Til The Evening

Summary:

Fuma always thought mating was a duty, that it was something alphas did for status, for appearance, or for their parents. He spent too long tangled in doubt, afraid of what it meant to be an alpha who wanted another alpha. But when he's with Kei, everything feels different - like finding something solid to hold onto after drifting for so long.

Now that they’ve graduated, the two alphas are ready to make good on their promise to each other: to exchanged bites and mate, to build a pack of their own, and to write a future that doesn’t follow anyone’s rules but theirs.

Work Text:

The soccer field had never looked like this before. Usually, it was where teams practiced, where students cut across to get to their classes faster, and where people sat on the bleachers with sandwiches or played pick-up soccer games in the fading afternoon light. But today it was transformed with rows and rows of white chairs stretched across the freshly cut grass, filled with students in gowns and caps that gleamed in the late spring sun. A temporary stage had been built at the front, draped in the school’s colors, banners fluttering lazily in the warm breeze. The bleachers were packed with families and friends, all craning their necks for a glimpse of someone they loved.

Fuma sat near the middle of it all, his gown uncomfortably warm under the clear sky, the heavy cap tugging at his hair. He tugged at his collar, the press of summer heat prickling against his neck, but he didn’t complain. Because despite the stuffiness, despite the itch of the gown and the roar of the crowd, it was a good day. Kei sat rows ahead of him but even from where he sat, Fuma could spot him easily in the sea of caps and robes. His broad shoulders, his long torso and even his laugh carried across the field. He was grinning at something one of his teammates said, all relaxed charm and easy warmth.

The ceremony had unfolded in the usual predictable order with welcomes from the dean, speeches from department heads, the usual canned anecdotes about hard work and perseverance. Fuma zoned out for most of it, only half-listening, the drone of the microphone mixing with the restless buzz of the crowd until they called the valedictorian to the stage. Fuma blinked back to attention as a familiar name rang out across the field.

“Koga Yudai”

The noise that followed was loud. It wasn’t just the polite applause the other speakers had gotten - it was the kind of wild, unfiltered cheering that rolled through the crowd like a wave. The soccer team was on their feet, whistling and hollering. Their friends, scattered across different departments, shouted his name. Even students from outside their circle stood, clapping hard, some stomping their feet on the ground in approval. Nothing too surprising for the most popular alpha on campus.

Fuma clapped loudly, his hands stinging from the force of it but he stayed in his seat, heart pounding a little harder than he wanted to admit. Kei adjusted his gown as he climbed the stage steps two at a time, waving as his family screamed his name from somewhere high up in the stands. He looked annoyingly good up there, beaming, drenched in sunlight and love.

He adjusted the microphone to sit up higher so he didn’t have to slouch over it, and he cleared his throat as the cheering died down. From up there, the field looked like a sea of black caps and restless bodies. The heat shimmered off the stage, the smell of freshly cut grass mixing with the hint of sunscreen and excitement.

“Uh... hi. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Kei,” he began, voice carrying clear. “And apparently someone thought it was a good idea to give me a microphone and tell me to give the valedictorian speech. So… here we are.”

A few laughs rippled through the crowd, easing the room.

“I guess I should start by saying… these past four years have been some of the hardest, strangest, and honestly, most amazing years of my life. When I first came to this school, I had no idea what I was doing. I was a scrawny, loud-mouthed alpha freshman who thought I already had it all figured out.” Another round of soft laughter and Kei smiled, brushing a hand through his hair as he glanced down at his notes, then back up again. “I didn’t. Not even close.”

He exhaled, smile lingering. “But somewhere along the way, I found my place. On the field. In the classroom. Even in the library too, shockingly I know. And most importantly… I found my place with the people who stuck by me through it all.”

His gaze flickered outward, scanning the crowd, finding Fuma and holding just a second longer than necessary, their eyes locking in something quiet and unspoken.

“Most of you know me as the captain of the soccer team. And yeah, it’s been a wild ride. This year, we won the championship for the first time in six years.” Cheers erupted again, some of the loudest coming from the team seated together in the rows near the front, fists pumping in the air. “Yeah, yeah, I see you guys. But the truth is… I couldn’t have done any of that alone. It wasn’t just me. It was never just me. It was my team. My friends. The people who pushed me, supported me, and kept me grounded when things got rough. Who believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself.”

“I know this is the part where I’m supposed to say something profound about the future, but honestly? I think the future’s gonna take care of itself. What matters is the people you bring with you into it. The ones who feel like home. The ones who make you better. I’m lucky. I’ve already found mine.”

Kei’s smile lingered as the crowd clapped, cheers rising again now that the tension of speeches was finally breaking into celebration. He leaned back into the microphone one last time, his voice softening into something sincere, almost personal, as if he wasn’t speaking to hundreds, but to each person, one by one.

“I’ll finish by saying... I hope all of you find your people, too,” Kei said, eyes sweeping across the field, lingering on his friends, on his team, on Fuma - always Fuma. “I hope you find what makes you feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. And whatever path you take from here... I wish you all success. And more importantly… happiness.”

There was a swell of clapping again, the kind that wasn’t just obligatory but filled with warmth, students and families alike standing to applaud. Kei stepped back from the mic, dipping his head politely as he made his way off the stage and back to his seat.

Fuma and Kei had talked about what came next, about how this graduation wasn’t just the end of something, it was the beginning of everything else. And when this day ended, when the celebrations calmed and their caps were tucked away, they’d finally be free to take that next step. Just the two of them. No more waiting. No more distractions. Just the life they had always imagined - starting with the promise they had both been ready to make for a long time. As Kei sat back down, the announcer returned to the podium, adjusting the mic as the applause died down.

“And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…” the announcer said, shuffling a stack of cards, his voice light and teasing. “We will now begin calling graduates to receive their diplomas. We will be starting by last name, in alphabetical order.”

The rows shifted with a ripple of fabric and anticipation as the first section stood and began filing toward the stage. The announcer began working through the list of graduates, their voices clear and practiced, names echoing over the field one after another, blending into the rhythmic pattern of clapping, cheering, the shuffle of gowns against chairs.

Chan’s row was among the first. Fuma grinned as he watched his friend make his way toward the stage. Chan turned as he reached the stairs, giving their group a little salute that made a few students whistle and laugh. He crossed the stage with a swagger, grinning wide as his name was called. His parents, somewhere near the middle of the stands, shouted loud enough to make heads turn. Chan pumped his fist in the air as he accepted his diploma, his confidence as loud and easy as ever. Fuma shook his head fondly.

Not long after, Kei’s row was called. Fuma sat up a little straighter without meaning to, eyes following the familiar figure as Kei rose from his seat, smoothing out his gown. The other students in his row gave him playful nudges and backslaps as they filed into line, and Kei took it all with that same easy grin, laughing, brushing his hair back out of his eyes. Even after the speech, the alpha still looked relaxed. Like the stage was just another field to him, and this was just another victory lap.

When his name boomed over the speakers - "Koga Yudai" - the crowd erupted all over again. Fuma barely heard the announcer’s voice over the roar of the crowd, over the sharp, enthusiastic cheers of the soccer team, over Kei’s parents yelling his name like he was a celebrity as the older alpha crossed the stage. The noise faded into the background, muffled by the way his pulse roared in his ears. All he could see was Kei. Kei in his gown and cap, walking like he owned the stage - like he belonged there, in the sunlight, in the center of it all. Confident. Smiling in that perfect, but effortless way that made people want to cheer louder, lean in closer, feel like they were part of the gravity that seemed to hang around him naturally. And for a brief, breathless moment, Fuma’s world narrowed to just that sight. That boy. That alpha. His alpha. The thought hit him hard, raw and unshakable, right in the center of his chest.

He’s going to be my mate soon. The words echoed like a vow.

Fuma swallowed hard, the realization settling over him like a heavy, weighted blanket. There’d been moments before - moments in the quiet, in the touches they shared, the looks that lingered a second too long - but seeing Kei like this? Lit by the sun, loved by the crowd, standing tall and proud in front of everyone? Fuma wanted to claim him. Not out of jealousy. Not because others were looking. But because he wanted to give Kei the kind of love that matched how the world saw him. Loud. Unapologetic. Permanent.

The crowd’s cheering roared back into focus as Kei stepped down from the stage, still smiling, still waving, his diploma held loosely at his side. Fuma clapped because that’s what he was supposed to do - but his hands felt numb, his throat tight. The thought of mating Kei didn’t feel scary.  It didn’t feel like something they might do one day, far off in the future. It felt like something that was coming fast.  And when it came, Fuma knew he wouldn’t run from it. He’d run toward it. Toward him.

As Kei returned to his seat, the announcer kept calling rows, the flow of students moving like a slow, winding river. Fuma’s row wouldn’t be for a while still, but somehow... he didn’t mind. Because watching his friends cross that stage, one by one, hearing their names echo through the air, it felt like something sacred. It felt like the end of something huge. And the start of something bigger.

The ceremony rolled on, names called like waves crashing steadily against the shore of the day. A few more rows stood. He barely noticed until Hyunjae’s name rang out over the speakers.

“Lee Hyunjae!”

Fuma smiled as the buff alpha strode across the stage, grinning like he owned the place, his tassel bouncing with every cocky step. He paused in the middle for a little flourish - a mock bow that earned whistles from their section of friends. Right after him was Juyeon.

Juyeon’s walk was less showy, but the smile on his face was bright and real, his parents clapping proudly from somewhere in the crowd. He waved to them as he accepted his diploma, his face glowing like the boy who always tried to act too cool but never quite managed to hide how much he cared. Then came Minho. The most laid-back of them all, Minho took his time, walking slow, giving a lazy peace sign to the crowd, earning laughter and applause.

Kevin’s row was called next. Fuma cracked a grin as the beta stumbled theatrically on the steps, only to recover with an exaggerated pose, his arms wide open like he was soaking up the attention. Always the entertainer. The crowd ate it up. Kevin beamed, his hair shining under the sunlight, and Fuma felt a pang of affection watching him bow toward his family, his little sister clapping furiously in the stands.

One by one, they were all crossing the stage. One by one, their lives were shifting forward. And then, finally, it was his turn. Fuma’s row stood with the familiar shuffle of fabric and rustle of feet. The announcer’s voice echoed across the field, the names before his blurring into static as his own name loomed closer. His breath caught in his throat as he stepped into line.

Murata Fuma.

He heard it before he was ready. The sound of it split through the field, rolling over the sea of chairs and faces, hanging there like a challenge. Fuma stepped forward. He didn’t expect much. He knew the drill - you weren’t really supposed to cheer, but everyone did anyway. He wasn’t expecting the noise. Because even though his parents weren’t in the stands, and even though he hadn’t spoken to them since winter - since that terrible night when they told him to choose between them or Kei, and he chose Kei without hesitation - he wasn’t walking alone. Yui’s voice was the first he heard.

“That’s my brother!” she shouted from the middle of the stands, her toddler daughter clapping her tiny hands beside her, giggling because everyone else was clapping too. And then, like a spark in dry grass, it spread. Kei’s family joined in, cheering his name like he was one of theirs. Hyunjae. Juyeon. Minho. Kevin. Chan. All of them shouting for him, not a trace of hesitation in their voices. And Fuma’s chest tightened so hard he thought it might crack open.

He walked across the stage with his head high, even though his throat burned and his hands trembled just a little. The diploma felt heavier in his grip than he expected. Like it carried more than just four years of work - like it carried the weight of every step he’d taken to get here without the people who were supposed to love him standing in the crowd.

There were nights it still sank its claws into him, those old wounds aching in the dark, the hollow space where his parents’ approval should’ve been. But right now, in the middle of the field, with the sun on his back and his friends screaming his name like it mattered, with Kei standing off to the side smiling like Fuma hung the stars ... he wasn’t alone. He had people who loved him exactly as he was. People who saw him and chose him, always and unconditionally.

He took his diploma, dipped his head to the dean, and turned to walk off the stage. Fuma sat back down, his diploma clutched tightly in his lap, the glossy cover still warm from his hands. Before he knew it, the final name was called, the crowd erupted again, and the dean returned to the podium, voice booming one last time across the field.

“Congratulations to the graduating class!” And then the moment everyone was waiting for. “Tassels to the left.”
Fuma barely had time to adjust his tassel before the sky exploded in a chaos of flying caps. Around him, hundreds of students - his classmates, his friends, strangers he’d passed in hallways - threw their caps into the air with shouts of triumph, laughter, and wild cheers. The caps arched high above them, silhouetted against the sharp blue of the late spring sky, spinning like black confetti. Fuma tossed his up too, the motion automatic.

For a split second, as the cap soared, he felt like he tossed everything up there with it. All the weight of the last four years.  All the exhaustion.  All the versions of himself he’d outgrown. It all flew up, into the wide-open sky. The field had dissolved into chaos. Caps littered the grass, students scattered in all directions, families spilling from the bleachers onto the field like a flood of voices and open arms. It was all noise - shouts, laughter, music crackling from the speakers, the steady click of cameras trying to capture it all before the moment slipped away.

In the sea of bodies, Fuma turned - and realized Kei was gone. He scanned the crowd, catching flashes of familiar faces - Kevin wrestling Hyunjae into a sweaty hug, Chan grinning ear to ear as his parents fussed over his gown. But no Kei. Fuma swallowed down the flicker of disappointment that rose in his chest. Of course, the alpha was being pulled in every direction. He was Kei. Everyone wanted a piece of him today. Fuma tugged at the collar of his gown and turned to look for an escape from the crush of bodies.

“Fuma!”

He barely had time to react before his sister and her small family crashed into him like a tidal wave. Yui threw her arms around his shoulders, squeezing him tight, her mate right behind her, and their toddler daughter in his arms squealing “Fufu!”

Fuma stumbled back, breath catching in his throat, the ache of missing family dulling slightly under the warmth of his sister’s embrace.

“You did it!” Yui beamed, pulling back just enough to look at him, tears already gathering in her eyes. “God, Fuma, I’m so proud of you.”

Fuma’s chest tightened. He blinked fast, the lump in his throat stubborn and heavy. “I - I guess I did,” he managed, voice rougher than he wanted it to be.

Her mate, Minjun, clapped him hard on the back, grinning wide. “We were yelling the loudest. Pretty sure the whole crowd heard us.”

Fuma smiled faintly. “Yeah, I heard you.”

His niece reached out her chubby little arms for him and Fuma took her without hesitation, cradling her close against his chest. Hina smelled like sunscreen and crackers and the faintest hint of Yui’s scent.

“Say hi to your uncle,” Yui said softly, brushing her daughter’s hair out of her face. The little girl giggled and grabbed a fistful of Fuma’s gown, tugging at it.

Fuma barely had a chance to catch his breath before Yui was dragging him by the sleeve toward a patch of grass off to the side of the chaos, determined to get at least a few proper photos before the crowd swallowed them up again.

“Come on, stand there,” she insisted, positioning him like he was one of her clients, even though she was clearly using her digital camera that she swore was better than any phone camera out there. Fuma rolled his eyes but let her. He knew better than to argue when she got like this.

“Fix your cap,” Yui scolded, reaching up to adjust it herself even though it had already been knocked crooked by their earlier hugs. “There. Perfect.”

Minjun chuckled as he stood beside them, their daughter still perched on Fuma’s hip. The toddler tugged at his tassel, delighted when it swung, making Fuma laugh under his breath. The camera clicked.

Yui snapped photo after photo - Fuma with her, then with her mate, then the three of them together, the little one wedged between them like a happy sandwich. Fuma tried to scowl dramatically for at least one shot, but his niece grabbed his face between her tiny hands and squished his cheeks together, making him break into helpless laughter.

“Okay, okay,” Yui grinned, looking at the screen. “Now just you and her again. You two are so cute"

Fuma shifted his niece more securely onto his hip, her little hands tangled in his gown. She grinned up at him, cheeks flushed and eyes bright. Fuma smiled down at her, brushing a curl off her forehead. Click. Yui finally put the camera back in her purse, satisfied with the flood of photos now clogging her SD card. She adjusted her daughter’s sunhat before turning her attention back to Fuma, that big-sister gleam back in her eyes - the one that always meant trouble.

“So,” she started, leaning into him conspiratorially. “What’s next for you and Kei? Got any romantic post-grad plans? Or are you two just going to hole up in your apartment like old men?”

Fuma chuckled, shifting his niece a little higher on his hip. “Actually... I planned something.”

“Oh?” Yui tilted her head, interest piqued immediately.

“Yeah,” he said, allowing a rare grin to tug at the corners of his mouth. “I booked us a trip. Just the two of us. Beach town. A week away from everything.”

Yui’s smile widened, her eyes narrowing in that smug, knowing way only older sisters could pull off. “Ohh. A little lovers’ getaway?”

Fuma rolled his eyes, but he didn’t deny it. “Maybe.”

Yui elbowed him playfully. “You’re so predictable, Fuma. Let me guess - you booked the place, planned the itinerary, packed snacks, and overthought everything down to the toothbrushes?”

“You know me.” Fuma laughed, not even embarrassed.

“I do,” Yui said, her tone softening now, warmth bleeding into her teasing. “And you deserve this. Both of you.”

Fuma’s grin lingered, a little sheepish. “I just want him to have a break, you know? After everything.”

Yui’s gaze turned fond, almost misty. “You’re doing good, little brother.”

In that moment, with the summer sun on his back, his niece giggling against his chest, and his sister’s hand squeezing his shoulder, Fuma realized he wasn’t just doing good. He was doing right. And soon, when they left for that trip, when it was just him and Kei and the ocean, he’d show Kei exactly how serious he was about the life they were building together. Yui saw the glint in his eye, the way his smile tipped toward something private and sure.

“God, you’re disgusting,” she teased, shaking her head fondly as she took Hina back.

Fuma just laughed, cheeks flushing warm. “Yeah. Guess I am.”

One second, he was still chuckling with Yui, cheeks warm from her teasing. The next, a familiar scent of amber and cedarwood hit him. Before he could turn, he was already being yanked by the front of his gown and tugged into a firm, unapologetic kiss. Fuma let out a muffled sound of surprise, eyes wide for a second before fluttering closed. His hands instinctively found the front of Kei’s chest, gripping his gown lightly, the kiss deep and quick and full of barely-contained pride.

The noise of the crowd, the clatter of cameras, the hum of conversation - it all dimmed, collapsing into nothing but the press of Kei’s mouth against his. He could feel curve of his boyfriends smile against his lips. The way his fingers tangled in the folds of his gown, tugging him closer like the entire field wasn’t watching.

There was a loud click as Yui, of course, snapped a photo like they were still at a photo shoot. But Fuma couldn’t care less. When Kei finally pulled back, his grin was smug, and teasing, the kind of look that always made Fuma want to punch him and kiss him in the same breath.

“Couldn’t help it,” he said with a shrug, like that made it perfectly reasonable to kiss Fuma breathless in front of a crowd. “You looked too good in your cap and gown.”

The younger alpha flushed, his scent warming and his ears burning as he glanced nervously at his sister but Yui just grinned, arms crossed and expression smug.

“Oh, don’t mind me,” she said sweetly. “You two are cute. Almost nauseating, but cute.”

Kei turned to her, unfazed. “Hi, Yui.”

“Hi, Kei,” she replied, leaning in to give him a quick hug. “Congratulations, graduate. Valedictorian and championship-winning captain? You really had to show off, huh?”

“You know me,” Kei laughed, then reached for Fuma again, keeping a hand on his waist like he just couldn’t not be touching him.

Then, as if remembering something urgent, Yui gasped dramatically. “Oh! Wait - hold on -” She rummaged through her oversized purse, the sound of crinkling receipts and clinking keys filling the air until she pulled out a plain white envelope and thrust it toward Fuma.

“Almost forgot,” she said, grinning. “Graduation gift.”

Fuma’s brows shot up. “Yui, seriously, you didn’t have to -”

“I did have to.” She cut him off, waving the envelope insistently in his face. “Take it.”

Fuma tried again, hands half-raised in protest. “Come on, we’re adults now. You have a family to take care of, you don’t have to.”

Yui rolled her eyes so hard he was surprised they didn't roll out of her head.

“Don’t start with me, Fuma,” she warned. “It’s from me and Minjun, and if you think I’m letting my little brother graduate university without a gift from his family, you’re dumber than you look.”

Kei choked on a laugh and Fuma scowled at him before sighing in surrender, reluctantly taking the envelope. It was heavier than he expected which meant it was definitely cash.

“Yui…” His voice softened, some of the fight slipping out of him. “Really. You didn’t need to.”

“I wanted to,” she corrected, her smile softening into something gentler. “Consider it an investment. In you. In your future. Maybe use it on that trip you’re whisking Kei off to. Wherever it is, you two deserve it.”

Fuma held the envelope a little tighter, the weight of it sinking deeper than just the money inside. He ducked his head, mumbling a gruff, “Thanks, Yui.”

Kei looped an arm around his shoulders, pressing a kiss to his temple like he couldn’t help himself. And for a moment, under the glow of the setting sun and the roar of the celebrating crowd around them, Fuma felt like the richest man alive.

They didn’t have much time to breathe before Kei’s family found them next, weaving through the crowd, still flushed from the chaos of the ceremony and their own celebrations. Fuma spotted Kei’s mother first, waving enthusiastically as she all but ran the last few steps, her husband and Kei’s older brother right behind her.

“There you two are!” she called, grinning from ear to ear.

Fuma barely had time to process the hug before she was pulling back to hold his face in both hands, inspecting him like he was her own. “Congratulations, sweetheart! We were all cheering for you. You looked so handsome up there.”

“You made us proud, kid.” Mr. Koga laughed, clapping Fuma hard on the back.

Fuma blinked, his throat tightening unexpectedly. They’d always been this way - welcoming, warm, treating him like one of theirs even back in the early days when it was just friendship. But now... it hit differently.

Yui insisted on taking more photos, quickly turning on her camera again. She pushed Kei and Fuma back together. “Smile, graduate,” she teased.

“I am smiling.”

“Smile more.”

Fuma rolled his eyes but smiled wider anyway. Then they took some with Kei’s parents, and even made someone walking by take a photo of the group together. The camera flashed again.

Then someone called out, “Okay, just you two now!”

Fuma blinked. “Us?”

“Yes, you and Yudai! Come on!”

Kei didn’t wait, he grabbed Fuma’s hand and gently pulled him into the center of the frame. Fuma laughed, caught somewhere between embarrassed and thrilled, the kind of laugh that crinkled the corners of his eyes and left him a little breathless. Kei grinned wide beside him, then leaned in at the last second to kiss his cheek. Click.

It wasn’t long after when their friends found them.  Juyeon and Hyunjae came bounding over, both with tassels askew and grins too big for their faces. Kevin followed, looking like he might cry. Chan and Minho brought up the rear, arms draped around each other like they’d already started celebrating with a flask no one wanted to ask about.

“We have to get a photo of all of us,” Kevin insisted, already lining people up. And so, they did. All seven of them, side by side in their graduation gowns, arms thrown over shoulders, faces lit with pride and joy and something deeper. The camera clicked one last time and this time, they all laughed in unison - loud, and entirely unguarded. A perfect moment, frozen in time.

Just as Fuma was starting to think they could quietly slip away, maybe sneak off before the crowd thinned too much, Mrs. Koga reappeared, her eyes bright with mischief and something just a little too rehearsed in her smile.

“We’re not letting you leave without dinner,” she announced. “We booked a private room at The Briarhouse.”

Fuma blinked. “Wait, that fancy place with the wood-fired pizza and a dress code?”

“Don’t worry,” Kei’s mom grinned. “You’re already dressed. Come on, we have the room until eight.”

Kei turned to him, chuckling under his breath. “You thought we were getting out of here early, huh?”

Fuma mock-sighed but couldn’t hold back the smile tugging at his lips. “I’m too tired to argue. But only if they have dessert.”

“But of course,” Kei said, tugging him gently by the hand. “You’re gonna love it.”

The restaurant was tucked on a quiet side street off campus, with tall arched windows and a sign painted in warm gold script. The private room was intimate - soft lighting, a large round table, and a view of the twilight sky through frosted glass.

Dinner unfolded warm and easy - a long table filled with laughter and gentle teasing, drinks being poured, plates passed back and forth, and stories about childhoods that left Fuma red in the face and Kei grumbling into his wine glass. Yui and Mrs. Koga hit it off immediately, bonding over raising stubborn children and swapping stories while their mates watched with identical, patient smiles. At some point, someone raised a glass.

“Here’s to the graduates,” Mr. Koga said, his voice steady but shining with emotion. “To the endings they worked hard to reach, and to the beginnings they now get to choose for themselves.”

Fuma looked at Kei. In the dim light of the restaurant, cheeks still flushed from laughter, eyes full of love, Kei looked like everything Fuma had never dared to want. And now, everything he had. They clinked their glasses together quietly.

Dessert came in the form of mini sundaes, each in delicate glass dishes, topped with thick whipped cream and curls of dark chocolate. By then, the mood had shifted from celebratory to soft - bellies full, conversations quieter, and the kind of content warmth that settled into the bones when surrounded by people who felt like home. Kei leaned back in his chair, one arm draped comfortably over Fuma’s seat, the other gently steadying Hina on his lap. She had loudly insisted that “uncle K" was sharing his sundae, and Kei, amused and only pretending to resist, had pulled her into his lap and handed her the spoon like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Fuma watched them, his chest tightening in a way that had nothing to do with sugar. Kei scooped up a bite of ice cream and offered it to the toddler, who squealed in delight, taking it before clumsily trying to return the favor by scooping one back for him. Somehow, it ended up more on his chin than in his mouth. Fuma laughed as Kei wiped his face with a napkin, grinning down at her with so much patience, so much affection, that it made something in Fuma’s heart ache in the best way. He smiled, letting the warmth settle into his chest as he reached under the table and laced his fingers quietly with his boyfriends. Kei looked up at him - just for a moment - and his smile softened too.

The suitcases were lined up by the door, one large and well-used, the other sleek and brand-new curtsey of Kei’s last-minute online splurge after realizing Fuma didn’t own anything that didn’t have a broken zipper. The older alpha was currently sprawled on the couch, one arm tossed dramatically over his eyes, the other draped across the back cushions as he rattled off another list of increasingly absurd guesses.

“Okay, hear me out,” he said, voice muffled with feigned seriousness. “What if we’re going camping, but like… luxury camping. With plumbing. And a hot tub. Glamping?”

“Nope.” Fuma snorted from where he was folding one last hoodie into his bag.

Kei lifted his head just enough to pout. “You’re enjoying this way too much. You really aren’t going to tell me where we’re going?”

“I am,” Fuma agreed shamelessly, zipping up the suitcase. “I’ve planned every single detail and you, my dear future mate, get to just show up and be surprised.”

Kei groaned dramatically. “That’s so unfair. You know I hate surprises.”

“No, you hate not being in control.”

“Same thing!”

Fuma smirked, dragging the suitcases toward the door. “We leave in the morning, so you’ve got twelve more hours to stress about it. Better make ‘em count.”

Kei flopped backward onto the cushions again with a muffled groan, then peeked one eye open. “Okay, at least tell me this - is it cold? Should I pack layers?”

“You won’t need layers,” Fuma replied, trying to keep a straight face.

Kei narrowed his eyes. “So, it’s warm. Tropical?”

“I didn’t say tropical.”

“You didn’t deny it.”

“Go pack your sunglasses and shut up.”

Kei sat up with a grin, clearly enjoying the challenge now. “I’m going to solve this mystery, you know. I’m smart. I watch dramas.”

Fuma leaned over, planting a kiss on the top of his head. “Just be ready to relax, okay? That’s all you need to know.”

Kei looked up at him, eyes softening despite the playful banter. “With you? I’m always ready.”

The morning air was fresh and still tinged with spring as they packed the last of their things into Kei’s car, the dark gray paint already warming under the sun. Fuma double-checked the cooler he’d filled with drinks and snacks - cut fruit, bottled iced coffee, and a few bento boxes he’d prepared late last night while Kei napped on the couch like a cat in a sunbeam. The older alpha yawned into his hoodie sleeve as he dropped their bags into the backseat.

“You sure I’m not driving?” he mumbled, squinting through sleep-heavy eyes.

Fuma raised an eyebrow and tossed him a granola bar. “You can drive us back. Today I’m in charge.”

“Control freak,” Kei muttered around a bite of oats and honey.

“Say that again and I’m throwing your sandals out the window halfway there.”

Kei snorted and raised his hands in surrender, sliding into the passenger seat while Fuma climbed into the driver’s side, adjusting the seat a few clicks forward. The GPS said an hour, maybe less but they had no plans to rush.

The route Fuma chose curved through rolling hills, a few stretches of road lined by trees heavy with early green leaves, others that opened into wide fields blooming with wildflowers that looked like they belonged in a painting. Kei rolled the windows down, sunglasses perched on his nose, one arm resting on the open ledge, the wind teasing through his hair.

“This is already perfect,” he murmured after a while, the breeze carrying his voice gently across the car.

Fuma smiled, glancing at him before returning his eyes to the road. “You haven’t even seen where we’re going yet.”

“I don’t need to,” Kei replied. “I’ve got you, and there’s good coffee in the cooler. That’s my idea of luxury.”

They stopped once, then twice - first to take photos on a small lookout that overlooked the water, and then again when Kei spotted a sunflower field and demanded a photo. They took turns posing in front of the view, then snapped one together - Fuma’s arm looped around Kei’s waist, Kei’s head tipping toward his shoulder.

The sky stretched endlessly above them, the clouds sparse and fluffy, the sea glimmering faintly in the distance. Kei reached across the console at one point to thread his fingers through Fuma’s, resting their joined hands on his thigh. Fuma gave his hand a soft squeeze. They were almost there now.

The road curved one final time along the edge of a low hill, and as the car crested the rise, the town unfolded below them - quiet, sun-drenched, and beautiful in that easy, lived-in way that didn’t need to try too hard. Fuma slowed the car as they came down into the town, the buildings quaint and low, most no taller than two stories, their facades painted in soft pastels - weathered blues, sandy yellows, faded coral. White shutters framed every window, and most shops had hand-painted signs swinging gently in the breeze.

It smelled like the ocean, and the salt in the air clinging to their skin through the open windows. The sea breeze blew in warm and constant, carrying with it the distant cries of gulls and the rhythmic hush of waves brushing the shore. The streets were paved in smooth cobblestones, their tires rolling over them with a soft hum. Flower boxes bloomed beneath every window - lavender, daisies, coastal grasses that danced in the wind like ribbons. Kei leaned forward in his seat, his sunglasses pushed up onto his head now as he took everything in.

“Okay,” he said softly, a slow grin spreading across his face, “this is… this is amazing.”

Fuma’s heart flipped in his chest, a quiet swell of pride rising in his throat. “I thought you might like it.”

“Like it?” Kei turned to him, eyes glowing. “I love it. I feel like we just drove into a painting.”

Down by the water, they could see the small boardwalk stretching out from the sand - wooden planks worn from sun and tide, dotted with cozy seafood shacks, and a few ice cream stalls. There was a small harbor tucked off to the side, bobbing with sailboats and fishing vessels, each one painted in cheerful colors, nets hanging from the rails and seagulls lazily circling overhead.

Locals moved at a slow, easy pace - walking dogs, carrying beach towels, sipping iced drinks in plastic cups with fruit skewers balanced inside. No one was in a rush here. Everything about the town whispered, slow down… you’re allowed to relax here.

Fuma turned onto a narrow side street flanked with flowering hedges and a glimpse of the ocean peeking between rooftops. And there, at the end of the lane, nestled behind a low white fence, stood a small beach cottage with light gray wood siding, pale blue shutters, and a wraparound porch shaded by soft linens fluttering in the breeze. Kei let out a low whistle.

“Tell me that’s ours.”

“That’s ours.” Fuma grinned.

Kei stepped up the short wooden stairs of the porch, his fingers brushing the salt-smooth railing as he reached the front door. The soft creak of the old hinges greeted him as he pushed it open, and the moment he stepped inside, his breath caught slightly. The interior was bright and breezy, filled with natural light streaming through wide windows on every wall. The walls were painted in a soft, seafoam white, and the floors were made of sun-bleached wood that creaked comfortingly beneath each step.

There was a living room just to the right, arranged around a pale gray sectional couch that looked impossibly plush, draped with knit throws and striped beach-colored cushions. A low coffee table sat in the center, its surface worn and soft at the corners, and beside it on the far wall was a fireplace with a mantle lined in smooth sea glass, driftwood, and old shells. Bookshelves were tucked into the corners, filled not just with novels but local travel guides, games, puzzles, and a stack of well-worn journals from previous guests filled with memories and messages scribbled in every language.

To the left was the kitchen, open-concept and sun-kissed. There were white cabinets with brass handles, a farmhouse sink beneath a window overlooking the backyard dunes, and a small island with two wooden stools. A bowl of fresh fruit sat on the counter, along with a handwritten note from the Airbnb owner that read: "Welcome home - make some memories." Further back was a dining area, small and intimate, with a round table made from reclaimed wood and two mismatched chairs. A vase sat in the middle, holding wildflowers that had probably been picked that morning.

Kei wandered down the short hall, taking in the details - framed black-and-white photos of the ocean, a hanging mobile of driftwood and twine, the faint scent of cedar and linen lingering in the air. The bedroom was tucked at the back of the cottage, and it stopped him in his tracks. A large window dominated the far wall, its sheer white curtains billowing slightly with the sea breeze. The bed was king-sized, covered in light, airy bedding, layers of white and soft blues, with way too many pillows piled at the headboard. A pair of simple nightstands sat on either side, and above the bed was a single framed painting of a wave curling into itself - powerful, soft, and unending. A door just off to the side led to the bathroom - small, clean, tiled in pale gray with a walk-in shower and ocean-scented soaps in ceramic dispensers. Everything about the place was peaceful.

Kei smiled to himself and called out softly, “You didn’t tell me it was going to be this perfect.”

From the front door, Fuma’s voice floated back. “I was trying to surprise you, remember?”

The younger alpha had barely stepped inside, suitcase wheels thumping softly over the floorboards, when he was greeted not by words - but by arms. Kei reached for him the second the door clicked shut, wrapping his arms around Fuma’s neck, pulling him close like the house wasn’t already full of air and light and warmth, like Fuma himself was the only thing he wanted to breathe. Fuma let out a surprised laugh just as their lips met - soft and full, slow at first, but quickly deepening.

Kei kissed him like the walls around them had disappeared. Like this cottage was a gift wrapped in sunshine and crashing waves, and Fuma was the one who had placed the ribbon around it with his bare hands. The younger alpha melted into him easily, one hand curling around Kei’s waist, the other cupping the back of his head.

“Okay,” Fuma whispered against his lips, smiling even as their mouths stayed close. “I take it you like the place?”

Kei didn’t answer, at least not with words. He kissed him again instead, a little harder this time - fingers threading into Fuma’s hair, mouth moving with a kind of silent gratitude. When they finally pulled apart, both slightly flushed and breathless, Fuma leaned his forehead against Kei’s and chuckled.

“I was going to make us lunch,” he murmured, voice still a little dazed from the way Kei tasted when he was happy. “You hungry?”

Kei opened his eyes slowly, and the look in them made Fuma’s stomach twist in that achingly familiar way. He shook his head, lips brushing against Fuma’s again.

“No.”

Fuma blinked. “No?”

“I want this first,” Kei murmured, voice low and sure. “You. Here. Now.”

Fuma smiled gently, pressing a kiss to the corner of Kei’s mouth. “Okay,” he whispered. “Me too.”

He dropped the suitcase by the door and followed Kei deeper into the house, the late morning sun spilling in behind them as the door eased shut. Kei’s cheeks were slightly pink, his hair tousled from where Fuma had been carding his fingers through it moments earlier.

“This kinda feels like a honeymoon,” he breathed, eyes lazily scanning the ceiling.

Fuma turned slowly to look at him, eyebrow arching, and lips twitching with amusement. “A honeymoon, huh?”

Kei smirked. “I mean - romantic beach town, private cottage, my ridiculously attractive boyfriend treating me like royalty?” he gestured loosely around the room. “Tell me I’m wrong.”

“You’re not wrong.” Fuma’s grin widened as he crossed the room in a few quick strides, grabbing Kei by the hand.

“Wait, what are you -” Kei started, but then he was airborne. “Fuma!”

The taller alpha let out a startled laugh as Fuma scooped him up into a bridal carry, arms locked securely beneath his back and knees.

“You said honeymoon,” Fuma said, grinning like a wolf with a secret. “Guess I better carry my groom over the threshold.”

“You’re ridiculous.” Kei laughed, breathless and stunned and grinning like a kid.

“You love it,” Fuma shot back, nudging the bedroom door open with his foot and carrying him inside.

And Kei did. He loved the way Fuma could be both strong and gentle, steady but playful. He loved how easily Fuma could lift him, how secure he felt in his arms, how seen he felt when those eyes were on him.

The bedroom was glowing now, the late afternoon light turning the white bedding golden. Fuma stepped carefully to the edge of the bed, then let Kei fall - not hard, but with just enough bounce to make him gasp and laugh as he landed among the pillows.

Kei propped himself up on his elbows, still grinning as he looked up at him. “You planning on doing that after we actually mate too?”

Fuma leaned down, palms planted on either side of Kei’s hips, eyes dark with affection. “Oh, baby,” he said with a smirk, voice low and warm, “you’re never walking anywhere again.”

Kei snorted, pulling him down by the front of his shirt, kissing him slow and easy, like the start of something they’d waited their whole lives for. Outside, the waves kept rolling. Inside, the world narrowed to just them. The breeze rolled gently through the open windows, carrying the scent of the ocean and salt-damp pine, rustling the sheer curtains so they danced like quiet ghosts against the wall.

Fuma hovered above Kei, his hands cupping the other alpha’s face as he kissed him again, deeper this time, slow and deliberate. Kei’s hands moved, tracing the curve of the younger alpha's back, slipping beneath the hem of his shirt to find skin. His touch was reverent, like he was still trying to memorize the shape of the body he already knew better than his own reflection.

Fuma’s shirt came off first, dropped somewhere near the foot of the bed, followed soon by Kei’s. They kissed again between breaths, between shared glances and small smiles, letting their bodies press flush together, the heat building slowly between them. Kei’s fingers skimmed down Fuma’s spine, and the younger alpha shivered against him, exhaling softly into the crook of Kei’s neck.

“I love you,” Kei whispered.

Fuma stilled, just for a moment, like he wanted to hold time in his hands. Then he kissed Kei again, slower than before, and whispered back, “I love you more than I know how to say.”

Kei smiled against his lips. “Good thing you’re not great with words. Leaves more time for actions.”

Fuma laughed under his breath, then kissed him again, and again. Kei’s head tilted instinctively to the side, baring his throat without a thought, as Fuma’s mouth found the sensitive skin there. The kisses were slow at first - soft and open-mouthed, placed along the line of Kei’s neck with a tenderness that made the older alpha’s fingers curl into the sheets. Then Fuma’s teeth grazed skin, just barely - a teasing scrape that made Kei suck in a breath.

The younger alpha hovered there for a moment, mouth pressed to it, not biting, just breathing. Just feeling the weight of what this meant. Kei’s chest rose and fell beneath him, slow but uneven, like he too understood exactly what they were standing at the edge of. When Fuma kissed the spot again, it was gentler - like a vow whispered into skin. Then he began to move lower, trailing kisses down Kei’s chest. Fuma continued downward with agonizing patience, his kisses shifting from Kei’s chest to his stomach, lips brushing across the firm lines of muscle and warm skin. Kei’s breath caught, his fingers tightening slightly in Fuma’s hair - not to stop him, not to guide him, just to ground himself in the reality of the moment.

Fuma undid the button slowly, pulled the zipper down with a soft rasp, then eased the fabric down Kei’s hips, dragging it off with care before returning to where he wanted to be. He pressed a kiss just above the swell of Kei’s hip, then shifted lower, nuzzling his face into the older alpha’s inner thigh. The scent hit him immediately - warm, deep, uniquely Kei. Amber and cedarwood, yes, but stronger now. His scent gland was there, tucked against the delicate skin just below the hip. A place only lovers were allowed to touch. A place only a mate could mark.

Fuma lingered there, breathing him in, grounding himself in that familiar, beloved scent. It overwhelmed his senses, and made his own scent pulse low and rich in the air. Then he parted his lips and nipped the sensitive spot, just enough to make Kei twitch and groan softly. Fuma took him in his mouth, slow and sure, and Kei’s head fell back with a choked, gasping moan. The younger alpha's mouth moved with purpose, almost worshipful. Each motion was deliberate, tongue curling, lips firm and wet around him, and Kei’s composure shattered in increments.

“Fuma…”  Kei whispered his name, voice hoarse.

His boyfriend hummed in response, the vibration shooting through Kei’s entire body. His hips jerked slightly, the pleasure sharp and unbearable in its intimacy. Kei’s voice broke into a quiet moan as the pressure inside him snapped, his hips jerking once, twice - then stilling as he came, his release spilling into Fuma’s mouth. Fuma held him through it, never faltering. His hands were firm on Kei’s thighs, his mouth soft and steady, taking every drop without hesitation, like he’d been waiting for this - for Kei - for a long time. The older alpha trembled, his chest heaving as he came down from it, utterly wrecked and beautiful, skin flushed and slick with sweat, lips parted and eyes dazed.

Fuma eased back slowly, licking his lips, letting Kei’s legs rest only for a moment before pushing them back again - exposing him, claiming the view like it belonged to him. Kei let out a shaky breath, caught between sensitivity and something that still burned low and unrelenting in his core.

The younger alpha leaned in, eyes dark, mouth still wet. Then - without breaking eye contact - he let a bit of what Kei had given him drip from his tongue, letting it slide down between Kei’s cheeks, wetting him with his own release. Kei’s breath hitched, his hand fisting the sheets. Fuma dragged his fingers through the slick between the older alpha’s legs - release and spit now mixing together, warm and messy and intimate. He coated his fingers generously, letting them glisten in the filtered light spilling through the curtains. Kei’s breath hitched as he felt the first touch, gentle and exploratory. Fuma didn’t rush; he pressed in with patience, one finger sliding past tight heat as Kei’s body instinctively clenched down. The older alpha let out a breathy sound, one hand reaching to grasp the headboard, the other threading through the sheets.

“You’re doing so good,” Fuma whispered, leaning forward to kiss the inside of his thigh again. “Just breathe for me.”

Fuma worked with calm precision, his fingers slow and deliberate, curling slightly, spreading slick warmth as he worked Kei open. He added a second finger when Kei relaxed around him, his motions gentle, rhythm steady - not just preparing his body, but holding space for the weight of what they were about to share.

Kei moaned, deep in his throat, hips lifting slightly into the touch. His skin was flushed and sensitive, his scent thick with need and trust and the grounding weight of love. He had long since stopped trying to be quiet. His head was thrown back against the pillows, his thighs trembling where they were spread open, and his mouth was parted in soft, desperate sounds - gasps and whimpers and the occasional breathless moan of Fuma’s name.

Fuma remained steady, eyes fixed on him, face flushed with heat and something far deeper than arousal. His fingers were soaked, knuckles deep now as he worked Kei open with slow, stretching motions that had the older alpha trembling under his touch. Four fingers.

“Fuma,” he whimpered, voice cracking. “Please - baby, I can’t… I can’t wait anymore.”

Fuma curled his fingers one last time, making Kei gasp, before slowly pulling out. The older alphas body clenched around the absence, and he let out a shaky cry that cut straight into Fuma’s chest. He leaned over, kissing Kei’s thigh, then his hip, then finally up to his mouth, swallowing his breathless pleas.

“I’ve got you,” Fuma murmured, brushing a hand down Kei’s side. “I just wanted you to be ready.”

“I’ve been ready,” Kei whispered, pressing his forehead to Fuma’s. “I’m yours. I want all of you. Just... please.”

Fuma kissed him again, deeper this time, his own body tight with need, aching to be buried inside him. His body hummed with anticipation as he crossed the room to where one of their bags sat half-zipped near the dresser. He knew exactly what he’d packed - quietly, carefully, wanting this week to be everything they needed.

He retrieved the small bottle of lube and turned back toward the bed, toward Kei, whose body was stretched out in soft surrender across the rumpled sheets, golden in the sunlight, chest rising and falling in shallow, eager breaths. Fuma’s heart clenched at the sight of him. How could someone look like home and heaven at the same time?

He crawled back onto the bed, straddling Kei’s hips before leaning in to press a slow, grounding kiss to his mouth - the kind of kiss that wasn’t just want, but love. Kei melted into it, arms sliding up around Fuma’s neck, pulling him close. When their lips finally parted, Fuma sat back on his knees, and the air shifted. He poured a generous amount of lube into his palm, inhaling a slow, careful breath as the cool liquid slicked across his skin. It was a sudden contrast to the heat pooling in his chest, in his belly, in the air between them.

He slicked himself up with practiced strokes, his eyes never leaving Kei’s face, watching the older alpha’s expression shift - eyes growing darker, mouth falling open slightly, cheeks flushing even deeper. The light through the windows had shifted to a warm, drowsy gold, casting long shadows across the floor, painting Kei’s bare skin in soft, glowing streaks.

Every motion of his hand was mirrored in Kei’s eyes. The same eyes didn’t leave Fuma once. He watched the younger alpha with a gaze so steady it made Fuma feel stripped bare and seen in a way he didn’t even know he wanted. When the younger alpha crawled back over him, Kei welcomed him with open arms. Their bodies met in a soft press of warm skin, and Kei’s legs instinctively parted, curling around Fuma’s hips as he settled between them.

They kissed again as Fuma braced one hand beside Kei’s head, the other sliding down to grip his thigh, thumb stroking in quiet circles. Kei sighed into his mouth, his fingers threading through Fuma’s hair. Then the younger alpha reached down, guiding himself slowly into the slick warmth of Kei’s body beneath him. The soft resistance as he began to press in made Kei gasp, his hands clenching around Fuma’s shoulders. His eyes fluttered shut, and his legs tightened around Fuma’s waist in wordless encouragement.

“Breathe,” Fuma whispered, and kissed him again. Inch by inch, he pushed forward, giving Kei time to adjust, murmuring soft things - half words, half breath.

When Fuma was fully seated inside him, they both stilled. Pressed together so close there was no telling where one ended and the other began. Kei’s arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him down, pressing their foreheads together again. Kei was warm beneath him, arms wrapped loosely around his neck, legs curled around his waist, his chest rising and falling with shallow, shivery breaths. His fingers flexed against Fuma’s back - half grounding, half clinging. His eyes fluttered shut, brows furrowed as he adjusted to the stretch, to the fullness, to being completely filled by the one person he had let into every corner of his life.

Fuma waited until Kei exhaled more easily and his thighs stopped trembling against Fuma’s sides. The younger alpha kissed him once, then pulled back slowly, dragging his hips away until just the tip of his cock remained inside. Kei gasped, back arching faintly. Fuma held him still, bracing one hand beneath his thigh, the other pressed firm to his hip, before easing back in with a low groan.

Kei’s head dropped back against the pillows, his mouth falling open in a breathless moan as Fuma began to move. The bed creaked softly beneath them as the room was filled with their breathing, the quiet slap of skin against skin, the way Kei moaned his boyfriend’s name with every inward thrust like a prayer he couldn’t stop repeating. Fuma’s forehead pressed to Kei’s again, their noses brushing, lips meeting in the spaces between gasps. Every thrust brought him deeper into the place he already belonged, and Kei met him just as eagerly, hips shifting, his body fully yielding to him.

“You feel so good,” Fuma breathed, his voice cracking on the words. “You were made for me.”

“Don’t stop. Don’t ever stop.” Kei whimpered, one hand fisting the sheets, the other tangled in Fuma’s hair.

Fuma didn’t plan to. He kept moving, slow and steady, grounding his pleasure in Kei’s, memorizing every sound and reaction, every tightening of muscle and tremble of breath. He kissed down Kei’s throat again, tongue dragging along the slick line of sweat that had gathered there. Each thrust rocked Kei gently against the mattress, hips rolling up to meet him with rising urgency. Their bodies moved like a tide - back and forth, push and pull - the space between them closing with every breath, every moan, every slick slide of skin against skin.

Kei was falling apart beneath him. His hands scrabbled over Fuma’s back, nails biting in just enough to sting, grounding himself in the rhythm, the pressure, the unshakable presence of the alpha above him. Fuma’s name fell from his lips again and again, sometimes choked, sometimes gasped, sometimes a whisper. The heat between them was dizzying, the room thick with the scent of sweat and sex, want and trust. Fuma kept his thrusts deep and steady, his breath shaking every time Kei clenched around him, every time a low, breathless moan echoed in the small cottage room. His body was burning, every muscle taut, every nerve ending raw with pleasure.

“Fuma,” Kei gasped suddenly, voice catching, “I’m - fuck, I’m close.”

Fuma didn’t hesitate. One hand slid between them, slick with sweat and lube, fingers wrapping firmly around Kei’s cock. Kei let out a strangled cry the moment Fuma touched him, the sudden stimulation pushing him that much closer to the edge. Fuma kept stroking him, rhythmic and sure, timed perfectly with the thrusts of his hips. His mouth hovered near Kei’s jaw, whispering soft things - encouragements, praises, the kind of things only lovers say when everything is bare and open.

“You’re doing so good for me,” he murmured. “You feel so perfect. Just let go. I’ve got you.”

Kei’s body arched, his back lifting off the mattress, every muscle drawn tight as his breath hitched. With a cry that echoed off the wooden beams above them, he came, hot and pulsing over Fuma’s hand, his body shaking as waves of pleasure rolled through him. Fuma didn’t stop moving. He held Kei through it, fucking him through every aftershock, his name whispered like prayer. He was still inside him, still connected, still chasing his own release - but everything in that moment was wrapped in the way Kei trembled in his arms, the way his body pulsed and sighed and slowly softened beneath him.

Their mouths were open against each other’s, panting between messy, hungry kisses. There was no grace left, no rhythm - just tongue and teeth and gasps, their bodies slick and sliding together, everything sticky and overwhelming in the best way.

Fuma couldn’t tear his mouth away from Kei’s. He was breathing straight into him, groaning against his lips, their exhales tangled, tongues moving in sync, wet and uncoordinated. Kei moaned softly into the kiss, swallowing Fuma’s sounds, tugging him impossibly closer. With a strangled, low groan that came from deep in his chest, Fuma's hips stuttered, thrusts losing all rhythm as he came hard inside Kei, his entire body locking up for one breathless moment before shaking with the force of his release.

“Kei,” he gasped, voice raw, helpless as he buried himself one last time and filled him, pulse after pulse, pleasure tearing through him like a wave crashing against the shore.

The older alpha held him tightly, their lips still brushing, their bodies pressed flush. He could feel the warmth of Fuma spilling into him, could feel the way the younger alpha trembled with it, how his moans were muffled into Kei’s open mouth.

They just clung to each other, panting and gasping, slick skin pressed together, letting the moment crash and soften around them. Their kiss slowed and became gentler. Messy licks turned into slow swipes of tongues, soft pecks, quiet mouths parting only to rest against each other again. There was no rush to move. Just heavy breathing, a thudding heartbeat, and the unbearable sweetness of finally letting go.

Fuma pressed a final kiss to the curve of Kei’s jaw, his breath still catching slightly in the back of his throat. Kei lay loose and boneless beneath him, a light flush still glowing on his cheeks, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion and something deeper, contentment, maybe. Peace. But Fuma could feel the stickiness between them. Could see the light tremble in Kei’s limbs, the flush of oversensitivity beginning to bloom. He pulled out slowly, carefully - his breath catching again as he watched his own release leak out from between Kei’s thighs, the sight making something twist deep in his chest. Kei flinched slightly with the movement, and Fuma murmured a soft apology, brushing a kiss to his temple. Then, without warning, he slid an arm beneath Kei’s knees and another behind his back, lifting him into a bridal carry once again.

“Fuma," Kei murmured, too spent to fight it but still managing a breathless laugh. “You’ve been on a carrying kick lately.”

Fuma smiled, holding him tighter. “I like taking care of you. You earned this.”

Kei hummed, tucking his face into Fuma’s neck as the younger alpha carefully stepped out of the bedroom and into the en-suite bathroom. The second the door opened, they both blinked at the light pouring in from the skylight above. The bathroom was larger than they expected, lined with smooth gray stone and soft wood accents. A deep walk-in shower stretched along the far wall, glass panels fogged faintly from the heat of the room, steam already curling through the air.

“Damn,” Kei whispered, lifting his head slightly. “We should’ve started here.”

Fuma chuckled and set him down gently on the wide shower bench before reaching in to turn on the water. It came to life with a soft roar, quickly warming to the perfect temperature. He tested it with his hand, then guided Kei under the spray with him, arms still loosely looped around his waist. Warmth sliding down their skin, steam curling through their hair, the tension in their muscles slowly unwinding. The shower was spacious enough for both of them to move easily, but neither made an effort to step away.

Fuma reached for the soap, lathering it between his hands before sliding his fingers gently across Kei’s skin, starting at his shoulders and slowly working his way down. He was careful around the more sensitive areas, murmuring quiet reassurances every time Kei twitched or gasped. He cleaned Kei with slow, reverent touches across his chest, his stomach, down his thighs.

“Let me do yours next,” the older alpha said softly, reaching for the soap with a tired smile. But Fuma only shook his head and pulled him close, wrapping his arms around his back.

“Later,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to Kei’s shoulder. “Let me hold you a little longer first.”

And so, they stood there - wrapped in warmth and water, bare and quiet and whole.

The next morning arrived slowly, the way mornings tend to do when the world outside is calm and the bed you're waking up in is warm. They took their time waking up - no alarms, no rush. Just Fuma curled around Kei’s back, their legs tangled beneath the sheets, their skin still warm from sleep and sun. the cottage was quiet except for the sounds of soft waves and the breeze tapping gently at the windows. Eventually, though, the call of sunlight, the low growl of someone’s stomach, and the promise of a whole town waiting just beyond the waves was too much to ignore. So, they got dressed, grabbed a quick breakfast from the basket left out on the porch - fresh muffins, sweet jam, strong black coffee - and then set off, hand in hand, toward the boardwalk.

The town was just as peaceful as when they arrived, but now that they were walking through it side by side in the daylight, it felt more alive. Shop doors were open, window displays refreshed, the streets smelled like saltwater and fried food, and the sound of gulls overhead filled the spaces between shop bells and quiet chatter. They took their time walking around. There was no agenda, no destination. Just the rhythm of strolling slowly past the quaint little shops lining the wooden planks of the boardwalk. The first store was a cozy home goods place - lots of driftwood shelves, soft cotton throws, and handmade mugs with mismatched glazing. Kei found a ceramic plate shaped like a seashell that made Fuma roll his eyes but agree to buy it anyway.

“It’ll look good on the kitchen table,” Kei said, completely serious. “For fruit.”

“It’ll hold, like, three apples.”

“Then it’s perfect.”

They bought a small framed print of the coastline for their bedroom wall. A new set of salt and pepper shakers that looked like tiny wolves. A wind chime for the balcony that Fuma absolutely did not want, but Kei rang it and smiled so brightly he had no choice. Outside, the younger alpha stopped every few steps to take something in - bright flowerpots on windowsills, chalkboard signs offering fresh lemonade or discounted piercings, the faint sound of a record player from a vinyl shop. Kei kept pointing at storefronts he thought looked “very us,” and Fuma kept laughing when they were all things like handmade soap boutiques or stores that sold decorative coasters.

They wandered into a second shop - this one cluttered in the best way, all mismatched throw pillows and unique bookends and mugs shaped like sea creatures. It smelled like incense and sun-dried fabric, and they each ended up with a small bag of things they didn’t need but somehow couldn’t walk away from. Then, as they turned the corner of the boardwalk, Fuma spotted a shop with a bold, blocky sign and stopped.

Kei looked at him, already smirking. “Thinking of Taki?”

Fuma nodded. “Yeah. Might as well get him a few things for when he stays with us this summer.”
Inside, the shop was a mix of graphic tees, books, and niche novelty items that clearly catered to tourists.

“Do you think he’d like this?” Kei asked, holding up a bold, graphic hoodie.

Fuma squinted at it. “You don’t even know if he skates or surfs, Kei.”

“Yeah, but... it’s cool, right? Fourteen-year-olds like hoodies.” Kei shrugged.

“I guess.” Fuma rolled his eyes but smiled anyway.

It was harder than he thought, shopping for someone they hadn’t even met yet. All they really knew was what Kei’s mom told them - that Taki was a bit of a loner, liked playing board games, and definitely needed a change of scenery. Fuma didn’t know if they were overdoing it by buying countless snacks, hoodies and video game gift cards but a part of him wanted Taki to feel like they’d been preparing for him. Like he wasn’t just some guest and actually belonged.

They ended up in a small bookstore next, where Fuma lingered in the manga section, picking up a few popular series he remembered liking at that age.

“Too old-school?” he asked, holding up one volume.

Kei peeked over his shoulder, grinning. “If it’s old-school, that makes you old.”

Fuma elbowed him lightly, but his smile didn’t fade. “Shut up. Kids still read this stuff.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Kei teased, reaching for a volume of his own. “We can get a few. Maybe it’ll be something we can all read together.”

They moved on to a gaming shop next, where Kei nearly bought a console before Fuma physically dragged him away.

“We don’t even know if he plays video games, Kei.”

“But what if he wants to and he can’t?” Kei argued, eyes shining like he was already imagining long nights of gaming marathons with the kid.

Kei’s enthusiasm was infectious. And maybe a little naive. But that was why Fuma loved him. They left the store with just a few accessories, agreeing they’d see what Taki was into first before buying out the whole gaming aisle.

“You think we’re overdoing it?” Fuma asked quietly, fiddling with the handle of the bags.

Kei gave him that soft, Kei-kind-of-smile that always settled Fuma’s nerves.

“Nah,” he said simply. “I’d rather overdo it than make him feel like an afterthought.”

For lunch, they found a small spot tucked along the side of the boardwalk - a cozy corner café with whitewashed benches and seafoam-green umbrellas fluttering in the breeze. The scent of fried seafood, fresh bread, and something citrusy hung in the air, carried by the wind off the ocean.

The waiter led them to a shaded table overlooking the shore. Kei slid into the seat across from Fuma with a relaxed sigh, pushing his sunglasses up to the bridge of his nose as he leaned back and tipped his face toward the sun. Fuma watched him, a fond smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. Kei looked effortlessly content - a little flushed from the sun, hair messy from the wind, his mouth still pink from the cold lemonade they’d grabbed on the way over. He looked like everything Fuma had ever wanted and never knew he could have.

The food came out fast - grilled fish for Kei, some sort of garlic-topped sandwich for Fuma - and they dug in, relaxed and a little sun-drowsy from the walk. At some point, Kei speared a bite of his lunch with his fork and held it out across the table.

Fuma blinked. “What?”

Kei wiggled the fork. “Try it.”

Fuma smirked, leaning in and letting Kei feed it to him, cheeks a little flushed as he chewed. The older alpha just smiled, and fed him another bite. A few people at nearby tables turned to glance in their direction. Just quick glances, some curious, some fond. One elderly couple even smiled at them, the woman nudging her partner with a knowing look, like she was watching a younger version of themselves. But then there were others. Not hostile, just… watching with eyes lingering a little too long.

One man at the far edge of the patio turned back to his food with his lips pressed into a firm line and Fuma felt the weight of his stare. The judgement behind it, like there was a silent message of ‘you’re not supposed to exist like this’. Fuma knew that look. He’d seen it before. He’d seen it in the way his parents’ expressions hardened that followed his own confession. He knew what people like that thought when they saw two alphas together - unnatural, shameful, doomed to fall apart.

Fuma felt the familiar twist in his stomach, the old ghost of insecurity rise to the surface. But then he looked back across the table at Kei. Kei, who had his sunglasses tilted halfway down his nose now, squinting at him with a faint burn blooming across his cheeks and nose. Kei, who had a fork still in his hand, clearly ready to feed him again just because it made Fuma blush. Kei, whose smile was so soft, so easy, so him, that it made everything else fall away. And just like that - the anxiety unraveled. Because how could anyone look at this and think it was wrong?

Kei wasn’t just Fuma’s boyfriend. He wasn’t some vague rebellion against expectation or a passing crush. Kei was home, in every sense of the word. He was warmth in the cold and quiet in the noise. He was the reason Fuma had stopped waking up afraid and started going to bed dreaming of a future that actually felt possible.

Fuma watched him laugh at a seagull steal some fries from the table next to them, and the weight of the stranger’s stare faded to nothing. He didn’t care who was watching. Because this right here - sunlight, laughter, a mouthful of lemon rice, and Kei sitting across the table with that stupid gorgeous face - was all he needed. Fuma smiled softly, leaning forward on his elbows, gaze fixed on the older alpha.

“I love you,” he said, just loud enough for Kei to hear.

Kei paused, looked up, and blinked once. Then smiled back - like his heart had heard it before his ears had.

"I know,” he said, grinning. “But say it again.”

After lunch, they meandered back to the cottage with bags swinging at their sides, the afternoon sun casting long shadows ahead of them. The air was warm but beginning to cool at the edges, brushing against their skin like a promise of the breeze waiting by the water. They pushed open the door, dropped their bags by the entryway, and immediately peeled out of their earlier clothes - trading denim and cotton for something lighter, something meant for the sea.

Fuma emerged from the bedroom first, towel slung over one shoulder, his black swim trunks hanging low on his hips. He was still running a hand through his messy hair when Kei stepped out behind him, shirtless, his blue swim shorts patterned with tiny white waves. Fuma stopped in the hallway and stared.

“What?” Kei asked, smirking, rubbing sunscreen between his palms.

“Nothing,” Fuma said, eyes sweeping over his boyfriends tall, muscular frame slowly. “Just… you look good.”

Kei tilted his head. “Only now?”

Fuma rolled his eyes but didn’t deny it. He stepped closer and pressed a kiss to Kei’s temple, murmuring, “You always look good,” before stealing the sunscreen and slathering some onto his own arms.

The walk to the beach wasn’t long - a narrow footpath that curved around the back of the cottage, marked by smooth stones and wild grasses brushing their calves as they moved. The sound of waves grew louder with each step, pulling them forward. The sand was pale and soft underfoot, still warm from the day’s heat, and the beach itself stretched out in a long, peaceful arc of shoreline. No one else was in sight - just sky and sea and each other.

They dropped their towels on a smooth patch of sand near the edge of the dunes. The breeze off the ocean was cooler here, tugging at Kei’s hair and lifting the hem of Fuma’s towel where it draped over his shoulder.

Kei turned toward the water, shielding his eyes with one hand, the light catching the curve of his cheekbone. “You coming in with me?”

Fuma grinned. “Didn’t drive us all the way to a beach town to not swim.”

With a running start, Kei bolted toward the waves, laughter trailing behind him. Fuma took a second to watch his future mate, who was already ankle-deep, splashing into the surf, his laugh carried by the wind, his silhouette painted gold in the setting sun. And Fuma’s heart clenched, full to the point of bursting. He ran after him, barefoot in the sand, chasing something he already had.

The ocean hit them with a soft roar, cool against sun-warmed skin, sending a shiver down both their spines as they waded deeper into the water. It wasn’t freezing, but it had that sharp, bracing edge that made them laugh and gasp, breath catching as their bodies adjusted to the cold. Kei splashed Fuma first, his hands cutting through the water with a grin too smug for someone so close to being tackled.

“Really?” Fuma sputtered, shaking his head as droplets ran down his chest. “We’re doing this already?”

Kei just splashed him again so Fuma lunged, sending a wave in the other alpha’s direction with both hands, the water cascading up his arms and soaking them both. Kei shrieked - half laugh, half yelp - and tried to flee, stumbling through the surf. Fuma gave chase, both of them laughing like kids, their splashes echoing down the beach.

They darted in and out of waist-deep water, dodging each other’s attacks, waves lapping at their sides. Kei was faster, but Fuma had better aim and eventually, when Kei turned to throw another handful of water, Fuma struck. With a well-timed leap, he tackled Kei from behind, arms wrapping around his waist and dragging him under with a victorious yell. They both went down in a flurry of limbs and bubbles.

Underwater, the world went quiet. Sunlight filtered through the waves in golden streaks, and for a few suspended seconds, they were just two bodies, suspended in something vast and endless.

They surfaced together, gasping and laughing, hair plastered to their faces, water dripping from their lashes. Fuma shoved his hair back and grinned at Kei, who was floating on his back now, chest heaving with breath, face turned toward the slowly dimming sky.

“You cheated,” Kei said between panting laughs.

They swam for a while, not in any particular direction, sometimes side by side, sometimes with Fuma diving under and surfacing a few feet away just to see Kei roll his eyes. The ocean wrapped around them like silk, the kind that cooled flushed skin and carried their laughter out to sea.

Eventually, they drifted back to shore, waterlogged and grinning, their hands brushing as they walked barefoot across the wet sand. Their towels were still where they’d left them, half-covered now by wind-blown sand. Kei flopped down first with a contented groan, his arms thrown wide like he was offering himself to the sky. Fuma dropped beside him, closer than necessary, rolling onto his side to watch the sunlight paint golden highlights into Kei’s damp hair.

The sun was low now, just kissing the horizon, its light soft and hazy, casting the sky in dusky pinks and warm orange. Fuma let out a slow breath, gaze drifting from the sky back to Kei.

"Hey!" a voice called out. "You two want in?"

Fuma looked up, squinting past the sun to see a small group of college-age strangers gathered around a makeshift volleyball court drawn out in the sand. One of them - a guy with sun-bleached hair and a confident grin - was waving them over.

 “Us?” Kei raised a brow.

“Yeah,” the guy called back. “We’re short a couple people and you guys look tall and athletic.”

Kei glanced at Fuma with a half-smile. “What do you think?”

Fuma shrugged. “I think we’ve got a decent chance of doing alright”

“I do love a good competition.” Kei stood, brushing sand off his legs.

They jogged over, waving to all the others standing on both sides of the volleyball net. Introductions were quick, informal - names they probably wouldn’t remember by tomorrow - but the group was friendly and loud, and the vibe was easy to fall into.

“You guys ever play?” someone asked, tossing a ball in the air.

“Not really,” Fuma said.

“We played soccer in Uni,” Kei added, “so we’re not completely uncoordinated.”

“Perfect,” the sun-bleached guy laughed. “Let’s split you up.”

And just like that, they were on opposite sides of the net.

Kei smirked at Fuma from across the sand, brushing wind-swept hair out of his eyes. “Try not to cry when I destroy you.”

Fuma cracked his knuckles with mock seriousness. “Please. The only one doing the destroying here, is me”

The first few rounds were rough as Kei misjudged a serve, Fuma got hit in the chest with a ball he didn’t see coming, and neither of them had much of a strategy. But what they lacked in experience, they made up for with sheer height and competitive spirit. Kei was fast, agile, and good at reading people's next move. Fuma had incredible reach and - when he actually landed a hit - the power of a freight train.

It didn’t take long before they found a rhythm. Their teams rallied behind them, shouting encouragement and teasing with every missed serve or dramatic dive. Sand clung to their legs, sweat dampened their hair, and the sound of laughter mixed with the slap of volleyball against hands and sand.

Fuma dove for a low ball, rolled up in a cloud of grit, and popped back up with a grin. Across the net, Kei landed a clean serve and winked at him as the ball hit the ground untouched. They were both breathing hard now, flushed from the sun and movement, grinning like fools.

Sweat clung to Fuma’s skin, trickling down the side of his neck and soaking into his skin as he walked toward the shade of the nearby palm cluster, where someone had stuck a cooler of bottled water. He cracked one open and took a long sip, his chest still rising and falling from the match. The water was cool, a little metallic, and the way it hit his throat was bliss after the heat of the court. He barely noticed someone approaching until a small shadow fell beside him.

“Hey,” a voice said, light and easy.

Fuma turned slightly, lowering his water bottle. An omega stood beside him - shorter, leaner, and dressed in a pale tank that clung to his frame with sweat. His dark hair was wind-tousled, his cheeks tinged pink from sun exposure.

“Nice playing,” the omega added, nodding toward the court.

Fuma gave a polite smile. “Thanks. You too.”

The omega grinned. “I’m Ren, by the way.”

“Fuma.”

“You live nearby, or just passing through?” Ren asked, leaning back slightly on his heels, sipping from his own bottle. “Most people come down for the long weekend.”

Fuma wiped the back of his neck with his forearm, glancing out toward the water where a few other players were wading in to cool off. “Just spending the week at a rental. Little break from the city.”

“Lucky.” Ren smiled again, this time just a little more playful. “Came with friends?”

Fuma sipped his water, answering casually. “Came with my mate.”

Ren paused - just for a split second. It wasn’t much, but Fuma noticed it. A flicker of surprise that smoothed over quickly.

“Ah,” Ren said, nodding. “Cool. That the guy with the sunglasses? The one who keeps glaring at me?”

Fuma turned toward the court. Sure enough, Kei was watching - arms crossed, sunglasses still perched on the bridge of his nose, mouth set in a line.

“Yeah. That would be him.”

“Well,” Ren said with a light shrug, clearly unbothered, “he’s got a good eye. You’re kind of hard not to notice.”

Fuma gave him a polite smile and tilted his head in a quiet thanks. The omega made a swift, almost comical exit the moment Kei started walking over - head ducked, voice cut off mid-sentence, footsteps quick across the hot sand. He didn’t even glance back. Just disappeared behind the volleyball net like he hadn’t just been eying Fuma like a snack five seconds ago.

Kei didn’t say anything at first as he reached him, but Fuma could see it in his face - the narrowed gaze, the way his jaw was a little tight, and the slight raise of one eyebrow that said I saw everything. Fuma didn’t flinch. He just grinned, and with his water bottle dangling from one hand and his other already reaching to gently tug Kei closer by the waistband of his swim shorts.

“I was just getting water.”

“I know,” Kei replied evenly.

Fuma bumped his shoulder. “You’re cute when you’re jealous.”

“I’m not -” Kei stopped and exhaled. “You know what? Fine. A little.”

Fuma grinned and grabbed his hand for a quick squeeze, ignoring the amused look from one of the other players nearby. “You have nothing to worry about.”

“I know,” Kei muttered. “But I’m still gonna glare at anyone who flirts with you.”

The older alpha couldn’t blame people for staring. His own water bottle was cool in his hand, but it did little to soothe the heat coiling low in his stomach. Fuma looked like a damn Greek god, standing there in the sunlight with sweat glistening on his skin.  And when he was done drinking his water, he tipped the rest over the top of his head, sending the liquid cascading down the hollow of his throat, glistening over the defined lines of his chest.

His skin had already coloured from being outside all day, painting his already golden skin with a deeper warmth that looked unfairly good in the sun. Black hair was slicked back from his forehead, a little damp, messy in the way Kei always liked. His shoulders were broad, arms flexing every time he lifted the bottle to his lips. His abs weren’t carved, not like some showy gym rat, but they were there - real and earned.

Kei took another drink, but it was mostly to stop himself from staking a claim in the most obvious way possible cause fuck, he wanted to. He didn’t care that they were in public or that people were watching. If he had half the chance, he’d drop to his knees right there and lick every drop of sweat off Fuma’s body, drag his tongue up those abs, across his chest, until every inch of that sun-kissed skin was covered in his spit instead.

“Could you…” Kei shifted slightly, turning his back to Fuma. “Put more sunscreen on? My back’s burning.”

“Of course.”

Fuma reached for the bottle Kei had tucked into the top of the cooler and flipped the cap with a quiet snap. The scent hit him instantly - something like coconut and citrus and summer - and he poured a generous amount into his palm before stepping behind the older alpha.

Kei stood still, his muscles already relaxing in anticipation. Fuma’s hands met his skin with a practiced kind of care - fingers broad and warm, spreading the white lotion over the lean planes of Kei’s back. He started at the base of his shoulders, smoothing the sunscreen down with slow, deliberate strokes. His thumbs followed the ridge of muscle along Kei’s spine, pressing just firmly enough to make Kei exhale and lean into his touch - into the quiet care of being handled so gently by someone who knew his body by heart.

“You’re already turning pink,” Fuma murmured as his hands slid lower, down to the dip of Kei’s back, fingers splayed wide, still rubbing slow circles to help the lotion sink in. The younger alpha leaned in and kissed the top of his sun-warmed shoulder. “All done”

Kei turned just enough to glance over his shoulder, eyes half-lidded beneath wind-mussed hair and the edge of his sunglasses. “Thank you.”

The game ended with Fuma’s team cheering, arms in the air and sand flying everywhere as someone on their side spiked the final point. Fuma turned and whooped, arms stretched out, grinning like the sun lived inside him, sweat glistening on his skin, hair a mess, and cheeks pink from exertion.

Kei stood on the other side of the net, hands on his hips, lips pressed into a thin line. His team clapped politely behind him, laughing off the loss, but Kei wasn’t paying attention to any of it. He was too focused on Fuma - on his boyfriend, who had the audacity to turn toward him and smirk.

“You gonna survive?” Fuma called out, clearly riding the high of victory. Kei narrowed his eyes.

“Oh come on, don’t be a sore loser. You played great. Just... not great enough.” Fuma teased as he crossed the sand toward him. “Guess I’m the top alpha today.”

Kei’s gaze darkened immediately and the smirk fell off Fuma’s lips just a little. Before he could say anything else, one of the guys from their makeshift team jogged over, panting.

“We’re all grabbing drinks at the beach bar - if you guys are down?”

Kei didn’t answer. He was already turning, grabbing their towels, tossing bottles and sandals back into the tote bag in quick, controlled movements.

“Uh,” Fuma watched his boyfriend pack up in a hurry. “Thanks for the invite, but I think -”

“He’s busy,” Kei said simply, barely glancing over his shoulder, his voice cool and clipped in that don’t-ask way that made people instinctively back off.

Fuma turned back to the group, a little sheepish. “Rain check?”

“Yeah, sure,” the guy laughed, clearly not taking it personally.

Fuma barely had time to sling his towel over his shoulder before Kei grabbed his wrist and started dragging him up the path, his grip firm and uncompromising, tugging him away from the beach without another word.

“Kei,” Fuma said, half-laughing, half-breathless, stumbling a bit as he followed. “You okay?”

Kei didn’t answer at first. Not until they were halfway up the hill, the cottage just barely visible through the trees. He stopped then, turning sharply, eyes burning as he faced Fuma.

“You’re not subtle, you know,” Fuma said, stepping close, amused and a little flushed.

“You’re not innocent,” Kei shot back, “strutting around like that, all shirtless and smug, making everyone want you.”

Fuma grinned. “You’re the only one who gets to have me, you know that.”

“Then stop teasing me.”

“I’m not.”

Kei’s hands gripped his waist suddenly, firmly. “You are,” he growled, leaning in until their noses nearly brushed. “And now I’m going to remind you exactly who you belong to.”

“Then maybe,” Fuma said softly, tilting his head just enough to press their foreheads together, “you should stop talking and prove it.”

Kei’s eyes burned. Without another word, he grabbed Fuma’s hand again and pulled him the rest of the way up the path, the kind of purposeful stride. The moment the door slammed shut behind them, Kei’s hands were on him. Fuma barely had time to drop the towel bag before Kei shoved him firmly up against the wall, his mouth crashing into Fuma’s with the kind of hunger that left no room for teasing.

Their lips moved together in fevered sync, the kind of kiss that dragged the breath from your lungs, that bit at the edges of pain and pleasure. Kei gripped Fuma’s jaw, thumb stroking under his chin, claiming every inch of his mouth, not asking - taking.

Fuma barely had time to blink, much less speak, before he was shoved forward towards the bedroom with a firm, commanding grip - his body caught in Kei’s hands like a storm claiming the tide. He stumbled toward the bed, landing with a grunt against the mattress, only for Kei to immediately press into his back, the weight of him a searing reminder of what was coming.

"Down," Kei growled, voice low and dark in a way that made heat lick up Fuma’s spine.

The younger alpha obeyed without thinking, muscles tensing in anticipation as he let himself be pushed down - face first, hips lifted, the cotton of his swim shorts clinging to the curve of his ass.

“Good,” Kei murmured, stroking down his boyfriend’s back with a gentle possessiveness. The older alpha wanted the sweet submission that only he ever got from Fuma - the kind that didn’t come from weakness but from complete, unshakable trust. “You’re so damn beautiful when you stop pretending you’re in control.”

Fuma loved being in control. He loved taking Kei apart, loved pushing him to the edge until he was a writhing mess beneath him. But when Kei flipped the script - when he turned all that burning, slow patience of his into something hard and commanding - Fuma crumbled for him. Every. Single. Time.

"Kei - " Fuma started, breathless.

"No talking," The older alpha said, and Fuma bit his bottom lip hard enough to sting.

Hands, rough and possessive, slid down his back, nails scraping faint lines down sweat-slick skin. Kei leaned in, his breath hot over Fuma’s shoulder, the shape of his chest molding to his back as he pulled down the younger’s shorts.

“Look at you,” The older alpha whispered, voice full of heat and reverence. “All that strength - and you still fold so easy for me.”

Fuma moaned, low and desperate, body already straining toward him. Kei knelt behind him, palms spreading across the round, flexed muscle of Fuma’s ass. He squeezed once, drawing a sharp inhale from the younger alpha, before pulling his cheeks apart, exposing the tight, flushed skin of his entrance - already twitching in anticipation. Then he lowered his head, and licked. Fuma choked on a gasp, whole body jerking forward, but Kei gripped his hips and held him in place, tongue flattening over the ring of muscle before swirling, licking again, sucking hard enough to make Fuma moan his name into the mattress.

There was no teasing, no slow build. Kei dove in like a man starved, his tongue filthy and relentless, devouring Fuma with a hunger that bordered on reverent. Every wet, obscene sound that filled the room only made Fuma sink deeper into the bed, his pride forgotten, his thighs shaking. Kei pulled back just enough to blow cool air against the now-slick, sensitive skin, and Fuma whimpered, the sound muffled by the sheets.

“You gonna be good for me?” Kei murmured, mouth still so close that his lips brushed where his tongue had just been. “Let me ruin you properly?”

Fuma nodded helplessly, voice ragged. “Yes. Anything. Just - Kei - please.”

Kei pulled back, his breath ragged, lips slick and swollen from where he’d been buried between Fuma’s thighs. He stared for a moment, gaze fixed on the flushed, twitching ring of muscle that still clenched around nothing, wet and glistening with his spit.

“Beautiful,” he murmured.

Then, without another word, he leaned forward, gathering more saliva on his tongue and spitting slowly, deliberately, right where Fuma wanted it most. Fuma groaned, low and aching, hips twitching at the sensation. His forehead pressed harder into the mattress, shoulders flexing beneath him, arms curled tight beside his head like he needed to hold onto something - anything - to stay grounded.

Two fingers slid inside, slick and sure, pushing past the resistance with practiced ease. Fuma cried out, his back arching at the sudden stretch, mouth falling open as his breath caught in his throat. It burned - but in that way he loved. The way only Kei ever gave him.

His boyfriend leaned over him, his free hand planting firm against the small of Fuma’s back, holding him steady while his fingers worked deeper, scissoring slowly, stretching him with no real mercy and no apologies.

“Louder,” Kei said, voice rough and wrecked already. “Let everyone in town hear how good I make you feel.”

Fuma moaned again, shameless and broken. Every press of Kei’s fingers lit something inside him - some switch that flipped off control and flipped on need. He secretly loved it when Kei was like this - a little rough, a little wild, the kind of dominance that came not from needing to overpower him, but from knowing that Fuma could take it. Because no one else got to see Fuma like this. No one else could bring him to his knees and make him love it. Only Kei. And in moments like this - breathless, trembling, burning for more - Fuma never felt more owned, more safe, or more loved.

Kei pulled his fingers out, pressing a kiss to the base of the younger’s spine before moving back just long enough to line himself up, one hand still gripping Fuma’s hip like he needed the anchor, the other steadying himself on the bed.  Fuma gasped, sharp and guttural, his spine arching beautifully as Kei’s length forced its way in, stretching him open with a slow, relentless thrust. The burn was delicious. It clawed up his spine, wrapped around his nerves, made his eyes flutter shut and his lips part in a silent moan that only found voice when Kei bottomed out, hips flush against him.

“God,” Kei groaned, the word low and guttural. “You’re so tight like this.”

Fuma couldn’t answer - not with words. His hands clawed at the sheets, mouth open in a ragged gasp, body twitching as Kei withdrew only to slam back in again, hips snapping with unforgiving rhythm. Kei gripped his hips harder, fingers digging into skin with bruising force, grounding himself in the slick heat of Fuma’s body and the way he took it so well, just like he always did.

“Look at you,” Kei muttered, leaning in, his voice all gravel and heat. “Big, strong alpha moaning into the mattress like you were made to take me.”

Fuma’s only response was a strangled moan, his body tightening, pulsing around Kei’s cock with every rough, perfect thrust.

“You talk back all day, run your mouth like you’re in charge,” Kei continued, voice curling with possessiveness. “But the second I get you like this? You fold.”

He thrust again, harder, and Fuma let out a cry, trembling under him.

“That’s right,” Kei whispered, leaning down so his chest pressed to Fuma’s back, breath hot against his ear. “Because you know who you belong to.”

Fuma turned his head, eyes half-lidded, flushed and wrecked but smiling.

“You,” he whispered.

Kei groaned, losing rhythm for a moment as the word hit him harder than it should have. Yeah. Fuma was his. And he was going to remind him of that until the younger alpha couldn’t remember anything else.

Fuma gripped the sheets like a lifeline, his knuckles white, fingers twisting into the fabric as his body shook beneath the weight of it all - the pain, the pleasure, the way Kei didn’t let up for a second. Every thrust felt like it reached something deeper. Every snap of Kei’s hips sent sparks straight up Fuma’s spine, his muscles burning from the stretch, from the relentless rhythm, from the feeling of being so full he could barely think. His mind was a blur.

Kei’s voice was in his ear, low and rough and possessive, telling him how good he looked like this. How tight he was. How much Kei loved wrecking him, dragging every sound from his throat, every twitch from his thighs. Fuma’s breaths came in short, ragged bursts, his mouth open against the mattress as he tried - and failed - to hold himself together.

Each thrust pushed him closer to the edge, the line between pain and bliss blurring until it didn’t matter where one ended and the other began. His eyes squeezed shut, sweat beading at his temple as he let out a cracked, broken moan. The pressure was unbearable now, building so fast he could barely breathe. He was close - too close, and Kei wasn’t slowing down.

His body arched and the world went quiet except for Kei’s name leaving his lips like a prayer. Fuma could feel the subtle swell inside him, the way the older alpha’s rhythm faltered just slightly, a raw sound tearing from his throat as his alpha instincts surged to the surface. Kei’s knot was forming, pressing in harder with every thrust, stretching him open in a way that bordered on unbearable, and Fuma wanted it. He gasped into the sheets, legs trembling, back arched so perfectly that his hips tilted up in offering.

“Please,” he breathed, voice slurred and wrecked. “Kei, I want it. I want your knot. I need it.”

Kei let out a growl that sounded more animal than human, his grip on Fuma’s hips tightening as he slammed forward again, the swelling base of his cock catching at the rim of Fuma’s entrance and pulling a strangled cry from the younger's throat. Fuma shook beneath him, mind hazy with submission and longing, his entire world narrowing to the thick, pulsing pressure filling him and the heat in Kei’s voice when he spoke next.

“You want it that bad?” The alpha rasped, chest heaving against Fuma’s back. “Want me to knot you? Fill you so full you can’t think?”

Fuma nodded frantically, biting into the pillow as another thrust sent him spiraling. “Yes - yes, Kei, bite me - mark me - please!”

The groan Kei let out sounded like it was ripped from his chest. He sank in deep and stayed there, knot swelling fully inside Fuma, locking them together in one final thrust that stole the breath from both their lungs. Fuma gasped - the burn, the stretch, the feeling of being owned, completely and absolutely, overwhelmed him. His nails scraped at the sheets, body arching, mouth open as another orgasm threatened to tear through him from the sheer pressure of being filled.

Kei leaned in, lips brushing over the sweat-slick skin at the base of Fuma’s neck. His hands trembled where they gripped Fuma’s hips. His chest felt like it could burst from the force of the love and possession boiling in his blood. The older alpha’s teeth sank in - through skin, through instinct, into something more. The second his fangs broke flesh, the world snapped into place.

Kei had always wondered what it would feel like. He’d thought about mating before but never like this. Never with this kind of clarity. Never with this kind of need. Not until Fuma. His knot pulsed deep inside Fuma, locking them together in a way that was already intimate, primal, permanent - but the bond, the mark, the bite… that was something else entirely. Heat exploded in his chest, coiling through every nerve, every heartbeat syncing to Fuma’s like it had always belonged there. It was overwhelming - bright and sharp and impossibly right. The bond clicked into place like a key sliding into the lock of his soul. Kei’s entire body shuddered. His grip on Fuma tightened as he held the bite for a moment longer.

Kei drew back slowly, his lips slick with blood, before he pressed a kiss to the wound. His chest slick with sweat as it pressed to Fuma’s back, breath coming in ragged, shallow bursts. His arms wrapped instinctively around Fuma’s middle, holding him tight, holding him close - because even now, even after, it still didn’t feel close enough. He could feel his knot, fully swollen and locked in place, sealing them together in every possible way. Fuma’s body trembled beneath him, overworked and burning, yet soft and pliant in his arms. Kei buried his face into the space between Fuma’s shoulder blades, pressing his mouth there for a long, shaky breath.

“Sorry,” he whispered, voice hoarse. “Let me... hang on.”

He carefully shifted, mindful of the knot and of how sore Fuma must be, and managed to coax them gently onto their sides. His knot throbbed, snug and pulsing inside Fuma’s stretched body, but Kei didn’t move further. He just gathered Fuma into his arms, curling around him, wrapping himself like armor around the younger alpha’s trembling form.

His hand came up, fingers brushing the back of Fuma’s neck - right where his bite still bled slowly, the mark vivid and raw. Kei leaned in, and licked it clean. He kissed it next, soft and lingering, and then rested his forehead there, heart thudding heavily behind his ribs.

“You were perfect,” he whispered. “So good for me. So beautiful, Fuma.”

He felt the shiver in Fuma’s spine, the way his breath caught, how his fingers twitched where they clutched the sheets. Kei pressed another kiss to his mate’s shoulder.

“You took me so well. Every inch of you - you gave me everything. You trusted me with all of it. Thank you.”

It didn’t take long for Fuma to be out cold. Kei could feel the subtle shift in his body the second he relaxed, breath deepening, tension melting away. His snoring was soft, barely audible, just the occasional puff of air through parted lips - but to Kei, it was the sweetest sound in the world. They were still tangled together, sweat cooling between them, their legs draped in the mess of twisted sheets. Kei’s knot had begun to deflate, the slow pressure easing at last until it slipped free with a quiet, slick sound that made Kei shiver.

He blinked down at Fuma’s body, sated and slack with sleep, and his breath caught a little in his throat. Fuma’s hole was still stretched open, red and swollen and leaking with every bit of Kei’s release, slick and glistening down the backs of his thighs. His fingers twitched with instinct. He wanted to press his hand there, slide his fingers back in, keep everything inside where it belonged. Something primal coiled in his chest at the sight, possessive and sweet all at once. But Fuma was sleeping, finally still after giving so much of himself, so Kei wouldn’t wake him.

He slipped carefully out of bed, legs still a little shaky, muscles sore from everything they’d poured into each other. The room was quiet now, save for the sound of the breeze brushing against the slightly cracked window and the soft creak of the floor beneath his steps. In the bathroom, Kei found a clean cloth and ran it under warm water, squeezing it out before making his way back. Fuma hadn’t moved. His face was relaxed against the pillow, mouth slightly open, one hand still curled where it had grasped Kei’s earlier.

Kei crouched beside the bed and brushed his hand along the curve of Fuma’s hip, just to ground himself before he began. He was careful, slow and gentle, as he ran the warm cloth between Fuma’s thighs, wiping away the mess. He cleaned every inch with the kind of quiet devotion reserved for things that mattered more than words - his touch reverent, his love poured into each movement. When he was done, he tossed the cloth into the laundry basket and returned to bed, slipping back beneath the sheets and curling around his mate from behind. Kei pressed a kiss to Fuma’s bare shoulder, then to the top of the bite mark - still raw, but perfect.

When Fuma stirred slowly, surfacing from a sleep so deep it felt like the world had stopped turning for a few hours. His body ached in the best possible ways - his thighs sore, his lower back humming with the lingering echo of being stretched and filled. The scent of Kei still clung to his skin, stronger now, richer, woven into his own like a second skin.

He was warm, heavy with sleep and something softer, his mind foggy as he blinked lazily against the morning light filtering through the curtains. That’s when he noticed a wet heat wrapped around his cock, the slow, steady rhythm of someone moving over him with purposeful ease. Fuma’s hips twitched, a faint whimper escaping his lips before he could even fully register what was happening.

He blinked again, and when his eyes finally adjusted, he looked down and found Kei nestled between his legs, eyes half-lidded, mouth wrapped around him. At first, he thought it was a dream. It had to be. No way someone looked that good in the morning, hair tousled, bare shoulders flexing as he sucked him down like he’d been starving for it. But then Kei looked up, his eyes locking with Fuma’s, gaze dark and filled with heat, a soft smile tugging at the corners of his lips around Fuma’s length.

“Morning,” Kei murmured once he pulled off, breath warm against sensitive skin.

Fuma was fully awake now, flushed and wide-eyed, pulse thudding somewhere near his throat. “You -” he swallowed. “I thought I was dreaming.”

Kei chuckled, the sound low and pleased as he kissed the inside of Fuma’s thigh. “Not dreaming. Just couldn’t help myself.”

He licked a slow stripe along the underside of Fuma’s cock, hand curling gently around the base. “You looked too good…”

Fuma’s body trembled. “Kei…”

“I love taking care of you,” Kei whispered. “Let me?”

Fuma nodded before letting his head fall back against the pillow, one hand dragging over his flushed face as a shaky breath left his lungs. There was no better way to wake up. No alarm clock, no dream, no sunrise could ever compare to the feeling of his mate - his perfect, gorgeous mate - worshiping him like this, lips stretched around him, warm and wet and hungry.

Kei moved like he already knew every inch of him, like he’d memorized Fuma’s reactions and carved them into muscle memory. His mouth was slow and deep, tongue dragging deliberate strokes along the underside of Fuma’s cock, hand stroking gently at the base to keep the rhythm going.

Fuma moaned and Kei’s eyes fluttered shut for a moment, like he was the one being pleasured, and then Fuma noticed the subtle movement of the older alpha’s arm. The way his hips rocked slightly in time with his strokes. He lifted his head, breath catching as he realized what Kei was doing. His mate was touching himself. One hand on Fuma, the other behind him, moving with slow, practiced intent. Fuma’s lips parted in awe. Kei was moaning around him now - quiet, humming vibrations that sent jolts of pleasure up Fuma’s spine. His back arched slightly, thighs tensing, as the pleasure built hard and fast in his gut.

“Kei…” he breathed, voice raw. “You’re - God, you’re unreal.”

Kei pulled back just enough to murmur, voice low and rough, “Wanna ride you.”

His tall frame unfolded with practiced ease as he climbed over Fuma, knees bracketing his hips, thighs trembling slightly with anticipation. His hands found Fuma’s chest for balance, fingers splaying over his heart like he was trying to feel every beat of it. The younger alpha looked up, heart thudding wildly in his chest. Kei’s hair was mussed, his lips flushed and pink from earlier, and his expression was wrecked and radiant all at once.

“Are you sure?” Fuma asked, voice hoarse, reverent.

Kei nodded once, pupils blown wide. He reached behind himself, guiding Fuma in, and the younger alpha hissed through his teeth, fingers clenching instinctively at Kei’s thighs as he felt the hot, slick pressure of him. Kei’s breath caught as he sank down, inch by inch, slow and careful and with a quiet, desperate sound in his throat. His head tipped back, muscles trembling, his hands tightening on Fuma’s chest as he took him in fully, stretching open around him, body made to fit him like this. The younger alpha’s hands slid up to his waist, squeezing gently, thumbs brushing over the warm skin where his hips curved.

“You feel… incredible,” he whispered, awe thick in his voice.

Kei moaned softly, bottoming out with a slow shudder, the burn giving way to fullness. He leaned forward, bracing himself with one hand while the other found the side of Fuma’s neck, thumb brushing over the faint bite mark there. The stretch was intense - deep and full - but it wasn’t too much. It never was, not with Fuma. His mate was thick, yes, and he could feel every inch of him, pulsing inside, but Kei welcomed the ache, welcomed the slow pull that grounded him in the moment.

He planted both hands flat against Fuma’s chest, fingers splayed wide, and slowly lifted himself up. Fuma’s hands tightened around his waist, thumbs brushing reverently over the dip of his hips as the older alpha sank back down with a shuddering breath, letting the drag of Fuma’s cock stretch him all over again.

“Kei…” Fuma groaned, head falling back against the pillow. “You feel... baby, you feel perfect.”

Kei didn’t speak; he couldn’t. His jaw slackened as he repeated the motion, lifting his hips again, slow and careful, sweat glistening down the curve of his spine. He let himself fall into the rhythm, one hand gripping harder onto Fuma’s chest now, fingernails digging in, leaving faint half-moons behind. Fuma’s dark eyes were locked on Kei’s face - his parted lips, the way his brows knit together when the stretch was just a little too good, and then lower, to his neck. That beautiful, slender neck, damp with sweat and tipped back in pleasure. Fuma’s body tensed with the urge to reach up and drag him down, to bite, to claim, to make it forever.

Kei’s thighs flexed, strong and trembling, and he whimpered, breath catching as Fuma's cock hit just right. His fingers dragged down Fuma’s chest, nails leaving faint red trails in their wake, and the younger alpha gasped, hips twitching upward.

“You’re...” Kei tried to speak, but the words caught in his throat. “You’re so deep…”

Fuma sat up slightly, propping himself on his elbows, his hands never leaving the older alpha’s waist. “You look so good, baby,” he murmured, eyes fixed to that pale, glistening neck. “So good riding me. Taking me like that, like you were made for this.”

Kei moaned, head tilting back again, and that was it. One moment, he was in control, his strong thighs working his mate through a slow, agonizing rhythm, his fingers digging into Fuma’s chest, sweat beading along his skin in the golden morning light. Then Fuma sat up - hands firm on Kei’s hips, arms wrapping tight around his waist - and thrust upward with a force that knocked the air straight from Kei’s lungs.

“F-Fuma!” Kei gasped, voice pitching as he dropped forward, hands clutching at Fuma’s shoulders for balance. His body jolted at the impact, eyes flying wide as Fuma’s cock slammed directly into his prostate, hitting that spot inside him with devastating precision. His head fell against Fuma’s shoulder with a loud, unfiltered moan.

Fuma’s arms tightened, one hand sliding up his spine to cradle the back of his head, the other steady at the curve of his waist. He thrust again, deeper, and harder, his cock stretching Kei open in a way that felt impossible, like he was being filled in places no one else had ever reached.

“Kei,” Fuma breathed, voice trembling with restraint. “You’re so tight. So fucking perfect like this.”

Kei’s body shook in his arms, the pleasure sharp and overwhelming. His thighs trembled where they straddled Fuma’s hips, and he could barely lift himself anymore, not when Fuma kept thrusting up into him, over and over, driving so deep he felt owned. He couldn’t think. All he could do was hold on. Fuma’s mouth found his shoulder, pressing kiss after kiss into sweat-damp skin.

“You feel that?” He whispered, voice rough with heat. “How deep I am?”

Kei nodded weakly, forehead still pressed to Fuma’s skin. “Yes - yes, baby, I feel it, don’t stop.”

Fuma kept his arms around Kei like a grounding point, driving up into him in long, powerful strokes, his eyes fluttering closed from how tight, how warm, how utterly perfect it all felt. The sounds Kei made - the broken moans, the whimpers, the way he cried out every time Fuma hit that spot - only drove him closer to the edge.

Kei didn’t even realize he was crying at first. He only knew that the pleasure had surged so violently through him, it became too much for his body to contain. It tore through him - sharp, white-hot, and consuming - like his body didn’t know how to hold something so deep, so devastatingly good. His voice cracked, splitting into a hoarse scream as his orgasm ripped through him. He came hard, his entire body seizing in Fuma’s arms, his release painting both of their chests, his thighs trembling violently around Fuma’s waist. Tears streaked his cheeks, hot and sudden, and he gasped in ragged sobs, breath hitched in his throat as the aftershocks rolled through him.

Fuma, still holding him tight, stilled his thrusts just for a moment. Then his lips were on Kei’s cheek, his tongue licking gently along the tear track, his breath soft as he whispered, “You’re okay. I’ve got you, baby.”

Kei whimpered, barely able to respond, the intensity still wracking his system, making his body tremble. Fuma kissed his temple next, and then lower, pressing his lips to the corner of Kei’s mouth - where saliva had begun to spill down his chin from how wrecked he was. Fuma licked it up. And then he kissed Kei hard, sliding his tongue into his mouth, moaning against him as their lips sealed together, mouths sticky and open and desperate. His mate kissed him back, what little strength he had pouring into that one motion, his body limp in Fuma’s arms, still twitching from aftershocks.

Fuma moved to bury his face in Kei’s shoulder, groaning low as he thrust harder, chasing his own release with a desperation that felt primal now. His arms curled tighter around Kei’s waist, locking him in place, and every pump of his hips drove him closer to the edge. With one last, brutal thrust, Fuma came, crying out against Kei’s neck as his body gave in completely - cock buried to the hilt, releasing deep inside his mate.

His mouth found Kei’s scent gland before he even realized it - drawn there by instinct and something ancient in his blood. He licked once, tasting salt and skin and home, then opened his mouth and bit down hard, his sharp teeth sinking deep into that perfect spot. Kei’s whole body jerked in his arms, a broken moan punched from his lungs. His fingers dug into Fuma’s back, clutching at him, grounding himself as the bond clicked into place.

The sun had risen higher in the sky, casting soft, golden light across the tangled sheets, but Fuma and Kei lay still in the middle of it all wrapped around each other, limbs entwined, bodies still humming from the bond now humming quietly beneath their skin.

Fuma was on his back, eyes half-lidded, his fingers combing lazily through his mate’s hair while Kei lay sprawled across his chest, one leg hooked over his hip, his cheek resting just over his mate’s heart. They hadn’t said much since the bond was sealed - words felt too small for what had passed between them. Instead, they kissed, slow and unhurried. Kisses were pressed to cheeks, lips, jawlines. Fuma leaned down to press another one - right to the center of Kei’s forehead, soft and lingering. Kei smiled, eyes fluttering open, lashes brushing against Fuma’s skin as he looked up at him with the kind of fondness that made Fuma feel like his whole body was glowing.

“I made breakfast, by the way” Kei mumbled, voice thick with sleep and contentment.

Fuma blinked. “You what?”

Kei huffed a quiet laugh. “Before you woke up. I got up, made coffee, scrambled eggs, and then I…” He trailed off, his smirk returning. “...got distracted.”

Fuma grinned, pressing a kiss to his temple. “You mean you got horny.”

“Semantics.”

Fuma could imagine the coffee sitting lukewarm in the pot and the eggs, probably rubbery by now, abandoned on plates in the kitchen. He chuckled softly, brushing the pad of his thumb across Kei’s cheek.

“Cold breakfast’s a small price to pay for being absolutely ruined by you.”

Kei tilted his head to nip at Fuma’s jaw. “You’re lucky I love you.”

“You’re lucky I’m too hungry to pin you down again.”

“Don’t tempt me. I can already feel your cock twitching, and I swear I can’t walk straight right now.” The older alpha groaned dramatically, burying his face in Fuma’s chest.

Kei sat on the edge of the kitchen counter, legs swinging slightly, fingers curled around a warm mug of coffee. The sunlight streamed in through the windows, turning the space into a soft gold haze, the kind that made everything feel a little slower, a little dreamier, like the moment itself had decided to take a breath.

Across the kitchen, Fuma stood at the stove, repeating the breakfast his mate had made earlier. He hummed to himself under his breath, something tuneless and lazy, and he moved like he had all the time in the world. When Fuma glanced over his shoulder, to where Kei was sitting and wearing one of his own oversized shirts. It hung loosely off his shoulders, the collar slipping wide to reveal a peek of skin, and just below that, a faintly scabbed-over bite mark, raw and still healing.

His mate. The words floated through his head like they were brand new, like they’d never belonged to him until now. My mate.

Fuma never thought those words would feel so good. Growing up, “mating” had always been described with a kind of forced reverence. It was framed like duty, like a checklist to complete in order to be taken seriously in life: find an omega, settle down, contribute to the legacy. Obligation, not love. But Kei was a miracle, an exception. He was a gift wrapped in teasing grins and warm eyes and patient hands. And now, Fuma could feel him through the bond, that quiet thrum at the base of his chest, the warm thread that pulsed between them like the bassline of a favorite song. Kei caught Fuma’s gaze and smirked as the younger set two plates down on the table.

“You’re staring,” he giggled.

Fuma didn’t look away. “Yeah. I am.”

Kei raised an eyebrow, clearly amused, but he didn’t say anything else as his mate stepped close enough to slide between his legs, pressing his hands to the counter on either side of his hips. The kiss he leaned in for was soft and slow, their foreheads resting together by the end of it.

“I like you like this,” Kei murmured. “All soft-eyed and dreamy.”

Fuma huffed a quiet laugh. “I’m just… thinking.”

“About?”

Fuma’s hands came to rest on Kei’s waist, thumbs brushing the fabric of the shirt. “About how I used to think being mated was supposed to feel like giving something up. But with you…” He swallowed, voice suddenly thick. “It feels like I’ve been given everything.”

Kei blinked. His lips parted but for a second, no words came out. Then, gently, he pressed a kiss to Fuma’s temple. “That’s because you have.”

After breakfast, well, lunch at this point, they decided to go on a walk to help digest their food and stretch sore muscles. The air was crisp as they walked, the sun warm on their skin while the breeze kept the summer heat from becoming too much. Kei’s fingers were laced through Fuma’s, swinging gently between them with each lazy step they took along the narrow forest path just outside the beach town. It was quiet, their only company were the birds overhead and the crunch of gravel under their shoes.

They stopped at a clearing where the trees opened up just enough to see the ocean glittering in the distance. Kei tugged him close, arms looping lazily around Fuma’s neck, the sunlight catching in his soft brown hair. Fuma couldn’t help it - he fished his phone out of his pocket, switching to the front camera.

“Smile,” he said.

Kei leaned in and pressed their cheeks together, lips curved in a soft, sleepy grin as the shutter clicked. The photo was perfect. Both of them were flushed from the sun and smiling in that way only people deeply in love could smile. The marks on their necks - twin mating bites, scabbed but unmistakable - were clearly visible, front and center.

With a crooked smile, he opened their group chat - Kevin, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Chan, and Minho all tucked under one chaotic thread named “Suffer Together” - and dropped the photo in with zero context.

Fuma glanced at Kei. “Should I tell them the rest?”

Kei smirked, looking far too pleased with himself. “Nah, let them stay guessing”

After the initial chaos of the group chat calmed, at least somewhat, Kei glanced down at the photo again. It was still open on his phone, still glowing in the soft afternoon light. His arm wrapped tightly around Fuma’s waist, both of them smiling without even trying to. And their matching bite marks… clear as day.

He nudged Fuma gently with his elbow. “We should probably tell our families. Officially.”

Fuma turned to him, brows lifted. “You first.”

Kei smirked. “Coward.”

“I just want to watch yours blow up first.”

Kei chuckled and tapped out a quick message to his parents, attaching the same photo and a simple caption: We did it. He barely had time to lock his screen before his phone vibrated again - this time with an incoming call.

“Of course,” he muttered, putting it on speaker.

“Kei!” his mother’s voice came through, bright and bubbling with joy. “You bit him?! Finally?!”

Kei laughed, running a hand through his hair. “Hi, Mom.”

“We’re so happy for you,” s he continued without missing a beat. “And tell Fuma we love him, too!”

“I’m right here,” Fuma said, trying not to laugh.

“Even better! Sweetheart, congratulations. Both of you.” Her voice softened, warm with genuine affection. “You’ve chosen so well.”

“Thanks, Mom,” Kei said quietly. “I really have.”

While Kei was still talking with his parents, Fuma opened a new message thread and sent the photo off to his sister. Yui’s response came seconds later.

[Yui]
OH MY GOD
FINALLY
CONGRATS
LOVE YOU BOTH!!!

The next morning, the sun rose slowly and warm over the cottage, gold light slipping through the curtains and across the tangle of limbs in their bed. Fuma woke first, pressed close to Kei, their bodies still sticky with sleep and leftover affection. They took their time getting ready for the day with sleepy kisses, lazy stretches, and shared coffee on the porch before finally throwing on hoodies and sneakers and heading out for a short hike. The trail wasn’t far from town, just a worn dirt path that disappeared into the woods, marked with faded signs and the promise of a scenic overlook. Kei clutched a granola bar in one hand and swatting bugs with the other.

“You sure this isn’t, like, a two-hour trek that ends in disappointment?” he asked, stepping over a moss-covered root.

“If it is, I’ll carry you down the hill like a tragic little princess.” Fuma snorted.

“Excuse you,” Kei said, grinning. “I’m a majestic wood nymph at worst.”

The path wound gently upward, weaving through tall trees and over patches of smooth rock where their shoes crunched and slid. Sunlight flickered through the canopy overhead, dappling Kei’s skin in patches of light that made him look golden. Fuma walked a step behind, watching him. His gaze caught on the soft curls of Kei’s hair sticking out from under his baseball cap, the way his broad shoulders rolled with every step, how he occasionally turned back just to make sure Fuma was still there.

They reached the overlook just as the breeze picked up, rustling through the trees around them. Kei walked to the edge and sat, legs dangling, hoodie sleeves pushed to his elbows. Fuma joined him, stretching his legs out beside him. The lookout opened up like the edge of the world. From where they sat on the flat, sun-warmed rock, the trees fell away in a sweeping cascade of green, dense forest rolling down the hillside in waves. The branches below danced in the breeze, leaves catching the sunlight and flashing like coins, a living sea of green that stretched all the way out to the distant horizon.

Beyond the trees, far down in the valley, little houses dotted the forest edge - tiny specks from up this high with narrow roads winding like ribbons between them. Further out, where the hills flattened, the ocean took over, a deep blue mirror, shimmering under the late morning sun. The sea met the sky in a soft blur, almost indistinguishable except for the faint sparkle of waves and the occasional shape of a fishing boat gliding across the water like a forgotten thought. Gulls circled far off in the distance, their cries muted by height and wind.

The breeze was stronger up here. It carried the crisp scent of pine, damp earth, and salt from the ocean. It tugged gently at Fuma's hair and the edge of Kei's shirt, curling around them like an invisible tether, holding them steady at the precipice of something vast and quiet. Above them, the blue sky was broken only by soft, cottony clouds that drifted slowly, lazily, like they had all the time in the world.

Kei turned to him and said, “Hey.”

Fuma looked over. “Yeah?”

His mate leaned in and kissed him. When they broke apart, Kei kept their foreheads pressed together, noses brushing, his voice low.

“I don’t think I ever want to go home.”

Fuma smiled and took his hand. “Then we won’t. We’ll just live in the woods like cryptids. Raise squirrels. Start a moss garden.”

“Deal,” Kei whispered, grinning as he leaned into his side.

And for a long while, they just sat there - two bonded souls, surrounded by trees, warmed by sunlight, hearts beating steady and in sync.

The sky was starting to turn gray when they arrived at the marina, clouds thick and low but not yet threatening rain. The wind whipped in off the sea in strong bursts, making the dock creak and the moored boats sway gently in their slips. Fuma pulled the hood of his windbreaker tighter around his face and grinned as he caught sight of their charter boat which was modest, well-worn, and bobbing cheerfully against the current. Kei followed beside him, hands shoved into the pockets of his own jacket, eyes squinting against the wind.

“You know,” he muttered, “most people book sunset cruises or wine-and-cheese sails during their honeymoon, not fishing trips during a storm watch.”

Fuma bumped his shoulder playfully. “Don’t be dramatic. It’s not a storm. Just a little breeze.”

“Tell that to my hair,” Kei grumbled, his bangs already windswept and in his eyes.

Still, he climbed aboard willingly, following Fuma and the small handful of other passengers as they were greeted by the captain and handed safety briefings and gear. Once the boat pulled away from the dock, the water grew choppier, not dangerously so, but enough that Kei braced himself against the railing and shot Fuma a look that said this was your idea. Fuma, on the other hand, looked giddy. He stood at the edge of the boat with his fishing rod in hand, eyes scanning the water like he was a wolf about to pounce.

“There’s something peaceful about it,” he said over the wind.

Kei gave him a skeptical side glance. “Your hood keeps blowing off and your glasses are fogging up.”

Fuma pushed the glasses up his nose and grinned. “Adds to the vibe.”

The captain eventually anchored a few kilometers offshore, the boat drifting in a wide loop as they were given the go-ahead to drop their lines. Fuma moved quickly, baiting his hook like it was second nature, movements confident and practiced. Kei stayed back at first, watching the way Fuma’s brows furrowed as he cast, how his expression shifted into quiet focus. There was something softly beautiful about it. About watching someone you love do something they love, fully immersed, completely unbothered by the cold, the wind, or the tug of clouds overhead.

“Caught anything yet?” Kei called after a while.

Fuma didn’t look up. “Not yet. Be patient.”

Kei chuckled, zipping his jacket higher as a gust of wind hit the boat. “You know we could’ve done something less... freezing.”

“And missed this?” Fuma said, finally turning to grin at him. “Come on. Tell me this isn’t kind of nice.”

Kei walked over and stood behind him, arms slipping around Fuma’s waist as he rested his chin lightly on his shoulder. “It is,” he admitted. “Though I think the best part is watching you get excited every time your line tugs.”

“If I catch something, you’re gutting it.” Fuma smiled.

“Absolutely not.” Kei pretended to gag, burying his face into the collar of Fuma’s windbreaker. They stood like that for a while, with wind tugging at their jackets, water lapping gently below them, and the occasional distant cry of a gull.

Fuma didn’t catch anything that day but when they headed back toward the shore, cheeks windburned and fingers chilled, he looked happy so Kei knew the attempt was worth the effort anyways. By the time they returned to the cottage, the wind had died down and the rain never came. There was just a low hum of thunder off somewhere in the distance, enough to make the windows fog and the air feel cozy. Kei peeled off his windbreaker and hung it near the door while Fuma was already barefoot in the kitchen, sleeves rolled up, digging through the paper grocery bags they’d picked up earlier in the week.

“You’re moving like a man with a mission,” Kei said, leaning against the counter.

Fuma looked up, grinning. “Because I am. I didn’t catch any fish today, so I need to redeem myself by making the perfect pasta.”

Kei raised an eyebrow. “You’re telling me you’re about to cook without a recipe?”

Fuma reached for the pot, filled it, and set it to boil. “I’m about to cook with vibes.”

Kei crossed the kitchen slowly, arms looping around Fuma’s waist from behind as he rested his chin on his shoulder. “That’s what worries me.”

They worked side by side, bumping hips, nudging each other out of the way in the tiny kitchen like they’d been doing it for years. Kei grated parmesan and chopped garlic while Fuma sautéed onions and added tomatoes to the pan, taste-testing with a wooden spoon that he held out dramatically for Kei to try.

“More salt,” Kei said after a thoughtful pause. Fuma skipped adding any more on purpose, just to make his mate roll his eyes.

There was music playing low from Fuma’s phone on the windowsill - something acoustic and slow, the kind of background warmth that slipped into the air like a sigh. Outside, the clouds had turned the sky a soft blue-gray, and the light filtering in through the windows. The pasta came together quickly and was simple, spicy, and rich. They plated up two generous portions and brought them to the table by the front window, where the forest view was still hazy with mist. Fuma lit the stubby candle they’d found in the drawer the day before, and Kei gave him a look.

“What?” Fuma asked.

Kei shook his head, smile tugging at his lips. “You’re just... good at this.”

Fuma raised an eyebrow. “Cooking?”

“No.” Kei reached across the table, fingers brushing over his. “This. Us being here. Making it feel like home.”

Fuma went quiet for a moment, then said softly, “I think it’s just because you’re here.”

Kei blinked, warmth blooming in his chest. He squeezed Fuma’s hand.

They ate slow, talking between bites, sharing food from each other’s plates despite both dishes being identical. When they finished, Kei stood up first to start clearing the dishes, but Fuma tugged him back by the wrist.

“Let’s leave them for now,” he murmured.

Kei glanced toward the sink, hesitant. “But they’ll -”

“Later,” Fuma said, standing and drawing him close. “Come sit with me. Just for a bit.”

After dinner and dishes were left behind, they poured two glasses of red wine, grabbed the thickest throw blanket from the back of the couch, and stepped out onto the back porch. The screen door creaked as it opened, the cool night air meeting them like a breath held too long. Far out over the ocean, the sky flickered like a slow pulse, sheets of distant lightning lighting up the low clouds like lanterns under water. Fuma draped the blanket over the both of them as they sat on the wide wooden chair swing, its soft creak beneath their weight the only sound besides the rustling of the trees. Kei curled into his side, head resting against Fuma’s shoulder, one leg tucked under the other.

The horizon stretched out endlessly in front of them, that vast line where the forest dropped away and the sea began. Even in the dark, they could see the water glimmering with the reflection of lightning, then darkening again. The storm moved slow, with no thunder yet, just that strange silence that made the air feel heavy and sacred. Fuma took a slow sip of his wine and glanced down at Kei beside him. The older alpha’s eyes were half-lidded, his breath soft.

“This is my favorite part of the trip,” Fuma said suddenly.

Kei looked up at him, blinking slow. “You said that yesterday.”

Fuma smiled. “And I’ll probably say it again tomorrow.”

Kei turned into him more, tucking his face against Fuma’s neck. “Then I hope we have a thousand tomorrows.”

Fuma wrapped his arm tighter around Kei and let his chin rest on top of soft brown hair, letting the silence stretch between them again. Out over the ocean, the lightning lit up the sky again, this time a little closer. The breeze had picked up too, cool and a little damp, tugging gently at the hem of their blanket. Fuma reached for Kei’s wine glass and took it from him carefully, setting both their glasses on the small side table beside them. Then he shifted, just slightly, so he could pull Kei fully into his lap, legs tangled and blanket wrapped around them like a cocoon. Kei just exhaled and tucked himself closer.

The swing creaked gently beneath them, the blanket still draped over their legs, their bodies pressed close as the night stretched on. The storm was creeping nearer now, the distant flashes brighter, the wind a little heavier, brushing cool fingers through Kei’s hair where it fell into his eyes. Fuma ran his hand absentmindedly up and down Kei’s back, fingers tracing over his spine like he couldn’t help it.

“Got a message from my mom earlier,” Kei murmured. “About Taki.”

Fuma hummed low in acknowledgment, his hand stilling.

“She said they’ll bring him down next week. Probably Sunday.”

Fuma let the weight of them sink in. Next week. Suddenly, the end of their trip felt closer than either of them wanted to admit.

He tilted his head, letting his cheek press against the top of Kei’s head. “He’s really coming to stay, huh?”

“Yeah.”

They were both quiet again for a moment, the creak of the swing, the soft hush of waves, and the occasional distant crack of thunder filling the space between their words.

“He’s fourteen now,” Kei added after a while, like he was trying to convince himself it wasn’t that much of an age gap between them. “Eight years younger than us.”

Fuma smiled faintly, brushing a kiss to Kei’s temple. “Basically a pup.”

Kei huffed a soft laugh. “Yeah. And… not exactly having the best time at home right now.”

His voice wavered just slightly at that - something tender and protective curling in the sound of it. Fuma already knew bits and pieces. He’d heard Kei’s parents talk about it in passing. How the pup’s home life was... tense. Too many arguments. Too many slammed doors. Too many times the kid had been left to figure things out alone.

Kei let out a long breath. “They think maybe staying with us… might be a good change of scenery. Something different.”

Fuma’s hand drifted down to Kei’s waist, squeezing gently. “We’ll make sure it is.”

The older alpha looked up at him, eyes wide and tired but glowing in the soft light from the porch.

“You think we’re ready for that?” he asked, and there was a flicker of vulnerability in his voice that Fuma rarely heard from him.

Fuma leaned in, pressing their foreheads together. “Of course we are. We’ve got endless patience, love and countless amount of video games”

Kei huffed a quiet laugh. “Yeah. You’re right.”

Fuma smiled softly, brushing his thumb over Kei’s jaw, his heart swelling in that way it always did when he thought about the pack they’d talked about building - the one they were already starting.

“It’s not about being perfect, Kei,” he murmured. “It’s about showing him what safe feels like.”

Kei swallowed hard, his hand sliding under the blanket to squeeze Fuma’s thigh. “We’ll give him that.”

The idea of bringing someone else into their little bubble felt like the next step forward. Fuma lay awake long after Kei had drifted off beside him, curled up under the blanket on the porch swing, the distant storm crackling over the ocean like a lullaby they weren’t quite ready to fall asleep to. Kei’s breathing had evened out, soft and steady, his face pressed into the crook of Fuma’s shoulder, arms still looped loosely around his waist. Even in sleep, Kei clung to him like gravity, like he was something to hold onto in the dark.

Fuma stared out at the sea, at the way the lightning split the sky into fractured glass. He didn’t talk much about his own parents anymore. There were parts that still stung if he thought about them too long. The way they always made him feel like he was broken for wanting something different. For not following the rules. For not fitting into the tiny box they’d tried to shove him into.

He knew what it felt like to be the kid left in the corner of the house, to be told to stop asking for things that were “unrealistic”, to be made to feel like his needs were inconveniences. He knew the ache of being raised by people who never once stopped to wonder what he wanted. And he’d sworn deep in his bones that he would never be like that. That when it was his turn, when he had people in his care, he would be the one who made them feel safe, and wanted. Always.

Fuma glanced down at Kei, peaceful and soft in his arms. They’d built this little life together. And now, they were going to open it up, make room for one more. They were ready.

Taki might not trust them at first, and that was okay. Fuma didn’t need him to. All he needed was for the kid to feel that when he was here, he didn’t have to look over his shoulder. That there was no yelling in these walls. No expectations he couldn’t meet. No conditions for being loved.

On their last day in town, the crowds had gotten busier as the afternoon stretched on, the golden haze of late sun softening the edges of everything around them. Fuma had been quieter the past few blocks, head tilted down, phone in hand, his attention clearly locked on something. Kei slowed his pace, glancing over curiously. And there it was - his boyfriend, dead serious, nose scrunched up in concentration, flicking his thumb across the screen of his phone.

“Are you... playing Pokémon Go?” the older alpha asked, incredulous.

Fuma didn’t look up. “Yeah. There’s a raid down the block. I’m trying to solo it.”

Kei burst out laughing, loud enough that a couple walking past them turned to stare.

“God, you’re such a nerd,” He teased, slinging an arm casually over Fuma’s shoulders as they walked, half to pull him closer, half to throw him off his game.

Fuma huffed, swatting at him but still refusing to tear his eyes away from the screen. “Says the guy who cried when his starter evolved.”

“That was an emotional moment!” Kei protested, mock-offended, though his grin gave him away.

Fuma finally glanced up, rolling his eyes, but his smile betrayed him too. “Grind never stops, babe.”

Kei shook his head fondly. “Unbelievable. We’re supposed to be enjoying our honeymoon and you’re over here playing Pokémon.”

“I’m multitasking,” Fuma defended. “Maybe Taki plays too.”

Kei snorted. “Yeah, okay. You’re gonna bond with him over Charizards and Pikachu now?”

Fuma shrugged. “Could work.”

“Fine,” Kei said, tightening his hold around Fuma’s shoulders. “But if you trip over a curb trying to catch a Snorlax, I’m not carrying your ass back to the cottage.”

“Liar,” Fuma said, smirking.

Kei grinned, leaning in to brush a quick kiss to his cheek. “Yeah. Probably.”

They kept walking, Fuma’s phone still in his hand, and Kei’s arm still over his shoulder. They strolled around like they had all the time in the world, the conversation drifting into easy, lazy teasing about what starter Pokémon Taki would probably pick.

They wandered until the smell of fresh waffle cones lured them to a small, old-fashioned ice cream stand tucked between two souvenir shops. The kind of place that proudly boasted “Best ice cream in town” on a faded hand-painted sign. Kei ordered the biggest double-scoop they had - caramel and vanilla - while Fuma stuck to something classic like chocolate, only to immediately steal bites of Kei’s when he wasn’t looking.  They sat on a low stone wall just off the boardwalk, the sea stretching wide and endless in front of them. Kei was mid-lick, watching the waves, when Fuma’s phone vibrated again.

Fuma grinned, pulling out his phone. “Oh, there’s a gym right by that surf shop down the street. Bet I can solo this one too.”

Kei groaned dramatically. “Seriously? Again?”

“C’mon,” Fuma teased, elbowing him. “What else are we doing? Besides, you need to redeem yourself after last time.”

Kei rolled his eyes, but when Fuma turned his wide, puppy eyes on him, he caved.

“Fine,” The older alpha huffed, pulling his phone out of his pocket and scooted closer, bumping shoulders with him as they opened the app together, their ice cream cones still dripping into their free hands.

Fuma pointed at the screen, explaining strategy like Kei hadn’t already played this with him a hundred times before. But Kei let him ramble and show off. Because if there was one thing Kei couldn’t resist, it was seeing Fuma get all bright-eyed and competitive over something as dumb as Pokémon. They battled side by side, trash-talking each other like they weren’t supposed to be on the same team.

“You’re the worst teammate,” Kei said between bites of his cone, grinning as his avatar fainted on-screen.

When they finally beat the raid, Fuma held his phone up triumphantly.

“Victory,” he declared as Kei laughed, leaning into him.

They lingered there for a while, letting the sun sink lower, the sky shifting into golds and soft pinks. Fuma watched as Kei wiped a smudge of melted ice cream from the corner of his mouth, eyes soft, smile easy. And in that moment, with half-melted cones and phones still glowing in their laps, Fuma was hit with a wave of deja vu. He blinked slowly, the sound of the ocean, the smell of salt and sugar, the sticky cold of his ice cream against his tongue as this moment transported him back to last summer that felt like a lifetime ago.

Before they confessed, before they mated, before Fuma stopped running from the truth that had been gnawing at him for years. Back then, they’d been just best friends. Fuma remembered that trip all too clearly - how Kei had invited him down to stay with his family for a few days in his hometown, how they’d spent their days around town exploring and playing Pokémon Go until their phones died. And then, after one particularly long, sweaty day running around the town chasing raids, they’d ended up getting ice cream. They’d sat just like this, shoulders brushing, sharing bites of each other’s cones like it wasn’t the most painfully obvious thing in the world that they were more than friends. He swallowed hard, the old ache of that moment pressing into his chest like a bruise.

Now they were here, doing the same thing, phones still glowing between them, ice cream still melting down their hands, the air still thick with summer sweetness. But this time, Kei’s hand was on his thigh and his soft gaze flickered toward him like he was the only thing worth looking at in the world. Fuma smiled softly to himself, shaking his head at how far they’d come.

Fuma let the quiet settle between them as they finished the last bites of their ice cream, the stickiness of it lingering on their hands, the sweetness coating his lips. The salty air tangled in their hair as the sky deepened into soft violet and indigo. Kei’s cone was half-finished now, the ice cream melting fast in the heat. He offered it to his mate, wordlessly, just like he had countless times before.

Fuma took the cone from Kei, but then he also reached for his hand, catching the older off guard. Kei blinked, confused at first but then Fuma’s tongue darted out, licking the sticky remnants of melted vanilla and caramel from the older alpha’s fingers, slow and deliberate. Kei’s breath hitched audibly, his playful grin faltering into something darker, hungrier. Fuma kept his gaze locked on him, lips brushing the tips of his mate’s fingers as he licked them clean, tasting the sweetness mixed with Kei’s familiar skin.

“Fuma...” Kei’s voice cracked low, breath shivering out between parted lips.

Fuma tilted his head, letting the heat simmer between them, playful but edged with something more. “

What?” he murmured, feigning innocence, though his pupils were blown wide, and his scent thickened with clear intent.

Kei’s eyes darkened, his throat bobbing as he swallowed hard. Maybe it was the way the last rays of the setting sun caught in Fuma’s dark hair, or maybe it was the way his scent was curling around Kei like a hand wrapped tight around his chest, pulling, pulling, always pulling. Kei leaned in, gripping Fuma’s jaw with one hand, and pressed their lips together. His mate reciprocated, kissing the older alpha like it was his damn job, lips parting easily, breath catching in his throat as Kei pulled him closer, close enough that their ice cream-sticky hands tangled between them.

The sounds of the town carried on around them as families chatted, couples walking by, the distant squeal of kids playing on the beach but in that moment, Fuma could’ve been standing in the middle of the busiest street in the world and he wouldn’t have given a single fuck. When they finally pulled apart, Kei’s pupils were blown wide, his breath coming hard, the tips of his ears flushed pink.

“Fuck,” Kei whispered, leaning his forehead against Fuma’s. “You’re such a tease.”

They walked hand in hand back along the shoreline, the waves lazily licking at their feet, the air thick with the scent of salt and the lingering sweetness of melted ice cream. Their fingers were still a little sticky from their cones, but neither of them bothered to wipe it away. Kei’s hand fit perfectly in Fuma’s, a little warm, a little messy, just like them.

The sunset stretched out across the horizon, streaks of deep orange and pink bleeding into the darkening sky. The last few stragglers on the beach kept their distance, giving them space as they strolled slowly, bumping shoulders, sharing quiet laughter, brushing lips over and over again like they were the only two people in the world. Every time Fuma leaned in to steal a kiss, Kei leaned in more. The kisses grew heavier as they got closer to the cottage. Kei’s lips tasted like caramel and salt and something that was entirely him - that earthy, grounding alpha scent that always pulled Fuma under.

Fuma let his fingers thread through the loops of Kei’s shorts as they walked, keeping him close, like he was afraid if he let go for even a second, Kei would drift away with the tide. They reached the stone steps that led up from the beach, winding back to their little slice of stolen peace. The path was narrow, old stones worn smooth from years of salt and foot traffic, a rusted metal railing on one side. The steps cut through a dense patch of tangled shrubs, wildflowers blooming defiantly in the crevices, giving the cottage a natural curtain of privacy. There wasn’t much of a backyard, just a messy sprawl of foliage and the kind of untamed greenery.

The thick greenery wrapped around the cottage like a wall, the shrubs and overgrown wildflowers offering more privacy than Fuma had realized when they first arrived. The sun dipped lower, casting the whole space in gold-tipped shadows, the only sounds the distant rush of the waves and the whisper of the evening breeze rustling through the foliage. Kei must’ve realized it too because before Fuma could so much as take a step toward the door, Kei spun him around, backing him up until his lower back bumped against the weathered railing. The breath punched out of him as his mate loomed in close, crowding into his space, hands bracing on either side of him, their bodies pressed flush.

“Thought you could get away with that, huh?” Kei murmured, voice dropping an octave, thick and rough and curling against Fuma’s ear like a touch all its own.

Fuma smirked, tilting his chin up just enough to meet Kei’s heated gaze. “What? Finishing your ice cream? You weren’t gonna eat it anyway.”

Kei huffed a laugh, but his eyes darkened, that familiar flash of possessiveness flickering to the surface. “Not the ice cream, dumbass.”

He brushed his thumb over Fuma’s bottom lip, smearing the last trace of stickiness there before slipping the digit between his lips, slow, deliberate. Fuma’s tongue flicked against it without hesitation, sucking it into his mouth like he owned it because, well, he kind of did now. Kei’s breath hitched, pupils blowing wide, his throat bobbing with a rough swallow.

“You’re such a damn tease,” Kei whispered against his lips, voice frayed at the edges with restraint. “Licking my fingers like that... what, you thought I wouldn’t react?”

Fuma grinned around his finger, letting it slide from his mouth with a soft pop. “Maybe I did,” he said, voice thick with smugness. “What are you gonna do about it?”

Kei groaned low, letting his forehead drop to Fuma’s, their noses brushing, lips ghosting against each other.

“You’re lucky we’re outside, or I’d already have you bent over the railing.” Kei promised, his voice little more than a growl now, vibrating between them.

Fuma’s grin didn’t falter. “Who says you can’t? No one’s around.”

Kei chuckled darkly, biting Fuma’s lower lip just enough to make him gasp, before pulling back with a look that promised later.

“You’re such a brat,” Kei muttered, but his smile was soft, his thumb brushing the corner of Fuma’s mouth like he couldn’t help himself.

“And you love it,” Fuma shot back, stealing another kiss before Kei could argue.

Nobody would see them here. Not unless someone wandered up directly from the beach, which this late in the evening was unlikely. The railing creaked faintly behind Fuma’s back, cool and rough under his palms as Kei caged him in completely.

Fuma gasped softly into Kei’s mouth as the older alpha rolled his hips forward, slow but deliberate, the press of his arousal leaving no room for misunderstanding. Kei’s scent washed over him, thick and potent, curling under his skin like wildfire. It sent Fuma’s pulse spiking, the mix of ocean breeze, sweat, and Kei making his head spin. Their kisses turned hungrier now, messier, as if neither of them could get close enough. Kei tilted his head, deepening it, his tongue sliding over Fuma’s with the kind of claim that made Fuma’s knees weak.

“You like having my fingers in your mouth so much,” Kei murmured, voice roughened with want, thick and low enough that it curled under Fuma’s skin. “Maybe you should put something else in there.”

Fuma huffed a breath of a laugh, that cocky, smug tilt to his lips that always made Kei groan.

“Yeah?” He teased, eyes dark, voice a little breathless but dripping with confidence now that they’d stopped pretending they weren’t both burning for this. “That what my mate wants?”

Kei's breath catches in his throat as Fuma slowly sinks to his knees before him, the younger alpha's skilled lips trailing hot, open-mouthed kisses down his torso. His hips flex slightly, allowing Fuma to tug his shorts down inch by inch, baring more of his muscular, toned flesh to the cooling evening air. Fuma leans in and presses a hot, open-mouthed kiss to the base of Kei's hardening cock, his tongue flicking out to taste the alpha's heated flesh. He inhales deeply, breathing in the heady, masculine scent of his mate's arousal, feeling it surge through his own body like a bolt of lightning.

He takes Kei's thick, hard length into his mouth, his lips stretching obscenely. He hollows his cheeks and sucks hard, his tongue swirling around the sensitive head, lapping up the bead of pre-cum that has already gathered at the tip.

"Fuck, baby, just like that..." Kei groans, his head falling back against the stone railing as Fuma begins to bob his head, taking more and more of his cock down his throat. The older alphas fingers tighten in his mate’s hair, holding him in place as he starts to rock his hips.

Kei's control hangs by a fraying thread as Fuma takes him deep, his plush lips stretched taut around the thick girth of his throbbing cock. Each bob of the younger alpha's head sends jolts of intense pleasure shooting up Kei's spine, his hips rocking forward of their own accord into the welcoming heat of Fuma's eager mouth. Fuma grips Kei's ass, pulling his alpha closer, silently demanding more. He swallows, and sucks harder. Kei can hardly stand, his legs trembling and threatening to give out from the sheer ecstasy of it all.

"Wait, Fuma, fuck. I’m going to cum" Kei warns, his voice a strangled moan as he grinds his teeth together, trying desperately to hold back. Fuma simply sucks harder, his tongue massaging his mate’s cock, urging him on, demanding his orgasm with single-minded focus.

Kei's eyes drink in the utterly, breathtakingly sight before him, the image of his stunning alpha mate kneeling before him, the sunset painting his beautiful face in hues of orange and pink. The contrast of the vibrant colors against the lush foliage surrounding them and Fuma's tanned skin is almost too much for Kei to process without losing the last threads of his control completely.

He reaches out, trailing his fingers almost tenderly across the delicate curve of Fuma's cheek, brushing back a few strands of hair that have been caught by the salty sea breeze. His thumb traces the plump, stretched curve of the younger alpha’s bottom lip, smearing the pre-cum that has leaked out.

"Such a pretty little picture you make," Kei pants, his gaze intense and heated as it roves over his mate's beautiful form, taking in every breathtaking detail. The older alpha throws his head back with a groan as his climax crashes over him like a tidal wave. "Fuuuuck"

Fuma swallows rapidly, his throat convulsing around Kei. He moans, the sound muffled as Kei rocks his hips, fucking Fuma's face through his release. His body shudders and twitches as the aftershocks of his climax roll through him. He holds Fuma's head firmly in place, his fingers digging into the delicate bones of his lover's skull as he grinds against his alpha’s mouth, drawing out the blissful sensations for as long as possible. Slowly, he releases Fuma, his softening cock slipping from between the younger man's slick lips with a wet pop and a shuddering moan. Panting, Kei gazes down at his lover with a look of pure, sated adoration. His chest heaves as he struggles to catch his breath, a light sheen of sweat coating his brow and his skin flushed a deep, ruddy hue from the force of his orgasm.

"Fuck, I love you so much”

They’d been lounging in the sunroom, windows open and breeze drifting through after their shower, when Kei sat up suddenly, phone in hand and eyes lit with excitement.

“There’s something happening in town tonight” he said, turning the screen to Fuma. “A beach festival. Small, local. Food trucks, live music, fireworks at night. I want to go.”

“I thought you wanted to say in tonight” Fuma raised a brow.

Kei leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to Fuma’s cheek. “Come on. It'll be fun. Our last night here, we should do something special.”

Fuma pretended to think for a moment before letting out a sigh that was far more dramatic than necessary. “Fine. But only if you win me something at one of those dumb carnival games.”

Kei smirked. “Deal.”

The festival was already in full swing by the time they arrived later that evening. Strings of lights crisscrossed over the sandy boardwalk, glowing soft and golden as dusk fell. People strolled with ice cream in hand, pups ran wild chasing bubbles, and the air smelled like kettle corn, grilled seafood, and ocean salt. Kei reached for Fuma’s hand immediately, lacing their fingers together and tugging him closer.

They wandered the rows of stalls first - vendors selling handmade jewelry, paintings of the nearby cliffs, artisanal soaps that Kei insisted on smelling all of. There were games too, just as promised, and Fuma stood back, arms crossed, as Kei threw a baseball at a pyramid of cans. He missed, twice.

Fuma didn’t even try to hide his grin. “I thought you were the athletic one.”

Kei narrowed his eyes, stepped up for his final throw - and knocked the whole stack over. The teenager running the booth blinked in mild surprise before handing Kei a small, floppy stuffed animal.

He turned to his mate, held it out like a trophy. “For you.”

Fuma took it, rolling his eyes - but then smiled for real, tucking the plush under his arm. “Thanks, Captain”

“Anything for you, fanboy” Kei’s answering laugh was bright and full and echoed over the soft roar of the waves behind them.

As night settled fully, they found a quiet patch of sand near the waterline. Kei laid out a blanket, and Fuma sat behind him, arms wrapped loosely around his waist, chin resting on his shoulder. The music had shifted to something softer now, mellow guitar and warm vocals drifting down from the small stage. Then, the first firework exploded. It bloomed in the sky above them - red, then gold, then violet - and the whole crowd let out a collective breath.

The fireworks continued to bloom high above them in bursts of color that painted the sky like a moving, shimmering canvas - each one louder and brighter than the last. At some point, volunteers began weaving through the crowd along the beach, handing out sparklers to anyone who wanted one. Kei stood up and accepted his eagerly, face lit with childish excitement as he turned to Fuma with wide eyes.

“Come on,” he said, already fishing a lighter from one of the volunteers and sparking his own into life. “You’re telling me you don’t love these?”

Fuma just watched him, heart thudding as Kei held the flickering stick in his fingers like a torch, the light casting sharp shadows across his face. The sparkler crackled and hissed as Kei waved it through the air in a wide circle, grinning like a kid on his first summer vacation.

“It’s like magic,” he said, and then laughed - the kind that crinkled the corners of his eyes and made his whole body shake just slightly.

Kei was glowing. Not just from the sparkler, though the bright golden light danced over his cheekbones and glinted in his eyes. Not just from the fireworks exploding like celebrations overhead. But from the inside, from something so bright that Fuma felt blinded by it. He’d never seen someone look so alive.

Fuma barely glanced down at the sparkler in his own hand. It had already caught fire, the stick warm in his fingers, sparks hissing gently into the sea air. He just watched Kei.

Kei turned in a slow circle, holding the sparkler up above his head, drawing lazy shapes in the air. The sparks illuminated the line of his jaw, the messy sweep of his hair, the faint red burn on his nose from the sun earlier that week. His mouth was stretched into the kind of smile that was completely unguarded like he didn’t care who saw, like joy lived right there beneath his skin and had nowhere else to go but out. Fuma’s heart pounded so hard against his ribs it almost hurt.

That’s my mate, he thought.

The sparkler fizzled in his own hand, glowing lower now, its flame beginning to die down. Still, he didn’t look away.  There were thousands of people on this beach. But all Fuma could see was Kei.

The older turned again, catching his gaze, and paused. The sparkler continued to sputter in his hand, casting little stars of light between them, and he tilted his head, smile softening.

“What?” he asked, walking back toward him. “You’re looking at me like I’m on fire.”

Fuma swallowed thickly. “You kind of are.”

Kei snorted, but his cheeks flushed faintly, even in the low light. “You didn’t even use yours,” he said, glancing at the half-burnt stick in Fuma’s hand.

“I didn’t need to.”

“Why not?”

Fuma just reached out, letting his sparkler drop to the sand, and curled his fingers gently around Kei’s waist, pulling him close until they stood chest to chest in the soft lull between fireworks. The festival buzzed around them with children laughing, waves crashing in the distance, music still echoing faintly from the boardwalk, but it was all background noise now.

“I have you,” Fuma said quietly. “That was more than enough light for me.”

Kei’s eyes widened slightly, lips parting but whatever response he had was swallowed by the look in Fuma’s eyes, and he surged forward to kiss him, one hand cupping the side of his face as the last few sparks fell from the sparkler still clutched loosely in his other hand.

They stood there, just the two of them, the night wrapping around them like a blanket, the last of the fireworks faded into wisps of smoke, drifting over the dark, endless stretch of ocean, their entire world right there in front of them.
