Title is from the song Neptune by Sleeping At Last! (Absolute banger that everyone should listen to at least three times while reading this)

Hello hello! Another non DSMP fic, I know I know, it’s mind boggling really. Moving away from that, I had so much fucking fun writing this omg, even if it took me three weeks or more to finish it (I was so close to entirely giving it up but I pushed through) I’m sooo happy with how it turned out! I hope you all are too :)

That’s all from me for now, I’ll go off more in the ends notes! I do hope you all enjoy :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It’s a peaceful rainy afternoon when Luz and Amity decide to cuddle up together with the softest blanket they could find and watch a movie together.

Amity loves the moments they have like this. Luz frequently brushing her hands through her hair and untangling the knots she comes across nicely. Amity only presses closer as soon as the movie ends, expecting Luz to move but she only switches to another.

Before the new movie intro could event start-

A knock at the front door interrupts them. Luz and Amity spare a look at each other, both their eyes clearly asking if either of them were expecting people.

Luz is the first one to leave the couch as she pauses the movie and staggers over to the door while Amity remains where she is and watches closely from behind the head of the couch, mentally preparing herself for anything that might happen.

Luz’s footsteps finally come to a stop and she grabs at the door handle, Amity holds her breath and tries to rid the burning urge to shut her eyes and hide. Luz finally swings it open and makes a noise of surprise.

“Oh, hi Amity’s dad!” Luz greets enthusiastically.

Amity just stares blankly. Refusing to let her breath go.

“Hello Luz, good to see you.” He greets back with a softer smile on his face as his eyes scan past her and around the room as Luz lets him in and shuts the door from behind.

“And you don’t have to keep calling me Amity’s dad, just call me Alador.”

“Oh,” Luz gasps incredulously, “Are you sure?”

The man simply nods while not even looking at her. Luz on the other hand beams behind him and her eyes clearly begin to start searching for Amity. Once they meet, Luz shoots Amity a massive grin with two thumbs raised up happily while mouthing, “𝘐'𝘮 𝘪𝘯! 𝘏𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦!"

Amity simply nods with a tight smile. She lets a long breath out through her nose.

Luz turns to the man and taps on his shoulder to gain his attention, “Is there anything you need Mr Alador?”

For a moment, Alador just stares at Luz with the fondest look on his face before chuckling at the title, “Uh, I was actually look for Mittens- sorry, Amity.”

“Aww, she’s in the living room, come with me!” Luz offers gladly as she skips past and towards where Amity is. Alador patiently follows behind.

Amity squeaks loudly before launching herself down onto the couch and throwing the blankets over her whole body and head. She had to somehow mentally prepare herself for whatever her father needed from her this time.

Was there an issue back at home? No there couldn’t be since Lilith would warn her in advance. Maybe he needed help on a project he was working on? That one makes much more sense than the first guess-

“Amity?”

The girl yelps, trying to yank the cover off her head before helplessly failing. The blanket catches on her leg and brings her tumbling to the ground in a bundled mess.

On the other hand, Luz bursts out in wild and uncontrolled laughter while Alador just stands there and covers his mouth, clearly stifling a laugh.

Amity runs blood red across her face as she finally manages to make peace with the blanket and sets it aside her. She bites the inside of her cheek as she stands up abruptly and smacks Luz on the shoulder.

But the girl doesn’t stop laughing after a full minute in which Alador is clearly struggling to hold back his own noises. Amity hates this so much.

Luz finally finishes up with a wipe at her eyes but her stupid smile remains, “Sorry, you’re just so silly Amity.”

“Stop it.” Amity grunt, clearly embarrassed.

Alador wipes off the smile from his face as he makes a noise from his throat. Luz immediately straightens up and Amity’s hand automatically reaches for hers. Luz closes the space between them and interlaces their fingers together before squeezing slightly. Something they’ve grown accustom to ever since the fixing of the Boiling Aisles.

“Uhm,” Alador scratches the back of his head nervously before his eyes soften the moment they meet Amity’s, “Hello Mittens.”

And even after so long of not seeing him, Amity’s heart still falls out of her chest as she lets go of Luz’s hand. And just like clockwork, Alador spreads his arms out for Amity to fall into.

Just like it was always supposed to be before everything.

She presses her face deep into his chest and the two just squeeze each other for a moment. Amity often gets lost in the feeling of fatherly love since she had basically grown up without it. And it seemed like her dad felt the same.

Her father finally lets go and Amity steps back into her place next to Luz and as soon as she reaches out a hand, Luz is already there to hold her. She loves it that way.

“Is there anything you need father?” She asks, the robotic tone falling away slightly.

Then, his smile disappears again and a more anxious look replaces it. It’s a small enough shift that anyone could easily miss it, but not Amity. Not after almost losing everything and being isolated from love like she was supposed to as a child. (Therapy with Camila forever changed her.)

“Uh no,” he coughs out and Amity feels pained, “I just needed to tell you the news.”

“News?” Luz questions from her side.

“No disrespect to you at all Luz, can I speak to Amity privately?”

A soft burn ignites behind Amity’s ribcage, “No you cannot. Anything you share with me can be shared with my girlfriend.”

Luz tugs on her hand and leans closer to Amity’s ear to whisper, “Are you sure? I can leave if you really want me to since it might not even involve me-“

Amity simply shakes her head before turning to Luz and smiling, “No it’s okay, I’m fine with sharing matters with you.”

Luz stares at her with a lovesick expression swirling inside of her honey brown eyes and it makes Amity’s heart ache with such an impossibly palpable joy.

Luz sharply nods and the two turn back to the nervous adult who is now pulling at a hangnail. Amity winces when blood starts to trickle from the bottom. He really needs to stop that habit.

“What’s the news?”

Alador stares at the two with a very sour expression on his face, but then his eyes travel down to Amity’s and it’s the most excruciating silence she’s ever had to face yet.

“Your mother and I are getting divorced.”

Amity blinks slowly. The words not fully registering as quickly as they usually would.

𝘋𝘪𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘥.

“You and mom?” Amity asks, very dumbly so. Of course it’s him and mother. Should Amity even call her that? (Not after the crap she put her and her siblings through.)

Alador takes a step forward and reaches out his hand, Amity flinches- very violently so. Luz steps in to shield her. Amity’s throat locks up and tears start to bleed in her eyes as something from her chest shifts.

“No disrespect to you either 𝘈𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳, but I think Amity needs some time to process this.” Luz bites back and Amity feels very proud and happy that she’s standing up for her, helping her.

It’s nice.

“I-“ Alador stutters, seemingly shocked by Luz’s immediately spit back but also too painfully tired to try and entirely digest it himself, “Okay. You know where to find me if you need anything.”

Luz nods once and the man quickly says his goodbyes before leaving.

That was horribly anticlimactic. Why did Amity react like that? Wasn’t this a good thing? She could finally let go of the title of being the daughter of Odalia Blight and be her own person. Sure she’s been her own person for the past year but…It’s finally official this time.

It’s set in stone, legally so.

But- why does it hurt?

“Amity?” Luz calls out gently, “Are you okay?”

Amity keeps blinking like she’s trying to convince herself that this is some sort of sick lucid dream that she could force herself to wake up from. It isn’t working. And the more she blinks, the more the realisation sinks in further like a whole brand new wound ripping itself open.

𝘋𝘪𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘥. 𝘚𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥.

They were separating in legal and familial terms.

Amity slowly turns to Luz and the second that their eyes meet, Amity feels something break inside of her as Luz’s eyes completely soften. Not in the lovesick way or the fond way like she usually does.

No, the message behind Luz’s eyes meant something more than her usual “𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶," it meant something deeper, something- solemn. Something horrifyingly raw.

“I’m so sorry mi amor,” Luz finally says with that trembling voice and Amity can’t fight against the flood that instantly overcomes her.

Amity sways dangerously as the tears roll down her cheeks. Luz only stares at her with wide afraid eyes and lips slightly parted, like she wants to say something but isn’t very sure of what. Amity understands- there’s not many words that can be used to lighten the blow of the news.

𝘚𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥. 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳. 𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦- 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦- 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯.

Something behind Amity’s chest cracks and fractures continuously and spits out daggers of icy aches all throughout her system. Through her veins and bloodstream, behind her ribcage where her heart and lungs were- everything just entirely 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯.

The agony comes in fast unbearable waves. The thoughts of her future, present and past hit her all at once.

So it’s over. Just like that.

Luz takes a few careful steps towards Amity like as if one movement would set her off. And Amity gets it- she really does but it still stings when her girlfriend does it.

Amity makes a guttural noise and her knees completely fall away from under her. She drops onto the floor and cries out when a blinding hot pain snaps through where her knees made contact with the hard ground.

Luz immediately rushes forward and doesn’t bother to be careful anymore. There’s pushing and there’s her own tears falling from her cheeks onto Amity’s hands. The whole thing is an entire emotional mess and Amity doesn’t know why it’s being put onto Luz.

Luz presses closer and snakes her arms around Amity’s waist, reeling her in and pecking soft kisses on her cheeks and her forehead. Amity cries harder, dipping down and squeezing her arms around where Luz held her tight, cutting off all her access to breathe. They both hold each other impossibly close, begging to be let a little closer even beyond the boundaries of their own physical bodies.

Amity’s head begins to spin with assumptions. Does this mean she won’t be a Blight anymore? Will Odalia take away the surname and leave her with nothing but remainder of what once was? She can’t have that happen. She can’t change her last name- although it holds bad memories behind it, she couldn’t change it. What if Odalia decides to take her siblings in for custody and her dad agrees? She can’t lose her siblings.

An ugly wail rips from her throat as she digs her face deeper into Luz’s shirt. Her hot bubbles of tears and snot staining the fabric and rubbing against her own skin. The pain inside of her chest feels unbearable, it was like somebody had reached their own bare hands and dug through her chest to take apart and destroy everything inside of her.

All she knew, all of her life was changed just by one sentence, seven words.

"𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘥."

Amity is woken up to the sound of talking, laughter and overwhelming warmth all around her.

She gets up- very slowly. She brings a lazy hand to wipe away at the gunk in her eyes. The lights seems to have been dimmed down to a softer yellow so Amity is entirely grateful to be not be greeted with blinding light.

“Oh,” somebody makes a noise from somewhere, “Luz! Amity is up!”

Before Amity can get a word in, heavy arms are pushing her back down and shushing her back to sleep, Amity isn’t interested in going back to sleep right now. She needs to find Luz—

“Woah mi hija, you can relax,” someone else says, and Amity swears that she can recognise the voice but she just can’t put her finger on it, “Luz is on her way.”

Amity starts to flutter her arms around wildly, gesturing to whoever was pushing her down to immediately stop before she’d have to use actual force (her gut begs her not to, so she doesn’t.)

“Ah, okay okay- stop flailing goodness—“

“Ami!” Another voice shrieks from afar. Amity immediately snaps her head in their direction and her heart is already running to it before she is.

Amity chucks whatever is on her lap to the side and throws herself up. She starts sprinting- even in her sleepy state, her whole entire body yearns for Luz’s touch. And Luz is always there to catch her midway before picking her up and spinning her around. Whimsical bubbles of laughter pop inside of her throat and two large grins split both the girls’ faces.

“What’s going on? Are you okay?” Luz asks, pulling away to inspect her face and arms. Amity just does a small smile as she stares. Wanting to drown in the lovely sensation of Luz’s stressing over her for nothing.

“I’m perfect Luz, I promise.” She says calmly, running a hand across her cheek.

“Oh okay, good!” Luz grins before spinning Amity around to face everyone else, “Sorry for not telling you that they were going to come over.”

Amity takes a deep breath in through her nose as her eyes connect with several others. Willow and Hunter, Eda and Camila, Gus and Vee… All the people who seemed to care for her just as much as Luz cared.

“It’s fine,” she whispers to herself, a fragile smile sneaking it’s way onto her face as Willow and Camila get up and offer hugs to her.

Then soon enough, everyone is getting up and bundling all around her. As confusing as it was to be bombarded like this on a random evening, Amity can’t complain about a good group hug from all her favourite people after receiving the most confusingly devastating news of her life.

Everyone finally moves away and Amity feels like she’s on on cloud nine as she looks over her friends- her family with a smile on her face as they all clutter back into normal banter with one another. Luz on the other hand stays by her side and takes her hand- as expected— she brings it up to her lips and presses a soft kiss on it. Amity’s pulse quickens.

Amity then wraps her own hand around Luz’s and pulls her out of the room to the kitchen. Luz follows along with no questions.

Amity scratches the back of her head nervously, “Did you…tell them?”

Luz blinks, looking confused for a moment before Amity brings up her hand and points at her ring finger. Luz then makes a loud noise of realisation before her eyes go crazy wide as she shakes her head from side to side furiously, “What no! I would never give away your personal information like that Ami!”

Amity moves her hand from her head to her chest as her heart pitter patters softly, “Oh. I just thought that since everyone is here means that they know-“

Luz stops her abruptly by grabbing both of her hands and holding them to her face, Amity feels overwhelmingly warm as Luz glares at her, “Ami, they chose to come over since they heard about Alador coming here.”

Now it’s Amity’s turn to blink, confused, “Oh. Oh I didn’t…think of it that way.”

Luz huffs, leaning into the touch, “Me neither, my mum did call earlier while you were sleeping but I didn’t wanna wake you up. Should’ve warned you in advance now that I think it over.”

Amity rolls her eyes as she leans in closer and presses their noses together, “It’s okay, I like it when they’re here.”

Luz pecks a kiss on her nose and Amity flushes, “I’m glad you do, but are you going to tell them?”

Amity simply nods, not bothering to entirely understand the weight of the question, “Yes, I will.”

“Okay, you don’t have to by the way, you already know that.”

“I do.”

“Am I inclined to wear this?” Amity asks with a grim look on her face.

Camila and Luz only respond with wide grins as the rest of the crew just blankly stare at the mess they are forced to wear. The face she most relates to is Hunter’s. His disgusted frown sums up everything they’re feeling as of right now.

Luz starts to do poses to show off the fit as if it were good enough to convince them. And it is not working at all- Amity is sickened by this. She brings up the pyjamas to fully view to somewhat give it chance.

Yeah no, it’s not working. Not even from any angle does it convince her—

She put it on. Everyone did too.

It’s Camila and Luz, the sweetest humans in their lives, how could they not? How could Amity refuse those begging demonic puppy eyes? She can’t! It’s badly unfortunate.

“You look so good mi amor!” Luz squeals, picking her up and spinning her round and round with the biggest smile wrapped on her face. Amity can’t even bare to feel upset. Luz and Camila looked so happy and adorable.

So she lets them have this just this once.

They spend the whole two hours together. Camila and Willow prepare them food while Vee and Luz fight over a movie to watch before Gus steals the remote from them both and chooses a movie that Amity surprisingly likes a lot more than the options the other two had. No offence to Luz nor Vee whatsoever but having to choose between Frozen and the whole Smurfs trilogy was not something that Amity was going to enjoy. It seemed like everyone was on board with Gus wanting to watch Spiderman.

Really odd superhero name but Amity liked most of the characters so it didn’t matter much in the end.

After everyone had finally finished up the food and the movies, Willow shooed everyone to bed with ease as it seemed like everyone was already tired enough. They all chose to sleep in Luz’s room for the night since she had a two sets of bunk beds for whatever reason Amity wasn’t very sure of but not too interested to find out why.

She waved everyone goodnight and decided to go help Hunter and Camila clean up the place. Before she could leave the room, Luz pressed a big kiss on her cheek before following behind Willow and a passed out Gus. More steps away and they’re gone.

Amity nods sharply before spinning on her heel and off to help.

“Hey,” Amity calls out behind Hunter, “You need help?”

Hunter looks over his shoulder with a tired smile on his face, “Yeah, that would be nice.”

“Of course! What can I do?”

Camila briskly walks out of the kitchen to collect the rest of the dishes that Amity instantly scoops enthusiastically, “Need some help?”

Camila dramatically sighs through her mouth and grins, “You’re both angels!”

The next few moments are nicely quiet, save for Luz’s muffled loud snoring.

Amity wipes down the last dirt from the coffee table in the living room and the counters in the kitchen while Hunter sweeps away the dropped bits of food and pieces of jewellery that Luz had dropped months ago and forgot to search for. Camila was on dish duty but of course Hunter and Amity suggested to help.

Camila clasps her hands together, “Okay that’s everything!”

Hunter and Amity spare a look of pride at one another before turning back to Camila with brights smiles on their faces.

“Thank you both for helping me, it means a lot.” Camila says with soft and gentle eyes. They’re so similar to Luz’s…

“It’s not a problem at all Miss Noceda.” Hunter responds tiredly. Amity doesn’t miss they his moves his arms lazily and the way he blinks, sluggish.

Amity leans close and bumps him with her shoulder, a signal. Hunter just stares at her before resting his head on top of her head. Not what she was going for but it’s whatever.

“I told you to call me Camila, Hunter!” Camila laughs, covering her mouth.

Amity huffs through her nose when Hunter stiffens at her side. She brings up a hand to pat down on his head to somewhat calm him down since she remembers seeing Gus and Willow pat him to sleep once quite a while ago.

“Sorry, Camila-“ he pauses, his body falling slightly limp against Amity’s side, “I keep forgetting,” he nervously laughs.

Camila laughs a bit before falling quiet. It isn’t tense whatsoever, in fact this is a first a while that silence is actually quite enjoyable for Amity. She intently listened to Hunter’s smooth breaths rumbling through her system.

Camila shuffles closer and takes Amity’s hands in her own. Amity isn’t one for physical touch without permission but she always feels comfortable with Camila so she didn’t bother to mention it.

“What’s up?” Amity tries to tilt her head to the side but then remembers a sleeping Hunter on top so she remains still.

Camila looks up, assuringly at Hunter then back down at Amity and her smile is blinding, “You two get along well?”

Amity blinks, surprised by the question, “Oh uh-“ she shrugs, “I suppose.”

Camila nods, “You two remind me of Vee and Luz.”

“How so?” Amity asks, lacing a hand over Hunter’s waist and gesturing over to the sofa for them to sit. Camila follows behind as Amity rushes out of the kitchen to the living room, Hunter doesn’t make any moves when they get there and he doesn’t move even when Amity hands him over to Camila for a bit to sit herself down comfortably.

She allows Camila to set the boy next to her and Amity lets him rest his head on her lap. This is the most comfortable Amity’s seen Hunter sleep in a while. It makes her happy.

Camila shrugs, “You’re a bit like siblings.”

Amity scrunches her nose, absentmindedly brushing her hands through her strands, “We are?”

“Yeah, you’re the big sister and he’s the little one! Don’t you see it too?”

Amity blinks, taking her suggestion into consideration before looking back down at Hunter and staring at how peaceful he looks then focusing on the warmth wrapping around her chest.

There’s a smile pulling at the ends of her lips when she finally looks away, “I guess we sort of are.”

Camila scoots closer and allows Amity to lay her head on her shoulder. The three just sit there in peaceful silence. She likes that nobody has to force in a conversation to get the attention moving or anything of the sort. They just sit, happy to be in each other’s company.

Just as Amity allows her eyes to fly shut, Camila perks up,

“I don’t mean to budge into your personal life,”

Amity shifts slightly so her eyes are facing Camila’s. But she doesn’t look at her. It somewhat scares Amity so she pushes herself off Camila’s shoulder and goes back to distracting herself by pushing her fingers through Hunter’s hair.

“What’s up?”

“Can I ask you something? It’s a bit personal so you aren’t inclined to answering,” Amity doesn’t miss the way her hands shiver before she hides them between her legs.

Amity’s breath paces as her throat runs completely dry, but she forces herself to speak, “Yes, you may ask.”

Camila’s shoulders hunch up to her ears and fall back down before she finally turns to Amity with those same worried eyes as Luz’s from earlier.
The look terrifies her.

“Why was Alador here?”

Her heart pelts in her throat at the question. Her mouth is left open but the words have left her completely. Her eyes refuse to meet with Camila’s and she suddenly feels like both crying out her soul and crushing her bones to dust.

“I-“ she stutters, failing to think of a way to form a proper sentence to explain. Camila’s eyes scrunch up in the sad way and Amity wish she wasn’t so professionally articulate with her words. She wishes she could explain it in a baby manner so that it didn’t hurt as much. So that she could use words like ‘sore’ instead of ‘excruciating’.

She gulps- turning away from Camila, “It’s stupid so it doesn’t matter at all.”

Camila makes a pained nose from her throat and it stings Amity somewhere in her chest.

“Nothing is stupid enough to not matter,” Camila says softly.

Amity can’t take this—

“I don’t want to force anything out, I just wanted to tell you that anything he told you isn’t your fault.”

How can she always guess things right all the time and say the right things about it-

“And none of us blame you for whatever he told-.”

“Do you know?” Amity cuts her off abruptly. Her tone gone cold.

Camila makes a noise, “I uh- I’ve heard rumours.”

Amity sighs out all the air hiding inside of her lungs and lets her head hang, “Oh. From who?”

Camila shifts her hand close but Amity can’t even look at it, “…Your mother.”

Amity bites her lip hard enough to convince herself not to start crying, “What did she say?”

Camila keeps her hand there, “That- that the Blight title is only hers now.”

That 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘥. Titans, Amity just wishes that she could be angry- furious with her right now. She wishes she could go beyond saviour and strut down to the Boiling Aisles to teach her a good lesson that she’ll have to remember for the rest of her life.

But she can’t. Her heart bleeds out entirely and forces out the tears from her eyes. Her throat bobbles uncomfortably as the burning sensation in the back picks up beyond her strength.

She removes her hands from Hunter’s soft hair and wipes away at the burning hot bubbles of tears that tumble down her face. Titans she hates crying— she hates feeling so useless just because there’s water exiting her eyes!

But it’s so excruciating. She can’t lose everything but she was and it just— she just wish she had the words to describe the pain hollowing her system through and through. Her heart shatters repeatedly, her eyes flood out against her will and Camila is just sitting there— staring and waiting for a signal. Amity needs to learn to deal with things like this alone. She’s supposed to face this alone, it shouldn’t be anyone else’s concern—

“Do you want a hug?”

And the waterworks finally break loose as she nods, her whole entire body trembles with the action but she doesn’t want to wake Hunter so she doesn’t throw her arms over Camila until she leans in close.

Camila picks Hunter up and pulls him to her side, the boy groggily wakes and Amity wishes that she could melt into the couch and never come out again. She can’t let him see her like this- she can’t let her only pseudo little brother see her like this.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry mi hija.” Camila speaks softly, her own voice shivers.

Amity digs her face deep into Camila’s shoulder and cries out loudly, not bothering to give a damn about everyone sleeping. The flood inside of her chest comes in waves and knocks her down, over and 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯. She’s grown sick and tired of shoving the dread. She’s not strong and she isn’t Odalia’s daughter anymore.

And she’s fine with that! Or, she’s supposed to be fine with it but she’s not because Odalia is going to take back her surname and she’s going to take everything from her all over again. She’s going to go back to being lonely again even with the fake people surrounding her all over again.

She’s going to go back to being a doll because she can never get away from the person who gave her life and a title to live by.

“I don’t-“ she sniffles loudly, “I’m so scared Camila.”.

And she’s sick of all the contradictions that spin behind the walls of her skull. She’s sick of being a doll- she’s sick of everything but she can’t do anything about it—

“I know, it’s a scary thing,” Camila says, “But we’re all here for you. I’m here for you if you ever need me.”

Amity hiccups, choking on the tears that flood her entire face, “I don’t want to- I can’t lose everything again-“

“You’re not going to lose everything. Not on my watch.” Camila chides sternly. Her arms press tight and Amity can barely breathe but she can’t dare pull away. She’s needed this for so long.

“I’m sorry-“

“Don’t apologise.” Camila snaps, pulling Amity away and glaring into her eyes, “I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying if you need me to, none of this is your fault and it has never been.”

Amity let the words sink in like a knife sliding between the cracks of her lungs and puncturing them. She gasps, falling back onto her chest and sobbing out like a baby. Camila doesn’t say anything about it and Amity couldn’t be more grateful.

She wishes— she wishes Camila was her mother in the first place. She wishes she had a mother figure to take care of her like how Camila does. She wishes she had friends like these that care about her like the crew does.

She wishes she could’ve grown up differently but she didn’t.

And it 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯'𝘵 and still 𝘪𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘶𝘭𝘵. It’s a realisation that blinds and cuts her open without any mercy.

It’s a realisation that she needed to find. And Camila helped her. Hunter helped her. Everyone helped her without a care for the judgement in the world.

It’s a realisation she needed to find to find herself. And that, simply breaks her apart.

And her friends- her family are there to build her back up.
