Work Header

you make me feel so high

Summary:

if there was one thing that sunghoon was ever sure of in his life, is that bickering with sunoo was enough to put a smile on his face for the rest of the day. so, he ends up starting the most random bets just to get a reaction from the other, and sunoo complies to it each time.

and what better way to do it when they both mc for rivalling music shows?

Work Text:

Their day starts the same way that every other day does:

First, Jungwon goes around the dorm and wakes all of them up. He starts in his shared room with Sunoo, Sunghoon, and Niki, making sure to rouse Sunoo up first because he’s the easiest to wake up. He then moves onto Jay and Jake’s room, and then to Heeseung’s.

On an extremely good day, when all of them aren’t running late, they may even be able to grab a bite or two from the kitchen. But on days where they’ve spent the majority of their night and early mornings staring at their reflections in their practice room mirror – well, they have yet to be in their van on time.

Today though, there’s something a little different.

Sunghoon sat on the couch in their living room, a bucket hat over his head as he scrolled through his phone. Next to him was Sunoo, who held a little vanity mirror in his hand and was fixing up the bangs of his hair (Jungwon doesn’t really know why he even bothers when their stylist was going to fix it anyways). This was normal, because aside from the friendly banter those two had going on, they were always attached to the hip. Usually though, the two would simply sit in silence, basking in each other’s presence until Niki would enter the room and cause a ruckus.

It doesn’t seem to be that case today.

“Look how many articles I got after Music Bank! My name went trending too,” Sunghoon sneers playfully, shoving the phone into Sunoo’s face. The latter only rolls his eyes in a concealed attempt to seem unbothered. “Hm, you won’t be saying that after I MC for Inkigayo tomorrow, hyung.” Jungwon really had to give Sunoo credit for the way he turned to Sunghoon with a sly smirk, knowing full well that that was enough to get a reaction from the older.

“Wanna bet on that, Sun?”

A challenging grin tugs on the corners of Sunoo’s lips, “count on it, hyung.”

Cue cards in hand, Sunoo mindlessly trudged around their dorms, reading his cards for tomorrow over, and over again. They just wrapped up their schedule for the day, and most of the members have resigned to their individual rooms for the night. Sunoo finds that practising for Inkigayo was better when the dorm was quiet (mostly from Heeseung’s screeching whenever he played games).

“Why are you still up?”

A voice breaks him out of his trance, and Sunoo immediately whipped his head around to see Sunghoon leaning against their wall. His hair was still fairly wet from the shower, his bangs plastered messily on his forehead as he looked at Sunoo with affection shining in his eyes. Sunoo tried to ignore the way the other’s arms flexed a little when he folded them together, and he swallowed the lump that’s begun to form in his throat.

“I’m practising for tomorrow. What else would I be doing with cue cards in my hands, hyung?” Sunoo says this snarkily, goosebumps prickling his skin when Sunghoon giggles airily. He’s had to stop himself from trailing his eyes down Sunghoon’s arms for the nth time that day, but it’s getting really hard when he has to see him every single day the moment he opens his eyes.

“Aw, is our sunshine nervous to become an MC?”

“No, I just really want to beat you at our bet. You know I’m better at doing it than you anyways.”

Sunghoon laughs fully this time, moving off from the wall and walking closer to Sunoo. He takes the cue cards Sunoo held in his hands, sighing when he places it down on the table next to them. He’s not entirely wrong, though. Ever since he was announced to be the special MC for Inkigayo, Sunoo’s been in a constant state of steady nerves whenever the thought simply crossed his mind. Sunoo’s weary of messing up in front of so many people to see, and he often wonders if he’s even cut out for this job.

“You’ll be fine, you know that, right?”

Lifting a hand up, Sunghoon reaches forward to boop the point of Sunoo’s nose, grinning when the younger boy smiles at him genuinely. “Sunoo-yah, did you know Music Bank and Inkigayo are technically rivals?” Sunoo narrows his eyes at him quizzingly. “What?”

“Their representative companies are rivals, from what I heard from Heeseung-hyung.”

“And you believed him?”

A dubious expression graces Sunoo’s face at that. “But it makes sense for our bet!” Sunghoon defends himself, arms reaching out to hold the younger’s shoulders. “What better way to prove who the better MC is than doing it for rival music shows? It makes it more interesting that way.”

God, Sunghoon-hyung. You’re insufferable.”

Pouting, he looked at Sunoo with his poorly executed puppy dog eyes (he knew Sunghoon was trying to imitate what Jungwon does to him in order to get his way. It doesn’t work, and quite frankly never will. Only Jungwon could make puppy dog eyes well enough for Sunoo to fold). “You can’t say that! I’m your favourite hyung!” Sunghoon was whining now, and Sunoo really wished he could just bury himself six feet underground. Maybe even sleep on the road outside their dorm’s building.

For someone who prided himself for his suave and cool exterior as an idol, Sunghoon could be really cute at times. It’s a shame the older wasn’t shameless enough to show this side of him often on the cameras. However, Sunoo vaguely remembers how Heeseung said that Sunoo’s aegyo was beginning to rub onto Sunghoon. He supposes they do hang out together quite a lot these days.

“Jake-hyung is my favourite hyung. I thought I said that a few weeks ago?”

This only makes Sunghoon sulk even more, and he pulls a slightly stunned Sunoo towards him for a hug. “Shut up, that’s not true. I’m your favourite hyung because we are going to go and practise your cue cards together. I’m not about to let my MC rival get nervous when he’s up on stage.”

Sunghoon’s arms are warm. Extremely warm, and despite the fact that it’s been boiling hot for the past few days, and Sunoo loathes the feeling of sweaty clothes stuck to his skin – it was comforting. But honestly, all he could think about was how he could feel Sunghoon’s biceps against his skin, and suddenly his face was feeling hot too.

He just hopes Sunghoon ignored the way his ears were a permanent tinge of red as they read Sunoo’s cue cards together.

Heeseung places his bowl of cereal down onto their table as he watches two of his members bicker by their kitchen entrance. Jay, who had just gotten out of his bedroom, squinted his eyes at the two as he rolled his head side to side.

“How long have those two been at it, now?”

Heeseung could only shake his head, shoving a spoonful of cereal in his mouth as he looked triedly at Jay. “A while now. They’re both adamant that they’re the better MC. And don’t– don’t ask me why they’re arguing over this. Apparently it’s a bet that they started yesterday.” He rubs his hands over his face haphazardly, and Jay sags his shoulders in defeat.

“Sunghoonie-hyung, I’m going to prove to you that I’m the better MC. Everybody falls in love with me at first glance anyways.”

Sunoo flashes a smug look to Sunghoon, eating the last bit of his toast. This makes Sunghoon taunt him further, a crazed glint sparkling in his eyes. “But sunshine, you can’t beat experience.” Sunoo chortles at him, bending forward from laughing and his hand reaching out to steady himself on Sunghoon’s arm (of which, Heeseung noted, was something that Sunoo did regularly these days. He doesn’t know if Sunoo has noticed that habit yet, or if it was intentional. But if there’s anything he’s sure of, is that he was not going to comment on it at all. He wasn’t entirely willing to become someone’s pseudo therapist for their love life).

“Now don’t make me laugh, my dear favourite hyung. You were extremely stiff with Wonyoung-ssi for the first few weeks,” Sunoo says in a singsong voice, poking the dimple on Sunghoon’s cheek.

The events that occur right after almost made Heeseung convinced that he was living in a comedic sitcom, because Sunghoon flails backwards in shock, eyes blown wide and cheeks tinged a rosy pink. “Okay first of all, sunshine, I’m horrendously introverted. Second of all, don’t you dare use your ‘Sunoo privilege’ by poking my cheek! That won’t make you win our bet.”

Jay interjects their conversation with a disgruntled tone, “what the fuck is a ‘Sunoo privilege’ ?”

Heeseung wonders if the two forgot that there were still other people in the room watching them bicker, or if they were so enraptured in their own world that they didn’t realise their flirting was being watched in scrutiny and (mild) disgust.

Sunoo hides a snort behind his hand, and the boy at least had the gall to turn away before he burst into laughter. Jay’s question doesn’t phase Sunghoon though, because the latter walked towards him and ruffled his friend’s hair before replying.

“It’s basically the exact same thing you do with Jungwon. Except I actually admit it, unlike you.”

“Okay, what the hell was that supposed to mean?”

In life, Sunoo believes that there are times where you don’t need to plan everything out to its very last detail. Sure, he used to do this back when they first debuted, but he’s quickly learnt that things don’t always go as they’re planned, and sometimes, it’s better to let things play out on their own.

Because being able to step back and just try to do the things that you want to do is definitely more than enough for him.

Right now, though, he’s honestly wishing he planned everything till the final detail.

There’s no use in obsessing over certain things and then getting upset when the turnout isn’t exactly what Sunoo envisioned, and that’s a motto he’s lived by for a while now. Ironically enough, though, he’s a hypocrite in his own right. Since they left their dorms and began heading to the Inkigayo studio, Sunoo hasn’t stopped fiddling with the ends of his fingers, or toying with the music show schedule that he printed out earlier that day.

His thoughts were a well-organised mess, from deciding whether or not he should do aegyo at a certain point in their script, or whether he should try acting polished and cool. He supposes he should go with the former, when being naturally cute was his personal charm anyways.

He’s yet to meet his Yeonjun-hyung’s co-MCs too, considering he was taking the guy’s place as a special MC for two weeks. From the videos he’s seen online and the reassuring texts that Yeonjun sent him telling him that everything was going to be okay, he deduces that they seem extremely sweet.

Sunghoon finds Sunoo sitting by an empty stairwell as the latter waited for both Jeongeui and Bumjune to arrive so they could practise together. He approaches the younger boy cautiously, not wanting to startle him and send his nerves into waves of panic once again.

Sunghoon’s attentive nature whenever it came to Sunoo always made Sunoo grateful for him, because only Sunghoon’s been able to pick apart and discern the times when he’s raw and vulnerable. He doesn’t make a huge deal of needing to comfort Sunoo either, because he knows Sunoo can handle things on his own and will ask for help when he needs to. And all Sunoo’s ever needed was for someone to simply be there for him – just someone that will sit with him and listen.

So that’s exactly what Sunghoon does (given, of course, with the side teasing to lighten the heavy atmosphere that’s begun to weigh on their shoulders).

“You’ll be fine, Sunoo-yah. You practised so much last night. They’ll love you.”

Sunoo keeps his head down but acknowledges Sunghoon’s presence with a hum. He later feels a warmth emanating from his side, and he knows Sunghoon’s moved to sit next to him. A hand reaches out to grab his, holding his right hand tenderly. The older boy’s fingers trace the crevices of his hand, a gesture that does more than calm Sunoo down, but makes butterflies rupture in his stomach.

Yet the feeling wasn’t unwelcomed or unfamiliar. Sunoo’s found that he feels this way a lot whenever he’s with Sunghoon.

“I know that. But I keep overthinking and it just sucks .”

The hand holding his became tighter, and Sunoo had to push any thoughts of the arm pressed against him to the back of his mind. How inappropriate of him.

“But you’ve done this before, remember? Soobin-hyung asked you to be a special MC for MuBank . And now Yeonjun-hyung did too. They trust you because they know you’ll get the job done, and you will do it well.”

A wet laugh escapes Sunoo’s tinted lips, “why are you consoling me when we have a bet going on, hyung?”

Sunghoon dawdles on his next words for a moment, “because even if I’m sure I’ll win the bet, you’re still our Sunoo. And I will do everything I can to make you feel better and reassure you.” He intakes a sharp breath, before placing a hand underneath Sunoo’s chin and making him look up. Sunghoon’s eyes are pretty, and the moles on his face are like constellations in the sky. Sunoo finds it funny how Sunghoon was stubborn enough to believe that he only had three moles on his face just because Sunoo said so. He clearly had more, but he thinks it’s probably because of that ‘Sunoo privilege’ he has.

“You’re my sunshine, and I know you’ll do well.”

Well, fuck, because now Sunoo is nervous for a completely different reason. Sunghoon looks at him as if he’s reading an open book, his clear eyes flickering around the slopes and dips of Sunoo’s face. Sunoo’s eyes trail downwards once again, and he curses their stylists for making Sunghoon wear sleeveless shirts during their performances.

It sends him on a whirlwind, as if he was experiencing the most exhilarating rollercoaster ride of his life.

“Okay,” Sunoo says, a much more committed grin on his face. Sunghoon’s moved to cup his face sweetly, and from an outsider’s perspective, it was definitely not platonic at all.

(And perhaps the way Sunoo was looking intently between Sunghoon’s eyes and his arms was a dead giveaway)

“I’m going to go on that stage, and prove to everyone else that I’m better than you.”

“Nope, because I am.

“Oh shut up, hyung! Just admit I’m better than you,” Sunoo wails, pushing Sunghoon away when the older boy tries to poke his sides.

“Yeah? Tell that to the countless articles and viral tweets I got last night,” Sunghoon replies cheerily, watching as Sunoo rolls his eyes and pouts at him. Sunoo’s phone chimes just at that moment, and they both know they need to head back.

Sunoo left that stairwell feeling a lot lighter than he’s ever felt in the past week, and it undeniably had something to do with the pretty blonde boy that follows in his stead.

Everything goes perfectly that day, despite Sunoo being a bundle of uncontrollable nerves initially. Jeongeui and Bumjune were the sweetest people ever, and he’s so glad that they welcomed him warmly. They even exchanged contact numbers, and Jeongeui promised she would take Sunoo out for drinks and samgyupsal sometime when they’re free (with the addition of a sulking Bumjune who Jeongeui was messing with).

Yeonjun calls him that night too, sending him his words of praise and telling Sunoo that he couldn’t have chosen someone better to take his spot as an MC temporarily. It sends him reeling in happiness, and he’s been smiling so hard since they left the studio that his cheeks have begun to hurt a little. Engenes were extremely proud of him as well, if it wasn’t obvious from the continuous chants of his name as they exited the building to go home.

He hasn’t felt elation like this before, and the adrenaline that was seeping from him was still bubbling beneath his surface.

“Sunoo-hyung! You did so well!” Niki pushes past Heeseung just to attach himself to Sunoo’s side immediately, hugging the older boy from the side. Niki’s grown a lot since the first time Sunoo’s met him, and he basically towers over him now. Jungwon does the same, and both their leader and maknae had Sunoo surrounded in their arms as they held onto him tightly.

Sunoo’s so lucky to have them.

Jake pinches his cheek, beaming with affection at his friend. “Sunny! You were so good up there! An absolute natural, Sun.” He untangles Sunoo from Niki and Jungwon, giving him a hug himself. It’s so lovely; Sunoo can feel the unconditional love from his members radiating from their smiles and hugs.

“You really did well today, Sun. Might even make me run for my money,” Sunghoon whispers as he pulls Sunoo into another hug once the younger broke apart from Jake. “I will make you run for your money. I can already feel my name taking first place on the Naver trending page,” he mumbles back, lodging his chin onto the crook of Sunghoon’s neck. The familiar scent of expensive perfume wafts through his nose, and Sunoo recalls it to be the one he recommended to Sunghoon a while back.

Sunoo can see Jungwon quirk an eyebrow at him from his peripheral vision, but he dismisses it and lets Sunghoon pull him even closer.

“Don’t get too cocky, Kim Sunoo.”

“Only if your ego isn’t taller than our company’s building.”

Jungwon (and reluctantly, Heeseung) corners Sunoo later that night, when both Jay and Sunghoon have decided to go to the gym for a while.

“What was that?”

He plays dumb, looking at Jungwon and Heeseung innocently. “What was what?” Their leader sighs exasperatedly, kicking Niki’s hoodie that was laying on the floor and making his way to the foot of Sunoo’s bed.

That. You and Sunghoon-hyung. That was not very ‘best friend’ like, of you two.”

Heeseung nods in agreement, though Sunoo can tell he doesn’t really want to be there, considering his eye bags were more prominent than they have ever been. He sits himself next to Jungwon, tilting his head to the side.

“Us?”

“Yes! There’s something going on. Like, some kinda tension that honestly makes me want to leave the room whenever I find myself alone with you two.”

It makes Sunoo blush a little, eyes avoiding Jungwon’s piercing gaze and Heeseung’s bemused smile. Sunoo knows exactly what Jungwon’s pertaining to. His stares have been lingering longer than usual whenever it falls on Sunghoon, and sometimes it’s not as innocent as Sunoo makes it seem to be.

At least Sunoo knows that whatever he says to Jungwon and Heeseung will be kept between them, so it doesn’t really bother him to just tell them the truth.

“Well, he has been working out a lot.”

Jungwon makes a gagging noise, seemingly disgusted at the prospect of Sunoo’s next words. “ Okay, I think I’ve gotten the gist of what you’re about to say.” Heeseung cackles at Jungwon’s response, mumbling an ‘I told you so’ when Sunoo looks at him empathetically.

“Hey! At least I’m honest and not in denial.”

“So basically, the ‘bet’ is an excuse to flirt with him?”

He shrugs his shoulders; there’s no point in pretending that he didn’t agree to the bet just so he had an excuse to flirt with Sunghoon. Besides, it’s working in his favour anyways.

“I mean, yeah? I’m an opportunist, Won.”

Their leader scoffs in disbelief. “You are one of a kind, hyung. Truly.”

“Why does that sound so sarcastic?”

Their bickering goes well into the next week, and the members have no idea how they were supposed to deal with the rising tension in the dorms.

After Sunoo’s appearance in Inkigayo, he managed to stir up a number of articles about it, and true to his words, he was trending on Naver as well. Of course, this fuels Sunghoon’s competitiveness to the max, and not only that, there’s an unresolved tension between them that gets worse each day.

It’s kind of suffocating, especially when you’re witnessing two people go at each other’s throats for hours on end; yet they stare at each other with a sort of hunger in their eyes that makes Jungwon shiver.

“Jake, who’s the better MC? Sunoo, or me?”

Jake makes an attempt to ignore Sunghoon’s words, dashing towards his bedroom. But the latter was fast, and he pulled Jake back by his collar. “Don’t manhandle me like I’m your dog!” Sunghoon blatantly ignores this.

“Hoonie-hyung can’t accept the fact that I got more articles than he did. And the fact that I went trending on Twitter too.”

He scratches his head in annoyance, glaring at Sunghoon as Sunoo sips on the iced americano he just bought. “Why are you dragging me into this?” Jake flicks Sunghoon on the forehead, grinning like a Cheshire cat when the other yelps in pain. “Because you were the first person I saw that I could ask.” Jake then hits him lightly on the back of his head.

“Ow! Stop being so violent towards me! I’m meant to be your best friend!

“Not when you’re dragging me into,” he gestures to Sunghoon and Sunoo before continuing, “ this.

Sunoo doesn’t comment on the way Sunghoon and Jake have resorted to attempting to kick each other on the shin, yet he doesn’t notice how he’s kept his eyes unconsciously trained onto Sunghoon. It’s so normal for him to be doing this these days, that he subconsciously looks around an empty room for any traces or signs of Sunghoon (and his entire mind is clouded by only Sunghoon).

He breaks his reverie when Jungwon pokes the back of his neck as he walks by, and he hears Jungwon’s voice whisper in his ear. “Hyung, you’re staring at him so hard that it can drill holes into him.”

Flustered, he sputters on his coffee, and he had to hide his face into the crook of his elbow. Sunghoon picks up on this immediately, though, and nearly rushes to Sunoo’s side in worry. “Sunoo! Are you okay?”

“Geez, hyung, over reactive much? Sunoo-hyung isn’t going to die from choking on his coffee,” Niki quips from across the room. Jungwon laughs at Niki’s words, moving to sit beside their maknae on the couch. “Yeah, hyung. I’m fine. Just swallowed wrongly, that’s all.”

Once Sunghoon deemed that Sunoo was in fact not dying, he returned to hassling Jake to answer his question.

(“You should have made your escape when Sunoo got his attention, dumbass,” Jay uttered in disapproval. With his back leaning against their door, all Jake could do was groan helplessly.)

Another coy smile makes its way on Sunghoon’s face, and for someone whose fans have said his looks were angelic – right now, it’s as if Jake was staring at the spawn of Satan himself.

“Who’s the better MC?” Sunghoon surveys him like a hawk, almost threatening him with his eyes to answer the question incorrectly.

“Sunoo.”

And Jake leaves the room hurriedly as Sunghoon gasps in betrayal.

Sunoo wins their bet the first time. And the next, too.

Truthfully speaking, it doesn’t phase Sunghoon at all, when he expected this outcome anyways. Besides, he knows Sunoo was naturally good at many things, and he’s well-loved too. In fact, he’d be the first person that would be pissed if Sunoo didn’t get any recognition from the public after his job as an MC.

So naturally, he was proud that people praised Sunoo for this, because this is what he deserved.

Of course, Sunghoon only made the bet because he liked riling Sunoo up with their bickering, only to leave the boy a giggling or flustered mess. It’s cute, really cute, and Sunghoon has a terrible weakness for cute things (and people).

Climbing up the stairs of their building, Sunghoon panted as he skipped every two steps, trying to get to the rooftop as fast as possible. Today was the last day that Sunoo was going to be an MC, and if Sunghoon knew the younger boy well enough, he knows that Sunoo would have stepped out to clear his head the second they got home.

The metal door leading to the rooftop clangs horribly against the pipe attached to the brick wall, and it makes Sunghoon jump backwards slightly. The sky was clear that night, and it wasn’t too hot either, just barely humid. It was a nice change of weather, considering how scorching the early morning sun already was. Treading carefully, Sunghoon walks until he finds a mop of black hair peeking behind a random brick structure in the middle of the roof.

“Sunoo?”

Sunoo smiles at him, but the corners of his lips don’t reach his ears like they usually do. Sunghoon realises just how much the other was going to miss being an MC, even if it was just for two weeks. Perhaps it was from the way he was welcomed and loved dearly by his co-MCs, and the other staff. Sunghoon can’t blame them for that, when Sunoo was so easy to love.

“Hey hyung.”

Sunoo’s voice was soft, floating harmoniously with the breeze that swirls around them. For a moment, neither of them spoke a word, letting the silence sit between them idly. Tension weighs the air, too, but they don’t address that either – not when it’s been a budding thing that’s been trailing the two of them wherever they went.

“You’re the best MC.”

Sunghoon’s sudden words made Sunoo giggle breathlessly, gazing at his hyung with such an adoring and fond look that Sunghoon almost melted on the spot. “Oh, so now you admit it?” Sunghoon purses his lips and pointedly looks away, acting as if he was about to throw a tantrum.

“Only because you look like you’re going to cry.”
Hyung.

The two burst out laughing, and the sparkle that seemed to reside permanently in Sunoo’s foxy eyes returned. There he is. There’s the Sunoo that Sunghoon loved so much.

“I mean it, though. You’re the best MC. Better than me, even.” He said this with such sincerity that Sunoo felt himself falling even further. And it’s okay, because he doesn’t mind falling for the rest of his life as long as it’s with Sunghoon. “But you do this every week. Technically you’re better than me.”

Nudging his shoulder, Sunghoon then reaches to pinch his cheeks lightly. “Let me compliment you, Sunoo.”

Sunoo has compiled a list of things about Sunghoon that were enough to make his stomach churn in ways that he never thought was even possible.

One; Sunghoon was always incredibly attentive with him. He could mention liking a certain type of snack in passing one day, and then the next day later, he’ll find a bag in their kitchen that has that exact snack for him.

Two; Sunoo thrives off of compliments and affirmation. And Sunghoon was never shy of that, consistently telling Sunoo when he was doing well, and complimenting him too.

And three; he looks at Sunoo as if he was the one responsible for creating the entire universe. As if he held the blazing sun in the palm of his hands and that looking at him was like a drug, intoxicating, addicting.

No one has ever made him feel this way before.

“You spent the whole week hyping yourself up to be the best MC only for you to say it’s me?”

“It was always you, sunshine.”

Sunshine. The way it slips from Sunghoon’s mouth so effortlessly makes his toes curl. He’s glad that it’s dark outside, or else Sunghoon may notice the way that his cheeks are now blooming with carnations.

Sunghoon does notice though. Because he’s Park Sunghoon, the one who pays a crazy amount of attention to Sunoo.

“You’re turning red again.”

Sunoo gulps, but the lump in his throat doesn’t disappear.

“Again?”

“Yeah. You turn red a lot when you’re staring at me.”

Staring at him shell-shocked, Sunoo watches as Sunghoon chuckles smoothly at him, his hand making its way onto Sunoo’s petite waist and pulling him forwards. “ No fucking way– you knew I was staring at you the whole time?”

“Well, I spent a lot of my time staring at you, too.”

Sunghoon’s face was mere centimetres away from him. He could feel Sunghoon’s breath shudder as Sunoo pushed himself closer. The tension from before was a lot higher now, and it was only a matter of time before it shattered.

“Yeah?”

Already breathless, Sunghoon mumbles back. “Yeah.”

Sunoo crashes his lips onto Sunghoon and suddenly he’s on cloud nine. It’s sweet, and Sunghoon can taste the remnants of the cake Sunoo was eating with Heeseung that night. Tilting his head to get a better angle, their kiss becomes a lot more heated, with Sunoo’s lips slotting between his so perfectly and with such practised ease that it’s almost like they’ve done this countless times before.

Biting Sunoo’s bottom lip, Sunghoon feels the other boy gasp into his mouth, and a hand gripping tightly onto his arm. And despite the fact that their breaths were mingling together, their lungs burning for oxygen – this is the most relaxed they’ve ever felt in weeks. He slips a tongue into Sunoo’s mouth, kissing him deeper and stifling the moan that’s threatening to come out.

This is the most intoxicating thing Sunoo has ever experienced in his entire life. No number of soju shots could ever account to the way Sunghoon kisses him and leaves him in a daze. It’s the kind of daze that makes him love a little harder, wanting and needing all the uncertainties and revelling epiphanies that come with it all.

Sunghoon pulls away first, and it’s only because he needs to give his lungs a break. He rested his forehead against Sunoo’s, his eyes still closed as the two of them breathed heavily. “We should do this more often.”

“What?”

“The bet. We should make them more often.”

Giggling, Sunghoon leans forward to peck Sunoo’s lips softly, tenderly cupping the younger boy’s face. “If this is the outcome of every bet we make, then we can make one every single day if you’d like, hyung.” Sunghoon chuckles again, finding Sunoo’s eagerness endearing.

“Oh, and, I don’t mind you working out more.”

Sunghoon glared at him disapprovingly, but it was immediately replaced by a fond smile when Sunoo kissed his cheek. “You only want me to work out more because of my arms.”

“I’m really glad you know that.”

Later that night, the two of them find themselves tangled up in Sunghoon’s bed, with Sunoo’s head resting comfortably on his chest. It’s then when Sunghoon realises that this was the best thing that has come out of Sunoo being a temporary MC (and gave him the sole excuse of starting the bet in the first place).

He makes a mental note to thank Yeonjun and treat him to dinner the next time they see each other.

Notes:

yeonjun: somebody tell me why the hell sunghoon keeps saying thank you to me
