They were all chatting amongst each other in glee, just as they always were when he first heard and sensed it. Before he could even address it, a cabinet swung open, and a little girl tumbled out with a startled yelp. She glanced up at everyone, wide-eyed and confused, before cowering and retreating to the corner of the kitchen, clearly frightened.
His Nakama were a rowdy bunch. People would not hesitate to call them deafeningly loud if they weren’t trying to be at least a little respectful. He was aware of that, and he’d even admit that he could be loud himself at times. But he also recognized a scared child when he saw one.
