Chapter 1: You deserve recognition

Chapter Text

Aleksi found himself pressed against the door before he could even realize who attacked him the second he stepped into the apartment. The door shut with the force of his back hitting it, but before he could fall out of balance or knock his head against the wood, he was caught in somebody's strong arms. More precisely Joel’s very long arms that were perfect to wrap around his whole body, he learned when actually getting the chance to look up and seeing Joel’s face adorned with a wide smile.

Before he could say anything there were persistent lips on him, and they didn’t leave after one kiss, searching for more together with a hand slipping into his hair, not giving Aleksi even a second to understand the situation.

But Aleksi was happy to go along, pleased to get greeted so eagerly like he was welcomed and could make someone happy with his presence alone, as if he had been impatiently expected.

Nevertheless, as soon as Joel leaned away a few centimeters, Aleksi decided to tease him. “Can I at least shut the door before you decide to pounce on me the moment I come home?”

It was no real accusation because he really was feeling fortunate to have someone awaiting his arrival because he was loved . Also Joel didn’t seem to be fazed with Aleksi’s question, incessantly showing off his smile, still holding him.

“No, you can’t.” Joel said. “I saw your mail.”

Ah , that’s what it was about and brought Joel’s enthusiasm forward. This morning Aleksi had screenshotted an e-mail he had gotten from his label and sent it into the group chat before going off to work, for once not in the same studio as the guys but having accepted a production job with a solo artist.

It was the first time today he saw his boyfriend and he should have known that Joel foremost would award him with his pridefulness of his achievements, never one to let accomplishments slide past them silently, be it of himself or his friends.

It wasn’t like Aleksi didn’t feel it too, but he didn’t want to make a big thing out of it.

Thought he would let the others know and leave it at that, paying his label a visit tomorrow and then resume with his usual. And to be honest he wouldn’t have known what to say or to anticipate from the others, would have been uncomfortable to assume there would be anything at all, in the past he had if any celebrated with his grandparents and then had gone back to business, not used to grand gestures because of a silly reward that would just catch dust on the wall of his studio.

“Joonas will be here soon, he's getting groceries and will get us a bottle of wine and then we can celebrate.” Joel continued, the big grin on his face doing his best to affect Aleksi. “Shit Alex, platinum!”

He took him by the shoulders and shook him lightly, his excitement obvious and only fuelling Aleksi’s amusement.

Aleksi had to laugh at his boyfriend and his antics. “I know Joel, I got the notice first.”

“Then come on, get out of your clothes and into the kitchen.”

Aleksi had to laugh some more, knowing Joel meant his jacket and shoes and not all of his clothes. But he discarded his stuff quickly and followed Joel, taking out wine glasses out of a cupboard just in time for Joonas’ arrival.

He was greeted with another exuberant kiss and more congratulations that made him blush from the still unaccustomed attention and not knowing where to put the compliments about his music. It was one thing to like his own work and another to hear praise coming from very special people whose opinion actually counted.

Joonas put some bread with herbs and butter in the oven to give the wine some time to cool in the fridge and soon the flat smelled amazing from the food and was filled with laughter, enhanced by the sweet wine that went into their heads as they sat and talked, words twisting into giggles, and light touches gaining meaning.

One bottle eventually turned into two and Joel leaned over to whisper the same words from earlier into Aleksi’s ear: “Get out of your clothes.”
