Summary
Ellen Hütten is the free-spirited daughter of a wealthy Transylvanian German merchant, living in the city of Schäsbrich, during the 16th century. While her authoritarian and religious father seeks to marry her off, she dreams of freedom and nature, while dealing with a gift she tries to neglect.
One evening, when the lilacs are in full bloom in the Spring, she is to attend a ball in celebration of another military victory against the Turks. There, she meets a mysterious and handsome young Count, feared by most. Some say, he's a black enchanter and has dealings with the Devil.
