This fic is a Jegulus rewrite that’s very heavily inspired by Before Us — ik the original is orphaned, but still gotta give credit where credit’s due.
Regulus ends up as James Potter’s college roommate, which is already a nightmare, and then he realizes James also comes with a baby. A literal baby.
Between late-night bottle disasters, Rosie falling asleep on him, and James accidentally being soft, Regulus starts getting attached in all the wrong ways.

It took me a long moment to realize that Barty was checking in on me in a sort of backhanded kind of way, but I sort of didn’t care. His laid back demeanor, the way he acted as if nothing mattered, but he went out of his way to care anyway- it was suffocating and addicting and all things ruinous.
“You and Regulus always fight, and it’s annoying. You stomped off, and I think he’s mad at me, too. Only, I’m not sure what I did,” I was very aware of the fact that I sounded like a resentful and whiny child.

Before he sacrificed himself in the cave, Regulus Black wrote a letter to his brother so he knew he was dying to save the world and to confess he was hopelessly in love with him. Sirius came and rescued him, but Regulus briefly died. Death promised Regulus temporary immortality if he went and found the Horocruxes and destroyed them. Sirius wanted to help, but Regulus said he would only let him help him if he married him...only to find out his brother had been in love with him all this time too.
