Chapter Text
Sun hummed happily as he cleaned, taking the bottle of disinfectant that his sister handed him with a cheerful “Thank you!” before he continued to wipe down the plush wall surrounding the colored square play area. It was a rough day at work where so many messes had been made, but that didn’t matter! Solar had asked to take him out to dinner once they were both done with the day! With everything that had been going on in their lives it had been ages since they had been on a date!
Earth giggled next to him as she helped wipe the playmats. “You’re in a good mood. You must be really excited for your date.”
“I am!” He exclaimed, rays wiggling in excitement. “He hasn’t told me where he’s taking me yet, but he said he got the reservations a while ago. Asked me to wear my red dress with the off the shoulder sleeves.”
“The sparkly one or the one where it does the layered frills around the top and sleeves?”
“Sparkly with the thigh slit.”
“Oooo, that means it’s extra fancy~ I wonder if he’s going to also dress up? I know he went shopping with Monty recently.”
He couldn’t help but blush at the thought of Solar dressing up for him. As far as he was aware, the mechanic didn’t have any fancy clothing since he preferred to be comfortable and ready to work if needed. If he ever did dress up, then it would have to be an extremely important occasion with a guarantee that no one would be needing him for the rest of the night.
It couldn’t have been the anniversary of him moving to their dimension since that had still been a month away at that point, and he already had something nice planned for that evening. Was it just because things were going so well lately? No, there wouldn’t have been time to get reservations then. Monty apparently knew so it was likely somewhere hard to get into. And he had been asked to wear his fanciest dress.
“You know, if you want to go home to get ready early, I could finish up here.”
He looked to his sister in surprise. “Are you sure? The kids made such a big mess today.”
Earth smiled at him and nodded. “I’m sure. I’ll call Lunar to help if I really need it, and you need to go take a shower. Don’t want to smell like the daycare on your fancy date. Also don’t worry about Dazzle or Jack tonight. They’re coming home with me and we’re having a movie night with Nebula.”
Sun smiled brightly and threw his arms around his sister to hug her. “You’re the best, Earth! I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow, ok?”
She laughed and hugged him back before letting go. “You better! Now Go! You don’t want to be late!”
He nodded before he went out to his car and drove home. He had a lot of work to do! First things first was of course to hop in the shower to get clean!
As he washed away all of the mess and ick of the long day, getting the bits of glue and glitter out from between his finger joints, he formed a to-do list in his head. He would, of course, have to gather the laundry from the different rooms to get a load started so he could have his pants clean for the next day. From what he knew, Dazzle’s favorite dress had gotten a juice spill on it the other day so it was the perfect time to get that worked on. He would also have to make sure that the kids had everything ready for a night at Earth’s place.
Oh! Would it be a good idea if he wore makeup? Sun didn’t wear it often, especially since the only brands made that worked for animatronics were made by Fazbear and were far too expensive for the quality, and the palettes tended to not be suited for his color scheme. But, Earth did manage to get a special ordered one for him through Monty, which he had been incredibly thankful for. It came in handy if they ever wanted to have a dress-up night. But then, that begged the question: what shade of lipstick should he pick? He had one that was sunset orange and another that was more of a rose red. The red one would match the dress, but he worried if it would be too much?
He would have to call Earth for advice.
The sound of drawers opening in his room made Sun confused for a moment, so he looked towards the bathroom door. Had Solar gotten home early as well? He would have to hurry with his shower then so his partner could have a turn.
“I’ll be out in a moment! I’ll save you some hot water!” He called towards their shared room before he turned off the water and grabbed his towel. Since he hadn’t expected anyone to be home yet, he hadn’t brought his change of clothes in with him, meaning he had to wrap a fluffy towel around himself as he got out and made his way to the door.
When he opened it, he didn’t see anyone. Their shared room was empty, and the only thing out of place was his last clean work uniform. He didn’t remember leaving it out, and he doubted Solar would have gotten it out since he had asked for a dress. Where was his boyfriend?
Sun felt uneasy as he looked around, now nervous about what he heard. If it wasn’t Solar, who would have been in his room? Why would they go through the trouble of getting out his uniform? Even the bells and ruffles had been placed neatly next to the jester pants. Did someone want him to wear it?
He needed to call someone. Anyone. His anxiety grew stronger as he called his partner, needing to at least know if it actually was him or not. He paced, clutching his towel closer to himself as he waited and whispered to himself. “Pick up, pick up, pick up, please pick up.”
When Solar picked up, he could hear the sounds of the theater overhead music playing in the background, causing a cold feeling to form in his chest. “Sun? What’s up? Earth told me you went home early to get ready.”
“w-Were you just in our room?” He asked in a shaky voice.
“No? Sun, are you okay? What’s wrong?”
He whimpered as he looked around. It sounded like there was movement behind the door that led to the upstairs hall. “s-Someone’s in the house.”
“What? Are you sure?”
“Yes I’m sure!” He hiss whispered into the receiver, keeping his eyes on the door as he backed away from it. “Please come home, or send Moon home.”
“I’m already letting Moon know and I’m setting a portal down.” Solar promised. “Just stay on the line, okay? I’m on my way.”
“Please hurry.” The attendant whimpered again, looking at the clothes on the bed. Would it be better to just get into the pants at least so he had something to cover himself?
Before he could do anything Sun felt shocking pain shoot across his body from the back of his faceplate, causing a scream of agony to rip through his voice box. He could vaguely hear Solar calling his name from downstairs, but he couldn’t call back as the pain soon became too much and he fell unconscious.
