Chapter Text
"You've gotta be fucking kidding me!" Bakugou shouts, slamming his hands on the top of his teachers desk.
"I assure you I'm being completely serious." Aizawa retorts, giving him a rather pointed look. "And watch your language, you're speaking with a teacher."
Bakugou huffs, irritation evident from expression.
“Just— Sit down, you’re giving me a headache” He orders, pinching the skin between his eyes in an effort to quell the pain.
Somehow he always manages to remain completely composed in these situations, even when he’s on the receiving end of one of his students' blow outs.
"Just cause of some stupid fucking—"
"Language." Aizawa interrupts.
"—scrap with an extra from the support department?" Bakugou finishes, finally plopping down onto his seat, arms crossed, and looking a little more than displeased.
He rolls his chair closer to his desk, leaning in to greet Bakugou with an intense expression. Surely then the kid would come to understand the seriousness of the situation.
"First of all, it wasn't just a little ‘scrap’, as you so delicately put it. You almost used your quirk on an unarmed support student, Bakugou, this is a completely serious matter."
His student’s expression stayed the same, though there was a hint of remorse he sensed underneath all the irritation. He also suspects that the kid’s sudden quietness as of now was Bakugou’s way of being considerate, and he'd be lying if he said he didn’t appreciate it.
“You do realize this is an suspendible offence, right? What were you thinking?” He finally asks. It’s a question that has been plaguing his mind for the past 45 minutes.
He doesn’t receive an answer though, only what he thinks is an annoyed grunt. But Aizawa supposes he hadn’t really expected to receive a proper explanation anyway.
It’s clear that Bakugou was indeed not thinking, or else he wouldn’t jeopardize his Hero career like that. What concerns him more though, is what exactly went down between the two students for it to result in Bakugou flying off the handle like that.
Sure, Bakugou was easily agitated and maybe borderline hostile at the best of times, but the kid wasn’t recklessly violent, at least not in a professional setting.
Aizawa finally lets himself sigh, and runs a hand through his hair. These kids are going to kill him…
"Well, in any case, You’re lucky. It’s only 1 week of detention, not suspension. Report to my office after school next week and I’ll give you some work. You can handle that can’t you?”
Bakugou isn’t looking at him so he taps his desk to get his attention. This next part is important.
“Listen kid, I know that student from Support provoked you in some way but I need you to have better judgement. If someone’s trying to pick a fight with you, tell a teacher or get a staff member. Do not engage with them, and more importantly, do not use your quirk against them.”
Bakugou glares at him with all the vigour of a dog chained to a fence, and Aizawa wonders if the kid even heard a word he said.
“Am I clear?” He deadpans.
“Tch,” His student clicks his tongue, “Fine, I get it, okay?”
Aizawa feels a sense of relief wash over him once he gets confirmation that his student was not in fact tuning him out this entire time. He lets himself fall back into the spine of his chair.
"There’s no need to make a face, you aren't the only one in class who has detention next week, there will be others joining you."
God knows that there are more trouble makers in his class… He thinks gravely, shifting his gaze to his now booted up computer.
"Great, wasting time in Detention with more morons, fucking peachy. "
"well, who's the 'moron' who got themselves in this situation in the first place, huh?" Aizawa says dully, face never straying from his computer screen.
From his peripheral vision he watches as Bakugou gets up from his chair, and kicks it back slightly behind him. "Whatever! I'm fucking outta here—" Bakugou grumbles as he makes his to the exit.
" Language. " Aizawa supplies, as he drags a hand down his face.
An attitude adjustment is in order, that's for sure…
...
"...Aizawa-sensei,"
He’s pulled out of his thoughts by the sound of his students' voice. He turns to see Bakugou just barely out the door, with a hand rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. It’s what one might call a rare sight.
"I'm uh... sorry for causing fucking trouble or whatever."
Aizawa huffs out something akin to a chuckle. "It’s fine, just remember what I told you, alright? Enjoy your weekend, I’ll be seeing you here first thing on Monday."
"Tch, whatever..." With that, Bakugou is out the door.
For what feels like the hundredth time today, Aizawa finds himself sighing.
What is he going to do with these kids?
“Bakugou!” He hears Shitty hair call out from the common room. “You’re back!”
Great, Bakugou thinks. Just what he needed right now, these morons hanging out in the lounge.
“Woah there man,” the other says, placing a hand on his shoulder. “what’s the rush?”
Bakugou shoves his classmate’s hand off. "Stop acting all 'buddy buddy' with me, bastard"
"Don't be like that man..." Shitty hair makes a face, something akin to a kicked puppy. “We all were just waiting for you actually.”
“Hah?” His face contorts, glancing over to the couch area which was, in fact, festering with all his classmates. He takes special note of the idiot brigade sprawled out on the floor in front of the Tv.
“We thought maybe a movie might cheer you up! After, well, you know…”
Unfortunately, he knows very well what Shitty hair was referring too, which is precisely why he didn’t even consider the idea of watching a fucking movie of all things with his classmates right now.
“We didn’t hear anything that guy said, if that’s what you’re worried about.” His red haired classmate says slightly hushed.
“I’m not worried about shit.” He spits, making a move toward the elevators.
“Is Bakugou coming or what?” He hears Pikachu’s whiney voice ask from behind him.
“I’m working on it,” Shitty hair says with a sigh, and blocks his path.
“Get outta my way, Shitty hair” He grumbles. He’s long past irritated already.
"Dude, It's a Friday night and you don't have anywhere to be, just come have fun with us for once! Even Todoroki is here!"
Sure enough when Bakugou looks over to the TV area, he spots Icyhot sitting upright on the couch next to Glasses and the bird brain.
"I don’t care if the Queen of fucking England is on that couch, I’m not joining your shitty movie club!" He shouts, stuffing his hands back in his pockets just as he’s about to turn to leave.
“Gaahh, classic Bakugou,” Pikachu makes a noise in frustration. “Do something Midoriya!”
Fuck, Bakugou thinks, Deku’s been here this whole time.
“M-me?” Deku stutters, pointing inwardly at himself.
“Yeah, you’ve known him the longest right?” The idiot continues, and Bakugou has half a mind to go over there to rip Pikachu a new one.
Meanwhile, Deku just stares at him like a fish out of water, most likely conjuring up something to say that does not at all allude to what happened earlier this afternoon. They haven’t had time to talk since then, and he’d prefer if it’d stay that way.
“Tch, this is a fucking trainwreck,” He clicks his tounge, and makes a move toward couch, surrendering himself to the stupidity of his classmates.
“So you’ll join?!” Pinky shouts, picking herself up from her place on the floor.
“If it will make you all shut the fuck up, then yes!” He shouts, plopping himself down on the couch.
“Dude…!” Kirishima eclaims, wiping away a faux tear from his eye.
Shitty Hair’s Fucking dramatic as usual.
“Great,” He hears Earphone girl's sardonic voice from the other side of the couch. “now can we start the movie already?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m working on it!” Pikachu whines, placing the disk into the player.
Bakugou can’t help but notice Deku stealing a few glances at him all while the movie’s being set up. In fact, he can practically feel the Nerd’s nervous energy permeating through him all the way from the other side of the couch.
ugh...
“Hurry it up, Dunceface!” He finds himself yelling.
“Okay, okay!”
"Aww what? You’re leaving, Todoroki?"
Bakugou hears someone whine after a good chunk of the movie’s passed.
He watches as IcyHot gets up from his spot on the couch, phone in hand.
"My father is asking to see me, I'll be back soon."
Turns out the voice he heard belonged to Round face, who was now sinking into her pillow with the sound of a sigh. "Aww you didn't get to finish the movie..."
"...Sorry" is all Icyhot offers, wearing his usual dull, steely eyed expression.
“It’s gotten quite late already, are you sure that’s alright?” Glasses questions.
“It’s fine, I’ll probably just end up staying the night anyway.”
“Hmm, well in that case, make sure to alert Mr. Aizawa before you go!”
“Yeah, thanks.” Halfie says lowly, poketing his phone.
“We’re trying to watch a movie here!” Mineta chimes in, shaking his tiny fists angrily at IcyHot.
Half & Half seemingly ignores the comment sent his way, and makes a move toward the exit of the Common area.
“Sorry you guys, I’ll be right back!” He hears Deku chip in, suddenly jogging in IcyHot’s direction.
“Gah! Not you too, Deku!” Round face whines.
What’s up with those two? Bakugou thinks to himself.
...
The movie goes on for about another hour or so.
When it finally finishes the majority of the weirdo’s in his class seemed to divulge into a group discussion pertaining to the contents of the movie, which is something he’d much rather avoid.
“Thanks for the stupid movie,” He annouces, as he gets up from the couch and starts making his way toward the elevators.
"Aw that’s it? We didn’t even get to hear your thoughts!" He hears Shitty hair yell from the couch.
"The movie was shit, there. Happy?" Bakugou yells.
“Gah, Bakugou…” Shitty hair makes a noise of frustration.
He continues his trek to the elevators, all while hearing voices of protest behind him, mostly due to his comment criticizing their precious movie selection.
When the elevator doors eventually open, he walks inside and presses the button to his floor. But to his unfortunate surprise, just as the doors are about to close, a hand gets in the way causing the doors to once again open to reveal none other than Deku.
Fuck.
"Ah, Sorry Kaachan, I was also tired so I thought I wo-"
Bakugou sighs, "Just get inside, Nerd"
Deku obeys, eagerly stepping inside the elevator and pressing the number to his floor.
Just his fucking luck, of course he’d have to share an elevator with the one person he’s been wanting to avoid this whole afternoon.
"So," Deku says hesitantly, breaking the tension in the elevator. “What did Mr. Aizawa end up saying?”
For some reason Bakugou finds himself scratching the back of his head, dreading where this conversation is heading.
“He was pissed,” He says, recalling the dark glare of his teacher when he had canceled his quirk during their little ‘fight’. Mr. Aizawa really did get there just in time, or else he really would have done a number on the other guy. In retrospect, it wasn’t Bakugou’s proudest moment. “But he let me off with one weeks worth of Detention”
He hears Deku hum in acknowledgement from next to him, he doesn’t have to turn to look at the nerd to know he’s wringing his hands in worry.
“I’m sorry,” Deku says, and that’s what it takes for Bakugou to finally look at him. Leave it to Deku to apologize for stupid shit.
“You got in trouble because I didn’t—”
“Shut it,” He interjects, 'cause there’s only so much of the Nerds rambling he can take. “I got in trouble because I was being a jackass, you didn’t do shit.”
Deku goes quiet for a moment after that, and Bakugou imagines that the nerd was filtering through what to say in his brain.
“Besides,” He says, feeling as the Elevator comes to a halt, “The bastard was right,”
Sure, the Bastard had it coming. He thinks, fists clenching in his pockets. But he wasn’t far off.
“Kaachan—”
“This is your floor, right?” Bakugou says, gesturing vaguely at the open elevator doors.
There’s a temporary show of surprise in the others face before recognition sets in.
“Ah, right...”
He watches the gears turn in Deku’s head before the nerd finally decides against saying something else, and moves so that he’s no longer in the elevator.
“Goodnight then, I guess,” Deku says, scratching at the side of his face.
“Yeah,” He says, resisting the urge to spam the ‘close doors’ button just so that this uncomfortable atmosphere could finally end.
He watches as the doors close slowly upon the Nerds awkward face, then finally closing shut, leaving him to meet his own reflection in the metallic surface of the doors.
That guy really never does change… He finds himself thinking on the way up to his room.
“It’s gotta fucking be around here somewhere…” He curses, tossing some old text books across his floor as he trifles through the box.
For one reason or another, Bakugou couldn’t just go to sleep like he initially planned, but instead finds himself sifting through the number of boxed up shit he never got around to unpacking when he first moved to the dorms a couple of weeks ago.
Ah, he thinks, as the tattered corner of a notebook catches his eye. Found it.
Bakugou pulls the thing out, and grips it in his hands, feeling the rough texture of the burnt notebook cover.
‘Hero Analysis for the future’ it reads, and Bakugou finds his eye leading him to the bottom of the notebook where he finds the name of it’s owner. ‘Izuku Midoriya’
He didn’t throw it away.
Bakugou never really knew why, but he kept it. Maybe it was because he had already blown up number 1 through 12 of the nerds' other notebooks, but figured that No. 13 would be like some kind of fucked up trophy.
Or maybe he just did it for the hell of it.
That sounds like something middle school me would do… He curses, bending the book open to reveal it’s withered contents.
He hasn’t looked at it in a while either, not since the dorms anyway. Frankly he doesn’t even know why he packed it in with his shit. A mistake maybe? Guilt? He doesn’t fucking know.
For not the first time, Bakugou cringes at the pages filled with neat handwriting and hard work, knowing very well that he’s blown shit like this up more times than he can count.
He pictures a younger Deku, still in his middle school uniform, spending hours writing all this shit down. Desperation seeping from his expression.
Then he pictures his younger self, Hands sparking with explosions, tearing away at the only thing Deku had left of his dream at the time.
“Who the fuck does that?” He mutters, tossing the book back into its respective place in his box of things.
(“I remember you,” the kid scoffed. “When I saw you in the sports festival I honestly couldn’t believe you got into the Hero program. You know, considering your past and all.”
“What the fuck are you on about?” Bakugou spits, now up in the guy’s face, accepting the challenge.
“You never change do you?” He laughs.
“You—” He starts, but is stopped by an arm tugging him backward.
“Kaachan, let’s just ignore him.” He hears Deku say from behind him.
“And you must be ‘Deku’ then,” The kid says, shifting his gaze towards the other. “I remember you too, you didn’t have a quirk back then though, what happened?”
Deku goes quiet from behind him, and Bakugou feels as sparks begin to emit from his palms.
“Now that I think about it, What are you doing hanging around with this guy?” He says, waving his finger in front of Bakugou. “He used to terrorize you all the time back then.”
“Shut up!” Bakugou clenches his teeth, fisting his palms.
“What? I’m not wrong, right? You even told him to kill—”
Bakugou feels his body act before even thinking, as he grips the kid by the neck of his shirt and pulls him closer to his eye level.
“Finish that sentence, I fucking dare you!” He seethes. At this point he knows he needs to calm down, but he can’t help see red.
The kid laughs.
“You really are just a bully.”)
Fuck… He thinks, kicking all the boxes back into his closet.
“I really am, aren’t I?”
