Summary
As Song Lan leaves Yi city as a resurrected, sentient corpse, with two spirit-trapping pouches and an extra sword strapped to his back, he does so without any particular plan of where to go. The only thought thrumming through his mind is that he must go, get away, get as far away from this horrible place as he possibly can. It becomes a journey in more ways than one, as Song Lan grieves and remembers a time long since gone by, all the while trying to heal the two souls in his care and desperately trying to find the strength to go on.
This is a story told in parts, the thread of Song Lan's journey intertwined with both the thread of Song Lan's and Xiao Xingchen's history as their relationship takes shape, and the thread of Xiao Xingchen's soul in the afterlife. There is grief, guilt and pain, but also a whole lot of first times, of learning to overcome fears and to trust. It is a story about love, about letting go and what it means to go on, but most of all, a story about home.
