Work Text:
The moon is full above his head, he stares up at it as he rests on the soft grass under him. Fireflies dance around him, and a bee or two fly past, heading home. Tubbo sighs in contentment.
“Tubbo!” Phil, his sire, calls out, “Dinner mate!”
Tubbo’s eyes flick off the side, and a second later he stands next to the leader of his coven, “What is it tonight?” He asks, walking inside the shared home of his un-dead family.
A soft cozy cabin, with warm lights and blacked-out windows. A table was set for 5, and the scent of blood was strong in the air.
Tubbo’s pupils dilate at the smell, he is not very old, not compared to the others in his family, and he has a grasp on his instinct. Just not as well as he may want-
“Techno caught a larger human tonight.” Phil smiles as he leads Tubbo over to the table where 1 person already sits.
The 2nd oldest vampire in the house looks up from the book in his hands, “How's the weather?” Techno asks eyes a constant crimson color, and hair a long, soft pink that reaches his lower back. It is pulled back into a ponytail tonight. A crown clip holds the strands of pink back and his skin is a soft color. He always wears victorian era type clothes, dress pants, heeled boots, and buttoned-up shirts.
“Nice as normal,” Tubbo responds sitting down.
Techno nods looking back at his book, “Good.”
Phil sits at the head of the table, a white and green striped bucket hat sits on his head, blonde hair pulled into a low ponytail that reaches his shoulders. He has a green robe of sorts and a black, or greyish-colored shirt and pajama pants on. His eyes are ocean blue, “Where are Wilbur and Ranboo?” The oldest asks, folding his hands on the table.
“Sorry!” The chair next to Tubbo rocks and Ranboo smiles sheepishly, stabilizing himself before they can tumble over, “I got distracted.”
“You were asleep,” Wilbur says, now next to Techno, grin sharp.
Ranboo is only a decade older than Tubbo. They have split eyes, half green from before they were turned and the other a crimson red. They have brown and dark chocolate hair. They dress from some time around the 60s, a black and white striped shirt, and a pair of checkered jeans made of many colors that just hurt to look at. They have about a dozen bracelets up their arms and a pair of mich matched socks.
“You were asleep,” Wilbur says, now next to Techno, grin sharp.
Wilbur, who dresses the most modern of all of them beside Phil. A brown sweater with a matching beanie pushing down short, brown curls. He has a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, and a pair of black jeans with a yellow hoodie wrapped around his waist. His eyes are a deep brown, appearing red even without his instincts being triggered sometimes.
“Well, just glad you all made it.” Phil claps his hand, smiling with all his teeth, “Enjoy the meal boys.”
And so they do.
Tubbo wanders the outskirts of their territory, humming slightly. People tend to think they are safe from his kind because of the sun, thinking they can only come out at night. Not true, sure the sun feels weird, but it won't harm them. So he enjoys walking the edge of the clearing they live in, or the path that leads out. He won’t enter the forest, that is not his territory, and he could be hunted out there. So he is content to stay in vampire territories, and cities. He may be 187 years old, but he is far from an adult in the eyes of the supernatural world. older than most wolfs get, unless you're an alpha your life expectancy is around 140. Even if you are one, you tend to get cut off at 200. Vampires never die of age, but that doesn’t make them the highest on the supernatural scale, especially since wood is such an easy weapon against them. Mermaids live to the same age as humans but are still above humans on the scale. Sirens are higher, 100-150 being their life expectancy. There… There are a lot of creatures.
The highest ranking, on all scales, however, would have to be the fae. Not to be confused with the fairy folk. Tubbo… doesn’t know much about the fae, other than the rules for encountering them.
He walks the rings of wildflowers that make up their border, humming slightly still.
“Well, well, well.” A rough voice mocks.
Tubbo looks into the trees and sees 3 men standing with crossbows, all armed and loaded.
Tubb narrows his eyes, eyes flashing at the sign of danger. He backs from the border, hissing, and showing his teeth.
One of the men laughs, “Ohhh, a feisty one! You’ll sell for a lot.”
“Hell yeah, it will! It's young too, still trainable.” Tubbo flips around and sees another man and 2 women. How had he not heard or smelt them?
“Aww, wondering how you got so caught off guard?” One of the females mocks, “You’d be surprised what perfume can hide, especially surrounded by so much nature.”
Tubbo looks around quickly, he needs a plan, and he needs one NOW. Someone else should have sensed his distress by now- Dammit he shouldn’t have gone so far! What if there is more back at the house?
He hisses again, preparing to lunge at one of them.
“Ah, ah, ah.” 6 crossbows, dripping with… wolf venom. Shit. Are all trained on him.
“What do you want.” He demands, eyes bleeding red.
One of the men laugh, “Money, and vampires are high selling right now.”
Tubbo, tenses.
“Nighty, nighty fr-”
Something changes in the air, he feels… wrong.
“Well, isn’t this interesting?” A sweet voice says, echoing slightly in all their ears, “The humans seem to wanna play on my land… I hate to sound so rude, but I am not a fan of intruders.”
Tubbo looks up and sees a boy sitting on a tree branch up high. His hair looks like gold, reflecting in the sun, his skin is a soft porcelain look and his eyes are sapphires. Like- they look exactly like sapphires. He wears an expensive, spotless white tunic, and sort, almost regal-looking dress pants with knee-high boots. A crown of flowers sits on his head, and a few freckles spot his face. A red cloak is spread out behind him, held together by a golden clasp. His hands, arms, and neck are covered in jewels, and earrings hang down from his ears…
His pointed ears.
He looks spotless, perfect. More perfect than any mortal being should.
“A fae.” One of the women mutters.
The blonde creature waves slightly, sliding off the tree and landing with a certain elegance on the ground. The red cloak goes to his knees and hangs at his sides, head tilting. The sun catches his hair, making the creature almost glow.
“Indeed, may I ask why you are on my land?” He smiles, it’s beautifully disturbing, sharp, yet perfect teeth become visible.
One of the men bow his head, “I am so sorry, we were not aware this land was claimed.” He explains quickly.
Up close, you can see that the fae’s pupils are split, almost like a snake, or cat eyes.
“I see.” It looks to Tubbo, “You are hunting a creature on their own territory? Last I checked that was against the rules. This….” The creature looks Tubbo up and down, “Vampire, is on its covens land is it not? I believe that all of the highest powers of each species agreed upon a no-hunt rule if on a creature's native land.” The fae gives an unimpressed look, “I am not a fan of broken rules.”
The humans all shuffle back a bit, “We are-”
The creature shakes its head, “Run along now little one.” It says, flicking its wrist as vines begin to grow up every hunter's legs, “Unless you wish to watch the show.” It grins, teeth sharp.
Tubbo tries to move, and run, but he feels frozen. He watches wildlife consume the men and women around him. Bones snap, and they all scream as they are dragged under the surface of the earth. Becoming one with nature.
The fae runs a hand through its golden hair, “Humans are such feeble little things.” It says, “If I hadn’t shown you’d be dead, vampire.”
Tubbo nods, furrowing his brows, “No, but my coven…”
The fae leans down and grabs a necklace that didn’t fuse with the earth. It glows a soft purple, “Whiches magic, made against vampires. Typically very pricey.” It hums, examining, “Your coven has not the slightest clue anything is wrong. Though I wouldn’t worry about this being a common occurrence, these are far too expensive, and hard to make. This one alone must have taken at least a decade to create.”
Tubbo nods, “I see…” He gulps in the air, unsure what to do, “I appreciate the help.” He dips his head a bit, is that what he is supposed to do?
The fae smiles at him, “You were willing to fight all of them, yes?”
Tubbo looks away, sheepishly.
“Join me for lunch?” The fae offers, setting the piece of jewelry in its pocket, “We shall call it a debt repaid?”
Tubbo blinks. Right, fae considers help, a favor that needs to be repaid.
He nods, “Sure.”
The fae smiles brighter, “Fantastic!.” It claps its hands, “Follow me young one.” It turns on its heels and begins walking deeper into the vibrant trees.
Tubbo gulps as he follows slowly behind.
“So, what may your name be?” The fae asks, looking at Tubbo with curious eyes.
“You may call me Tubbo.” He responds, relaxing a bit. He needs to keep on guard, the fae are tricky creatures, but this one doesn’t seem intent to harm him, yet-
The creature hums. It sounds like windchimes oddly enough, “A nickname I see. You are quite smart!”
Tubbo smiles, “I appreciate that, and what shall I call you?”
The creature looks up, “Hm, you may call me Tommy.” It decides quickly.
Tubbo nods, “Alright, Tommy it is then.” He smiles.
The creature, now known as Tommy, comes to a stop in a very small clearing, “Here we are! Do you have the ability to eat normal foods, or must it be blood? I understand all vampires are different in their dietary needs?”
Tubbo blinks and a small table sits in front of him, with a plate on either side and 2 nice chairs. Tommy sits in the red one, and so Tubbo takes the white one.
Tubbo perks up at the question, “I am capable of eating human food.” Not many people know of that fact, “Do you know many vampires?”
Tommy laughs, and bells fill the forest around them, “A few I suppose. I have been here a very long time, it would be awkward if I didn’t know much about any creature that could enter my home or ring.” It explains, resting one leg over the other.
Tubbo nods along, “I see.” he smiles, “If I may, how old are you then?” He raises his eyebrows.
Tommy waves a hand, and a pot of tea appears, along with small cakes. When could fae use such magic?
“It is considered rude to ask a fae their age.” Tommy says calmly, “However, since I have a feeling you know little of my kind, I shall excuse it in return for your own age.”
Tubbo stiffens a bit, “I see, I apologize for such a rude question, and appreciate the opportunity to make it up to you. I am 187.”
Tommy’s eyes glow brighter, “My, I thought you were at least in your 300s. You are younger than a thought. Barley a baby even.” It tilts its head, leaning its decorated hands, “How interesting.”
Tubbo smiles at the curiosity in the eyes of the fae, “Yeah, I am the youngest in my coven.” He admits, taking a drink of the tea- Honey. sweet honey, cinnamon, and a slight minty taste, “This is very good.” He praises, looking down at it.
Tommy perks up, “Appreciated, it is a recipe of mine.”
Tubbo nods, taking another drink, “It is amazing Tommy!” He grins widely, at the now almost shy look on the faes face.
“Again, appreciated.” Its voice is softer now.
“May I ask something?”
Tommy nods, “Depends on the something.”
Tubbo looks down at the table, “I wasn’t aware fae could summon objects and food?”
“Ah!” Tommy perks back up, “Most cannot, however, the table was simply hidden by glamor-” Tubbo nods, recognizing the term used for fae magic, “-And older, or higher fae are able to summon anything from inside their rings.” Tommy explains easily, “I have an interest in varying foods, especially human, so I keep a collection of it in my ring.”
“Okay! That sounds cool.” He takes a bite of one of the cakes, and melts into the chair, “Oh m’ god.” He mutters, “This ‘s heaven.”
Tommy laughs loudly, and bells again fill the area, “You seem quite happy with the food choice?”
Tubbo swallows the last bite and nods quickly, “Yes! Can all fae cook this well?” He questions quickly.
Tommy shrugs, “I have many talents, it happens when you spend as long as I have alone.”
Tubbo frowns slightly, “Ah… I thought you said-”
“It seems to be getting late.” The fae stands, “It was very nice meeting and talking with you. Tubbo.” Its face is soft, and there is something unreadable there.
Tubbo stands, getting the hint, “Yes it was.” He nods, “Thanks for having me.”
Something flashes in Tommy's eyes but he says nothing, “Of course. Walk in any direction, I will assure you make it back home safely.”
Tubbo turns to look where they had walked from, “The border is-” Not in sight like it was before? His eyes widen, turning in a circle, noticing that they are far deeper in than Tubo had originally thought, “Okay then.”
Tommy smiles, “Have a good day.” The fae turns and starts in a different direction.
Tubbo goes to leave as well, but pauses, “Tommy?” He calls out.
Tommy stops, not turning around, “Yes?”
“May I return tomorrow?” Tubbo asks shyly, “I enjoyed talking with you.”
Tommy turns to him, with a surprised look, that slowly melts into happiness, “Sure. Just walk into the forest. You will find this clearing no matter the direction you go.”
Tubbo nods, “Cya!” He waves, speeding off through the trees, back inside his territory within seconds. He takes a deep breath, looking back at the trees. He grins and rushes back to the house, who knew he’d make a new friend today?
Tubbo does go back the next day. Then the next, and the next. It becomes a routine, and when Tubbo has nothing better to do, he goes into the forest, finding Tommy sitting in the small clearing. No one questions where Tubbo goes, all his family knows is the young vampire has made a friend and he seems very happy about it.
They are lying in the grass, it is noon and the sun reflects off of Tommy, just as it always does. As if he is gold himself.
“Hey, Tom’s?”
“Hm?”
“Why do you live alone?” Tubbo asks softly. Tubbo likes to think of himself as observant, but anyone could notice the way Tommy lightens when Tubbo arrives, the way he leans into touch, takes compliments like a lifeline, and seems so Edgar to keep Tubbo around as long as possible.
Tommy says nothing for a long while, and Tubbo starts to worry he angered his new friend in some way, “You don’t-”
“I don’t live alone.” Tommy admits, “I live with my mother.”
Tubbo frowns, “You seem so… you know? All the time though.”
Tommy shrugs, “I live under the same roof as her, it doesn’t mean I ever see her.” He says it so casually.
“Can uh…” Tubbo hesitates, “Can I hug you?”
Tommy’s eyes widen, and he looks over at Tubbo. Tommy, as much as he may want it, doesn’t engage in physical contact much. He has ruffled Tubbo’s hair a few times, and once helped Tubbo wrap a scratch along his leg. But other than that, it is few and small between. Never full contact. Never a hug.
“It’s fine if not, you just look like you need one,” Tubbo says with a smile.
Tommy nods, “Okay.”
Tubbo tilts his head, “Okay?”
“You may hug me.” The blonde says, sitting up, and looking away from Tubbo.
Tubbo wraps his arms around Tommy’s torso carefully, resting his head under the blonde's chin. When he feels arms wrap around him as well he smiles impossibly brighter.
“Thank you,” Tommy whispers against Tubbo's head.
“Anytime boss man.”
Tubbo has no idea what Tommy had just said. ‘Thank you.’ To a fae is a debt. He owes Tubbo. Tubbo may not know that, but he does.
“Tubbo!?”
They both look up, and Tommy straightens out, “One of your coven members has entered the forest.” Tommy hums. His eyes glowing, a sign Tubbo knows means he is doing magic, hiding the clearing and anything else he doesn’t want to be found.
“What time is it?” Tubbo asks, blinking quickly.
“It is nearly 5.”
Tubbos eyes widen, “What!?” He looks up at the slowly setting sun, “When did-”
Tommy looks away, “Sorry, I uh… It happens when I relax. I need to focus to keep the time flow in the forest the same as out when you're in here. Time moves much faster normally.”
Tubbo nods, “It’s fine, I need to get home though Tommy.”
Tommy nods, “As always, you will be home no matter where you go. As well…” Tommy looks up, “The one with 2 different eyes.”
Tubbo nods and stands, speeding off quickly. Tubbo exits the forest a few seconds before Ranboo does.
They pant, looking wide-eyed at Tubbo, “What were you doing in there!” They demand.
Tubbo shuffles his feet, “Lost track of time, sorry Boo.”
Rambo sighs, hugging Tubbo tightly, “I was so worried, and so was everyone else.” They mutter, “Why were you out in the forest? You know it’s dangerous.”
Tubbo shakes his head, “I am safe in there Boo. Tommy makes sure of it.” He assures.
Ranboo furrows their eyebrows, “Tommy? Your new friend.”
Tubbo nods.
Ranboo looks out into the forest, “I… Yeah, okay.” They agree.
“Let’s get inside.” Tubbo grabs ranboo’s arm, leading them back to the house.
He has now known Tommy for little over 6 months. The fae has become more physically affectionate and open. He acts less regal around Tubbo and seems relaxed. It has been nice to have someone new to be around and talking to. Tommy is his bestfriend.
…
He is considering giving the fae his name. His true one. Which he WAS planning to do today however, instead, Tubbo sits in his room pouting. He is grounded! GROUNDED! All because he lost control. Not his fault a bleeding human came into their territory! Now he can’t see Tommy for a WEEK. What is he meant to do with himself? He had a PLAN, his family hasn’t met Tommy, for obvious reasons. They would never let him see the fae again! EVER.
Techno walks into his room, and sits on the floor next to him, “Your acting like a child.” He comments, grinning at his youngest brother.
Tubbo huffs, “I'm bored.” He complains.
Techno nods, “I see that. You know you can go see your friend right?” Techno reminds gently.
Tubbo rolls his eyes, “I’d have to take one of you with me though.”
Techno narrows his eyes, “Is that a bad thing?”
“No.” Tubbo looks at his brother, “He just doesn’t like surprises is all.”
Techno nods skeptically, “Sure.” He mutters, “What do you intend to do then?”
“Read, hang out with Boo, bother Wilbur.” He shrugs.
Techno snorts, “Fun.”
“Very.”
Techno gets to his feet and looks down at Tubbo, “Have fun Tubs.”
Tubbo groans, “Yep.”
He hears Techno shut the door, and Tubbo rolls onto his stomach. He huffs in annoyance, he may as well start reading. He convinced Phil to bring him a bunch of books on the fae race. Aka, 3 books.
“The class, ranking, and powers of the fae.”
“History of the fae.”
“Courts in the fae realm.”
Tubbo picks up the history one first.
Tubbo reads all day, he learns that the fae was brought about by the despair a hatred of the king of the courts. The king, the first fae to walk the earth, and has been around for far longer than any living thing. The king, after thousands of years, found someone he grew to love and care for, only for them to die of mortal age. In his grief, his magic said to be granted by lady death, just as was his existence, lashed out, and turned a now extinct flower, that he had planted on the person's grave, into what is now the fae. “The original.” Are what those dozen or so are called. That is how many of them are left after millions of years. They bread, and the creatures grew, the king created the realm they now call home. The fae king is one of the oldest beings on earth, next to a few animals, plants, and then life and death of course. It's crazy to think about.
He may ask Tommy to show him the realm sometime, the description sounds beautiful.
Most of the book just talks about how everything was made. It isn’t a very long book.
He then moves on to the class, ranking, and powers of the fae.
There are 4 ranks of the fae. Lesser, norm, higher, and then royalty. Lesser fae is usually those with little to no magic abilities, they are usually disregarded and thrown from the realm. Norms have the normal amount of magic, they are the lost rank in the realm itself, but they still hold respect as they are considered fae. Lessers are not. Higher holds more than average power, and will usually be the head of a court, or a descendent of one. Then royalty… The king is the only royal fae to be recorded, but it is said he has the most power of all of them.
Fae abilities include-
Lesser
-None/the ability to make a ring.
Norm
-Use the power of names
-make and own a ring
-use glamor
-claim part of a small forest.
-If old enough, call from their ring.
Higher
-All the same as the norms
-Can use higher levels of glamor magic
-Tends to have certain abilities based on a season
-can control a court
-change their appearance
-claim a whole small-sized forest
Then the king.
-Literally anything a fae could ever want to do. Such as.
-No limit to glamor
-change his appearance, gender form, ANYTHING
-control the whole realm
-can go between the worlds without a ring.
-can call upon death's magic. (To an extent.)
-Can control the flow of time in claimed areas.
-Can create fae, or take away fae abilities
-Can claim any place with wildlife.
Tubbo blinks at the list, damn… It keeps GOING. What can’t this guy do? There is no way there is something this powerful out there… Here he thought the original wolf, vampire, siren, and witch were strong…
He doesn’t even read the last book, he knows everything he needs to know.
The book even talked about what happens if a fae gave you its true name, you can summon it! That is kinda cool…. Doesn’t talk about much besides common stuff if you give one your name. They can call you, and they have come extent of control over you when saying your name…
Tommy would never give his name though. He is too cautious about that.
He sighs and shuffles downstairs, Phil and Wilbur are playing a board game. He walks over and sits down on the sofa. He leans on his hands, watching them play.
“Hey, bud.” Phil smiles at him, “Enjoy your books?”
Tubbo nods, “Yeah. Learned a lot about them.”
“The fae?” Wilbur asks curiously.
Tubbo nods.
“What is with the sudden interest in fae?” Wilbur asks, rolling dice, “You only got interested like, a month and a half ago. What caused it?” His brother looks over at him.
Tubbo shrugs, “My friend likes them, and I wanted to be able to talk to him about it.” The lie comes easier than it should. He can’t say because Tommy was talking about his realm and Tubbo got curious. Because well, that would give away that Tommy is a fae.
“Tommy?” Phil asks curiously, “I have been meaning to ask, what is he? You two have been friends for over half a year, and we know hardly anything about him.”
Tubbo flexes his hand, “Witch.”
Phil narrows his eyes, “Tubbo you are a horrible liar.” He comments.
Tubbo shrugs, “He is a witch.” He says with as serious of a voice as he can. But his sire is staring him down.
“ Toby. ” Phil raises his eyebrows.
Wilbur shrinks back a bit, even if he isn’t the target of the voice, using a sire voice around any of your children it will give the effect.
Tubbo stiffens and his pupils dilate, “I-”
“ What is your friend? ”
Tubbo gulps, he opens his mouth but-
“Tubbo, can you promise me something?” Tommy asks, over tea one time.
“Sure boss man.” Tubbo nods, shoveling food into his mouth.
Tommy laughs, “Slow down, you’ll choke.”
“Can’t kill what's already dead.” He reminds but chews and swallows nonetheless, “Okay, now what's up?”
“Never tell your family what I am.” He gives Tubbo a very serious look.
Tubbo tilts his head, “Okay.”
“No, promise me.” Tommy looks at him, dead in the eyes.
Tubbo smiles slightly, “I promise I will never tell anyone you are a fae until I am given the okay, Tommy. If they ever ask, I will just say you are a witch or something.”
Tommy sighs with relief, “Okay.”
“He is a witch Phil.” Tubbo repeats. He feels Tommy’s magic buzz around him, something tells him Tommy knows what just happened. Is this what happens when you promise something to a fae?
Phil studies Tubbo for a moment before nodding, “Okay then.” He sighs, “Will we ever meet him?”
Tubbo considers that “Do I have to introduce you?”
Phil shakes his head, “Not unless I think you are in danger.”
Tubbo smiles, “Then no, you won't.”
He looks down at the ground from the window of his room. He needs to let Tommy know he won't be there for at least a week. The blonde is definitely the kind to overthink. He pushes himself a bit forward-
“That isn’t a smart idea little one.” A familiar voice says behind him.
Tubbo turns with wide eyes, looking at Tommy who sits on his bed with a soft smile.
“Tommy?” He jumps back into his room, tackling the blonde with a grin, “How did you get in here!” Tubbo laughs, lying on top of his best friend. His brothers are great, but they are his brothers. Tommy is his best friend. Tommy returns the hug easily, Tommy has been more open to physical touch since they hugged, and it has been 2 weeks since then!
“I flew in?” Tommy says as if it were obvious.
Tubbo sits up with wide eyes, “You have wings.”
Tommy blinks, “Yeah, all fae do.”
Tubbo gaps down at Tommy, “I wanna see them.”
Tommy rolls his eyes, “Not happening. Your room is way too small.”
Tubbo pouts, “But I wanna see them.” He mutters, “Please Tom’s?”
Tommy looks away from Tubbo and sits up, “Your room is too small.”
“Then take me to the forest.” Tubbo grins.
“You are grounded.” Tommy reminds.
Tubbo blinks, “How did you-”
“I heard your brother talking about it before I flew up here.” He shrugs, crossing his legs.
Tubbo nods looking down, “They don’t have to know…”
“They are your cozen, they will-”
Tubbo looks at Tommy, dead in the eyes, “Can you hide that I left? With glamour.” He asks dead out. Tommy can’t lie, no fae can.
Tommy stares at Tubbo for a few moments before sighing, “Fine,” He stands up. Putting his hands up slightly, “You asked for this. You owe me.”
Tubbo nods, “Okay.”
Actually… now that he thinks about it, shouldn’t someone have heard them talking already? Phil can hear the whole house. Unless Tommy is using magic already?
Tommy's eyes glow a brighter blue, “Okay, now let's go.” He grabs Tubbo’s hand and walks over to the window, not hesitating to jump out, dragging Tubbo with him.
“To-” A hand covers his mouth and he closes his eyes, as Tommy’s arms wrap around him, and something jolts his body, and then they are on the grass.
“Are we-” He whispers.
“Okay, open your eyes” Tommy lets go, walking away.
Tubbo does as told, they stand in the clearing, “how-”
Tommy grins, “I will not tell you yet little one.”
Tubbo rolls his eyes in response, “Of course.” He smiles, looking at Tommy expectantly, “Now, wings please!” He jumps a few times, eyes glowing with excitement.
Tommy looks down for a second, a contemplating look on his face, “I uh… I haven’t….” He trails off.
Tubbo frowns tilting his head, “Is something wrong? Is it bad to show your wings to someone?”
Tommy shakes his head, “No, just- no one has seen my wings in a while, other than me.” He shrugs, “it’s fine.” He takes off the normal red cloak he wears that never gets dirty no matter what. It falls to the floor and Tommy’s eyes close slowly.
Tubbo waits a few seconds. Nothing happens. He frowns deeper, “Is-” He stops, mouth open as he watches a pair of wings unfold from behind Tommy.
They are beautiful.
They are white but fade into red at the tips. They slowly turn translucent and almost look like they turn to dust at the ends, red blowing off in the wind. Yet they never get smaller. Tommy opens his eyes, looking at Tubbo with an unsure look.
Tubbo is walking forward before he knows it, “Can… can I?” He stops a foot or so away from Tommy, hand outstretched, “How big are they?” He breaths.
“Each one is 10 feet.” He mutters, folding them against his body a bit more, they to his feet, then all the way to his eyes, “And uh, that is usually something that-” He shrugs, “No one ever has before. At least not since….” His eyes go distant for a moment.
Tubbo nods, “It’s okay if you don’t want me to.” He assures with a soft smile. He never wants Tommy uncomfortable.
Tommy shakes his head, “No, it’s- it’s fine.” His wings extend a bit more as he sits on the grass.
Tubbo sits beside him, hand hovering over the feathers, “You sure Tom’s?”
Tommy nods, looking at Tubbo with certainty, “Yeah. Yeah, you can touch them.”
Tubbo nods, and his hand meets the softest thing he has ever felt. EVER. This is what he imagines clouds feeling like. He runs his hand down the soft feathers slowly, “beautiful.” He mutters.
Tommy laughs slightly, “Thanks.” He says, eyes closed, body relaxed, “I take pride in how they look.” He admits.
“I can tell.” He repeats the motion, “Is this what clouds feel like?”
Tommy huffs, “No, my wings are much softer thank you very much.” He opens his eyes and the first thing Tubbo notices is that Tommy’s puppies are DILATED like all hell. Speaks of gold float through his eyes as well.
Tubbo nods, “Wow.” That is all he can say.
Tommy smiles, “Glad you like them.” He slowly wraps both wings around himself and Tubbo, pulling the younger creature close to himself. It has been a long time since he could wrap his wings around someone, and protect someone like this, “It was important to me that you did.”
Tubbo melts into the hold, softness surrounding him, warmth and contentment flowing through him, “I do, I really, really do Tommy.” He whispers, running his hand down the wings that are now walls encasing them, keeping out the cold.
“My name is Theseus,” Tommy says slowly like the name is foreign to his tongue.
Tubbo feels it, something connect in his brain, a pull of magic around the word
“ Theseus… ” It reminds him of soft rain and ringing bells. Tommy sighs, eyes dilating more if possible, “It is fitting.” He looks up at Tommy, who just smiles down at Tubbo.
“If you ever need me, just call. I will always hear you.” It is a promise.
Tubbo nods, “Okay.” he agrees.
Tommy buries his face in chocolate brown hair, “I'm really happy you like them Tubbo.”
Tubbo smiles slightly, “ Toby, call me Toby .”
The world freezes for a split second, “You don’t know what you just did, do you…” Tommy whispers, “ Toby .”
The word makes Tubbo’s vision go black for a split second, his body goes completely limp, and the only thing he can hear is his name echo in his brain.
He comes too quickly though and gasps for breath he does not need, “What the hell-”
“Shhhh.” Tommy hushed, running a hand through soft hair, “You will be drained, I forgot just how young you were little one. I should have considered before using your true name so soon after your instincts were forced out.”
Tubbo blinks slowly at the words, “Huh…? My instinct was not…” He notices then that his nails have sharpened and were digging into porcelain skin. His eyes widen, “I didn’t-”
“You're fine.” Tommy just holds him tighter, “I do not mind.”
Tubbo nods, “Okay.” He mutters.
Tommy’s hand runs through his hair slowly, and it calms him in a similar way to how Phil can calm him. Is a true name similar to a sire?
“ Theseus… ” Tubbo mutters again. Tommy hums, wings shifting.
“Yes?”
“I… I don’t know?” He closes his eyes, “Can you- what rank are you? I have been reading about fae and-”
Tommy makes a strange sound, almost like clicking, “That is a rude question little one.”
Tubbo closes his mouth, “Sorry…”
“It is okay,” Tommy mutters.
Tubbo’s eyes open again, “Are- what does-”
Tommy smiles at him, “Sleep now.” He says softly, “ Sleep now, Toby .” He orders and Tubbo slowly drifts off into a calm sleep.
Tommy smiles down at the vampire in front of him. Tubbo doesn’t know what he just did, does he? Only the family of a fae can touch its wings. For a fae to give another creature its name is an honor of its own… But Theseus is a special case.
It lets its magic pool around the small creature, he has his name now, Toby . He must get his family a gift, something shiny and beautiful. Something… perfect.
This. This is it. Tommy crafts the perfect gift for his family. His brother. Yeah, that sounds right. Brother. Tommy perks up at the thought, he lays upside down on a tree branch. He inspects the glowing ring. Theseus . Engraved in it, in fae langue. It is a sign that this little one belongs to him, and anyone who dares to touch him goes through Tommy first. There is also a soft blanket that he made from the finest silk in his realm, a golden bracelet matching one of Tommy’s, and a vial. A vial with blood inside. Tommy’s blood to be exact, it’s not red, no, it’s a soft silver color. Tubbo is his brother and completed the required steps for the fae kind. For vampires, however, you must drink the blood of the other creature, provide a gift, and allow them to sire you or sire them. Tubbo has gifted him many things over the months,P and sharing true names is equivalent to a sire. Just stronger and better.
All that is left is the blood.
Then, however, he feels it. Hears it.
“ Help, please I need you Theseus .” And Tommy’s blood boils.
Phil stands infront of Tubbo and Ranboo, Wilbur and Techno dripping blood everywhere. Phil too was covered in blood, but the issue is, there are still whole packs of werewolves, and they all laced their blood with vampire toxins. Something none of them realized until they finished their meal and the pack jumped them. Now, Phil, Wilbur, and Techno are all getting way too weak to properly fight, and Tubbo and Ranboo are still far too young. Ranboo’s hand grips his tightly, concern and fear evident on their face.
“Give up old man!” The alpha taunts, the pack barking and howling behind him loudly, “You ain't winning this!”
Phil is shaking, his body far weaker than it should be. They have all consumed way more laced blood than they should, it can’t be good. At first there were only a few, Tubbo and Ranboo even had killed one or two. But they are younger, and the laced blood has a worse effect on them.
“What do you want Lewis.” Phil questions, wiping blood from his mouth.
Lewis- the alpha- laughs, “This was OUR territory first! We are taking it back you blood-sucking freaks don’t deserve it.”
Wilbur shakes his head, “We don’t own the forest, you can’t run freely through it anymore.”
The wolf rolls his eyes, “Then we will take it back from whatever is in there too.”
Tubbo stiffens. Tommy. No no no- what if… there are too many, there is no way Tommy can handle all of this himself, right? He shrinks in on himself, he can’t call for him, not with so many… but- maybe…
“I’m done playing.” The wolf spits, “Games over bloodsucker.” Moving with inhuman speed, body shifting into a large gray wolf. He is lunging at Phill, mouth open.
The 3 oldest are two weeks to move fast enough to stop it. They still try of course but it isn’t long before they are pinned down. Ranboo freezes up. So Tubbo moves before he thinks, shoving Phil out of the way as he throws his arms up.
“TUBBO!” His family shouts as the wolf bites down on his arm. The toxin immediately makes him dizzy and he falls to the floor, the wolf backing away with a snarl. He stares down at the open wound, already starting to blacken.
“A fool of a child.” The wolf spits, “You’ve doomed yourself. Your home is mine, give up.” He is still in his wolf form, only alphas can still speak in their wolf forms.
Tubbo shakes his head, tears falling freely, “I-I won’t let you.” He manages through burning pain that moves up his arm. He watches his veins slowly become visible. Shit.
“Oh?” The wolfs start barking and howling again, “What will you do about it?” The alpha stands tall, towering far above Tubbo even in wolf form. He’s mocking him.
“I will do nothing.” Tubbo closes his eyes. He trusts him, he trusts Tommy, “The creature in the forest, however…” He opens his eyes and looks up at the expecting wolf, “ Help, please, I need you Theseus .” The wolf raises a clawed paw and goes to strick his face, Phil tries to move from the floor but is unable.
He tucks his head down, “ THESEUS PLEASE! ” Shit, he really is about to die huh? He never even got to-
The room grows cold. He expects a hit that never comes. He feels warm and calm. He feels magic. Slowly he opens his eyes and sees a head of blonde hair infront of him. He smiles, practically sobbing with relief as the fae bends down, looking at Tubbo’s arm, holding it with gentle hands. The wolf pack has backed up a bit, the alpha has shifted into a human form again.
“Oh, little one.” Tommy’s voice is soft, worried, “I will help you, may I have a moment to deal with the muts behind this first?” His hand cups Tubbo’s face and so he leans into it, “Or do you need me immediately, I can make this fast if so.”
“I will be okay a moment longer.” He assures and Tommy nods standing. Looking around the room. He trusts Tubbo's word. Tubbo smiles at the thought.
“Hm… Truly a foolish pack, not even making sure there is no outside force?.” He shakes his head, crossing his arms, “Do you know the precautions of trying to harm what belongs to a fae?”
The alpha steps back, and the vampire's eyes widen. They look to Tubbo who just watches Tommy with bright eyes.
“Y-You said there was no fae in this area!” He turns to a wolf near him. They seem to talk with their eyes for a moment before the alpha drops to a knee, “I am so sorry, I was not aware that you had claimed this land.”
Tommy tsks, “I care not for the land.” He steps forward, using a hand to tilt the wolf's head up, “What I care about is that you hurt my vampire. Bite him even.” He scowls deeply.
“I am so sorry-”
“I am aware.” Tommy’s hand raises, a smile growing on his face, teeth sharp, sharper than normal, “However, you have a very large debt to pay. Your pack's lives will suffice?” His hand closes and the Alpha's eyes widen in horror. Tubbo doesn’t know what he is seeing, but he knows that the wolfs around them all begin to whimper and back away, blood flowing from every opening on their body, “You will never be forgiven. You have harmed a royal fae, you will never live in peace again, I will assure you that.”
Now Tubbo’s eyes widen, “Wh-What?” He whispers. Arm is feeling numb now.
Tommy looks back at Tubbo, eyes a beautiful mix of black and gold, “Suprise little one.” His ears point more, and an aura surrounds him. Death. Death surrounds him.
“You are-”
Tommy nods, “I am.” He turns back to the alpha, dead wolf surrounding the two, blood coating the floors, “A weak little thing you are.” He hums, it sounds like soft music, violin in a way, “Your death will not have any peace. I will make sure of that.” Vines creep into the room, wrapping around the wolf who starts screaming and thrashing as he is dragged from the cabin. Blood trailed after him.
The vampires, the only living things after the massacre they had just witnessed, stare in a mix of amazement, horror, and confusion.
Tommy turns back to Tubbo, wings suddenly present as he kneels down infront of the vampire, “Are you okay?” He moves hair from Tubbo’s face.
“You're the king fae.” He breathes out.
Tommy smiles softly, “I am.” He confirms, “And you were bitten by a wolf, my dear.” He holds up his wrist which Tubbo looks at in confusion, “It will heal the bite.” He explains.
Tubbo nods, “Are you sure, I don’t wanna-”
“You can’t hurt me.” He assures.
Tubbo nods.
Tommy doesn’t even feel the teeth sink into his skin, just feels the sudden calm radiate from his brother. He smiles, Tubbo will be okay.
“Your Tommy.”
He turns his head, a man with blonde hair, covered in blood looks at him in slight wonder.
“That is what you may call me, yes.” He smiles, moving to a more comfortable position, pulling his brother closer to him, “You would be Phil.”
The man nods, bowing his head, “That is also what you may call me, I appreciate the help today.”
Tommy hums, looking back to Tubbo, using his free hand to run through chocolate curls, “I didn’t do it for you. He called, and I simply answered.”
Phil nods, “I see. You are the king fae… I never…”
“I am, and you will tell no one anything about me.” He gives a hardened look to the blonde man.
“Of course.” He notices the other two raise to their feet as well, “He should probably stop.” Phil says, looking at Tubbo who is still drinking.
Tommy shrugs, “I don’t particularly care. He may have as much of my blood as he wants. I have more than I need.”
“Tubbo said you were a witch.” Wilbur pipes up.
“Indeed, my magic is far stronger than any sired bond is.” He smiles, “You lucky I haven’t stolen him yet. He seems happy here though, so I won’t do that.”
Phil nods, “Alright then.”
Tommy slowly wraps his wings around the vampire infront of him.
“ Yet, your mine now though Toby , and I will protect you. Until the day this planet gives way. ”
He means it.
After all.
The fae may not lie.
