Chapter Text
It was 7am. Enid personally and literally pulled Divina and one of the boys out of their bed to join her and Wednesday to loot a mall. And no, it was not up for debate, even if Trent thought he should complain about it. Wednesday was already waiting outside in a car, waiting for the other three to join.
-So like, can we get a gun for looting or are you gonna let us run around unarmed so we get ourselves killed?, wondered Trent after stretching and yawning for the 100th time in the span on a minute.
-Get in the car., said Enid with a warning tone.
Finally, once everyone was in the car, Wednesday drove off and pulled out of the driveway through the gate. She made her way back to civilization. Or well, what’s left of it. During their few weeks of looting, they had somehow managed to come home injury free every single time. Yes, they had encountered some other survivors but dealt with them without having anyone get hurt. And yes, they had also stumbled upon a few infected, quickly getting rid of them with a simply bullet in their skull.
So, as planned, Wednesday made her way to the mall she had mentioned to Enid. They were aware that a lot of the things were probably already taken but there’s always something that people overlook. Just like when they went looting for mattresses for the new rooms, they then had also found hygiene products in the staff’s lockeroom.
-Not to be annoying, but I am also wondering if we’re allowed a gun., questioned Divina as she looked out the window.
-Both of you will get a 9mm. That’s it. And if you as much as dare point it at me or Wednesday, you will be found dead within seconds., warned Enid, looking back at the two.
Divina nodded, not complaining. She was just glad to have a way to defend herself if needed. She was not going to risk it. And neither was Trent. Or at least she hoped that he wasn’t.
-Wednesday, you will be looting with Trent. I will loot with Divina., said the blonde, looking at her friend.
-What? Why can’t we stick with the people we know and trust?, frowned Trent, not happy about this.
-Well, how can we learn to trust each other if we don’t spend time with one another? Would you prefer looting with me?, questioned Enid, looking back at him.
-No ma’am. I will take Wednesday- I mean, I will loot with Wednesday. Sorry, poor choice of words., said the boy awkwardly after Enid gave him a warning look.
The blonde turned back around on her seat, looking out the window and seeing the mall with its enormous parking lot. There were abandoned cars everywhere. Maybe those could also be looted. If they have the time.
-Alright. Everyone out., said Enid as she got out herself.
She made her way to the trunk and handed everyone a backpack, a flashlight and then a pistol. And of course, Enid grabbed an assault rifle that the newbies oh so kindly had given up. Once everyone was equipped, they headed to the mall.
-Never leave your partner. If you’re in danger, stick together and find the other group or a way out. We will meet here at the entrance in 1 hour. If one of the group isn’t back, the others do a quick search. If they don’t find the others, leave., explained Enid, making sure that everyone was taking her words seriously.
Once everyone agreed to it, they went their separate ways. Enid and Divina hit a tech store on the first floor. They were mainly looking for anything useful along with as many batteries as possible. Yoko had also requested for a video projected for movie nights in summer.
-What is Trent like?, asked Enid as she walked around, flashlight in her hand.
-He’s…in his own bubble. He’s a good guy. Can be a scaredy cat though. Definitely not a fighter. He’s a decent shot when it comes to target practice. But once he has to shoot anything living, he’s very hesitant., explained Divina as she walked with the blonde.
-Great. And I left Wednesday with him., sighed Enid, shaking her head.
-Would you have preferred leaving her with me?, chuckled Divina.
-Oh you would be at each other’s throat within seconds. So no., replied the blonde, shaking her head.
-Yeah, she’s not a big fan of me. I get why. Though, she also does seem to hate me more than the rest of your group. I wonder why., said the ex.
-Don’t start again., warned Enid, looking at her.
-Are you really gonna continue to deny this?, sighed Divina, looking back at her.
-How about you focus on yourself and your girlfriend?, replied the blonde, going back to looking for useful items.
-Oh so you do admit that you’d like for her to be your girlfriend., nodded Divina, smirking a little.
-I’m not gonna ask you again., warned Enid.
-Alright. Fine., sighed the ex.
But she had one more comment ready.
-I will admit. She is kinda hot. I would hit that-, started Divina.
Enid had grabbed her by the collar of her shirt, clearly not happy about what she was saying.
-One more fucking word., said the blonde with a low tone.
-There she is. That’s the Enid I know., smiled Divina.
Enid scoffed and pushed her away, turning around continuing her search for batteries and a film projector.
Meanwhile, Wednesday and Trent were looking for more hygiene products such as shower gel and toothpaste on the ground floor. They may be living in an apocalypse but that doesn’t excuse them from not caring after their hygiene.
-Grab toothbrushes for you and your friends., said Wednesday as she started putting a few toothpastes in her backpack.
Trent stayed quiet and just did as told, grabbing four toothbrushes and stuffing them in his backpack.
-Just grab anything that you think is necessary or could be useful., added the smaller girl as she continued to walk through an aisle.
She walked around, grabbing deodorant, pads, wet wipes and some other things, adding them to her loot in her backpack. Suddenly, Wednesday heard a noise on the opposite aisle. She looked at Trent who was already locking eyes with her. She took her gun out and quietly moved to the noise, trying to find the source of it. She then saw something moving on the floor under rolls of toilet paper that had clearly been left behind. Wednesday approached it and carefully removed a roll. As she did so, she saw something fly by her. A bird. She sighed out of relief, not sure what she had expected. She looked at Trent, seeing the terror in his eyes.
-It’s fine. False alarm., said the smaller girl.
But his eyes stayed fixated on something. Wednesday followed his gaze with her flashlight, shining light on the floor a foot away from the toilet paper. Blood. Fresh blood. There was blood everywhere. On the floor, on the shelves, on the fucking ceiling, dripping down. How? She looked at Trent, about to speak, but suddenly saw a shadow behind him.
-Run., said Wednesday quickly.
