Chapter Text
"Extraordinary. You stand as a paragon of your kind, human. You fight like no human or demon I have ever known. Though this is not the end. My hate... never perishes. It is born anew in a cycle with no end! I will rise again. Those like you... Those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero... They are eternally bound to this curse. An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time!"
Link shot up out of bed, taking in heaving breaths, trying to clear his head of the nightmarish memory.
Godkiller, he reminded himself, they wouldn’t call him the Godkiller if Demise wasn’t dead and gone. But that’s a title that was given to him, and Link dealt the finishing blow himself. So why does it still feel as though Demise is ever present.
There was no getting back to sleep now, so Link got up, got dressed, and made his way to the Temple of Hylia. He needed to see Fi.

“Hey, Fi… I know you’ve gone to sleep but by the Three do I wish you were here. At least with you by my side I knew for sure I’d make it through.”
The Master Sword remains silent, and Fi remains asleep within it. Link stays there till sunrise.

“Zelda, I swear, these dreams I’ve been having— they’re less and less like memories, they’ve started to feel more like omens!”
“Link, you’ve killed Demise, he’s gone! These dreams are probably just that, dreams!”
It was becoming more and more common to see Link and Zelda arguing over Link’s dreams. Zelda tries to reassure him constantly, saying that if Demise was back then surely she, as Hylia reborn, would know about it. Link isn’t convinced. He may have killed Demise, but that curse… Link can’t stop thinking about it.
“I will rise again.”
He swears on the Golden Three that he saw Demise in a dream, fiery red hair and all.
“Those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero... They are eternally bound to this curse.“
He also saw a young blond who was wielding Fi standing face to face with Demise.
It all felt far too real for Link to dismiss it as Zelda was doing.
“This is not the end. My hate... never perishes.”

It wasn’t long before Link found himself at Fi’s side in the middle of the night once again. Something felt different this time. There was a certain sort of melancholy all around, more than usual. And there was anticipation too, though Link couldn’t quite tell what he was supposed to be anticipating. He just felt it. Something was going to happen.
And happen something did. The Master Sword—Fi—begins to glow. She’s finally awake again.
“Hello, Master Link, Hero of the Sky, Godkiller.”
Link pulled the Master Sword from its pedestal. He was so happy to have her back.

As the sun rose, Link was still in the temple with Fi. Something more than just the light filtering in changed within the temple. It was far more than just unexpected to see a portal open in the space in front of them. Link was most definitely disconcerted, incredibly so in fact.
“Master, I sense that this portal is of Hylia’s creation. I recommend going through sooner rather than later. By my calculations, resisting the portal will not end pleasantly.”
“Thanks for the heads up Fi. Well… with you here now, I can get through anything, right? Let’s see where this thing leads.”
And with that Link, Fi at his side, stepped through the swirling portal.

“So what you’re telling me is a portal made by Hylia dropped you off in the middle of mine and my wife’s ranch, a portal which you stepped through without knowing where it led, because the spirit that apparently dwells within the Master Sword told you to. Your name is also Link, and you’re a goddess chosen hero.”
Link, the Hero of Time according to Fi, was clearly not believing what Link—oh this is about to get confusing—was telling him.
“Yeah, that’s about the gist of it.”

It’s been several months since that first portal, and over a month since the last portal to a new Hyrule—the longest time they’ve ever gone without meeting a new Link. This in mind, the chain, now with eight of them, was pretty confident that their group was complete.
And then in the middle of dinner—if you could call it that—another swirling golden portal showed up, identical to all the other portals that ended up taking them to a new Hyrule with a new hero.
So, not complete then. No point in holding off on meeting the new hero, one by one the heroes stepped through the portal.
