A Whole New World, Literally

Summary:

“Excuse me, mind if I sit here? Everywhere else is full.”

The boy by the window looked up from his book, eyes scanning Jisung for a moment. His dark, straight hair fell slightly into his eyes, but Jisung could still see the sharpness in his gaze. Then, with a quiet hum, he turned back to his reading.

“Uh… thanks?” Jisung mumbled, taking that as a yes. He wrestled with his trunk, trying (and failing) to shove it onto the luggage rack.

or

Jisung never thought his life could change so completely — until a letter arrived, carried by an owl and sealed with wax. Suddenly, he’s being whisked from his Muggle life to the enchanted halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where portraits talk, staircases move, and magic is real. And terrifying. And amazing.

Thrown into a new world of spells, house rivalries, and pumpkin pasties, Jisung quickly finds himself caught between two new friends: the fiercely loyal Chan, and the infuriatingly clever Minho. As the school year unfolds, friendships deepen, secrets whisper through the halls, and rivalries spark in unexpected places.

He doesn’t know it yet, but this is only the beginning.

Notes:

Hi! This is my very first fic, and I’ve been planning it for months. I’m not a professional writer — just someone who’s always loved stories and finally decided to write one of my own. This fic hasn’t been beta read, and it’s my first time writing seriously outside of school assignments, so please be kind.

If you spot any typos or weird phrasing, feel free to let me know — I’m learning as I go and would greatly appreciate advice :)
I really hope you enjoy reading this as much as I’ve enjoyed building this world and these characters. Thank you so much for giving it a chance.

Chapter 1: Preface

Chapter Text

Dear readers,
My name is Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore—though frankly, most people find “Professor Dumbledore” sufficient, unless they are trying to impress the Wizengamot or my rather fussy portrait. I currently serve (with a great deal of parchment and a moderate amount of tea) as the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
You are about to embark upon a most curious tale; a story not of the famous Harry Potter (although you may glimpse his perpetually untidy hair now and then), but of another student in his year. A muggle-born, no less, who—like many before him—finds himself hurled into our world of spells, secrets, and the occasional exploding teacup.
Now, should you be unfamiliar with the magical world, do not despair. Much like a first-year fumbling with a self-stirring cauldron, you will learn as you go. Any curious terms or enchanted oddities will be explained in due course. Consider yourself in excellent company, as the young lad himself is new to all of this.
A brief note for those joining us from outside the United Kingdom: Hogwarts is nestled in the Scottish Highlands (lovely views, rather aggressive thistles), and you will find that students hail from all corners of Britain and Ireland. This means the occasional turn of phrase may leave you scratching your head. Fear not: translations, clarifications, and possibly even apologies will be provided, most likely in the form of footnotes. Or hats. (I’m told footnotes are more traditional.)
Now, before this letter turns into a dissertation on the breeding habits of Cornish pixies (fascinating creatures, utterly untrainable), I shall leave you to your reading.
May your robes be pressed, your wand polished, and your pumpkin juice chilled.
Yours most eccentrically,
Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,
Grand Sorcerer, Supreme Mugwump, Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot,
and Eater of Exactly One Lemon Drop Every Tuesday Afternoon

Author's Note & Disclaimer
This is a fanfiction set in the universe of Harry Potter. However, I do not support the views, actions, or sentiments of J.K. Rowling. I firmly believe that trans rights are human rights, and I stand in strong solidarity with the trans community.
All characters, events, and locations are fictional (with the exception of real-world cities mentioned occasionally for setting). Please do not conflate any fictional characterisations with real-life individuals as all dialogue, actions, and developments in this story are purely fictional.
If content warnings are required, they will either appear at the top of individual chapters or in the overall fic’s tags if the theme recurs.
Part 1 follows Jisung’s first year at Hogwarts and will primarily explore themes such as the deterioration of friendship. Heavier and more complex themes will develop from Part 2 onward.
I aim to update chapters weekly, but as I’m currently buried in essays (send help and coffee), there may be occasional delays. Thanks for your patience, and for reading!

As a quick aside, I’d like to mention that I’m English and will be writing using British English conventions, slang, and cultural references. I’ve assigned each character a hometown or region based on places I know well and feel comfortable writing about, hence why several characters are from the south. Apologies in advance if I get any regional details wrong!

I would also like to state that I do not use AI. I like to use the em dash which has recently become synonymous with AI, but please be rest assured that I do not use it at all. I believe that AI is the downfall of literature, fandom and creativity.

Also, I feel very strongly that we need more Scottish Seungmin. I don't know why. It just feels right.

here is a playlist for the fic (I tried to make it as early 90s as possible, however there are a few songs from the 80s and 2000s/2010s for setting purposes):
