Work Text:
It's not like he expected Izuku to let him down. It’s simply… he didn't exactly expect him to say no. It’s embarrassing, just a little. But the embarrassment isn't it all. His heart is fucking taking a beating and he feels sick to his chest. He shouldn't have said anything.
“I’m sorry Kacchan, I do really like you– just not like that! You know! I admire you a lot and I'm flattered truly but I'm interested in girls, if I did like guys I’d like you for sure–”
“It’s fine Izuku,” it’s hard to choke the words out but he wants Izuku to stop talking at the same time. Least to say, it fucking sucks. He expected so much more. It’s not even fair to ask, after all he put Izuku though, he doesn’t deserve this. It’s what he gets.
It seems like Izuku wants to continue talking, but Katsuki just wants this conversation to end, “I’ll uh-- catch you around?”
It’s almost poetic, how he confessed on graduation day. He wanted it to signify their new start and a new chapter but… now he just fucked up. Hopefully he didn't ruin the day for Iuzku too.
Thankfully his mom talked him outta getting an apartment straight after graduating, he was planning on getting a place with Izuku. Now, it’d be fucking embarrasing having the damn guy hear him cry.
Whatever. He’d get over it. He has too.
He expects to chase after him forever but now he just needs some space, some time to recover before they battle it out for number one and two heroes for years to come. It’ll hurt less with time.
♡
He’s in a pub next time he runs into someone from UA. He hasn't been distancing himself from his friends but Izuku’s friends are another story. What would Izuku say to them, now that they aren't spending time together? The truth? Or just brush it off and shrug?
It’s almost been shitty living at home in his childhood bedroom. God.
So when he sees that mop of red and white hair he sinks into his seat, what is Icy Hot doing in this damn joint? He’ll probably ignore him, or wave and pass by with a smile, what he doesn't expect is the man's eyes to widen as he makes his way across the hall.
“Bakugou,” Todoroki's voice surprisingly sounds warm for him talking to a guy that hated his guts. God, he always hated the guy cause he viewed him as competition with Izuku. Not that he was interested in guys anyway, but…
“Icy Hot, surprised to see you,” he ends up accepting the fact that they’ll talk.
Icy Hot, well, looks good. He’s a relatively attractive guy and he’s dressed in a black dress shirt with a few loose buttons. His hair grew out a little bit. Huh.
“How have you been spending your time?” Formal as always.
“Uh, here and there,” short and sweet, he isn't going into details especially with this bastard. “You?”
Todoroki sinks into the seat next to him, “I have quite the dilemma,”
“Tsk,” huh. Interesting start of the conversation. At least he’s not the only one in the shitter, “Well, now you're making me interested,”
“Well,” he sighs, “I've gotten into kind of a slump taking care of Shouyou and I can't leave him home alone too much, and I hate waking up early but I feel like I’m starving him and then he’s so loud and cries so much–”
What the fuck? Talk about a dump of information. Who the fuck is Shouyo? His fucking— is Todoroki taking care of a child?
“You’re a dad?”
“Uh, yeah…” What the actual fuck???! Damn, he didn't expect Icy Hot to have it in him, “A cat dad.” Oh.
“Oh, well, I’m sure you’ll–”
“And Soba is starting to taste bland…”
“Have you been eating Soba everyday?”
“Yes.”
“How are your parents allowing this?”
“Oh. I live alone.”
Silence fills the air, lucky ass. He knows Todoroki’s family situation isn't great (moreso fucked up) so he can't compare… but the words leave him unintentionally, “Nice.”
Todoroki looks at him, silence fills the air, “and you?”
“Uh, back home, yunno.”
“Bakugou, say, are you good at taking care of a cat?” Todoorki’s eyes are glimmering with a teasing look, and Katsuki is almost scared to say yes. But something in him wants to match this weird fuckers energy.
“Bet I could.”
♡
Todoroki’s place is nice, definitely nicer than a place that Katsuki could afford on his own. He offered to split rent, but Todoroki just shrugged and said his dad was paying for the place anyways. So it made him no difference.
Spending the day unpacking boxes does get annoying, Katsuki honestly didn't expect that he had so much shit. Finally, he pops his ass on the couch and takes a breather.
“I’m tired,” Todoroki is sighing as if he was the one predominantly heavy lifting rather than standing around looking pretty.
“Like you did anything princess,” the words escape him more freely then he expects. Whatever.
“I'm sitting down,” No need to announce it, but Todorki does anyway. The couch is definitely big enough for the 2 of them, but he sits closer to Katsuki’s side, towards the middle of the couch, rather than the opposite end.
“I'm tired.”
“I know you said that just now,” Katsuki sighs.
“Can we watch tv?” Shouto is leaning into the couch, acting like they moved the whole apartment in from scratch.
“Sure, but maybe change out of jeans first.”
Todoroki manages to leave the room and come back to the couch, why he didn't decide to take a nap on his bed beats him.
Katsuki sets up the TV at the same time, flipping through the channels. There's a multitude of subscriptions and on demand cable, which, shit, even he didn't have these many channels at home.
“I like your place,” Katsuki admits, the place is nice, it's hard to think he lives here too now.
“Our place,” Todoroki corrects him, “You live here too now.”
“Yeah,” it’s true, but it feels unreal. It’s so gorgeous here and he’s actually rooming with a friend, not some random person off the internet. It’ll be fun.
“You can decorate it a bit,” Todoroki shrugs looking around, “It’s kinda plain in here.”
It’s true, the place does look generic. “How long have you lived here?”
“Couple months.”
Now that Katsuki thinks about it, the place doesn't look homely at all. More like a fancy hotel room. “We should go shopping for some new decorations.”
♡
That’s how they end up in the store a couple of days later. Pushing a cart as Shouto looks around excitedly.
“I never had this when I was younger, I don't.. know where to start.”
“Start with what you like,” Katsuki, unless Todoroki had many options in his childhood to decorate his space how he wanted. He almost feels like he wants to throw Todoroki into the store and have him buy anything he even sets his eyes on momentarily.
“Do you like this?” he points out a little rug, it's warm in colour. It’ll definitely fit in.
“Do you like it?” he snaps back.
Todoorki contemplates this for a moment, “yes,” he observes it for a second, “it’ll look good in the kitchen.”
“Hmh, let's get it then.” Todoroki makes no move to put it in the cart and just stares at Katsuki expectedly. Fine. I guess he’s lifting the rug (which was not heavy at all). “Couldn't have done that yourself.”
“You're stronger than me.”
“It's a rug,” but doing tasks for Todorki feels fulfilling for him. There’s something about seeming like a provider that makes him feel satisfied. But it is just a rug.
They’re walking past a few plushies now, as Katsuki spots Todoroki eyeing them. “Do you want one?”
“They're not practical,” were the first words out of his mouth. It sounds kind of foreign like he’s repeating something from someone else.
God. He didn't expect himself to come to this in his lifetime. “Would it make you happy?”
Todoroki didn't speak up, but walked up to the plushies. “This one kind of looks like you,” he’s picking it up and playing with the little details. He gives it a long look, “I’ll take it.”
♡
Todoroki was working late at the agency, Katsuki made way more dinner for the both of them. He’s always liked cooking and this nice luxurious kitchen definitely does help. It’s enjoyable, and Todoroki would probably die without him– as he was, only eating Soba noodles before he moved in.
He’s letting the rest of the food sizzle as he washed up his own plate. Todoroki did say he was going to be late.
The rest of the night passes slowly and by the time he knows it he hears the doorknob gingling and Todoroki is coming in.
Least to say he looks exhausted.
At these points of the day, Todoroki does not choose to speak much, so Katsuki greets him and tells him about dinner. The other man looked relieved.
Katsuki himself is sitting on the couch, some random side noise is playing on the television as he scrolls though his phone. After a while he feels the cushions of the couch move and another body sink right next to his.
“Annoying day?” Katsuki asks.
“The worst,” Todoroki is groaning and going to give his legs a stretch. “It was not pleasant, I just want to go to bed.”
“No one’s stopping you.”
Todoroki, though, responds with, “but then I wouldn't be able to spend time with you.”
For some reason, these odd comments made Katsuki’s heart speed up a little. Weird. He turns to take a good look at Todoroki who is leaning into the couch. His long hair, which has even grown, looks messier than it's ever been.
“Your hair is a mess,” Katsuki rolls his eyes, but he almost wants to run his fingers through it, “Did you brush that damn thing or get it wrecked at work?”
“Work,” Shouto honestly does look really exhausted, but physically, but mentally, now that he’s taking the other man’s appearance in,
He isn't even sure how to help. “Let’s turn on your favorite channel?” he proposes as he reaches for the remote, Todoroki hums in turn and suddenly he feels the warmth of his face plastered into his shoulder.
Oh. And that was… weirdly nice.
Katsuki isn't sure why Todoroki is leaning into him, he never expected him to be a fan of physical contact before they moved in together. But Todoroki is more touchy than he expected. He never even seemed like this in UA.
Todoroki’s face is leaning on his shoulder and it’s taking everything out of Katsuki not to have him lay on his lap, so he could play with his hair.
The television plays the stupid american reality show as he hears Todorki exhale, and move in closer.
He just seems so pliant and movable, moreso then on a daily basis where he radiates hero and confidence. Seeing the contrast honestly feels like an honor.
“Hey, uh, Todoroki,” he’s about to move him onto his lap as Todoorki groans. He probably thinks he wants him to stop touching him, but instead, Katsuki angles their body and gently moves his face onto his lap.
Todoroki just allows for himself to be maneuvered without question, and before Katsuki can second guess it he’s running his fingers through Todoroki’s hair.
It’s softer, softer than he expected. Kind of silky in nature but also a little thick, surprisingly the two different colour hues don’t feel different. Todoorki exhales again, so Katsuki reaches for the back of his neck and gives a small little massage. “Okay?” he asks.
“Mhm, so good,” Todoroki sighs into the movement, his body relaxing into the touch. Katsuki was honestly enjoying it too.
It’s nicer though, to give back and do something for Shouto that someone else couldn't. Something that’d make him happy.
“Do you know how to braid hair?” Todoroki asks, “I always wanted my hair braided. I feel like you’d be good at it”
“No,” braiding his hair would be nice, he wonders how it’ll look like.
“Hhmh, it would've been nice Bakugou,” Todoroki smiles as he closes his eyes, “you could do my hair for work.”
“Tsk,” he sighs but he’s not unhappy about the idea, “I already always make you lunch.” But he does plan on learning.
“I don't hear you complaining.”
♡
It seems like Shouto honestly hates working, he would never tell you straight up, maybe he doesn't even know it himself. But Katsuki can tell the way Todoroki lights up when they suggest doing an activity, so now he’s been trying to improvise. Todoroki outside of work is a different guy.
“Todoroki, have you ever been to the Museum of Hero History?”
It’s funny that Katsuki is the one asking to go out with him unpromptedly. That he enjoys his presence and wants to see Todoroki happy.
Obviously, everyone in their damn region has seen the museum of fine arts, and Todoroki is fully enough an adult but–
“No.”
‘No?”
“Endeavor though there wasn't a point.”
He almost wants to ask why he never went himself, but it's a silly question. “So let's go?” Another part of him is agitated at his damn father.
“To the museum?”
“Obviously! Isn't that what I just said?”
“Oh. I didn't know you were interested in stuff like that.”
“Well, we have a free night off and I'm not just gonna sit here!” Katsuki does want to do fun things, and honestly, the museum seems like fun but maybe more so for Todoroki, as he’s never been. “Common,” he leans against the counter, “I’ll braid your hair.”
“You will?” Todoroki’s eyes widen as a bit of excitement runs though his expression, “you know how?” Spectism rolls though his expression.
“Well, I can try,” Katsuki has watched a bunch of tutorials online. He did spend some time searching up how to, choosing his favorite designs. “Common, sit down.”
Todoroki is compliant, as he sits down still and ready. He’s actually… really good at following instructions. It makes Katsuki almost want to show him that he doesn't need to or maybe Shouto enjoys it. He never expected him to be so passive in his own relative ways.
“I’ll sit still, promise.”
“Tsk,” he mutters, “tell me if it hurts.” Todoroki hums. Katsuki gently maneuvers the hair, but just hard enough that it should stay for the remainder of the day.
It makes him a good 2 tries to have a satisfied result. “Sorry, did that hurt?”
“It’s okay, feels nice,” at this Katsuki feels the blush reach his face.
“Stupid! You just don't say that.”
“Why not? I like it when you play with my hair,” it’s not inherently sexual, but something about it makes Katsuki heat up. Fuck, he’s now imaging pulling Shouto’s hair. It’s fucked. Why does this stupid guy have him feeling like this?
The words escape him before he even knows what possesses him, “yeah, what else do you like about me?”
He expects Todoroki to laugh, brush him off but instead he gets a real answer, “You’re strong, and brave, and have a nice smile.”
So many compliments. Fuck. he didnt expect that. “When do I ever smile?”
“You do, all the time,” Todoroki’s voice is steady, “just with your eyes when you look at me.”
“Tsk,” he’s embarrassed. No way does his approval for Todokri shine though his eyes, “You’re imagining things.”
“Sure,” but there’s a humorous pull to his voice, “your turn.”
‘My turn what?”
“What do you like about me?”
He isn't sure how to voice it in words but once he opens his mouth, “I like the person i am around you and how you make me feel.” God, that is too honest. Too much like some dumb confession. Which it was not.
“How do I make you feel?”
‘Calm,” he breathes out.
♡
It’s been a few days since Katsuki and Todoroki went to the museum.
Katsuki just cares about Todoroki so much that it makes his stomach feel sick. He’s never felt so, well, possessive over someone. If anyone even looks at Todorki the wrong way, he wants to have them dealt with.
Like now, they're sitting by at a cafe, waiting for their drinks to come. After Katsuki realized that Todoroki likes leaving the house, he started pushing them to attend activities that would be fun. Just yesterday he was thinking about going to a movie next week… but they already watch too much television.
There's some weird guy staring at the back of Todorki’s neck. Todoroki himself can't see him, but it's evident to Katsuki who's sitting across from the man. Fuckin weirdo.
Todoroki is playing with his straw, while Katsuki himself is taking time with his drink. He isn't the biggest coffee fan, but Todoroki is. Todoroki is almost done with his own drink as Katsuki can tell he was contemplating getting a larger size.
“Do you wanna try mine?” Katsuki asks, shoving his own drink towards the man. Todoroki’s eyes widen as he nods. Katsuki may have expected that he’d take out his own straw and exchange them, but no, Todorki just put his lips around Katsuki’s straw. That’s like… an indirect kiss is it? God. He’s an idiot. What is he, 12 years old?
“Hmh,” Todoroki is inspecting the drink and not shoving it back to Katsuki, taking another sip, “It’s sweeter than i expected.”
“Is that a problem?” Katsuki actually does have a sweet tooth, sure he enjoys spice but he can respect a little bit of a sweeter delicacy too. “Sorry we don't all drink coffee plain black,”
“Oh,” Todoroki is a bit quieter, “I didn't know I could choose something different.”
Katsuki almost wants to second guess the man or question his existence, but instead he feels a little bit more sympathy for him. Has Todoroki never tried different drinks? “ Todoroki, you could try anything you'd like on the menu.”
“Oh,” there's a small smile as he takes another sip, “this is much better than my drink Katsuki.”
Katsuki. It sounds nice in Todoroki’s voice, warm and caring but also surprising to hear, he didn't expect his given name to escape his mouth. Todoroki must've noticed that Katsuki was taken aback before he adds, “Is it okay if i call you that?” a little shrug, “I figured we’re friends.”
“Yeah, uh, it’s fine,” he doesn't snatch his own drink from Shouto who has now taken over, “Guess it's only fair I call you Shouto.’
At this, Shouto does blush. It’s not very evident but the small fluster graces his cheeks, “I’d like that more.”
“Yeah?”
“It’s better than Todoroki, it reminds me of my dad.”
“That’s fair,” Katsuki know’s the history of them, just slightly, but from what he knows the relationship isn't a good one. It’s better now than it's ever been, but there's still hesitancy and tension between them too.
“I like your name, Katsuki,” he acts like he’s trying the name out, saying it slowly and trying it out, “Kat-su-ki.”
“Idiot, don't say it like that,” It shouldn't make him flustered, but having Todoroki–or Shouto, play around with his name like that, as if it’s a high honor but also a delicacy of some sort has him going haywire.
They’re walking down the strip of the neighbourhood. It’s nice.
“Can I say something?” Shouto asks, as he holds up Katsuki’s drink. He’s walking slowly, brushing shoulders against Katsuki.
“Of course,” Katsuski’s voice is kinder than he anticipated, “you don't have to ask.”
“I, uh, am a little scared,” Scared? Of what? Is Shouto kicking him out…? But there's a twist in his gut, he doesn't wanna be secreted from Shouto. Over the last couple of months, he can't imagine his life otherwise. To be honest… well, kind of in love.
“Well spit it out,” again, the words have no malicious intent.
“I really like you Katsuki,” Shouto stops, he turns around to face him and tell him the words with intention, “I think about you all the time.”
Katsuki blinks. His heart feels full.
“I like the way I feel around you. I like how you take care of me and Shouyou. I kinda, well, have been considering us a little family.”
“Shouto,” he’s never felt happier, “I really wanna kiss you right now.”
♡
“I know, uh, something happened between you and Midoriya when we were at UA.”
“Yeah, we have a lot of history.”
“But, you stopped hanging out after graduation. Why is that?”
Katsuki sighs, he isn't going to lie. Plus, that was a long time ago. “I, uh, confessed to him. That I liked him.”
“Oh,” Shouto looks surprised. But then a realization graced his face. “You liked him.”
“Yeah, I did. A lot.”
There’s silence as they sit on the couch, Shouto’s feet perched up on Katsuki’s lap and Katsuki runs his fingers through them massaging the sides. “He said no?”
“Said he didn't like guys.”
“I always thought,” Shouto sighs, there's a look of confusion that graces his face, “that he liked you.”
“Well, so did I. Evidently, since I told him.”
“I'm sorry,” It’s warm, and surprising to hear. His current boyfriend apologizes for not being able to get with his childhood crush.
“Tis fine,” he breathes out, “It hurt for a long time, but I wouldn't change what happened.”
At this Shouto smiles, “Katsuki, I,” he starts, his voice is confident, like what he’s saying means the truth and he stands by it, “He was your first love, I want to be your last.”
“Planning to keep me for the long run now?” Katsuki tries for non chalet but his heart is pacing, “You’re not getting rid of me ever.”
“I’d marry you,” Katsuki chokes on spit, he never gets over how blunt Shouto is, he has no hesitation behind his words.
“We’ll see who asks first then, huh?”He's teasing but there’s seriousness behind his words. Shouto would look pretty with a nice ring on his finger. Shining and bright like, just like him. He should start saving now. Endeavour wouldn’t pay for this one.
♡
He’s in the grocery store, shifting through the aisles. Shouto has left to ponder at the fish in tanks. Katsuki almost rolls his eyes. Shouto always gets upset that they're about to die but he doesn't stop from going to poke at the glass.
Katsuki though, has shit to do, meal prepping is no joke for 2 heroes.
He feels at peace with himself, he’s with his boyfriend (his beautiful, smart, caring boyfriend) and he’s grocery shopping for their shared home and works a profession he loves. He’s humming to himself.
Suddenly, a noise creeps up from behind him, a surprised but excited “Kacchan!”
Spinning around he’s faced forward to Izuku, he looks older, more tired, but happy. More muscular than before, but it’s only been some time from the last time he saw him more than a moment.
“Izuku hey,” he’s not dropping his first name. It’s the one sign of respect he can show Izuku. Even platonically.
He’s not awkward, not exactly, but he didn't anticipate this, so he does feel…like there's a lump in his throat, “How’ve you been?”
Izuku, well, he’s staring at him. He never lost the admiration in his eyes which Katsuki is thankful for. “I’ve been good! Just working! It's awesome how we’re hero’s now, isn't it?”
“yeah, it is,” and he doesn't lie. He feels content. Happy that their childhood dream did get accomplished, even though he watches Izuku from a distance.
“You’re working with All Might then, huh?”
“yeah! He’s been teaching me stuff after regaining my quirk, you know, it's a learning curve…You?”
“Oh, working with Endeavour,” he shrugs, but he can tell there's a smile gracing his face. Moreso that he works with his boyfriend, but, eh. Two birds and one stone.
“That’s awesome Kacchan!”
They stand in second of silence, it seems like Izuku does wanna say more, before there's an excited holler from around the corner,
“Katsuki! I got something for you–”
Shouto, beautiful as ever, is stumped in holding some sort of box, as he locks eyes with Izuku, “Midoriya, hello!”
Shouto makes his way over, finding his way beside Katsuki and the cart of groceries. He shoves the box in Katsuki’s face, it’s a silly– but very expensive– shower wash. Heh.
“Finally got sick of mine?” Idiot’s been stealing his stuff, even though he lies about it, “about time thief.”
Shouto gives him a little look, like he’s contemplating his words, he acts more clueless then he actually is but gives a little shrug.
Shouto then turns to Midoriya, “How have you been Midoriya?”
Midoriya though, is a little more confused than he was a second ago, Katsuki can tell his gaze is running between the two of them. Katsuki then takes a second to look at Shouto himself, he looks amazing. Nothing odd about his appearance.
Midoriya disregards the question, “Uh, you guys are shopping together?”
Shouto takes on the question before Katsuki can even let any words out, “Katsuki is shopping. I only carry the bags.”
Idiot, “Idiot,” he backhands the back of his head. Katsuki has said that in a offpassing joke once, “You chose half the food we buy.”
“Oh,” Izuku awkwardly chuckles, “I didn't know you guys lived together?”
“Mhm,” Shouto is smiling, Katsuki almost wants to initiate eye contact and pull him in closer for how soft that response sounded. Adorable. “Kastuki has saved my cat’s and my own life with his presence.”
“Tsk, our cat, dumbass,” but Katsuki is smiling too.
Izuku looks happy but also a bit confused, he clears his throat, “Oh, did you know guys are so close now!”
“We are,” Shouto looks so pretty it hurts, Katsuki almost wants to say something along like lines like ‘yes, we’re boyfriends, he’s mine. Mine ,’ but Izuku beats him to the next words.
“I'm having a little plus ultra get together, you guys are welcome to join!”
♡
Shouto and him are sitting on the couch in Izuku and Ochaco’s living room. It’s nice. It’s nice that they have their own place, Katsuki definitely cherishes the place he has with Shouto immensely.
“Hey! Help yourself to some snacks,” Ochaco is hosting warmly, Katsuki almost sits back and rests and admires how much more confident she seems in her skin.
Shouto of course reaches for the lollipops. “Do you know the flavors?” He’s tossing his long fingers around in the bowl, fishing around like they don't all taste the same.
“Uh, no sorry,” Ochaco awkwardly laughs, “Maybe purple?” She makes a joke as Shouto pulls out a purple lollipop.
Shouto plops the damn thing in his mouth and Katsuki just sits back and relaxes. He doesn't have to do much talking, he feels comfortable. These are his people.
“Yuck,” Shouto is pulling it out a second later. Katsuki sees out of his parallel vision that he's inspecting the damn thing, “Ugh,” now he says more sadly, “I don't want it to go to waste…”
“Tsk,” Kastuki huffs and Shouto shoots his head over like he forgot the other man was sitting next to him.
“Katsuki,” he leans the lollipop towards him as Katsuki sighs, and plops the damn thing in his mouth. He’s lucky he likes him. Shouto is a menace.
Kastuki didn't notice how quiet the room was. He expected more chit chat, but over the music it's hard to tell.
The gang and them start playing some catch up,
Shouto sighs, “It’s 7PM,” he announces like a weatherman. “On a Wednesday.”
Katsuki just knows he's talking about that stupid american tv show that Shouto watches religiously that he hates to miss. It’s some reality tv garbage they have seen before. On a weekly basis.
“--Uh, yeah Todoroki it is,” Ochaco chimes in as the rest of the bunch laugh.
Shouto sighs deeply, “I forgot about that,” he turns over to Katsuki, his puppy dog eyes are honest to God watering, “Katsuki we’re gonna miss–”
“I handled it. I recorded the show, we’ll play it back when we get home.”
“Oh!” The smile is back on his face as he goes and reaches down for yet another lollipop. Katsuki goes to smack his hand away.
“I'm not eating another one, idiot! Try something else!”
Shouto’s hand freezes as he contemplates. “How about you try it and tell me if I’d like it and then I can eat it.”
“How am I supposed to tell if you’d like it?”
“Please Katsuki, I trust you.”
Trust stupid Icy Hot to be ridiculous about a lollipop, but Katsuki’s heart pumps at that. Shouto’s words unintentionally impact him so much. “Fine.”
Shouto likes strawberries, but not the artificial kind. Grape is not, hence the yuckiness with purple. Orange would gross him out…. Green, surprisingly, may be safe. Even he takes a second to contemplate.
Katsuki picks the green out, pops the stupid wrapper off and shoves it in his boyfriend's hand, and tunes back into the group’s conversation.
“--And we were thinking we could visit my parents together,” Ocacho is talking to Jiro, as they all turn in together. “It'd be a nice couples trip for us, and letting them get to know Izuku like that.”
“That’s nice! When Denki came over he was honestly so nervous. He wouldn't tell you that though–”
Katsuki smells the little bit of sparks that Denki flares up in the air, “Hey!” the look of defeat gracing his face, “I was on my A game, oaky?”
There's a little bit more chit chat, as Shouto chimes in–
“Yeah, Katsuki was nervous to meet my mom,” he moves the lollipop around in his mouth. Oh, here we go. He should've expected something from Sho, “but I wasn't worried.”
Ochaco and Jiro laugh, but a little awkwardly, “Oh, Todoroki we mean like–”
Now, his boyfriend may seem clueless, but he definitely wasn’t. He can pick up subcontext quite well and he’s very observant. Of course he can tell they mean romantically.
“---Yeah, he knows.” Katsuki buds in.
“Oh,” and it’s Izuku’s voice adding in as Ochaco and Jiro freeze up.
“Sorry! We just thought you guys were only roommates.” Ochaco scratches the back of her neck, “Sorry…”
“Tis fine,” the silence picks up in the room, just the sound of Shouto chewing on the lollipop remains.
“So, how long have you guys been dating?”
“A year.”
“Oh, did your anniversary just pass?”
“Yeah. Katsuki is so romantic,” Katsuki feels his own face heating up, he never expected the words ‘Katsuki’ and ‘romantic’ to be in the same sentence.
Katsuki nudged him, they were keeping their relationship under wraps but at the end of the day…“Or go for it.”
“Katsuki took me to a aquarium–”
“He loves fish”
“It’s more than fish, there were sharks and eels and jellyfish…”
“Nice, that's cute!” –this is where the story gets a bit embarrassing.
“But Katsuki rented out the whole place at night, so it was just us both–”
“Oh! Wow!”
“--It was really romantic, they brought it a bunch of couches and tables and we had wine–”
“What did you guys do the whole night?”
Dumb question, but his mouth speaks out something nice instead, “observe the fish.”
At the same time as Shouto’s, “kissed under the water”
Ugh. Now this was not what he wanted to talk about…Especially since the amount of assumptions would be ridiculous. Katsuki feels his own eyes burn up as he covers his hand with an exasperated sigh.
“Shouto!” he’s about to be close to elbowing him but Shouto keeps talking.
“And Katsuki’s gift was amazing too–”
Seems like everyone is getting a bit invested with the way Denki is grinning and Ocacho gives out a giggle, “yeah? Do tell!”
Shouto turns to him, and finally he might get a sense of privacy before he breathes out, “nevermind, it is a bit questionable.”
“Oh common! We’re all friends!”
There’s an excited buzz, like everyone wants to know. Even Izuku’s voice does perk up, “I want to know.”
It feels a little too personal for people to know, Izuku is fidgeting a bit with the way his leg is shaking up and down.
“Was that, uh, not the gift already?” Izuku adds on, he’s a bit puzzled but eyes are wide.
“Well, yes. But this was just a bonus,” Kastuki rolls his eyes. He feels his mouth getting a bit dry out of awkwardness, but his memories of the night are so fond it also makes him happy talking about it.
“I’m unsure now if you’ve heard of them, but there’s this quirked chocolate on the market right now that for each piece you eat you have temporary impacts…” There’s silence, as if Shouto must continue, “like sensory deprivation ones–”
No, wait, no examples are needed. “Yeah, so let's just stay, we stayed at that aquarium for a long time,” Katsuki finishes up.
“Wait,” Ocacho says, “I've heard of those,” isn't it, like, really hard to get in Japan?” she quotes her voice a little, “I thought that was a myth.”
“No, completely real,” Katsuki did end up going though some hassles for a chocolate bar, but fuck was it worth it. Sounds stupid to say they just got… well, high in an aquarium, but whatever.
“That’s an awesome gift dude,” Denki says, “puts mine to shame!”
♡
More time has passed than expected.
Shouto pushes himself onto Katsuki’s side, “I’m tired.”
“I know Sho, we’ll leave?”
“Don’t wanna drive.”
“I will.”
“Mhm,” The room is busy, no one will notice them leaving, Katsuki goes to stand up off the couch and moves over to bridal carry Shouto out of here. He’s whipped, what can he say. “You take such good care of me.”
“Course princess, always,” Katsuki picks him up in his arms, falling almost face first in front of Izuku. “Sorry, didn't see you there.”
“Haha! It’s fine,” Izuku runs his eyes past the both of them, he doesn't look the most happy. Maybe something happened? He should ask later. “We’re heading out,” Katsuki bids him well. “Thanks for having us, Izuku.”
“Oh course Kacchan! You two are always welcome.”
Katsuki makes his way to turn around and carry Shouto out, before he hears Izuku’s words coming in again from behind him, “I’m really glad you guys found each other.”
“Thanks Izuku, me too.”
