“You were building a case to take them to court.” she realises, eyebrows raised.
“They weren’t going to get to kill me,” he says. He looks up. He has his father’s temper. He always has. He’s always simmering under a poker face he learned at his mother’s feet. “I was ready to take them down first. No matter what it took.”
