You walked me to my front door

Summary:

What if Eddie planned the poker night as a first date. And what if he forgot to mention it to Buck so by the time Buck drops Eddie off at home he’s confused about the flirting.

Or what I wished would have happened

Notes:

Thanks again for the ideas. Would not have thought about doing this one but I kind of like how it turned out. Hope you enjoy. Sorry if it's shit.

Work Text:

Looking back, certain things should have been made a lot clearer.

But Eddie is going to put the blame on him being out of practice, and that he was already really nervous thinking about asking Buck out on a date, and truly believes he blacked out when he was talking to Buck. Either way it is not Eddie's best moment.

It also doesn't help that the date Eddie planned was a poker night with the Chief. Mostly because he thinks Buck could have fun and he kind of wants to see Buck's "power" in action. And he knows it's probably not the best first date but he is nervous and will make sure he plans better dates after.

He's hoping for a second date.

He gets dressed in a nice suit and has to stop himself from kissing Buck and dragging him into his house and ignore the plans he made. He can't do that. Needs this to be nice. Needs to be just a good first date.

God he looks so beautiful, Eddie has to force himself to walk to Bucks jeep so they can get where they need to go. It takes a lot. Eddie can't stop staring at Buck, can't help the smile and thoughts that flood his mind. Telling himself this is happening, this is actually happening. Eddie gets this. He can finally actually have this. He just needs to make sure it goes well. Help make sure Buck has a good time after everything that has happened. And make sure that a second date is in the future. He needs it.

He can tell Buck is worried and concerned about where they are and Eddie just smirks and jokes about putting his new skills to use. They make it to the door and Eddie looks at Buck and almost leans in to a kiss. Almost can't stop himself. But the door opens and he doesn't enjoy kissing in front of others so he moves that plan to later.

They start the game and like always when it comes to poker, Eddie doesn't play for long. He's not the best but it's fun and gets him out of the house.

He thinks his new favorite thing might be watching Buck play poker. He looks happy and is excited with each win and just nods to each loss. Eddie drinks because he needs to do something. Watching Buck makes him happy, and it doesn't hurt that Buck is good looking.

Then Buck wins the game, and is asked how he wants his winnings. And god does it do things to see Buck turn around and look right at Eddie.

He has to get another drink before he embarrasses himself. He follows Buck to collect the prizes and thinks it was a good night. That it was a good first date. Not the best because again it was with to many people and they didn't exactly have a moment alone. Once the Chief walks away from them Eddie leans in closer to Buck, he smiles to himself and decides what could it really hurt and tries to go in for a kiss on the cheek.

Buck moves without seeing it. Eddie almost falls on his face. The other laughs at him. "Drink that much?"

Eddie shakes his head and they go back to the jeep and Buck drives them home. Well he is driving Eddie home. Their date is ending and Eddie needs to do something to make sure that a second date happens. The car ride is like all the others. Buck talks about new things he learned and exciting things they can do later on. Eddie feels his heart swell up. Here he was worried about not knowing if Buck wanted to continue whatever this could be, and Buck was already planning their next date.

God he wanted to kiss the other man.

They get to Eddie's and he thinks this will be it and Buck will just go home. But another surprise happens. Buck gets out of the jeep and before Eddie can even finish unbuckling his seatbelt, the door is opened for him. Eddie just stares at him.

"What?" Buck smiles, "Don't need you tripping on me again". A smile is returned and they walk up to his front door. "So how was your first poker night?"

Buck laughs, "I think it might be a one and done type deal, but you made it nice" they stop moving and just stand there. "You seem to be doing that a lot lately".

Eddie nods. "I make things nice?"

"Nice. Bearable. Pretty much all that"

Eddie blames the drinks. Blames the fact that he was so excited and nervous and didn't know any right choice to make the entire night. And really what else could he do when Buck talked about the night going well and already bringing up options for next time. He is only human.

So he kisses Buck, on the cheek. He chooses to not be embarrassed with the choice but feels he made the right choice. If Buck looks terrified from a small little peck on the cheek god only knows how he would react if Eddie kissed him on the lips.

"Not that it wasn't bad, or that I'm complaining because again "Buck says, "Not bad, not bad at all" he whispers that last part and Eddie laughs.

"But um...what...what exactly brought that on?"

Eddie laughed again, "Really?"

Buck looked confused. "Seriously Eds I mean this kind of came out of no where. Again not disagreeing with it. We will one hundred percent be talking about that again and more will be happening. As long as you want, only if you want obviously" Buck starts to ramble.

"No where?" Eddie stops him, "How did this...Buck we went on a date you had to know this might be a possibility"

Buck seemed to choke on air. "DATE!?"

"Yeah?" Eddie shrugs.

"A date. This was a date. A poker game with the Chief and other people we work with is your idea of a date?"

Eddie gives him a look. "I'm sorry?"

"You don't tell me we go on a date and then your whole plan is to get me in trouble with the Chief about cheating from counting cards because you planned a first date at poker night?" Buck laughs. Eddie is starting to get annoyed. "I know it wasn't the best idea but I was nervous"

"Jesus. No shit. Clearly you were something. My god Eddie that is your idea of a date?"

"You said that already" Eddie is about ready to walk back into his house and slam the door in Bucks face. "Anything else you need to say about my poor planning?"

Buck nods.

"Yeah. I need to teach you how a first date should be"

"Excuse me?"

"What are you doing next Friday?" Buck asks. Eddie shakes his head, "I don't think anything"

"Good now you have plans. I'm taking you out on a date and it won't be around our coworkers or Jesus our boss "Buck leans in closer, "And again I love the fact that you kissed my cheek, that night will not end with that. Because I need to show you how an actual first date should go"

Eddie can only nod. What the hell is he promising?

Buck smiles and kisses Eddie's cheek. "See you later Eds. Thanks for the fun night" and the bastard walks away and goes home.

"What the hell?" Eddie whispers.
