Work Text:

Red didn't mean to do it, he didn't it was an accident he wasn't trying to hurt him. He would never hurt Green on purpose. Never.

Yet it had hurt him.

Red knew the moment that he had heard Green cry out, hands covering his face as he loudly cursed and soon blood dripped between the cracks of his fingers. He had messed up. He had hurt him.

His breath hitched in his chest as he called back Snorlax in an instant, not giving the Pokemon a chance to react as he raced towards his partner. He had thought that Green was a little too close when he had used Rock Slide, but Green was always careful so why would he doubt he wouldn't be safe?

Green grinned at him brightly, a small reassurance that made warmth spread throughout his chest. "I'll leave the training to you today, I think I'll sit  back and observe for now." Red cocked his head at him. Wordlessly, Green understood what he was trying to say.

"How can I beat you if I don't study your style?" He raised a brow and Green just shook his head with a shrug. "Can't get anything past you, huh? Well," The ginger took a step towards him, giving his shoulder a comforting squeeze. "it's that time of the year where it seems like everyone and their mom is trying to challenge me and that's not even mentioning the paperwork, ugh."  He moves closer, his other hand sliding to his shoulder as his arms fold their ways around his shoulder, Red, resting a hand on his waist, giving it a squeeze.

"I'm a little tired so give me a show, hm?" Green moves forward tilting his head and so does he and their lips meet with a brief few seconds till the gym leader pulls back, along with pulling back his arms and placing his palms on his husband's face, smashing it with a smirk. "I heard a new restaurant opened in Saffron and when you're done and if you're up for it when could go visit it?"

Green's only answer is Red leaning forward to plant a kiss on his nose, feeling the tips of his ears heat up. He looked away, feeling his face warm as he scratched the back of his neck, the other hand resting on his own hip. "I'll take that as a yes, yes?"

He nods and Green smiles back at him. "Alright then, don't train for too long because I don't think I need to warn you that it isn't open 24/7."

Green was tired, he told him that he was so, of course, he wouldn't be as careful as he once was. Guilt hanged heavy around his neck, choking him as he felt the corner of his eyes burn.

Oh god... He could have prevented this if he was more careful this was all his fault.

But as he got a closer look at his husband's face the guilt that weighed on him weighed heavier.

"I- I'm fine Red really-" But the redness that swells around his nose and the blood that gushes from his nose, the tears- tears!- that gleam in the corners of his eyes tell him otherwise. Feeling pure unadulterated panic thrum through his veins, his body moves on its own despite Green's protest which falls on deaf ears.

He doesn't even realize he's running until Green forces him to stop by yelling at him louder than he's heard him before is when he notices it. He has his arm wrapped tightly around the other's waist but he can't care for that since all his attention is brought to his nose which has a stream of blood leaking down his chin and staining his lips, his eyes are a slight tint of red as he can still see the same tears welled up there. He did that. It's all his fault.

He hurt him.

Fingers snap in front of his face and he jumps, meeting Green's eyes his attention drifting back to the blood on his face before the other trainer suddenly speaks gaining his attention once more.

"Okay fine, it does hurt, a fuckin' lot if I'm being honest-" As he talks he blinks rapidly, Red doesn't even need to guess why he's doing that as another wave of shame rolls over him that he has to be doing that. This is all his fault, oh god, he probably hates him he wouldn't blame him after all, he hurt him, he'll probably want to leave him, oh god-

A warm hand intertwines with his and gives it a tight squeeze, he hadn't noticed his gaze had drifted to the ground and he looks up and meets Green's face, who despite what he did, is giving him a soft smile as if he isn't mad despite the fact that he hurt him. "-but it'll be faster to deal with this with the help of Pidgeot, okay?"

Shakily, he nodded as he watched Blue pull out Pidgeot's Pokeball and call out the bird who let out a loud shrill, flapping its wings vigorously as it settled. It shrieked when it spotted that its master was injured, flapping its wings which Green dismissed with a pet and a hush, telling his companion where they needed to go. As his partner did this, he rocked on his heels, squeezing his partner's hand, and got a squeeze in return. He felt awful.

As they both mounted the back of the bird's back, as Red stared at the vermillion red liquid leaking down his husbands face he could only think of one thing:

This was all his fault.
