Epilogue

A year had passed since the death of Richard Carson, and things couldn’t be better. He had been posthumously shamed for what he did, and humanity had since picked up a much better representative. Her name was Alexis Harrison, born and raised in Sweden. She had been a soldier before she was ever a politician, which made her a perfect candidate, just like Commander Shepard’s reasoning for choosing Captain Anderson all those years ago. She had been doing well in her post thus far, keeping tensions low and making sure that humanity was given the respect they deserved.

Things on Omega were going much better as well; Imperius had managed to secure the place he worked so hard for, on top of the Merchant’s Guild. He was the one calling the shots, and making sure that there were at least relatively true business practices. This had came with many things, including stress, and a much nicer base of operations. At first, Imperius had lived in his apartment alone, spending most of his time in the new HQ, but after a long ten months, he finally asked Vera to move her things into his apartment. It was a big step for the old man, reminding himself that Vera was strong and could fend for herself. No matter what was thrown at her. Her biotics were as strong as an Asari commando, only made worse by the anger she carried so gracefully.

She was still unpacking boxes when he got back from going to the market- they had been… distracted from moving her in fully, but she was almost done.

“Welcome back, hon.” She greeted when he closed the door, and he grunted in response.

“I bought noodles for you.”

“Oh my God. I’m so in love with you!” She exclaimed, letting the shirt she was holding drop into an unfolded pile on the ground and making her way into the kitchen where he had deposited the bags. “And they’re my favorite flavor? Wow, you love me too.”

“As if I haven’t already said that.” He answered, and she nudged him.

“I could go with hearing it again, and again.”

He grunted, but she noticed the way his mandibles clicked against his face in amusement.

"Yes, Vera, I love you too. Satisfied?"

She rolled her eyes, her expression one of mock annoyance.

"You don't have to act like it's so hard to say it."

"Humans don't-"

"Have a good track record when you love them? I'm aware. However," she quirked a brow as she placed a hand over one mandible, gently guiding his face to look at her. "I've got someone worth killing for right in front of me. I'd like to see some asshole try to tear me away from you."

He looked down at her, adoration swirling in his golden eyes, and nodded.

"I wouldn't let them anyways."

After that, they'd spent the rest of the day finally settling all of her things into what was now their apartment. Truth be told, he had a lot of space, and even with all of her clothes and trinkets, there was still room for more. Things we'll buy together, she had said, to which he grunted again. Once everything was settled, they were sat on the couch, watching a vid on the holoscreen he had in the living room. Some cheesy horror flick that both of them just laughed at.

After all, between the two of them, they'd seen quite the horror story.

He had an arm wrapped around her waist, blunted talons ghosting over the skin that was exposed when her shirt rode up just a little. Her head was resting against his carapace, and she could hear the quiet yet affectionate grumbling in his chest, a sound she'd become quite acquainted with. It was comfortable. It was… them.

Through all the hell they'd been through, he was still by her side, and she was by his. The galaxy had tried to strike them both down, yet they persevered. And maybe… maybe they did so just to sit where they were, in each other's company, with the life they both desired set out in front of them. Together.

Notes:

If you've gotten this far- thank you. Story writing was never my forte. I mostly stuck to text based roleplaying on a similar scale- detailed, with backstories, etc. But taking my knowledge of that and putting it into a story was a challenge.

For those that have been around since the beginning, I apologize for the long pause between updating. Losing the document that had this all in it was incredibly demoralizing but I finally got my ass in gear.

Looking back over this, there are a lot of things I'd like to redo. But for now, it'll suffice. Maybe a rewrite of it in the future.

All of that said, thank you one more time for reading. Hopefully I'll dive more into mass effect storywriting- though likely more as oneshots.

Goodbye for now! <3
