Work Text:
The land of shadow was nothing like he thought it be, tainted by it's name but life stood at every corner. Lost souls left to wonder, by selfish hornsent or burning genocide. Both sides delt by cruel gods and even crueler hands. The tombstones taunted him every step he took, this mile stone he had decided to take for mercy on his people and the one he loved most. Feet bare, the harsh wild grass piercing his toes doing nothing to break his thought process. He held a golden sword in his right hand, the blade jagged to the very tip.
Was this how Malenia felt?
Terrified, blood so cold with fear he swore his body had froze over. She had always been the brave one, never shedding a tear after all these years. He could still remember the exact look in her eye's when they told her she would lose her first limb. How she sought his comfort before anyone else, shaking desperately. The eyes of a child whose world would change forever in a fortnight. Her screams muffled into his shoulder while they cut inch after inch. He prayed all night that night, pleading, begging, for her soul. Kneeled till he's knees bloodied the floor.
The moon looked the same here, large always taking up half the sky. Finger's shook as the last of the incantation materialized in the air. The golden cross, a beacon for the loyal people he knows that would follow his footsteps.
Mind racing, he was so scared, the agony that would pierce each nerve. The world he could save, the outcasts he could nurture. The look in her eyes, the years that would come. Limb after limb, eyes that were so golden, that held everything, held him.
Perished.
Gone.
Never to be seen again. With a sob.
He started to cut.
