Chapter Text

The clock on the wall ticked silently, marking the 21st minute they had been sitting in Xavier's office so far.

Kurt sat in the chair, his arms folded, a disgruntled expression on his face, his indigo fur stuck up to the ceiling, slouched frustratedly.

Remy smirked, chuckling under his breath, one leg over the other, fighting the urge to laugh at Kurt.

Xavier sighed, looking at the both of them, staring at Kurt specifically.

“...Kurt. I want to hear your side of the story first. I feel it will be more believable than anything that comes out of Remy’s mouth.”

Kurt sputtered, sitting upright in his chair.

“He used his powers on me after I specifically said not to! He is purposely aggravating me, Professor!”

Remy burst out laughing at that, seeing his frustration and taking it to his advantage.

“Oh my goodness, Homme! Can you not take a joke?! This school is too serious. That was the funniest thing to happen all week!”

Remy cackled around the room, as Kurt continued to sulk, the Professor sighed and reached under his desk, giving him a brush for his fur.

“..Thank you.” He said, disgruntled, beginning to brush it back down, as the Professor reached under his desk once more, bringing out two forms. A disciplinary action form, and a compliance form.

“Boys. Sign this please.”

Kurt huffed, still disgruntled and almost refusing to pick up a pen. Remy however, smirked and signing them with ease, glanced over at Kurt, his eyes flitting up and down his form in the chair.

“..But I do apologize, brother. No use in looking all frustrated now, eh?”

“...I am not your Bruder. I will never be your Bruder ever in my life.”

Remy's smirk fell for a moment, and gave way to how smart his tongue really was. He was tempted to tote both fingers to show him just how close he was.

“What, so you want to be my cousin?”

“Okay, you know what-?!”

Xavier slammed his hands on the table, gaining their attention again, giving Kurt a pen to sign the forms.

“Sign it. Please.”

Kurt begrudgingly took the pen, signing the forms with a tinge of reluctance.

“And you two understand that at any time breaking of the treaty signed in this form will result in immediate disciplinary action?”

Kurt glanced at Remy, as Remy did the same, their eyes conveying the same emotion.

They were absolutely not following that treaty.

But, as Xavier bored them about it, they complied. For now.

“..Yes, Professor.” Kurt grumbled, still staring Remy down.

“Whatever you say, Homme.” Remy shrugged, looking away at the wall, folding his arms over my chest as well, slouching in the chair.

Xavier looked at him, gathering the forms and putting them in a folder.

“You know, Remy, most students call me Professor Xavier.”

“Yeah, I'm gonna call you whatever I want.”

Remy's lip fixed, a sign of his disobedience and unwillingness to listen. He continued staring at the wall, his eyes on a framed picture of everyone in front of the school, posing, looking so perfect. A little spark of energy flew between his fingers as he huffed, getting impatient to leave.

“...Kurt.”, Xavier continued, as he put the folder under his desk with the slowly, but ever growing “Remy Lebeau” box. He continued, “You are permitted to leave now. Me and Mr Lebeau will have a talk.”

Kurt nodded, and left the room, arms still folded over his chest, still brushing his fur down.

Remy rolled his eyes, still staring at the photo on the wall, with the intention of ignoring him.

“Mr Lebeau?”

Xavier raised an eyebrow, turning his head and noticing Remy staring at the Alumni photo from about 2 years ago. He smirked, clearing his throat, and trying to get his attention back a different way.

“..Mr Darkholme?”

That got Remy's attention. What kind of name was that? Remy scoffed, rolling his eyes again at that. That was about the strangest last name he'd ever heard, and he was already frustrated.

“Who are you confusing me with now?”

“Rogue.” Xavier chuckled, looking right at him, then handing him a Manila folder.

Remy took the Manila folder, looking inside it, and being a little surprised. He looked at the photo of a little girl with two pigtails in her hair and the cutest little smile, then flipped it up, and found… Rogue?!

“What the…”

“Anna Marie Darkholme. Her last name.”

Remy was dumbfounded. He glanced at the photo of the little girl, then at the more recent photo of Anna, stonefaced, makeup ridden and hair straightened.

“That's ma cherie..? Are you sure this ain't that chatty girl?”

“That was the photo her guardian had sent in.”

Mystique. Of course she would give such an old and misleading photo. Probably didn't even care enough to send in a current photo when she enrolled.

“...Huh.”

He glanced over at the photo on the wall again, holding up the little girl's picture to Rogue, behind Jean and Kitty. When was this even taken?

“I know what you're thinking, Remy. How did that become that? Trust me, I was just as surprised as you.”

“..Nah. It's always the moody girls who look like they belonged in Sunday school as babies.”

He stared at the photo again, noticing how she looked so uncomfortable. He couldn't stand it. He always wanted her to be happy.

“..How long ago was that taken?”

“...Around her Sophomore year. We had an influx of students around that time enrolling, and she was apart of the older bunch.”

“She always look this… disinterested in photos?”

“Used to. She was less reluctant back then rather than now. She was so locked down by her own emotions.”

Damn, did it look like it. His poor chere looked like she would rather be off the earth than be anywhere and take that photo.

“..Mr Lebeau?”

This time, Remy glanced down at him in his wheelchair as he rolled up to him.

“..Oui?”

“Let this be a reminder that there are options in this life. At this school, I would be more than welcome to allow you to explore your options.”

Remy huffed at that, a tiny spark of energy flying between his fingers again.

“..Or would it rather motivate you to have Anna Marie say it to you?” Xavier put his hands in his lap, still looking up at him from his chair.

“..Already has. She thinks that I should stay to learn to control my spirit.”

“And you should. We're particularly good at that. Just look at her.”

Remy glanced down at the photo of her as a little girl again, then at the photo of her with everyone.

“..When do yall take this kind of thing? It's annual, or..?”

“We retake it every three years with Alumni and student participation.”

Remy stared at the photo again, looking at Rogue, only two years before. He was gonna stay long enough to see her smile in this photo, that's for damn sure.

“..I'm staying.”

Xavier smiled, patting his shoulder.

“Mr Lebeau, I'll see to it that you do. For her, or for yourself.”

Remy tucked the photo of younger Rogue in his pocket, still staring at the Alumni photo. Oh, he was gonna make her smile one way or another.

As he was staring, a roaring laugh had been heard outside of Xavier's office, and Remy's head turned to the door.

Xavier, also hearing the laugh, patted his back, letting him go.

“You can excuse yourself, Me Lebeau. We will discuss your enrollment throughout the week.”

“..Alright.”

Remy huffed, walking to the door, and closing it, the laugh becoming clearer, and sounding a lot like..

“Oh mah god, Kurt! What did you do, get struck by one of Storm's bolts while trying to teleport?!”

Rogue held her stomach, almost falling to the floor seeing Kurt with his fur all mussied up, sticking up like a broomstick.

Kurt rolled his eyes, getting even more frustrated as he saw Gambit in the hallway.

You!”

Remy smirked, raising an eyebrow.

Moi?”

Rogue chuckled, watching Kurt stubbornly walk over to Remy, pointing one of his fingers in his face.

“You are the pinnacle of the word conniving! You are a thug! You are a thief!”

“And?”

“AND?! A BROTHERHOOD MEMBER!” Kurt shouted, putting his arms out to Rogue, as she continued to laugh, trying to get her to see his faults. “Rogue, are you even listening?!”

Rogue wiped her eyes, slightly wet from tears of laughter.

“Oh, come on Kurt. He's here for a reason, isn't he?”

Kurt's mouth fell agape at how relaxed she seemed. Like harboring criminals was absolutely normal.

“We are practically condoning this behavior! Xavier is doing nothing, You are doing nothing!”

“So? Remy can regulate himself.”

Kurt blinked, scoffing and storming off, his hands in the air, grumbling.

Rogue rolled her eyes, holding his hands through her gloves.

“So? How'd it go with the professor?”

Remy shrugged, huffing.

“Went alright. Your baby bro likes to play with my emotions.”

“Oh, please. If you got intimidated by him, you'd be scared of a piece of celery. Kurt ain't a threat.”

“Sure is annoying.”

Rogue smirked, slapping his arm playfully.

“Don't say that. If ah was like that, would you call me annoying?”

“..Nah. Blue ain't your color.”

Rogue huffed, her arms over her chest.

“You two are gonna have to eventually get along.”

“Over my dead body. It's not that I don't like him chere. He don't like me, and I'm quite fine with that.”

She sighed, rubbing his back.

“You'll like him soon enough.”

“..Not soon enough.”

Rogue slapped his back again, frustrated at his refusal to listen to her.

This was going to be a challenge.

Meanwhile, in Kitty's Kingdom…

Kitty watched, listening to Kurt rant and pace across the room, her eyes following him, and on the little bamflings combing his fur out, while she had one in her lap.

“...Uh huh.”

“AND MIND YOU, he lives in a boarding house in Louisiana! That place is the root of all current evil!”

“..Uh huh..?”

“And you remember last year when he kidnapped her?”

Oh, yeah, that.

“...Uh huh.”

“..Kätzchen, are you even listening to me?”

“I am! You hate Remy because you think he's taking advantage of Rogue and he's also a thief, and an ex brotherhood member..”

“NOT EVEN EX! He could still be in cahoots with them, and we wouldn't even know!”

Kitty rolled her eyes. She couldn't believe Kurt was conspiring against Remy still.

“Obviously he isn't! What evil things has he even done around here besides make you look like a broomstick?”

“Oh, I don't know what else, but when I figure it out, he's going right back to the swamp where he belongs.”

Kitty smirked, but shook her head about his master plan.

Oh, of course this was going to be a challenge. But that was the fun part, right?
