Jaskier didn't know he was a half dragon until one year at Kaer Morhen.
He's in the courtyard watching Ciri and the Wolves train. Ciri is on the pendulum, but gets knocked off hard enough to send her off the large cliff close by.
“CIRI!” Geralt screams as he and everyone else go running to the cliff side.
Jaskier’s protective instincts kick in and he throws himself off the cliff without thinking. He feels his gut turn as he falls. His limbs start to change shape. He feels a sharp stabbing pain in his back and hears the sound of his clothes ripping off. His body moves on its own. As Jaskier dives, he catches Ciri before she can hit the ground.
With her safe in his massive clawed hand, with a powerful flap of his wings, he flies back up and lands gently in the courtyard.
“That was so cool!” She shouts, but her excitement quietly fades as she hears a terrified roar behind her. Yennefer quickly escorts her into the keep unsure if jaskier is still himself in this new form. Whatever was about to happen Yennefer Knew it would be best if the twelve year old girl does not see it.
Once the adrenaline wears off, Jaskier realises what he's turned into and starts to panic. His breath comes out in short puffs with flames as he stares down at his golden scaly hand.
“What the fuck happened to me!” he says in a voice much deeper than he expected it to sound.
Geralt approaches slowly, both hands in front of him like approaching a scared animal. “It's…It's ok Jask just try to breathe.”
Jaskier feels tears sting the corner of his eyes. Nuzzling his large snout into Geralt's chest, he takes a deep breath, beginning to weep.
“I look hideous don't I ?!”
Geralt bites back a laugh, not surprised that's the first priority his lover thught to ask.
“No Julek. You're just as beautiful in this form I promise,” he reassures, he pets and kisses Jaskier’s snout, not unlike he would for Roach. He truly ment it to, his scails glittered butifully in the setting sun
“This is so fucking weird,” Lambert pipes up from across the yard. He stands there with Esekl and Vesemir.
“It is quite odd that the bard never smelled anything other than human until now.” Vesemir observed. They heard another loud roar-like sob.
“Maybe we should give them some privacy,” Eskel suggests, "he seems to still be aware so i don't think he's dangerous" he shruged and the trio go inside..
Several hours later, the sun, having gone down, Jaskier finally figured out how to shift back into a human, but it leaves him in so much pain he can't move. He lays there, naked, in the snow head resting on Geralt's lap shaking. Geralt helps him sit up; wrapping him in his black cloak.
It hurts to move, his muscles feel like they are on fire. He chokes out a sob and tucks his head under Geralt's neck.
“Shhh. Shh it's okJask. I'll tell Yen to make you some tea to help with the pain.” Geralt picks him up and carries him inside bridal style.
“I…I didn't know I could do that.” Jaskier says, barely louder than a whisper.
“I know It's ok everything is going to be ok i promise.” Geralt kisses his forehead, taking him into the main hall.
As the family surrounds them, concern on all their faces, Geralt moves toward the stairs,
“I'm taking him to bed, he's in a lot of pain. Yen can you make that tea, the herbs that relax mucils?”
“Of course,” she says, rushing to the kitchen.
Geralt takes Jaskier to their shared room and places him on their bed.
He's greatful when Geralt tucks him under the heavier blanket and he lets his body relax under the weight though he still aches.
“Better?” Geralt asks.
“A little…yes,” Jaskier responds with a warm smile, as his lover sat back down on the side of the bed, gently tucking a long strand of chestnut hair behind Jaskier’s ear.
ciri appeared in her night dress with the tea on a tray with some extra bread and a small bit of cheese.
“grandpa says it's when someone goes througha magical transformation it takes alot of energy and can leve you with an empty stomach.” she said as she sat on the bed next to Geralt.
Wincing as he sat up, Jaskier sipped the tea. Ciri looked down at her hands figeting with her gown "im sorry for this if i wasn't more careful while training this wuldent have happened and youwuldent be in pain. "
"oh ciri you have nuthing to be sorry about my dear girl. If it meant saving you I'd do it again in a hart beat body pain be damed. " he squeezed her hand ofectionitly to emphasize his point.
“ thank you, I'll let you rest,” the witcher girl said, leaving the room with a sad smile. "Good night cub" Geralt calledout "good night ciri replied"
When the cup was empty, Jaskier settled back into his cocoon of blanket. " you should relly eat it will help" Geralt ponted out but moved the tray to the bed side table Jaskier mumbled " hmm not now , to nushus. "
“I have so many questions,” he said, looking up at his witcher with tired eyes fluttering closed.
“Hmm, tomorrow we can look around the library for anything on half dragons, though I doubt we'll find any answers here. I didn't even know they existed till today.” Geralt cupped Jaskier’s cheek with one hand.
“ For now get some rest. We can talk more about it in the morning.”
“Thank you Dearheart,” Jaskier hummed, closing his eyes, and slipping into the comfortable embrace of sleep.
