Work Text:
James for one never questioned his sexuality. I mean he’s always liked Lily, so wouldn’t that make him straight? Apparently not.
It happened when James was walking into the locker room after a quidditch match against Slytherin. He had walked in and the sight that greeted him was let's say not unwelcome. It was Regulus Black with only a towel loosely wrapped around his hips and water dripping off his chest. That is when James realized that he might not be as straight as he thought he was.
James may be a gentleman, sometimes, but when it comes to Regulus, James is a weak weak man. And Regulus just has to have the amazing Black genes that make his waist the most enticing thing that James has seen, it makes James just want to grab it. It’s not really a surprise when James ended up falling for him, and falling hard.
It took all of James' restraint to not make Regulus his. I mean for one it’s Sirius’ brother and Sirius would most definitely hex James for “tainting” his little brother. James is certain that there's no way Regulus would like James back. James doesn’t even know if Regulus swings his way. Regulus is not shy on which gender he goes for but as we all know James is the king of obliviousness.
Sirius has already figured out that Regulus likes James and he tries his best to keep James and Regulus away from each other at all cost, even going as far as stalking them both on the marauders map.
Tonight the Gryffindors are throwing a party in honor of Halloween. James and Remus are sitting on one of the couches sipping their drinks, Firewhiskey for James and butterbeer for Remus. Remus is watching Sirius dance as James watches Regulus dance. A guy, Ben from Ravenclaw he thinks, comes up behind Regulus Dancing with him. A surge of something unknown flows through James.
‘Is this what jealousy feels like?’ Thinks James. He never felt something like this whenever he saw Lily with another guy, and hell James thought he was in love with her.
James realizes he’s glaring at both Regulus and the guy dancing and schools his face, putting on his signature side grin.
As the night goes on, James gets increasingly agitated. The guy never moves far from Regulus and it's getting on his nerves. What's even more irritating is that Regulus doesn’t seem to mind being followed, he looks like he’s loving the attention.
Remus notices how tense James seems to be. He follows James’ line of sight and sees what is making James an agitated mess. It looks as if Regulus is being extra flirty with the guy, smiling in a sweet but alluring way while occasionally looking over at James, who seems to miss those glaces.
Sirius seems to be unaware of the tension building between James, Regulus, and the guy, in the room that the people around James seem to have picked up on. He just keeps vibing to the different songs that play.
“Prongs, are you just gonna let some random dude flirt with Regulus?” Remus asks with a raised eyebrow, knowing that with a little persuasion James will finally work up the courage to go over to Regulus.
“It’s none of my business who flirts with Regulus, Remus.” James utters, keeping his stare on Regulus and the distance that seems to have seemed to have lessened between the guy and Regulus.
Remus holds back his amusement at James’ obvious jealousy. “So You’re definitely not jealous then?”
James nods. “I’m not jealous, I’m completely fine.”
“You’re a horrible liar James. Just go to him for merlin's sake.” Remus comments, pushing James off the couch.
“Ow!” James exclaims rubbing his elbow that he hit on the floor. A few people look their way but don’t ask any questions, going back to talking and dancing.
“I’ll keep Padfoot distracted while you ‘chat’ with Regulus.” Remus smirks, getting up and walking to Sirius, who seems to be already trashed.
James huffs and gets up from the floor, he finishes off his drink for a bit of ‘liquid courage’, before he finally starts walking through the crowd of people over to where the guy and Regulus are.
Regulus notices James first and has to hide the knowing smirk that grows on his face. He shifts his focus back onto the guy in front of him, who keeps making suggestive comments here and there.
James finally makes it to the duo, he taps the guy on the shoulder, having to look down at him as James is significantly taller than the other.
“Do you mind leaving and giving me and Regulus some time to talk.” James says to the guy, his voice making it clear he won’t take no for an answer.
The guy rolls his eyes but doesn’t try to stay, walking away from James and Regulus.
James watches him leave before turning back to Regulus. “You are so infuriating, do you know that?” James comments, stepping closer to Regulus, practically caging him against the wall.
All Regulus does in response is look at James with feigned innocence and tilting his head to the side. “I don’t know what you mean, Potter.” He says in response, using his last name in a way of annoying James.
James grips Regulus’ chin tightly, tilting his head up to look at him. He leans closer, his breath fanning across Regulus’ face. “I’ve kept my hands to myself for too long, Regulus.” He whispers into his ear.
Regulus shivers at the feeling of James’ breath near his neck. “What are you gonna do about that Potter?” He asks, trying to sound like what James was doing wasn’t effecting him.
James looks behind him making sure Remus is keeping Sirius occupied. He looks back at Regulus and smirks, leaning closer. “This” He says before closing the distance between them and kissing Regulus.
The kiss is filled with all the pent up desire and tension that has been accumulating over the past few weeks. Regulus melts into the kiss, kissing James back with just as much desire.
They’re only disrupted when someone drunkenly shouts, “James Potter and Regulus Black what the actual fuck!” That drunken person being Sirius Black, who is sitting on Remus’ lap, looking like he’s minutes away from passing out.
James pulls away from the kiss and looks down at Regulus. “You’re mine now. Don’t forget that.” He says, a hint of possessiveness clear in his voice. He waits for Regulus to nod in understanding before letting go of his chin and walking back over to Remus and Sirius.
He helps Remus bring Sirius into the dorm, shooting Regulus a wink as he walks past him on the way up to the dorms.
Barty and Evan walk up to Regulus, their appearance messed up. “What happened to you?” Barty asks Regulus, upon seeing Regulus’s dazed expression.
“None of your business.” Regulus retorts, coming out of his dazed expression. “What happened to you guys?” He asks Barty and Evan, seeing their messy appearance.
“Nothing” They both say at the same time.
Regulus lets it go, not bothering to question them anymore. The night continues, until everyone is gone and the common room is trashed with red solo cups and ties of all houses are thrown everywhere.
