Nagi started a group call

“Why does Reo think I’m dating Isagi.”

“Jesus- I don’t know, maybe because you chose Isagi over him for the major project in English??” Chigiri grumbled, sounding annoyed.

“I chose him because Reo was already looking at you.”

“How does that make any sense? You’d do anything to be Reo's partner.” Rin asked.

“I was thinking… What if Reo didn’t want me anymore?”

Rin loudly sighed, Chigiri banged his head against something, creating a loud thud. Bachira was snickering and Ness was holding his head in his hands, trying not to absolutely blow up on the slowest one in the group chat.

“You- Nagi Seishiro. Nagi fucking Seishiro.” Chigiri banged his head again one more time before starting to angrily type on his phone.

“How could he not want you? Nagi, he spends most of his time with you. His parents love you, he gives you gifts everyday. He doesn’t do that with anyone else, he’s treating you special specially, Nagi.” Ness gritted through his teeth, annoyance about to take over him.

“…He said he would abandon me if I got bad at soccer. Everyone knows I haven’t been playing because I twisted my ankle last week, he's… Different around me now.”

A shocked string of “What!?” ringed throughout Nagi’s phone speaker, he grimaced at the sound.

“Wait- He said what?!” Chigiri gasped, staring intensely at his screen. His typing stopped, and he seemed to be deleting what he was typing.

“I said what I said.” Nagi mumbled, burying his head in his pillow.

“No way… He actually said that, to you of all people!?” Bachira yelped, also shocked at the current situation.

“Hold on— Different around you, how?” Ness asked, concern overlapping his once annoyed tone.

“Like… He doesn’t always hold my hand anymore, he stopped reminding me to get home safe… I don’t know…” Nagi whispered to his phone microphone, too tired to speak.

“Reo Mikage being distant out of all people.” Rin scoffed, you could practically hear him rolling his eyes.

“Stop reminding you to get home safe!? I thought he bike rode you home!?” Chigiri exclaimed, disbelief evident in his voice.

“He told me he’s too busy to do that now.” Nagi mumbled into his pillow, burying his face further in it.

“Wha- HUH!?” Chigiri yelled, slapping a hand over his mouth.

“No but seriously- Nagi are you okay? We know how rare attachment is to you and suddenly it being ripped away from you surely can’t cause anything good…” Ness expressed his concern, wanting to make sure Nagi was okay.

“Maybe I considered jumping off a bridge once or twice. But that’s it.” His voice was muffled, and it sounded like he was trying to make a joke.

“I’m on my way. You three are also coming.” Chigiri said sternly, before leaving the call.

Eventually everyone agreed, leaving Nagi by himself in the call. He groaned before leaving as well and rubbing at his eyes.

Ness: oh he actually did that…

Nagi opened the front door, slowly, peaking his head out slightly. There were the four of them, four of his best friends (besides Reo, Reo had a special title.) In middle school, you could ask younger him about friends and he’d say it was a hassle. But, now, he’s found people willing to put up with his behaviour.

He opened the door fully and let them in, Bachira practically jumping onto him and the others fixing their shoes by the door, before standing near Nagi.

“You can’t just tell us Reo would abandon you over soccer and not explain anymore, so let’s hear it.” Chigiri sighed, grabbing Nagi by the wrist and heading to his room. The other three followed behind, and a certain someone cursing Reo under their breath.

As Ness closed the door to Nagi’s room and took a seat in the circle they created, he sent Nagi a “go ahead” look.

“Uh.. It was our first date-”

“Date!?” Bachira squeaked, before quickly shutting his mouth.

“Nagi, we’ve been over this. It was your first hangout not date.” Chigiri mumbled, an unamused expression plastered over his face.

“Hangout- I asked him what would happen if I got bad at soccer, and he said he’d abandon me, find someone else.” Nagi muttered, burying his head in his arms.

Chigiri pulled out his phone, and was quickly typing something as his expression turned into a more angered one. Ness peaked over Chigiri's shoulder to see him texting Kunigami about the situation, he snickered quietly.

“Let me get this straight.” Rin paused, before rubbing his temples and continuing. “You’re afraid he’s actually going to leave you because you twisted your ankle and haven’t participated in practice for a week?” 

“He’s been acting weird too…”

“Haven’t you thought that maybe you’re the one being distant as well? We all know you aren’t the most affectionate person, but you have your ways of showing you care.” Rin shot back, glaring at Nagi.

Chigiri then perked up and nodded his head before looking back to Nagi.

“Have you even talked to him about this yet?”

“...No.”

Everyone groaned, Chigiri looked close to banging his head into the wall behind him, Bachira was just looking at Nagi like a fish, Rin was staring at Nagi, and Ness was close to taking Nagi’s phone himself and typing for him.

“You’re texting him right now.”

“What?”

“Pull out the damn phone.”

Nagi took his phone out of his pocket and swiped up, before going to his contacts and opening Reo’s and his private messages.They talked online last week, which was a scarily long time. He started typing, before his eyebrows furrowed and he stopped typing.

“Reo don’t leave me because of my ankle.” Nagi read his own message outloud.

“No, no! You’re not sending that!” Chigiri yelped, scrambling to sit beside Nagi and see what he was typing.

“Reo can we talk tomorrow at our spot… Send.” Nagi mumbled, before turning his phone off and plopping onto the floor.

“So you do know how to talk to people.” Rin scoffed, his head resting in his hand.

“You guys rub off of me…”

“That’s a good thing!”

The four stayed over that night, all cramped in the small dorm room, but it felt comfortable. It made Nagi feel warm, like this was a family. He didn’t understand what family felt like, but this was close enough for him.

Bachira was up first, his energetic energy radiating and waking everyone else up. Nagi was still in bed, nearly about to fall asleep until a specific notification sound he set for Reo popped up. He immediately sat up and opened his phone, wanting to see what Reo had sent back.

Ness sat beside him, peering over his shoulder and watching as Nagi slowly opened Reo's contact.

Reo: Sorry Nagi, but I can’t.

“Eh…” Nagi mumbled, staring at his phone screen before Ness gasped, and covered his mouth.

That caught the attention of the other three, and they quickly came over to see what happened.

“Did he reply!?” Bachira asked rather energetically, buzzing with energy.

“He said no.” He muttered.

There was a pang of silence, before a sound of confusion came out of the three. Ness was comforting Nagi by ruffling his hair, trying to soothe him.

“Jesus Christ, seriously?” Rin asked, his expression was its usual nonchalance yet concern was in his eyes.

Chigiri took the phone out of Nagi’s hands before shaking his head and groaning.

“He didn’t even say why!? I swear I’m going to die one day because of you two—“

“Ask him why! Don’t leave him on seen!” Bachira yelped, sitting in front of Nagi and snatching the phone from Chigiri before returning it to Nagi.

Nagi only nodded and sent the message rather quickly, eager to get an answer.

Nagi and Ness sat beside each other on Nagi’s bed, Nagi resting his head on Ness’ shoulder and Ness staring at the wall in front of them. Sunlight dawned over them from the window behind them, Choki sitting behind Nagi.

“You know, Nagi. I’m sure you both will be okay.” Ness whispered, tilting his head to slightly rest on Nagi’s.

Nagi could only blink, still trying to process what had happened. He was never good with emotions, but everything felt like too much at the same time. 

“Reo doesn’t… like me anymore…” He whispered, the realization dawned over him like a bucket of ice cold water was poured on him.

“No, he does like you, Nagi. He’s just… scared.” Ness tried to explain.

“…Of what?” He muttered, curling more into himself.

“I don’t know, but don’t give up because of a minor setback, okay, Sei?” Ness smiled, speaking softly to Nagi as if this was his own child.

After a few beats of silence, Ness’ phone rang. They both jumped at the sudden sound and Ness quickly got off the bed and looked at Nagi.

“I’m sorry, Sei. I promised Kaiser I’d help him with something back at our dorm, just call if you need anything, okay?” He apologized as he ruffled Nagi’s hair.

Nagi could only nod before Ness left the room, the door closing with a final click. Now he was left alone, silence washing over him. The clock on his nightstand ticked each passing minute, and he could only lay down, letting his thoughts run. 

He stared at the ceiling for a few minutes, debating if he should get up or not before his bedroom door swung open, revealing Barou with his usual pissed expression carrying a laundry basket.

“Quit moping and help me with the laundry, or you can say goodbye to that phone of yours.” Barou threatened, before retreating to their living room.

Nagi could only sigh before he sat up, not wanting to be dragged by the ear.

“Maid Barou…”

Nagi stared at the messages for a few seconds before shutting his phone screen off, something rising from his throat. He shot out of bed and went to the bathroom, vomiting his lunch out in the toilet bowl.

He wants to know what he did wrong so desperately, and it made him sick to the core.

What would it take for him to feel human?

Reo closed the messaging app off of his phone and tossed it somewhere on the side of his bed, just finished reading the messages for the 10th time. It hurt so bad, so badly it made him want to cry— but he couldn’t. He did this to himself, he did this because he couldn’t speak up. So what right does he have to complain? To cry?

He had to make things right.

Reo: You know how bad my jealousy issues can get, and the whole reason I was being so unreasonable with Nagi is because he used to just be with me. He used to only talk to me, and now he actually has friends. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, I'm actually happy he’s making friends, it just makes me feel so weird inside. It makes me feel like it’d be okay if I left because now he has other people and I’m not his main… how do I say this? Favourite? I don’t know.

Chigiri: Reo, ilysm, you’re my best friend, but I NEED you to understand that you should’ve just communicated that from the beginning. With the way you’re talking to him and handling things it makes him think you hate him, Reo. I know how bad your jealousy issues can get, I’ve been there— but you will never not be Nagi’s favourite. He’s been upset since early September because he has no idea what he did wrong to you. I’m not saying this to guilt trip you nor to make you more upset, but I’m saying you need to reflect. You cannot expect to be able to get into a relationship with Nagi if you cannot communicate first. Your emotions are valid, but you need to talk to him.

What would he say? How could he explain? What if Nagi didn’t understand? What if—

What if he messes it up again?

Hours had passed. It was almost midnight, and Nagi still laid awake on his bed, staring at his roof. Something in his heart was aching, and he couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable. It made him feel uneasy, upset even. He hated it so much, he wanted it to go away.

So that’s why he suddenly got up and put on the first pair of shoes he saw— and ran out the front door.

He doesn’t know where he’s going. His body is on autopilot and the only thing that is circling in his head is Reo. He misses him so much, he misses him so much it makes him want to vomit.

The sounds of grass shuffling and heavy breaths rang throughout his ears, as his eyes focused on one thing ahead of him only, 

the park.

This was their spot. They did everything here, they talked, walked, practiced, everything. It felt like hell being here without Reo, but he has no other choice, does he?

He’s almost there, he’s almost in reach—

THUMP

Nagi bumped into someone. They both fell on the ground below but Nagi almost immediately got up, not wanting to spare one glance before he saw the boy he bumped into.

“I’m sor—… Nagi?…” Reo whispered, looking at Nagi with nothing but concern in his eyes.

Nagi stared back at him, his eyes widened, his mouth opened just to close again, not knowing what to say. 

Reo tried to reach for Nagi’s hand but he pulled away, ashamed.

“Reo…”

He wanted to run. Everything in his body told him to run— but his heart yelled “stay.” Nagi continued to stare at Reo before he took a step forward, getting closer to Reo.

“Reo we- We have to talk.” Nagi choked out, his body felt so heavy. It felt like it needed to stay right here, and to not leave.

Reo swallowed his fear, looking at Nagi properly and took a few deep breaths before nodding. 

“Let’s talk.”

They both sat on the swings next to each other, the air carrying tension yet an emotion both of them knew was reciprocated, but what? 

Sounds of the air swaying and leaves racing were the only things Nagi could hear besides Reo's breathing, and he stared at Reo until he said something.

“I’m… Sorry for randomly being so distant and ignorant, Nagi.” Reo spoke, making eye contact with Nagi as he spoke.

“I just have some issues— and I think we need to take a break from each other.” He said slowly, trying to make it easier for both of them to process.

“How long?” Nagi bluntly asked, his eyes trying to meet Reo’s moving ones.

“…I don’t know.” He said truthfully, looking down to the ground.

“Did I do something?” Nagi asked slowly, now looking up at the sky. The metal chains holding the swings to the bar above were cold, but he kept his hands on them, needing a sense of control.

“You didn’t do anything.” Reo reassured, but Nagi couldn’t feel much genuine in his voice.

“Then why are we suddenly not talking?” He pressed again, determined to know the truth.

“I said I have issues I need to figure out, Nagi.” Reo spoke again, his voice rising a bit.

“I want to help you.” Nagi now finally looked at Reo whose eyes already met his, but quickly looked away.

“I need to reflect on my own.” He whispered, hands in his lap.

“What did I do? Reo I know I did something but I just don’t know what. What did I do—“

“You’re tiring to be around!” Reo yelled out, now looking at Nagi more fiercely and his eyes brimming with tears.

Nagi didn’t speak. He didn’t move, he didn’t think— he didn’t do anything. His throat closed up on him and everything froze into place. The only thing that was moving was Reo’s body slightly shaking, and his mouth moving but no sounds came out. 

The Reo in front of him was melting, the visual of the boy he thought he knew was disappearing and he could only watch. The Reo in front of him didn’t have that spark in his eyes anymore, the Reo in front of him didn’t radiate warm energy, the Reo in front of him didn’t—…

The new Reo didn’t like him anymore.

Bile raised in Nagi’s throat. He put a hand over his mouth and slowly got off the swing, walking slowly out of the park and to the path of the dorm rooms, and there was only one thing he could remember before his memory faded.

“I resent you so much.”

11/9/25

He bent over a bush, vomiting his insides onto the ground. He was further away from the park now, but he doesn’t remember walking here. Fuck— He barely remembers anything at all. He gags, trying to vomit again but nothing is left for him to throw up.

It’s raining. Droplets of water start to slowly fall onto his sweater. He takes a deep breath and stands up again, looking towards the path to the dorms.

The front door slams shut as he enters, leaning against the door with heavy eyes. He’s breathing heavily, but he doesn’t know why. His head hurts, his mouth feels rough, his throat is dry— He wants to sleep.

“Where the hell have you been? It’s already dark out at around eight PM.” Barou stood in front of him suddenly, scolding him.

When did Barou walk over here?

Barou looked him up and down before groaning, seeing the mess he was in.

“And those are my shoes you’re wearing! Were you not thinking before you left the dorm?” Barou scoffed, crossing his arms and staring at Nagi, waiting for a reply.

Nagi only looked at him, eyes trying to stay awake. They kept fluttering open and closed, and Barou watched as he struggled to keep awake.

“I—…” He tried to speak, the words dying at his throat before he fell into a coughing fit. It hurts to speak.

His vision started to blur, but the last thing he could see was Barou quickly catching his limp body.

Everything felt so.. Odd. He was cold yet hot at the same time, and not in the way you could call it warmth. It felt furthest away from warmth, and he hated it so much. He opened his eyes slowly, blinking as he tried to adjust to the morning sun peaking through the crack in his curtains. It seemed late into the day, but he wasn’t bothered to go to classes. 

His head ached, throbbing. He groaned and rolled over, shoving his face into his pillow. He curled into himself and tried to go back to sleep, because right now, he didn’t want to deal with this pain.

But god, it felt too overwhelming.

“Hey.”

A sudden voice came from ahead, and a sudden shift was felt on the bed. He quickly shot up, his heart racing and ears ringing.

Is that…

Him?

The same white hair he has, the same eyes he has…

What the fuck?

A clone? A twin? Someone had to be messing with him. There’s no way—

“I’m real.” He chimed, arms resting on his legs and head being held up by his hands.

“No you’re not.” Nagi whispered, the only difference between the two of them would be personality.

“Yeah? How would you know?” The other him mocked, tilting his head while staring at Nagi.

He could only glare at the other him while trying to even out his breathing, and the other him could only smile. 

“You–“

“Who the hell are you talking to?” Barou asked while entering his room, holding a tray of food and pain killers.

Nagi snapped his head to look at Barou, who just had a confused expression on his face.

“…No one.” He muttered.

Barou gave him a weird look before placing the tray on Nagi’s lap, Nagi watched from the corner of his eye as he watched the other him loomed over the tray, pointing at the pain killers.

“I have classes. That all better be finished when I’m back.” Barou threatened, turning around and shutting the door, leaving Nagi and… the other him alone in silence.

Nagi took the water bottle on the tray and took the pills, swallowing them all in one go. The sooner he feels less shitty, the better. The other him just stared at him, tilting it’s head. Nagi tried to pay no mind to it, trying to treating it as if it wasn’t there. Because frankly, he had to be hallucinating. Barou didn’t see him— right?

Fuck this is messing with his brain.

Nagi ate some of his food, his stomach not wanting to hold so much. He ate what he could, at least. He placed his tray on the desk next to him, and took a deep breath. He looked around the room, but the other him was gone.

Wasn’t that great?

…

He should sleep.

“Hold on, Nagi! We’re going to the beach!” Reo exclaimed over the phone, jumping up from his bed and rushing to his closet. Looking through it and selecting a few clothes, while Nagi– on the other line, was still processing what he said.

“The… Beach?” Nagi asked, sounding unsure and tired. It was such a sudden plan, he doesn’t feel prepared for this.

“It’ll be nice! Since we have the summer off we should go enjoy it— you need some sun, Nagi!” Reo said, his voice loudly blaring out of Nagi’s phone speakers.

Nagi stared at his phone for a few seconds before nodding to no one in particular.

“Okay.”

The soft rays of the sun hit the two boys as they sat next to each other on the sand of the beach, seagulls chirping and soft waves blowing. The sun was starting to set, casting a beautiful sunset.

“Doesn’t the sunset look so pretty?” Reo asked, breaking the soft silence.

Nagi nodded, staring at the different hues of color mixing into each other. The sight made him feel warm, like he was home, and he had a soft blanket draped over his shoulders.

Shall his blanket be Reo, oh what he’d give to know.

Their shared silence stretched on for a while, yet not uncomfortable. It set a calming scene as they sat next to each other, yet one wasn’t looking forward.

Reo was looking at Nagi, should it be the other way around? Perhaps Nagi does too much of the observation— perhaps Reo wants to have one glance of Nagi off guard.

Oh, how he was so beautiful. His gentle features, the shining look in his eyes, the slight curve of his lips as he watched the sunset, the beautiful white locks he had, Reo wanted to cradle him for eternity.

The dimming sunlight hit his face perfectly, reflecting the God given designs of his features. 

He would give anything if he could just get one chance to kiss Nagi. Either it be his net worth, the world— or their dream, 

anything.

“Reo, you’re staring.” Nagi muttered as he turned his head to look towards a now blushing Reo.

“Oh! Sorry! You just…” Reo tried to reply, but the words died down at his throat as Nagi placed his hand ontop of his.

“Hm.” Nagi hummed, now staring at Reo.

His eyes were full of innocence and a blooming flower in spring. The slight sparkle in his eyes yet, looking so distant from the world, captivated Reo.

“You’re… You’re beautiful.” He spoke so softly, yet subconsciously. 

He didn’t register what he said until Nagi tilted his head, and had a small smile on his face.

“Reo is too.”

Nagi just stared at him, he blinked once— then twice.

“You’re supposed to be gone—“

Nagi groaned, rolling over and picking up his phone, answering Chigiri’s call.

“Hello?…” 

“Nagi! Are you okay!?” Chigiri yelled, his voice filled with concern.

“Hm, they sound worried. Wonder how long it’s been?” The other asked, laying next to Nagi on his stomach and kicking his feet, something he’d never do.

“Wha—“

“It’s been two days! Where are you!?” Ness was with Chigiri, and sounded disgustingly worried.

“My… dorm?…” Nagi muttered, rolling over to his side and looking at his wall, tracing the invisible shapes with his eyes.

“Are you okay?” Rin asked, taking the phone from the others currently panicking.

“Yeah, I just caught the flu… sorry, I was sleeping for a while…” He responded, a pang of guilt surging through him.

“We’re coming over, Nagi.” Chigiri stated before hanging up, probably dragging the others to go with him.

If that isn’t a way to wake him up, he’d really rather go to sleep again, but he needs to eat anything he could stomach right now before the others come.

He sat up and yawned, stretching as he let himself relax. He felt stiff as a board, sleeping for nearly a whole day. 

He still felt like utter shit, to say the least.

He let himself get up, holding onto the wall for support as his vision danced with the gaping black spots filling his eyes.

The other him lingered, walking slowly beside Nagi as he struggled to exit his room on his own. It kept its gaze locked on him, a faint smile on its lips. Nagi was too exhausted to ignore it, but the feeling of something bubbling in his chest wouldn’t leave.
