Work Text:
It was around ten at night when Ranboo heard a thump of something hitting his window. At first he ignored it, more focused on the school work on the desk in front of him right then. but when it kept happening he pushed himself harshly off his desk chair, annoyed at the disturbance. He pushed the curtains open only to have his anger and annoyance melt away at the sight below him.
Standing with a handful of rocks was Tommy, his blond hair messy and wearing a ratting blue cardigan, he was the one who was most likely the one throwing crap at his window and bothering him. Next to him were their three other friends, Tubbo who was wearing pajama pants and a thick sweater, Purpled who was dressed casually with a Purple hoodie and bag in his hands. Lastly was Drista, Purpled’s younger step-sister, she was wearing an oversized hoodie with a dark sweater underneath. They all looked like they knew they were going somewhere, well, except for Tubbo with the pajamas.
He slid with the window open, confused at what they were doing here this late. He stuck his head out his window, feeling the cold night air freeze the tips of his ears. He opened his mouth to say something before Tommy interrupted him.
“Oi Cunt, Get down here!” Tommy yelled up to him, making Ranboo cringe.
“Keep it down, Jesus, my parents are asleep.” He yell-whispers back at him
Tommy looked a slight bit remorseful, looking down at his feet and tossing away the few rocks he had left in his hands. Drista snickered at him.
“Sorry bossman!” Tubbo said “Will you still come down and hang with us?”
Ranboo turned back into his room, looking at the digital clock sitting on the desk. The red numbers read 10:42, way way past his curfew. Sticking head back out he frowned.
“It’s like, way late, why are guys wanting to go out now?” He hissed down at the people.
“Come on man, don’t be a pussy!” Tommy yelled, Tubbo slapped his hand over his mouth.
Purpled chuckled “You scared about breaking curfew” He mocked
Ranboo huffed, leaning back and shutting his window. Sitting back down on his chair with a heavy huff. He took a second to breathe in, thinking about what to do when the sound of pebbles started in his window again. He stood up, swinging his closet door open, grabbing a random jacket and went back to the window.
He quickly opened it again, swinging a leg over the edge, hearing his friends cheering from before before getting snapped at to shut up. He stepped out on the overhang roof, creeping closer to the edge. He would see Tommy’s stupid grin and Tubbos worried face.
“Can one of you grab the ladder? It's in the shed round the back.” He instructed, pointed around the corner.
Quickly, Tubbo rushed off to get it for him, coming back with a ladder in his arms. Purpled helps the shorter boy hold the ladder as Ranboo climbs down, cringing as each rung dangerously creecked under his weight. But soon his feet touched solid ground, and a hand grabbed the back of his shirt.
“Can’t believe goodie-two-shoes Ranboo si sneaking out” Drista mocks.
Ranboo turned to face his friends “Yeah, if I get caught because you guys woke my parents up with your yelling I'm killing one of you.” The two-toned teen deadpans.
Tubbo, who was holding onto the back of his shirt, looked up at him “You wouldn’t kill me! We’re married!”
Ranboo chuckled “I would, now be quiet.” He flicked the shorter forehead “Now, where are you guys going?”
“That abandoned skate park, Drista and Purp got spray paint” Tommy said, starting to walk out of Ranboo’s yard “Now men, and Drista, let's get going”
The five teens walked down the cold, empty sidewalk, only the vocational car driving by as someone else their night shift. Ranboo stuck to Tubbos' side, like he was glued to his shoulder, heterochromatic eyes darting around the empty street. He didn’t like how many crazed crackheads walked around at night and attacked people's stories that Purpled was telling.
Soon, the smooth and pristine pathment turned cracked, crab grass and weeds growing in between, hopping for life in a lifeless place. A tall chain fence branches growing into the chains, leaves partly obscuring the view inside. But those breaks in the leaves, there was a deep cement bowl.
“Here it is,” Purpled smiled, waving his hands at the fence.
“How are we supposed to get over it?” Ranboo asked.
“Well, there is a sliding gate, but it has a lock-” Purpled said, sticking his foot into the chain “And if you cut it, the cops for sure will see it and get your ass” Reaching up, he grabs at the highest point he could reach.
“So we’re going to climb” Tommy finished, watching as Purpled pulled himself up, reaching the top.
“It's easy, you guys got it” Purpled side, sitting at the top.
“You make it look effortless bro, no shot I can get up there.” Tubbo huffed
Purpled laughed, hopping down on the other side, looking through the foliage “It’s ‘cause I do it a lot”
“I’m sure Ranboob will fall on his ass also.” TOmmy chuckled, looking back at the black and wait teen.
“Shut- shut up! I am not that weak.” Ranboo hissed back, crossing his arms.
Drista rolled her eyes, stepping forward and doing the same thing Purpled had done, putting a foot through a hole, reaching up and pulling herself up. She wound her legs over, jumping, if Purpled hadn’t grabbed her she probably would have fallen.
“See? So easy, even she can do it” Purpled Laughed.
The other three soon followed, landing on the other side with a little sting in their ankles.
“I feel like i banged my balls up there” Tommy groaned
“Don't be so crass, jackass” Tubbo punched him in the shoulder, earning an angry whine from the tall blond boy.
The cement was cracked and trees untrimmed, the bowl had rotting leaves and shallow puddles of water sitting at the bottom. The metal bars were rusted over, the paint peeled off and what was once silver turned red. The place was clearly unused and not looked after for a while.
The sound and cans clattering to the pathment catches Ranboo’s attench. Purpled tipped over the contents of the bag he had with him, many colors of spray paint onto the ground. They were lying when they said he had it.
“I’m gonna draw a big cock and balls” Tommy shouts, grabbing at a random can and rushing off to a empty spot, Drista following behind him with her own can
“I’ll paint one next to yours”
Tubbo was next to grab one.
“You guys are really going to vandalize this place? Isn’t that illegal?” Ranboo asked timidly.
Tubbo smiled, tossing Ranboo his own can, laughing when he fumbled with the can. “Come on boss man, loosen up a little.”
Ranboo sighed, looking down at the can in his hand. He looked up at the others, Tommy, true to his word, was drawing a big dick with Drista. The half and half boy followed Tubbo to an empty spot across the bowl, sitting on an old water damaged bench.
He watched the brunette drawing bees, flowers, and random shapes. He juggled the spray can in his hands.
"What do I… do?" Ranboo asked, glancing away when Tubbo looked at him with a confused expression.
"Anything you want, bossman? It's your own drawings and shit." Tubbo said, giving him a kind smile.
Ranboo slowly stood up from the bench as Tubbo turned around to his patterns. Walked a little away from the shorter boy, staring at the blank concrete, his eyes adjusting to the dark by this point. He took the lid off with a nice pop sound.
He smiled at the big black blob he drew on the ground, the thing made up of random shapes of uneven proportion and lines drawn with an unsteady hand. The blob hardly resembled anything and it wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t need to be perfect for something someone else would understand.
“Looks neat Bossman!” Say Tubbo, leaning on the taller boys side, looking down at the drawing, nodding.
“Thanks. To be honest, I have no clue what it is” Ranboo chuckled.
Tubbo shrugged. “It doesn’t matter, there are a bunch of paintings out there where people like them and don't understand what's going on” Tubbo said, walking around the drawing “I mean like, abstract painting was like a big ass thing at some point. People loved them.”
“Yeah but like, do people like them now?”
“Do you like it?”
Ranboo stared at the blob in front of him, mentally tracing the lines to a triangle “I mean, yeah. I think it's neat”
“There's your answer then!” Tubbo was back at his side, holding out his can of yellow spray paint “Wanna add more crap, this abstract shit can be pretty wild”
Ranboo smiled, taking the spray can.
