Kabane found that he does not know very much.
Before Mr. Inugami took him in, he had nothing of his own but the stone around his neck; his life calculus, given to him by those who gave him life.
Although, could he even be counted as alive?
After all, ghouls are naught but the undead.
Then, he learnt that even the stone belonged to somebody else; was somebody else.
He does not know very much.
He would just have to learn along the way, then.

Kabane does not know pain, nor happiness nor sadness; not yet, at least.
What he does know, however, is who he has to protect.
His friends; his allies; his family.
The other cast-out children like him, and those with no part in the fight.
He would give up his life for them, if he could.
He would do it over and over again.

Having to protect himself is an abstract concept.
His friends continuously tell him to do it, but how?
How could he keep both them and himself safe?
He knew who were more important, after all.

There had been many battles on the path to finding his parents, Kabane thinks. Was this how normal detectives work, as well?
Shiki found his mother and sister, Akira found his brother.
He found them, and it seems they found him, as well.
It was disappointing to think that he had yet to find everybody.
He would continue until he did.
