Work Text:

Wels yawned, rolling out of her bed and heading into the bathroom. She double-checked the time before she jumped into the shower and let the warm water run over her. Though she didn’t spend more than a few minutes there, hopping out quickly and drying off.

They still had a few hours until they were due to meet up with a few of their friends now that they had moved back to the area.

Wels looked in the mirror, brushing her short, wet hair and deciding that she’d wait for it to dry.

She walked back into the kitchen to find Hypno already there, standing in front of the stove and cooking something.

“Morning,” Wels mumbled, leaning on Hypno’s back and looking over her shoulder to look at the bacon sizzling and the eggs she was messing with.

“Well hi, you,” Hypno hummed, and she chuckled when Wels pressed a kiss to her neck. “You’re clingy this morning.”

“Maybe I wouldn’t be if you turned around and said hi to me,” Wels murmured, resting her chin on Hypno’s shoulder.

“I’m working on breakfast! Ungrateful!” Hypno gasped, reaching back and gently smacking Wels’ head. “Oh, your hair is wet.”

“I see,” Wels mumbled, sticking out her tongue playfully and stepping away. “You’re feeling mean today. I’ll make some coffee.”

Wels walked across the kitchen, to the other counter where their coffee maker sat, and she prepared everything. It was only just starting to brew when Hypno finished with the food and divided it onto plates, grabbing some silverware from the drawer.

She walked back over to Wels, nudging her as she offered her a plate. Wels gave her a look, and Hypno shot back a small grin. Wels took the plate from her, and Hypno pulled herself onto the counter next to Wels. Wels leaned into her and Hypno smiled, pressing a kiss to the top of Wels’ head. The two sat there as they ate, and Wels pulled a pair of mugs from the cabinet after a few minutes and poured them both cups of hot coffee.

Hypno blew on hers for a minute before taking a sip, and she leaned against Wels again.

They ate in comfortable silence, and when they were done, Wels dumped her dishes in the sink. Hypno followed her into the bathroom, where Wels finished getting ready. She brushed her hair and washed her face, sweeping her hair slightly into a style she liked. Hypno leaned against the wall, watching her for a few minutes, before she joined her partner at the sink.

“How are you feeling?” Wels asked, turning away from the mirror.

“First time seeing them in a while,” Hypno noted. “Worried, but excited. It’ll be nice to see them again.”

“Girl day?” Wels asked, and Hypno pursed her lips, turning to the mirror and looking herself over.

“Close enough, I think,” she replied, and Wels watched her shift and tweak her appearance slightly. A little shorter, but still taller than Wels, messily cropped hair at her chin, and gold eyes rather than brown.

“What? Don’t give me that look,” she said, and Wels chuckled softly, shrugging.

“Alright, alright. We still have some time to kill, do you want to go out and wander around town or wait here?” Wels asked, leaning against the counter.

“I’m not ready to socialize,” Hypno grumbled.

Wels chuckled softly, “Yeah, that’s fair enough. Wanna watch something?”

“Sure, I’ll go find something,”

“They’re kinda queer, honestly,”

“Oh yeah? What exactly?”

“Ace,” Wels replied decisively, and Hypno chuckled.

“Oh yeah? Claiming them as your muse?” Hypno teased gently.

“Yep, exactly,” Wels agreed, causing Hypno to laugh. “My muse to spread my propaganda.”

Hypno was about to shoot back a reply, when Wels checked the time and stood up, turning off the TV. “Come on, it’s about time, we’ll be late.”

“When are we not?” Hypno sighed, getting up and following Wels out of the door, and locking the front door of their apartment behind them.

Wels and Hypno walked down the street, the midmorning sun casting warm sun on their backs. Hypno followed Wels as she navigated the streets of the small town, and she marveled how little the town had changed in the years they had been gone.

Wels pulled the door of the cafe that sat on the corner, and let Hypno walk inside in front of her.

xB waved at them from their booth in the corner and Hypno slid in next to him. Wels sat on the other side of the table, sitting next to Jevin.

“Hey you two! Been a while!” Jevin greeted.

“Too long,” Wels said, and xB nodded.

“Glad you guys are back,” sea noted.

“Hey, now that everyone’s here, should we go order?” Jevin asked, and Wels nodded, sliding out of the booth. The four walked up to the counter, and Xisuma joined them after a moment, and they exchanged hellos. Each ordered their drink and returned to the booth after their drinks were finished, though Wels stayed behind to pay.

They talked about little things for a while, about memories and how their lives were going now. When they were done, Xisuma said, “I think there’s some live music downtown, anyone want to come with me?”

“Sounds fun, which band?” xB asked, poking Hypno to let sea out.

“Not sure, they’re small and local I think,” Xisuma replied, leading the way out of the coffee shop. Hypno recognized the streets they walked down towards the small park they were supposed to be playing at.

The sign at the entrance was familiar as they walked through the gate into the partially wooded and partially grassy area. Music filled the air as the group approached the gazebo the band was playing in, and they all settled on the grass, listening to the music and continuing to chat about whatever came to mind. Hypno smiled as she looked up at the lead singer, then back at her friends. She knew they wouldn’t regret moving back here.
