Chapter Text

After a long night of training, the last thing any of the turtles wanted to do was leave bed

But they needed groceries, So Mikey got up and left to the store with Splinter.

Now having a working stove, he wanted to cook all the time. Splinter now trusted him alone with the stove and cooking and Donnie made sure he knew what to do if the stove breaks.

Once done in the store, they walked past a booth. It caught his attention from the loud yelling ladies by it. He grew curious of it and walked over.

Splinter saw his son move away from him and followed. “Michelangelo don’t wonder off” he told him “OH! Sorry papa” he said but heard what the ladies were yelling about.

“Soup Kitchen! Help those who are in need!” one yelled. He remembers the poster from the other day. He lit up “Papa! Can we go!” he asked excited. Splinter stroked his bear and walked over to the young woman.

“Hello! Would you like to volunteer?” the one sitting down asked. “I believe my son would like to, but I will be coming with” Splinter said.

She smiled down at him “Hello, I’m Tira, what’s yours?” she asked. “I’m Michelangelo!” he grinned. “What a big name” she smiled “you want to volunteer for the soup kitchen?”

Mikey nodded leaning between his feet “Yes! I saw a poster the other day and I was sad that some people don’t get food!” he cried.

“It is very sad, how can you help?” she asked, not in an unkind way. “I can cook! I’ve been cooking with my chichi forever!” he said proudly. Splinter nodded proudly as well “It is true, I have recently trusted Angelo with the stove back at home” he said.

“That’s a big step” Tira smiled “If you volunteer your time, to help prepare the meals at the kitchen we will be happy to have you help” she said.

“Can I Papa?! Can I?!”

Splinter chuckled and patted Mikey’s hair “Yes Michelangelo, we can”

Mikey rocked on his heels of his feet. Tira gave them the address of the kitchen and the day they were to prepare and serve.

Mikey rushed home with Splinter to tell his brothers.

He found Leo practicing his katas with Raph watching and Donnie reading.

“Guys guys!” he rushed over, falling onto Raph’s lap. Raph grunted “Mikey!” he adjusted so it wasn’t uncomfortable.

Splinter went to the kitchen. “Something very exciting happened while we were at the shops!” he smiled.

“Oh? Not like those spirts that lead you to a wonderland?” Raph asked rubbing his shell. “Hey, that really did happen” Mikey defended “but no, we met some cool lady’s that help feed people!” he gushed.

“Is that about the poster you saw?” Leo asked finishing his practise. “Yup, me and chichi are going there this weekend to help cook some food!” he said excitedly, jumping off Raph, doing a little dance. “You guys should join!”

“Cook for others?” Raph asked confused. “Yeah! Apparently, some people don’t get food, or home! IT’s sad! I’m going to help!” he said proudly. Leo patted his head “I’ll join, anything to help someone” he said.

Donnie looked up from his book “I guess I can some and help…”

“Sure” Raph shrugged. Mikey grinned.

The next day they all went out, all disguised and went to the kitchen. “Woah, who are all of you?” a teen at the door answered. “I am Mikey!” Mikey waved.

“We are volunteering, these are my sons” Splinter answered. “Oh great, always nice to have more people” the teen smiled “I’m Zasa” he introduced. Mikey ran to the kitchen, his brothers hot on his heels. “This is so cool!” he smiled. “Mikey” Tira smiled at him “Are these your brothers?”

“Yup! Leo, Don and Raph!” he pointed at them, and they waved back. “Nice to meet you boys and thank you for helping out” she said.

“We can get started to help out” Splinter came over “Right, let’s divide the work so we can make a delicious lunch for everyone!”

Everyone cheered and she gave out tasks for everyone to do. Splinter helped with the stoves while Raph and Mikey cleaned and chopped ingredients, Leo and Donnie got plates and the serving area set up.

Mikey ask many questions about the food they were serving and preparing, and many more about the people volunteering.

He loved the attention he was getting from them.

Tira watched everyone work in the kitchen and smiles at the Hamato’s.

Yoshi, though his sons call him Splinter, was an excellent cook.

Michelangelo was all the drama; he watched the rice cook and moves faster than anyone making rice should move be.

Leonardo was cutting vegetables fast then Zasa could wash and give to their other volunteer Rohi.

And while Donatello and Raphael bantered, they clean the serving area in record time they had enough time to clean the plates.

She was very happy at the fast pace they were going at, and how much food they had prepared. The thing about volunteers they always have better or more ways to make more food with less.

Yoshi never said it, but she could get the hints that he and his boys don’t come from a great background, probably having to scavenge at one point, especially with how passion his sons were with feeding others.

She hoped they had a stable food source now.

As they started serving, Mikey shouting and cheering, making the room brighter than any other day, she hoped they’d come back to help.

Most volunteers only stay a week or maybe a mouth. Mikey won everyone’s heart with his positivity and jokes.

After everything was served and clean up was issued, Tira saw them out “You can volunteer any time” she said. Mikey flapped his hands “I will defiantly be here more often!” he grinned.

Splinter tapped his shoulder “As long as one of your brothers or I come with” he said.

Mikey nodded excitedly. Looking at their faces, she knew the older brother would be coming more often than the other two.

No offense to the middle kids, but she could see they had their own hobbies, mostly Donatello.

She waves them away and looks forward to their return.
