   Summary

   “I am hallucinating this entire conversation,” he says, voice very quiet. “I am—I dreamed that I got to go back, you know,” he adds in a whisper. It’s not like he’s going to remember this in the morning, if he has anything to say about it, anyway, and since Dolores isn’t here—

   “I went back and I was going to save them. I was so close to saving them. I got to go back a week before the first of April, and some shit happened, yeah, but I got to them and I was so sure I could figure out what causes all—this—” he gestures to the room with one arm, and for a moment, it flickers in-and-out, changing from whole to ruins and back again in a second. Five can’t bear to look at the corpse’s face. “—And they were safe and they were all there, they were—whole, and I could see their faces so clearly, and—then I woke up.” He laughs bitterly, feels his lips twist into an ugly smile. “Fuck, I wish I didn’t.”
