Every Flower has its Thorns

Summary:

Things aren't always what they seem. Aizawa knows that. After enough years being a Pro Hero you learn to not be surprised by anything you see.

But, every once in a while you see something that just doesn't fit.

When Aizawa helps with the raid on Overhauls base he found one of these such things that don't quite make sense.
-------------
Otherwise known as the fic where Izumi has been taking care of Eri inside of a large underground garden because what else are you supposed to do when you are trapped in a yakuza base.
-------------
This is my first fanfiction so I apologize if its garbage.

Chapter Text

Aizawa didn’t know how he had gotten himself roped into this mission. He knew that the others could handle it but when he found out some of his students were going to be participating something in him told him he couldn’t turn it down. A little voice kept saying that something bad is going to happen.

So that’s how he found himself inside the tunnels of the yakuza compound. He was making his way into the depths with Sir Nighteye, Lemillion, Bubble girl, and Centipeder by his side.

Their group turns a corner only to be confronted by a singular metal door. Sir Nighteye turns to look back at Lemillion. Without saying a word Lemillion, also known as Mirio, steps through the door. After a few moments, he returns.

“I don’t think you are going to believe me when I tell you what’s in there.” Mirio looks uncertainly up at Sir.

“Do it anyway” Sir glared.

“It’s… a garden”

This made their eyebrows rise “Did you see anyone inside?” Aizawa quipped.

“Just two girls laying in the grass. They were young one couldn’t have been more than 10 and the other looked to be around 5.” Mirio furrowed his eyebrows before continuing. “there were no guards.”

“We should still be careful as we enter” Each member of the team nodded at Sir’s order as they moved to open the door.

What they saw upon entering is not exactly the sight one would expect to see when in the bowels of a yakuza base. The room looked like a wild garden. There was a large willow tree with leaves brushing the dirt in a wall of foliage, it stood perfectly in the center of the room. A small creek running next to it. The roof seemed to be covered in some form of artificial sunlight. The large room’s floor was completely covered in wildflowers. Between the willow’s leaves, one could see an area that looked like it was created for people to live in. There was two bed like structures created from, what looked like, woven grass. There also seemed to be baskets filled with vegetables and fruit.

In front of the old willow sat one girl. There was no second girl to be found. She seemed serene sitting there with her eyes closed. Her curly green hair covered her almost like a cloak, obscuring most of her form from view. Though it was hard to miss the dozens of flowers dotting her hair.

Aizawa leaned over to whisper to Lemillion “Didn’t you say there were two girls?”

Lemillion muttered back “There were.” Neither taking their eyes off the girl.

Sir stepped forward “Are you a member of the Eight Precepts of Death?”

The girl did not open her eyes, but her soft voice rang clear “No and yes.”

Aizawa didn’t hesitate “Are you here by choice?”

“No and yes.”

Aizawa was not amused “Is the other girl still here?”

“No and yes.”

“Why are you avoiding the questions?” He deadpanned.

Her eyes snapped open revealing forest green orbs that look nowhere in particular “I have answered every question you have given me, and I have answered honestly. Have you ever thought that maybe you aren’t asking the correct questions?”

Aizawa narrowed his eyes “Where is the other girl?” She did not respond, she stood and walked to the willow. She pulled aside the leaves and stepped through. The group of Pro heroes and sidekicks followed her inside only to see her climbing the tree with incredible speed. About halfway up the tree, she disappeared inside the trunk. When she reemerged, she held a small girl with white hair and white skin to her chest. She moved to a lower branch on the tree and sat, still holding the girl. She was out of reach but not out of easy speaking range.

The little girl peeked at the group from the older girl’s lap. Her eyes were bright red and she had a horn growing from her left temple. Lemillion took a step toward them and the older girl was on her feet in an instant. With her standing still it was easier to see just how long her hair was. When she stood flat-footed her curls just barely grazed the ground she walked on. She started to back away from the group up the branch. Sir placed a hand on Lemillion’s shoulder and she halted her retreat. Aizawa decided to ask the crucial question.

“Do you want to leave this place?”

That seemed to have caught both girls’ attention. The younger girl’s head tilted up towards the elder’s face.

The greenette kept her face down. “What do you want in return?”

“Your cooperation.” Aizawa knew that Sir had said something to Bubble girl and Centipeder and that the two sidekicks had left the room, but all his attention was on the two girls in front of him. “We will protect you.”

For the first time, the albino girl spoke: “Are they heroes?” Her voice was so quiet that Aizawa barely heard the question.

The Greenette gaze seemed to sweep over them all before stopping just above Aizawa’s head. She whispered “Yes darling dove, the heroes are here now, and they are going to help us fly away. It’s time to see the real sun.” With that, she jumped down from the tree and started to walk back towards the door. Aizawa and Sir exchanged a look before following after them with Lemillion right on their heels.

The greenette stopped at the edge of the flowers and turned around to face the heroes. She held the smaller girl’s leg up for them to see, revealing a black band with a box on it. She raised her eyes brows and Lemillion reached over to break it off her. Lemillion looked at the greenette, she seemed to get the message and put her ankle in his outstretched hand. The three men looked at her with surprise. After she raised her eyebrows at Lemillion Nighteye and Aizawa managed to school their features. Her anklet was different, it was thick all the way around and silver. Lemillion pulled on the piece. When it didn’t budge, he made eye contact with Sir Nighteye. After receiving a nod, Lemillion’s body began to surround itself in blue lightning. The younger girl’s eyes widened as she watched the pretty lights surround him. He broke the offending metal off the greenette’s leg as the lightning began to dissipate.

She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. Upon her exhale the three men could see a ring of green energy move outward from her body in a wave. She opened her eyes and smiled and met their eyes for the first time since they had met her.

Little did they know that all around the compound weaker members of the Eight Precepts of death were dropping to their knees. The heroes throughout the building were forced to watch as beautiful flowers grew from the villains’ flesh. There was nothing they could do but watch as their skin split apart, and their muscles and tendon became useless. Not one died but many wished that they had.

The younger girl began to squirm a little so the greenette let her down and took her hand before walking ahead. Lemillion moved ahead of the two girls while Aizawa and Sir Nighteye stood behind them to form a protective triangle around the newly freed girls. They start to make their way out of the compound and Aizawa and Sir noticed two things. 1. Both girls are barefooted and wearing little more than rags. 2. Everywhere the greenette steps a lush bed of flowers grows to leave a trail and protecting the girl’s feet from the ground.

They walk through the hallways and meet no resistance. The group of five eventually meets back up with Bubble Girl and Centipeder and they join in the protective formation. Centipeder joins Lemillion in the front while Bubble girl takes Aizawa’s place at the back. Aizawa shifts up to walk beside the two girls, walking next to the younger so as to keep larger people on all sides of her.

“Would you mind telling us what your names are?” Aizawa watches them out of the corner of his eye.

She pauses for a moment before saying “Her name is Eri” then quieter “I am called Persephone.”

Aizawa looks at her warily before stating “I asked for your name, I don’t care what they call you.” Her eyes grow wide and as she looks down at the floor he can barely hear her mumble.

“My name is Izumi.” She peeks up at him after she says it.

“Nice to meet you Izumi and Eri. I’m the Pro Hero Eraser Head, that over there is Sir Nighteye with Bubble Girl, and in front of you are Lemillion and Centipeder.”

Izumi hums while Eri says a bright “Nice to meet you.”

They walk in silence for a little longer before Lemillion speaks up. “Does anyone else find it weird that we aren’t running into anyone?”

“The fighting has already stopped.” Izumi states as a matter of fact. All five of the heroes stop walking at that and turn to look at her. Izumi and Eri keep walking for a few paces before they notice the other have stopped walking. “What?” Izumi continues to stare ahead blankly.

Aizawa and Sir narrow their eyes though Sir is the one to make the important question “How do you know that fighting has stopped?”

She turns to them and stares blankly her forest green eyes seeming to glow in the relative darkness “Isn’t it obvious?” when she doesn’t anything from her rescuers, she sighs “You freed me, why would I let them hurt you? It also isn’t particularly productive for them to be getting in our way as we try to leave.”

“If you are implying what I think you are then why didn’t you leave sooner?” Lemillion inquired

“Are you that dumb? The anklets doubled as quirk suppressors and trackers. With that on me even if I did somehow escape, without my quirk how would I defend my self when they found us five minutes later?” She continued to walk pulling Eri’s hand to remind her to walk as well. The rest of the group snapped out of their stupor and resumed walking beside them. They were all silent for the rest of the walk.

When they finally emerged, the group was surrounded by chaos. There were medics everywhere working on row after row of injured criminals, all of whom were handcuffed. There was a line of police cars containing the area and heroes everywhere helping the police with wrapping up the site. Sir snapped his fingers and his three sidekicks moved to help the other heroes.

Izumi picked up Eri and tucked her head into her shoulder. She kept walking forward with Aizawa at her side and Sir Nighteye moving to walk by her other side. Aizawa steered their, now smaller group, towards the ambulances in order to get the two girls checked over. As they walked through the rows of injured Yakuza, Aizawa got a good look at the injuries that they held. He saw the plant life and he wanted to vomit. He also couldn’t help but notice that the Yakuza who were laying closest to their path looked at them in horror when each noticed the flowers that still grew around Izumi’s feet as she walked. Many tried to move away only for their injuries to prevent any movement.

Upon reaching an ambulance treating heroes, Aizawa found some of his students and sat the two girls down between Kirishima, Asui, and Uraraka.
“Watch these two. Don’t freak them out.” And he was off in search of a medical professional. Sir Nighteye stood over the group for all of 10 seconds before he was called by Fat Gum and Ryukyu to talk about how the mission had gone down. This left the 5 youngest people on the premises sitting together in silence. It was Kirishima who eventually broke the Ice.

“Uh…Hi. I’m Red Riot”

“Oh and I’m Uraravity and this is Froppy”

“Hello”

Eri peeked at them from Izumi’s shoulder and blurted out a “Hi” back at them. Which made them all giggle a little.

Izumi set Eri down in her lap and stared off into the distance as she started braiding Eri’s hair.

“I’m Izumi, this is Eri,” Izumi mumbled. “I’m guessing those are your hero names?”

“Yup,” Red Riot said, popping the p “We were part of the mission to take down the Eight Precept of Death.” Izumi leaned down to Eri’s ear and whispered something that the heroes in training couldn’t hear though it wasn’t long before Eri burst out with a loud “thank you”. Izumi giggled quietly before going back to braiding Eri’s hair. When she reached the bottom Izumi tied it off with a flower and proceeded to create flowers in Eri’s braid.

“So…I’m guessing your quick in nature-based, right?” Froppy stated while Uraravity looked at her with star-struck eyes.

Izumi ignored the question and focused on the more important matter at hand.

“I can feel her looking at me?” Izumi said to no one in particular.

“Uh… sorry. Can you fill my hair with flowers like that?” Uraravity said with a slight blush.

She did not raise her head. “Probably not.”

“Aw…Why not?” Uraravity pouts.

“Because Eraser Head is back.” She states as the disheveled man walks up to their group from behind Izumi.

The tired man just sighs and escorts the two girls over to the nurse he had waiting. After a thorough examination, both girls are cleared with perfect health. When they are released the two girls find a man in a long brown trench coat and a fedora waiting with Aizawa.

As soon as he notices the two girls, the new man turns to them to ask “Would either of you be able to tell me how two young girls trapped in the depths of a yakuza base managed to escape without a single injury to speak of?”

The greenette pulled a long lock of hair over her shoulder to play with before telling the strange man “That would be my doing, I don’t like them so I make them disappear.” Aizawa and the man exchange a look before the man introduces himself.

“My name is Detective Tsukaochi and I’m going to try and help you two, ok?”

The two girls nod their heads towards him.

“Well first things first, we’ve all been up all night and everyone needs some sleep before we try to figure things out. Do you two girls have any family that isn’t criminals?” When both girls shook their heads Tsukauchi could hear Aizawa sigh next to him.

“I’m too tired for this, they can sleep at my place for the night and we’ll figure everything else out after they have slept some,” Aizawa states.

“Are you sure?” Tsukauchi’s brows furrow and his lips purse.

“It’ll be fine, I have an extra bed. I’ll bring them to the station tomorrow.” Aizawa deadpans before starting to walk off towards a car, gesturing for the two girls to follow him. After a moment of hesitation, they do.
