Summary
„Darling?“ Andrew calls, still out of sight, and that gets Neil’s attention. Except for some very rare, very soft moments Andrew only uses pet names to be sarcastic.
„Yes love?“ Neil retaliates in the same, slightly mocking tone. Andrew comes into sight, with an unusual mischievous glint in his eyes. „How much do you think you can horrify a whole bunch of conservative homophobes?“

„No. Nicky. Look. I don’t speak for Andrew, but he didn’t keep a part of his life separate because he prefers one part over the other. It’s because he was reluctant to let them change when they collide, if that makes sense?”
Nicky nods, „I guess it kinda does.“ He sighs. „I … Thank you, Neil.“ He turns to go, but Neil isn’t done.
„Nicky.“ He calls, and waits until Andrew’s cousin is facing him again. „Do you know what Andrew asked me to do on Thursday?“ he asks.
„Cause chaos?“
Neil huffs a laugh and Nicky’s lips twitch too. „Yes.“ He concedes. „But the goal was to get everyone off of your back.“ Nicky’s eyes go huge. „What?“ he stutters, so Neil explains.
„I have been wanting to meet you and Aaron for years, but Andrew was more comfortable if I didn’t, so I never pushed. It took one phone call from you, and Andrew decided he would rather have us all in the same room then watch you deal with your parents alone again. He cares, Nicky.“
There are tears in Nicky’s eyes now. He tries to keep them back by pressing his lips together and taking a deep breath, but his smile is still watery when he nods.
„Okay.“ He manages. „Thank you, Neil. Really. That’s …“ Neil smiles, because this time the thank you is so much more genuine. „Can I hug you?“ Nicky blurts and Neil laughs. „Of course.“ He opens his arms and Nicky squeezes him carefully. „Thank you.“ Nicky whispers again and Neil tightens his arms in response. „Any time.“
