Chapter 1: Dick

Chapter Text

Peter was not okay.

Peter would not admit this ever but when being thrown into a new universe and a shitty universe at that would make him change his mind slightly. He knew he would be in a new universe. He wasn't allowed to stay in his own universe or the multiverse would fall apart. So here he is. In a shitty version of New York.

Peter thought about leaving the city immediately but then heard the screams. People pleading for help and he couldn't ignore that. This city needed him. This city needs Spider-Man.

His first thought was to help and he did so until he ran out of webs. Then things were a bit trickier. Peter didn't think he would run out of webs so quickly but he didn't think a city could have so much crime before either.

Peter almost thought this universe didn't have a government until he spotted the police officers patrolling the area. Peter wrapped up his latest criminal and huffed as Karen informed him that he was out of web fluid.

He had to make more. But where? Does this universe even have the chemicals he needs to make his webs.

"Where is a lab that has the materials I need to make my webs?" Peter asked Karen.

"The only lab that seems to have all the ingredients for your formula is Wayne Labs." Karen informed him.

"Do they have security?" Peter asked feeling a bit of guilt for what he's about to do.

"Yes but I should be able to disable it." Karen said and Peter smiled.

"Thanks Karen. Do you have a map of the city or should I go searching?" Peter asked casually walking up a building.

"I've acquired a map, the Wayne building isn't far from here and should be rather obvious if you head North West." Karen said showing a picture of the building in Peter's HUD.

"Thanks Karen. Let's see how well we can travel without our webs." Peter said jumping off the roof and landing on the next one. Peter was surprised to find his suit legs helping him soften the fall.

"Karen how strong are my suit legs?" Peter asked curiously.

"They are able to match your strength." Karen said and Peter smiled.

"Let's try this then." Peter said placing his extra legs on the roof and bending them.

"Peter do you intend to jump?" Karen asked a bit of worry in her voice.

"You bet I am." Peter said then used his legs and suit legs to jump to the next building. Peter laughed as he jumped way farther than expected and landed three roofs away.

"Yes!" Peter celebrated and did it again excitedly making his way across rooftops to get to Wayne Labs in a timely manner.

"What floor has the chemicals I need?" Peter asked as he found the building and latched onto the side of it.

"Many floors but the one you should aim for is floor 34. The chemicals are on the South East end second window from the right." Karen informed him.

"Great, and you'll take care of the security?" Peter asked as he made his way to his goal.

"I will tell you when it's safe to go in." Karen said and Peter made it to the window and looked in. The room was dark and looked generally unused.

"You're good to go." Karen informed him and Peter snuck in. Peter quickly grabbed a few beakers and the chemicals he needed and got to work. It took a total of ten minutes then he was out with his web shooters filled up.

"Do you think I should take some of this with me?" Peter asked curiously.

"I wouldn't advise swinging while holding dangerous chemicals." Karen said and Peter nodded.

"You're right." Peter sighed and put everything back the way it was then slipped out the window.

"Let's get back to work." Peter said and continued fighting crime deep into the night. It wasn't until the sun has begun to rise did he settle down into an abandoned apartment building he found. It was in bad shape and roof was near nonexistent but beggars can't be choosers.

Peter didn't really think about food or shelter or water when he first came into this universe. All he was thinking was he needed to help. He sometimes felt eyes on him when he was fighting but lost them easily enough. Now Peter was exhausted, starving, and parched.

"Karen, how long have I been in this universe?" Peter asked sighing sadly.

"Approximately nine hours." Karen informed him.

"I should probably look for food, or at least a place to get water." Peter said staring up his broken ceiling.

"I suggest going to the Martha Wayne Foundation. It's similar to F.E.A.S.T. I think you could aquire a meal there." Karen suggested.

"Okay." Peter said and retracted his suit it going into a compartment on his belt.

"Karen can you look like a hearing aid something small so I can still hear you?" Peter asked feeling nervous and vulnerable. Peter felt the nanotechnology move across his skin and shape around his ear.

"Better?" Karen asked and Peter sighed in relief.

"Yeah, I would swing there but I don't think I would be welcome as a vigilante." Peter said as he made his way out of the building and onto the street.

"I understand Peter. I'll guide you there." Karen said and Peter nodded walking to the Martha Wayne Foundation. Peter knew he was vulnerable and he knew he didn't want to get into a fight as a civilian.

He didn't have a wallet or money so he wasn't really worried about being mugged but he'd rather avoid anyone finding out his secret identity lest he almost destroy the universe again.

"Does a Peter Parker exist here?" Peter asked Karen quietly.

"No, you're the only Peter Parker in this universe." Karen informed him and Peter felt oddly comforted.

He didn't want to run into another Peter.

"What about a Spider-Man?" Peter asked next.

"There seems to be an obscure villain named Black Spider but other than that there doesn't seem to be a Spider-Man in this universe." Karen said and Peter nodded.

"That's good. No one knows me in this universe either. I don't exist." Peter said frowning at a dark alleyway he passed by. It was a normal alleyway but Peter swore he was being watched so he walked a bit faster.

"There are other vigilantes in this universe also a team of superheroes." Karen informed him.

"Anyone I would know?" Peter asked keeping his voice down.

"No, a group of vigilantes patrol this city you're in though. They are called the bats by the public." Karen said and Peter felt his paranoia pick up as he swear he heard steps on the rooftops above him.

"Are they good? Bad? Do they have bat powers?" Peter asked nearly running now.

"They seem to be good and have a no killing rule. From my research they have no powers except the daytime vigilante Signal." Karen informed him.

"Great, how close is the Martha Wayne Foundation?" Peter asked trying to slow his pace so the person who was following him couldn't figure out he had powers.

"Take a left at the stop sign and your destination will be on your right." Karen said and Peter took a deep breath to calm himself as he did his best to ignore the person who was following him from the rooftops.

He turned the corner then halted in his step as the person landed right in front of him. The perosn was wearing a black clad suit with a big blue bird symbol on his chest.

"Hey there! Where you headed?" The man asked and Peter didn't respond.

"This is Nightwing, secret identity Dick/Richard Grayson. Threat level high." Karen reported.

"Get out of my way Dick!" Peter yelled trying to shove past him. The vigilante looked at him in surprise then shook his head.

"Can I join you?" Dick asked and Peter looked at him skeptically.

"I'm where I want to be." Peter said noticing he arrived at the Martha Wayne Foundation. Dick looked up at the building then looked at him.

"Okay, just making sure because you looked dead on your feet. Who were you talking to?" Dick asked and Peter rolled his eyes.

"None of your concern." Peter said entering the building. Dick followed. Dick was analyzing him and Peter chose to ignore him and get some help from a volunteer.

"Can I get some water and food please?" Peter asked politely and he received the items without a fuss.

"Who are you kid?" Dick asked him and Peter huffed.

"I'm seventeen. I'm not a child." Peter said then started eating the food he was given and drinking the water.

"You get kicked out for being crazy?" Dick asked and Peter scowled at him.

"I did not get kicked out because I was crazy. I got kicked out because the multiverse would've ended if I didn't." Peter said and Dick stared at him.

"I'm not crazy." Peter said knowing just saying that did sound a bit crazy.

"Right, have any parents or a guardian?" Dick asked and Peter shook his head.

"I'm good on my own." Peter said and Dick frowned at him.

"Do you plan on ending the universe any time soon or being a criminal?" Dick asked and Peter sighed.

"No, also why would I tell you if I was?" Peter asked angrily.

"I don't know. Do you have a place to stay?" Dick asked and Peter was getting sick of answering his questions.

"Somewhat. It doesn't have a full roof but it's livable." Peter said honestly.

"Right." Dick said staring at him again.

"Why are you so interested in me in the first place? I haven't done anything illegal." Peter asked aggressively.

"Well, you were talking to yourself and you sort of spooked me when you spotted me in that alley." Dick said and Peter considered that information.

"I didn't know you were there." Peter said nonchalantly.

"You looked directly at me then ran. What else was I supposed to think?" Dick asked and Peter shrugged.

"Can I go back to my apartment now?" Peter asked as he finished eating.

"Let me escort you." Dick said and Peter sighed.

"Okay." Peter said and led the way.

"So where did you come from?" Dick asked and Peter didn't know how to answer.

Does New York exsist in this universe?

Karen seemed to pick up on his hesitance and reassured him that Queens, New York does exist in this universe.

"New York." Peter answered deciding it was safe to give away that information since he technically doesn't exist here.

"What part?" Dick asked.

"Queens." Peter said proudly.

He misses home so much.

"What are you doing in Gotham?" Dick asked and Peter clocked the name of the city remembering it so he could figure out more information about it later.

"I was kicked out." Peter said not sure how to describe how Strange said he would be transported into another universe for the safety of the multiverse.

"Of New York or your house?" Dick asked in confusion.

"Both, it wasn't really my choice." Peter said uncomfortably.

"Are you sure you're not a criminal?" Dick asked and Peter sighed.

"I'm not a criminal." Peter lied a bit.

He did steal from Wayne Labs and that is a crime.

"Did you dye that white streak in your hair?" Dick asked and Peter froze.

White streak? What did Strange do to him?!

"Y-yeah. I did." Peter lied forcing himself to keep moving.

"Have you seen your reflection lately?" Dick asked and Peter shuddered.

"No, it doesn't matter." Peter said that same annoyance he felt since he came to this universe rising up again.

He swears he can see green at the edge of his vision.

"Hey, it's okay. Just calm down. Do you remember how you got here?" Dick asked and Peter shook his head.

Strange said he would send him to a different universe but he didn't say it would hurt. It hurt badly and he woke up in a green pool of gunk, his suit thankfully intact.

Everything else he owned was gone though. He trudged out of the cave and found the nearest city then helped as Spider-Man. He didn't even think to look at his reflection.

"Hey, calm down. Just breathe with me." Dick's voice broke through his thoughts and he took a deep breath letting Dick calm him down.

"Why don't you come with me? Maybe I can help you?" Dick asked nervously.

"Not happening, Dick." Peter snapped and rushed away from Dick.

"Rude." Dick said following him. Peter smirked wondering how many times he can call the vigilante by his name before he picks up that Peter knows his identity.

"Not my fault you're a dick." Peter chuckled as Dick trailed behind him like a lost puppy.

"The name is Nightwing." Dick said trying to catch up to him.

"Nah, you act like a Dick. Maybe that should be your name." Peter chuckled as Dick looked offended, confused, and angry.

"It's not." Dick said and Peter couldn't help but chuckle.

"Sure it isn't, Dick." Peter said and entered his abandoned apartment building.

"Don't call me that! It's Nightwing!" Dick yelled and Peter had to stop himself from laughing out loud.

"Welcome to my humble abode, Dick." Peter said showing off the run down building.

"Don't call me that." Nightwing glared angrily.

"Make me." Peter chuckled and Dick grumbled in anger and annoyance.

"You can leave now, Dick." Peter said as he got to the room he decided to stay in.

"Not my name and is this seriously where you live?" Dick asked and Peter shifted uncomfortably.

"Yeah, so what? It has most of a roof." Peter said defending the little place he found. Dick face palmed and Peter frowned.

He knew it wasn't much but it was all he had.

"Kid... just come to my place, please." Dick pleaded and Peter considered it.

"Nightwing might give you a better place to sleep and it's not like you need to stay with him." Karen said her opinion on the matter and Peter nodded.

"Okay, I'll go to your place but only for one night." Peter agreed reluctantly.

"Perfect! Let's go!" Dick said leading the way out and Peter followed him without question. Dick led him to an actual apartment that had a roof and supplies.

"Are you hungry?" Dick asked as they arrived.

"Yeah." Peter said and Dick made some sandwiches. Dick made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Peter was just glad to eat something.

"I'm tired." Peter yawned in exhaustion after eating his sandwich.

"Did you get any sleep?" Dick asked and Peter shook his head.

"I have a guest room you can sleep there." Dick informed him showing him the bedroom. Peter immediately flopped on the bed and fell asleep pretty quickly.
