Suspension Bridge Effect

Summary:

A self indulgent series of vaguely connected stories based off the events of the TV series. It's basically a re-write of every scene between Cheong-San and Su-Hyeok.

Notes:

The looks! Between Cheong-San and Su-Hyeok had me pausing every twenty minutes just to write down a new idea and I came up with quite a few so here you go! Also these are all relatively short and some are just a scene from someone else's perspective so don't expect too much just yet.

Chapter Text

Su-Hyeok stares after On-Jo, waiting for her to walk out of earshot before he looks over to Cheong-San, getting his attention before asking the question that has been nagging at his mind for the past ages.

“You’re going out with On-Jo right?” Cheong-San blinks at him, tilting his head slightly before humming. Su-Hyeok can feel his heart palpitating in his chest, swallowing a few times in a futile effort to try and stop the feeling.

“Yes. I am,” Su-Hyeok’s breath stalls in his throat, heart dropping as he looks at his long-time friend with wide eyes. He knew the rumours everyone spread about On-Jo and Cheong-San but that was just it, they were rumours. The two of them had never actually come out and said anything about it, letting everyone just assume what they wanted since it never got in the way of their life or anything.

Su-Hyeok went to speak, ignoring the clench in his chest in an effort to be that supportive friend he always dreaded having to be when it came to this particular topic with this specific person, “Is that what you wanted me to say? You moron.”

The taller male’s brain freezes, all of his words suddenly becoming stuck in his throat as Cheong-San looks up at him with a cheeky grin and shoves him lightly. When Su-Hyeok still doesn’t move or speak the shorter chuckles lightly, speaking again before Su-Hyeok can say something probably embarrassing.

“If the world comes to an end and only On-Jo, Me and a zombie are left, I’d go out with the zombie.” Su-Hyeok stares at him intently, trying to figure out if Cheong-San was being serious or joking around to hide his true feelings. The grin slips off the shorter’s face, eyebrows quirking up slightly as he asks.

“Why do you ask?” Su-Hyeok shakes his head absently, slipping On-Jo’s name badge into his pants pocket. Maybe he could give it back to her later and hope that she would not tell Cheong-San about it.

“No reason. Let’s go.” Cheong-San looks as if he wants to ask more about it, brow furrowed, and lips pouted in that adorable way that only occurs when he’s confused or curious about something. Su-Hyeok does not give him the chance to ask though, wrapping his arm around his shoulders and pulling him close before staring them up the rest of the stairs.

“What’s for lunch today?” Unfortunately, his short friend is not so easily swayed, continuing to ask him about it and constantly poking him in the side as they made their way toward the lunchroom. Su-Hyeok avoids every question though, simply commenting on what type of food he would like to eat and wondering aloud on whether or not they will have it by time they get there.

Cheong-San eventually gives up, huffing and shoving his elbow into his side lightly. Su-Hyeok simply laughs, bumping his hip against before reluctantly retracting his arm once they reach the lunchroom. The taller teen sticks close though, standing next to Cheong-San in line and constantly touching him for no particular reason. It was moments like these that he was glad he was just a generally affectionate person, Cheong-San always passing it off as him being his usual self as a result.

The two quickly collected their lunches, thanking the lunch ladies with a small smile before walking off toward their friend group. Gyeong-Su slid over a bit, making room on either side of him for Cheong-San and Su-Hyeok. The former took a seat to his left and immediately began eating, talking with the rest of their friends. Su-Hyeok looked at the only empty spot left, glancing between it and Cheong-San.

“What are you doing? Sit down already.” Su-Hyeok ignored Gyeong-Su’s words for the moment, shoving him until he moved over before sitting himself between him and Cheong-San. The latter glanced at him, offering him a small smile before pulling him into the conversation. Gyeong-Su was muttering about something or other on his other side, but he opted to ignore him, smiling as Cheong-San began to get excited about their topic of conversation.

It was not until Dae-Su threw some food at him that he actually looked away, glaring at the other as he gave him an amused smile. Whether it was because he had caught Su-Hyeok staring or because he threw food the athlete could not tell, the guy was rather oblivious even when he was slapped in the face with the facts.

“Oi moron, don’t waste food like that.” Dae-Su shrugged, continuing with eating his lunch and speaking with the others. Su-Hyeok decided to finally start eating, deciding that he had had his fill of staring at his crush like a child and actually interacting with the others. They made it about ten minutes before there was a very shrill and abrupt break in the chatter, everyone looking toward I-Sak as On-Jo frantically pulled her to sit back down.

Cheong-San laughed at the sight, shaking his head before ignoring them. Su-Hyeok stared at them for a little longer, tilting his head in silent question before also disregarding them and turning toward Gyeong-Su. The athlete had a vague idea of what they could have been talking about, but it was none of his business now. Besides, he still had to figure out how he was going to reject politely reject On-Jo.
