Chapter Text
Wiatt's Song
It was a sunny April day at a local park as everyone enjoying the Spring weather especially two boys that were at the outskirts of the park.
"Come on, Lewis!" Wiatt gestured his boyfriend over. " You always love taking pictures with me."
"Wiatt, that's a video." Lewis chuckled at Wiatt's blunder.
"Oh, oops!" Wiatt laughed at his mistake. "I guess I pressed the wrong button!"
As Wiatt went to fix the camera a sad expressing fell on Lewis's face.
"Wiatt, I can't keep doing this." Lewis sadly sighed.
"What are you talking about, man?" Wiatt said putting the camera down. "Can I just take an actual photo?"
"No, I mean- Wiatt, I can't keep going out on these dates with you." Lewis admitted.
"What?" Wiatt couldn't believe what he just heard. "But, you love when we hang out. You were excited when we started-"
"I know." Lewis interrupted. " Things have changed. My friends and I will be moving to another city when we graduate high school next month. One very far away from this town. You know I'm not good with phones, I'm good with robots. I wouldn't be able to keep in touch and that's not fair to you."
"Fine. I guess I'm coming with you." Wiatt said.
"Wiatt, no." Lewis said sternly.
"What do I have here?" Wiatt questioned fighting back tears. " My dead Grandpa's weird mansion, his abandoned arcade, you're all I have left Lewis! I don't want to lose you!"
Lewis was stunned silent. He knew Wiatt's dad was slowly losing business in the arcade due to lack of visitors and Wiatt had a small friend group even before his transition.
"Besides I don't trust, Sara." Wiatt admitted. "Oliver's fine, but she gives me a bad vibe!
"Darling, I'm not putting my life on hold because of a bad vibe." Lewis said.
"I know, I know. Just text me. Text me every week at least once, don't ask me why just do it. And if you ever stop texting me back, know that I'm driving over to come find you."
"I guess this is it then." Lewis sadly admitted.
"I guess so." Wiatt agreed.
"Wiatt, you're still recording." Lewis pointed out.
"Oh fuck, you're right!" Wiatt cried out in embarrassment as he turned off the camera.
*CAMERA CLICK OFF*
The two never took any photos as they headed inside Lewis's car to drop Wiatt off home. The car ride was silent with Wiatt looking out the window and Lewis's eyes on the road until they reached the Nicolson mansion.
"Well, here we are." Lewis announced.
"Thanks for the ride." Wiatt thanked his now ex-boyfriend. " I'll see you at the graduation party."
"I'd like that." Lewis gave Wiatt a sad smile before waving goodbye and driving off.
Wiatt watched as Lewis drove off before running inside the mansion.
*SLAM*
Wiatt slammed the front door as his footsteps stomped throughout the house until he reached the staircase.
" Wiatt, is that you? " Wiatt heard his father's voice.
Wiatt was halfway up the stairs as he turned around to face his father. Shoulders slumped, body shaking, and tears running down his face, poor dude looked like a kicked puppy that was thrown overboard.
"Wiatt?" Owen gasped. " What happened?"
"LEWIS BROKE UP WITH ME, SUNNY!" Wiatt cried out.
"What?" Owen gasped.
" He said after he graduates next month that Sara, Oliver, and him were moving to another city far away from here and he said he'd stay in touch and that we'd still be friends- it's just -it's just -" Wiatt couldn't hold back his tears as he sobbed and ran to his room.
"Oh God." Owen said silently.
An Hour Later
Wiatt was asleeo under the covers of his bed he managed to cry himself to sleep after the break-up with Lewis. Two years of dating, two years of sharing, two years of love- gone!
"Fire. Everything is on fire. The cave started the fire." Wiatt mumbled in his sleep.
In his dream there was a forest that caught on fire, then he was in a building and an earthquake attacked and crushed many victims under the fallen rubble, then the last thing he saw was robotic creatures with glowing red eyes reaching out screaming for HELP!!!
*CRASH*
Wiatt fell off the bed and hard.
"WIATT?"
*KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK*
"WIATT?"
*KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK*
"WIATT?"
Owen opened the door and wrapped his arms around his son in a warm embrace. "Wiatt, are you okay, please say something?!"
Wiatt looked up with tears in his eyes. "Dad?"
"it's okay, Wiatt." Own gently reassured his son. " I know breakups are tough. But I promise everything will be okay. Lewis wasn't being a jerk when he broke up with you and still wanted to remain friends. So that's a good thing, right?"
"It still hurts." Wiatt cried into his dad's chest.
" I know." Owen wrapped his arms tighter around Wiatt.
The two stayed that way for awhile as Owen held Wiatt tight in his arms.
"I'm right here Wiatt." Owen said softly. " I'm not going anywhere and you will be okay."
Wiatt told his father everything about his dream which worried Owen, Owen chalked it up to him and Lewis breaking up, but for safety Owen restocked Wiatt's medicine the doctor prescribed for his nightmares like him and his mother before him.
Later
The school year went by like a breeze. Homework, classes, parties, hanging out with friends, working at the arcade with his dad, the usual.
Yet it still hurt that Lewis wasn't with him, Wiatt called and texted when he could but Lewis calling and texting back was far and few.
Graduation came and Wiatt and Owen were going over where he should go next and classes.
"Are you sure you have to go?"
"I won't be gone long, Wiatt." Owen reassured his son.
" I just don't get why you have to go now and so late?" Wiatt questioned.
It was true it was late, most (sane) people would be in their beds, but not Owen he needed to go to a cave in the middle of the night.
" I'll be back in the morning, I promise." Owen cupped Wiatt's cheeks, kissed his forehead, and hugged him. " I love you, kiddo."
"Love you too, dad." Wiatt said as he hugged his dad back.
Owen never came back.
I sense there's something in the wind
That feels like tragedy's at hand
And though I'd like to stand by him
Can't shake this feeling that I have
Nickel-Per-Pay
Despite the bight lights and flashing games the tone was sad.
Many friends, workers, and family members were at Nickel-Per-Pay for the repast, the funeral was short, but the feelings were heavy.
At the entrance was a framed photo of Owen and Wiatt the day Wiatt graduated from high school a recent photo of the two happy.
Many gave Wiatt their condolences and said if he ever needed anything they would be there- but Wiatt didn't want their help he wanted Lewis and his father.
Wiatt went to the office to hide away from the others for awhile. He hid under his father's desk and pulled out his phone.
"H-hi Lewis." Wiatt's voice hoarse and cracking from all the crying. " I wanted to tell you my dad's funeral was today."
" I just can't believe he's gone and the way he died -*hic*-I don't know what to do!" Wiatt broke down in tears.
Wiatt paused for a second hoping Lewis would pick up.
"Please, call back. *HIC* We'll talk later." Wiatt choked out before he hung up.
What the hell was he doing? He was just at his father's funeral and now he was calling his ex-boyfriend? How pathetic was that?
Wiatt wiped his tears and went back before the others noticed he was missing.
Later
Wiatt was asleep in his father's bed swaddled in the covers that still held Owen's scent giving Wiatt the false illusion that his father was still here.
More nightmares came of a humanoid pegasus attacking people with blood on its hands and hoofs, a giant spider that had a million plus ghost inside it, and a ghost child who Wiatt recognized -
"Allison!"
Wiatt woke up in a cold sweat and rushed to the bathroom to splash water on his face.
"Why-why tonight of all nights?" Wiatt questioned as he dried his face. " I haven't thought of Allison in years and what was with that giant spider and my little murder pony?"
Wiatt picked up his phone and called Lewis.
"H-hey, Lewis." Wiatt greeted. "I know I called earlier today-yesterday! Yesterday was my dad's funeral, I'm calling because I had a bad nighmare about - never mind. It's late you won't answer bye."
Wiatt laid back on his father's bed as he stared at the ceiling, the nightmare was so vivid and gory sleep was miles away. And in his core Wiatt felt something bad was about to happen.
The worst is just around the bend
And does he notice my feelings for him?
And will he see how much he means to me?
I think it's not to be
What will become of my dear friend?
Where will his actions lead us then?
Months past and Wiatt had to close the doors to Nickel-Per-Pay due to cost and school, everyone understood especially since Owen's passing. Wiatt was able to give the former employees their final paychecks, sell off some of the equipment before handing over the keys to the real estate company, and walking away from Nickel-Per-Pay forever.
Wiatt felt horrible something his grandparents created and father kept opened was now gone forever because he couldn't keep his shit together.
Sure, he told himself he would open it back up one day, but he wasn't an optimistic person. How he made it so far without-
Wiatt took out his phone to call Lewis.
Surprise surprise no answer. Wiatt had enough of this he spilled his heart out to his ex about breaking the promise to contact him, not responding to calls, and etc.
"If you weren't mad at me, I'd rather have you alive to be as mad as you want. Uh, bye." Wiatt hung up the phone.
Fast Forward
Autumn
Wiatt finished his last class of the day and was taking a stroll in town.
The once green leaves were turning shades of brown, red, and orange. Stores were hanging Halloween decorations of ghosts, witches, and pumpkins, sadly some stores had snowflakes, mistletoe, and Santa Claus decorations up already (keep it in your pants you corporate jerks and let me enjoy fall). Wiatt took a seat on a bench at a nearby park as he watched friends and families were jumping in leaf piles, chatting, and enjoying the weather.
For the first time in months Wiatt felt a great weight off his shoulders sure he lost contact with Lewis and the lost of his father and Nickel-Per-Pay still stung, but he was looking forward to the future.
Wiatt was starting classes, got a part time job, and made a few friends one was named Rain who was studying animation and was working on a sci-fi show and the two got along great! Things were going great, yet he still felt he had one loose end.
Wiatt pulled out his phone and began texting.
Dear Lewis, I hope everything at Dreamworld Facility is going well!
Who am I kidding? Of course it's going well, news has spread to the town and everyone is happy for you guys.
Some even say they want to head up there to see the facility and the amazing animatronics!
School has been fine, I made some new friends - one's name is Rain, classes are okay, and the meal plan needs improvement.
Sadly, I had to close the arcade. Couldn't juggle school and the family business since dad's death.
Anyway, I'm going to cut to the chase-
I don't know why you stopped talking to me and why, but I have to say this -
I'm happy for you.
You are the smartest and most artistic person I've ever met and I'm happy we were able to spend time together.
You, Oliver, and Sara have come such a long way, are living your dreams, and I hope for many more successes in your the future.
If this truly is the last time we speak, I hope you're happy.
Lo-Bye, Wiatt.
For the first time in months Wiatt felt a great weight off his shoulders sure he lost contact with Lewis and the lost of his father and Nickel-Per-Pay still stung, but he was looking forward.
Wiatt sent his final text to Lewis he felt relieved yet at the same time sad.
But to be fair Lewis never returned his calls no matter what the excuse was. So, YEAH, maybe it was for the best... No matter how much it hurt.
It took Wiatt every fiber in his being not to cry as he left the park and headed to his apartment.
"I guess it wasn't meant to be." Wiatt told himself.
Although I'd like to join the crowd
In their enthusiastic cloud
Try as I may, it doesn't last
And will we ever end up together?
No, I think not, it's never to become
For I am not the one
A month later
"And here's your prescription." The pharmacist said as she handed Wiatt his medication.
"Thank you." Wiatt said as he took the tiny paper white bag . "And this will help with my nightmares?"
"Try this for a week and if you feel the meds aren't working or getting worse we can prescribe you something else." The pharmacist said.
"Okay, I'll see ya later." Wiatt said as they both waved goodbye.
"Poor kid, I hope this new batch works." The pharmacist sighed with a worried look on her face.
Wiatt walked out the pharmacy as he stuffed his meds in his satchel when-
*CRASH*
Papers flew into the air as Wiatt landed on his butt.
"Shit!" Wiatt cursed getting up noticing a lady on the floor. "Oh no!"
Wiatt helped the lady up and started picking up her papers.
"I'll help you with -" Wiatt looked at one of the papers to see it was a missing persons poster with - "LEWIS?"
"WIATT?"
Wiatt looked up to see Lewis's mother! Mrs. Bright wrapped her arms around Wiatt and cried into his shoulder.
"Mrs.Bright, what happened, where's Lewis?" Wiatt questioned.
"Oh, Wiatt, Darling." Mrs.Bright cried. "Lewis is missing."
PRESENT
"Wait, if it wasn't none of you and it clearly wasn't me -" Norman began to panic. " THEN WHERE IS WINNIE'S BODY?"
*R̵̟͖̆Ǫ̵̩͎̂̕A̵͙̒͝R̶͉̬͚͓̓̑̚͜͝*
"AAAHHH!"
Rex, Glory, Star, and Norman rushed back into the room to see Rainbow Dancer, Morris, and Astra guarding the others from - Wiatt and Sunny?
Sunny and Wiatt turned to the four and smiled at them - with razor sharp teeth ready to carve into flesh, nails now blackened like burnt coal and turned into claws that could slash through hardest stone, and eyes - GOD, THEIR EYES - their eyes were twisted with a mixture of malicious and glee and there irises pitch black with a hint of soulless ness!
