Work Text:

Squiddo is trapped. Unfortunately, she has no clue where she is.

Limbo, Hell, The In Between, whatever it is, its freezing.

Even her cardigan, a gift to her from Ash, in between two wars does nothing to block out the windchill that howls in her ears. There's still a bit of soot and ash staining the sunny orange wool, engulfing it in an aroma of smoke.

The edges are teared and burnt, stained by blood. Most of it is Squiddo's, and even now, after it's all over, she doesn't know quite how to feel about that.

Even so, it's the only thing that holds any color now. The rest of the dreary landscape is a pallid gray, a far mimicry of the actual hills where her friends, her allies where buried (or at the very least, whatever would substitute a proper cadaver) and carved, messy headstones sits on the ground above them.

All Squiddo had wanted was to protect her friends.

She never wanted a war.

An achingly familiar voice tells her that the war was inevitable, that surely she could've predicted this.

"They all died. Are they like this, and stuck in some…in what ever you'd call this?" scowls Squiddo, tugging the sleeves of her cardigan over her hands to hide them from the cold. Her voice shakes, out of anger more then fear. At least it's easy enough to pretend it's from the cold "Or are they in a glitched out grave, because I couldn't make them immortal."

"A small detail," hums the voice, echoing from the sky "Why didn't you make them immortal? You could've managed it"

"Clown would've noticed, someone would've found out. I couldn't risk it" Squiddo protests. In the silence that follows, she adds "They knew I was immortal. And they targeted the ones who weren't immortal! I could never have saved them. Even I died!"

"It was the end. You know that" the voice replies, trying to pacify her.

"I didn't want it to end! That was the whole point!" Squiddo chokes out in between grief, wiping away tears with the bloodied edges of her sweater.

She needs to fix it.

Fix everything.

No more immortality, no more trying to take what will only result in a bloody war.

Next time, Squiddo decides that they just want peace.

Protect themselves from any threat, at any cost.

There are rules on the Lifesteal server for a reason; No Enderpearls, Once you loose all your hearts you're gone, and the unspoken mantra that had gone ignored by Squiddo.

Don't trust anyone, and don't get attached.
