. He was holding something in his aim and used his other to ready what they assumed was an attack on the civilians running away. Todoroki threw up a wall of ice to block small spiky iron balls that sprouted from the skin of his arm and Midoriya jumped into action. Using his quirk, he quickly ran at the villain, landing a single punch to knock him out. The police had been called and they waited by the villain until they arrived and took him into custody. The bag, which had been full of money, was taken as well.

Midoriya sighed looking over at the farmers market that was haft destroyed, colorful stalls were broken to pieces, knickknacks and produce scattered on the floor, jars of honey and decorative hair clips around his feet. The once full and lively street a ghost town. "It looks like shopping is out of the question. Back to cup ramen tonight."

Todoroki rubbed his back. "How about we go out to eat instead? We haven't been out in a while and you said you wanted to try out that new place you read in the magazine a few days ago."

Midoriya light up like a Christmas tree, "That's a great idea!" He leaned up to give Todoroki a quick kiss. "You always know how to cheer me up." He looked up the restaurant on his phone and grabbed his hand. They walked away from the last of the cop cars, following the map instructions.

The late lunch/early dinner was nice, full of Midoriya's babbling and Todoroki throwing in a sentence here and there, the conversation went smoothly and felt comfortable as they ate surprisingly good food.

When they finally made it home Todoroki flopped onto the couch. "So much for a day off." He said into one of the throw pillows.

"The job of a hero is never done," Midoriya said. He wrapped Todoroki on the ass. "And neither is cleaning the house, go bring in the laundry." He went to walk away but was pulled onto the couch, Todoroki snuggling him.

"Stay here." He said into his hair.

Midoriya smiled, enjoying the warmth of his boyfriend. "Laundry, and then we can watch a movie or something."

Todoroki gowned but quickly let go of Midoriya and rolled off the couch. He brought in the clothes while Midoriya scrolled throw the movies to find something to watch. He chose a ridiculous rom-com and leaned into Todoroki when he sat down. "It's been a good day off." He said quietly while the opening credits played.

"I think so too," Todoroki said, pulling Midoriya in tighter.
