Chapter Text
This was it, today was the final day. The lacrosse team was going to have their last game, whether Liam won or not, the bet was going to be over in a matter of hours.
Theo is convinced that he has done all he can to try and win Liam over, drive him away from his previous relationship and stay boyfriends, for real this time. But it was obvious that Theo was hoping all too much for nothing to come out on the other end. He stuffed his hands, one still bruised, into his pockets to stay warm. His warm breath condensed enough to appear in the cold, evening air. The sun was setting earlier too, since it was basically in the beginning of winter. Theo enjoyed staying indoors for most of the time when it got freezing outside, but he wouldn’t miss Liam’s last game.
“Hey, good luck on the game out there… don’t let the nerves get to you.” Theo wished for Liam to win, watching the way he nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, thanks,” he paused while adjusting his hat, “I’m guessing you’ll keep cheering me on?”
Theo snorted, “Obviously, I am only your boyfriend for…” he checked his watch, “about three hours. Two if you end up scoring so high and not even letting the other team get ahead.”
“Well, that’s not too bad. Just don’t yell too much like last time.” Referring to all the previous matches Theo would proudly cheer and even argue with the opposing team’s crowd, it was hectic each time. He chuckled, “No promises, this is my last chance to annoy you.”
He paused, “Unless… you’re willing to let me stick around? Boyfriend title out of the way.” Liam raised his head, noticing the soft look on his face, unaware of the real things happening inside. “We both make good company, admit it or not.” He was willing to stay around even if he had to push his feelings aside.
Liam slightly smiled, “I guess… I wouldn’t mind, if you’re willing to keep driving me around.”
Theo’s lips slowly lifted into a smile, “I don’t mind tutoring either, your grades have gotten a lot better. Otherwise I can just give you part of the promised cash and leave this behind us?”
“Um…” Liam thought about it for a moment, feeling the way his heart was reacting to this, “it’s fine with me since you’re okay with tutoring.” He swallowed, “As long as the bet is over and done with after tonight.”
“Yeah… yeah of course, no more dragging you to parties or festivals.” Theo promised, and Liam chuckled.
“Good, no more stupid shenanigans.” Even though they were very fun, “Speaking of parties, if we win the tournament tonight… There's gonna be a whole celebration afterwards. Everyone’s invited.”
Theo picked up on the indirect invitation, “I’ll see about that, as long as there’s free booze, I’m there.” He chuckled and Liam just rolled his eyes, hearing the way people were cheering from the stands, waiting for all the players to get ready and into position before the game began.
“You should probably go.” Theo added, hearing the loud whistle from Coach, turning back to the lacrosse captain. Admiring him for a moment longer.
“Yeah, I’ll see you later.” He softly smiled and Theo returned it, feigning carelessness. “See you, sweetheart.” He said one last time which elicited a groan from Liam, jogging away and onto the field. Theo watched him jog away before making his way up to the bleachers. Unaware of the way Liam’s heart fluttered at the nickname, it was the last nickname he was calling him.
Theo doesn’t think the gentle teasing will continue afterwards.
It’s funny how in the same seat at the bleachers, just back on the day of the first tournament, Theo made a bet that he would make Liam fall for him, convince everyone that they’re dating (which has been swell) but ended up falling first instead. All his own doing. Josh made an appearance next and waved to the other guys before sitting beside Theo, “Hey, doing okay?”
Theo sighed, sitting back, “Just fine.” He responded, Josh got the hint and stayed quiet for a moment before just having the need to say something, “It’s good that you’re not… exactly trying to sabotage him and Hayden anymore. As much as you like him.”
The green-eyed boy turned to his roommate, “Yeah well… it’s better this way. I probably won’t join the afterparty.”
“Woah, Theo Raeken not coming to a party? Heard there’s free booze they’re sneaking in too.” Josh was surprised, it seems like Liam really got under his skin after all.
Theo scoffed, “Not feeling it tonight, and you better not have the other guys make a big fuss about it… you all still owe me heavy cash.” Josh groaned at the reminder.
“I deserve a discount for dealing with your chaotic plans and moping!”
He sighed at the words, “Too bad, it’s only gonna get worse from here. No discount.” Josh just rolled his eyes and smacked his shoulder, “You’ll be fine! Quit being dramatic.”
Theo hoped Josh was right, but he knew he wouldn’t be fine. Watching the boy of his dreams stand in the middle of the field.

The crowd cheered loud, people standing up and yelling out to the winning team: Beacon Hills College! It was a shock as both teams held up very well, getting tied before the fiery captain scored the last shot and the whole team exclaimed and huddled together in victory.
Liam yelled out too, a bright grin on his face, everyone was seemingly happy about this win, except for the opposing team, obviously. Mason and Corey rushed to Liam after he took his helmet off.
“You won dude!” Mason exclaimed, both of them hugging him even though Liam was sweaty, happily celebrating. “Congrats! All the hard work paid off.” Corey smiled, admirably speaking.
Liam was still grinning, “Yes! Oh, I didn’t think I would actually win.” He caught his breath, laughing with the others.
“Yeah well, you proved everyone wrong.” Mason patted his back before giving him some water, taking a look around.
“Where’s Theo?” Mason questioned, surprised to not see the elder boy come up to them to congratulate Liam before anybody else would. Liam was looking across the bleachers, distracted, “Theo? I-I don’t know, but he’ll probably show up at the afterparty.”
Mason looked at Corey with a confused expression, “I gotta go find Hayden, I’ll catch up with you guys later!” He dismissed quickly and left the field where the team was celebrating their long-awaited win. Mason and Corey were left to try and make sense of what happened, “I guess the bet really did end…” he acknowledged, Corey hummed in response, “Yeah, I just didn’t think Liam would be so dismissive.”
Meanwhile, Liam walked by the bleachers, going behind the structures, peeling his eyes for Hayden. They had a specific spot they would always use either after games or when they skipped classes together. Soon spotting a brunette standing around, waving goodbye to another girl. “Hayden! Hi.” He greeted, pulling back his damp hair, smiling wide.
She turned to him with a small smile, surprised even. “Oh, hey Liam. Congrats!” She responded and he nodded, “Yeah, thanks! Feels good to finally win…” he caught his breath and continued before Hayden spoke.
“I-I wanted to say that the bet with Theo is over… we can keep… you know, go back to dating.” He stepped closer, admiring the way the white overhead lighting hit her face. As much as his gut was giving him mixed feelings, remembering the times he admired Theo under every other light that shined on them. Even the spotlight.
“Actually Liam… about that.” She sounded hesitant.
“What? What’s wrong?” He was getting a little worried.
She was fiddling with her fingers behind her back, “I don’t think it’s a good idea to get back together.” She finally said.
“What?” His heart sank. “You can’t be serious.” Noticing the guilty but blunt expression on Hayden’s face.
“I am serious, it’s complicated and I know it’s shocking to hear but… I just don’t want to.”
Liam constantly kept her in the back of his mind, even though for the past week or so Theo had been nagging him even when he was away. His heart palpitating quicker each time they met, he was thankful every time that Theo wasn’t able to hear the way his heart reacted. But Hayden was always his number one, they’ve been together for years, it wasn’t right to end it like this. “W-Why?” His voice slightly broke, but he cleared his throat, “I mean, is it the bet? I swear none of it—”
“No, Liam… it wasn’t just about the bet. I’ve been distant lately and I…” she was struggling to find words as he was struggling with processing this, “I don’t feel the spark between us anymore. I’m sorry.” Hayden swallowed, at least it was from guilt. Liam just stared, getting the worst news in the world.
“So… none of this is my fault, is what you’re saying?”
Hayden quickly shook her head, “No, it’s not. Everything’s changing for me, for both of us. I can’t be the only one that thinks there’s no more excitement in the relationship… and you love excitement.”
Liam furrowed his eyebrows, “It’s not all about excitement, I get to know all of you… everything about you. I love you.”
Hayden held eye contact but softly scoffed, “What?” The boy questioned.
“I think you’re saying that to the wrong person, Liam.”
His eyes widened in turn, “No… you don’t mean—”
“I do mean him, Liam. I can see how much you like him.”
He sighed in frustration, “Like and love are on different levels! You don’t get to dictate that.”
“Yes but… but you know we’ve slowly been drifting apart anyway.” Hayden stated, and Liam hated to agree but it did feel like it. How they’re so focused on different things in their life, so easy to love each other, but he’d been clinging onto his first love since the beginning.
You can’t blame him, others loving him was never easy, and he didn’t want to ever let go of something so good… though it felt like something good was slipping out of his hands. He needed to catch it and hold on tighter than ever.
“It was just a stupid bet Hayden… he’s not part of this.” She crossed her arms.
“Liam, I know you. You’re just not admitting… I can’t be the only one that sees it between the two of you.” He sighed deeply. Even Mason and Corey apparently see it. “Come on, have you not seen the way he looks at you?” She added, observing the conflicted expression on Liam's face before he turns to her again, fingers pulling at his hair, trying to physically form thoughts.
She continued, “The way you guys are so affectionate, how he handles you, even others can see it. Fake or not.”
Liam sighed, thinking back to all the different scenarios they were both put in where they had to pretend. But there were moments where it felt almost… real. Like the bet didn't matter. Hayden took the quiet from Liam as her answer, “You don't have to keep denying it you know. Even with yourself.”
Liam finally raised his head to meet her gaze, both saddened by the circumstances but understanding where this was leading them both to. “It’s really over… isn’t it?” He hated the way his voice quieted down so much, so tiny.
Hayden slowly nodded with a small smile, “Yeah… for the better.” She paused, “You’re not the only one that’s had their eye on someone else.” She added by the end. Liam blinked before nodding along, understanding what she meant.
“Wow, okay…” He spoke, so awkwardly. Hayden rubbed her arm, both of them listening to the loud cheers on the field, the night was far from over after such a big victory.
“Well… um.” Liam tried to speak about anything. Or simply try to handle this smoothly, but with the chance of actually getting to Theo now… all he could think back on was something they shared. “I did kiss him once.” He blurted out, needing to get that off his chest since they were over. Hayden’s eyes widened, “You did? For the bet?”
“Yeah, the bet… it was for the bet but I… I remember really liking it.” He finally admitted aloud, licking over his bottom lip subconsciously, “And that made me panic so much, but I just couldn't stop thinking about it.”
She gently approached him, understanding his intentions and how all of those jumbled thoughts don’t make sense when trying to voice it. “But… you wanted more of it, right?”
Liam slowly nodded, guilt ebbing away at him inside but Hayden didn’t seem to be too hurt about it. Almost like it was expected. “Well… you always get what you want in the end.” She paused, “And I’m not going to be the one trying to stop you. It’s really okay to feel that way. Both ways.” She hinted.
He got the hint this time, “I-I know… I have your support.” He paused, raising his hand to touch her but refrained from doing so, “You don’t want to rethink this or anything?” He tried one last time to self-jeopardize.
She softly smiled, “I think you better get going before he leaves.” Watching the way Liam’s shoulders stayed tense, as much as she could reassure him, it wasn’t going to resolve his issues and wants. “We’ll talk later, Liam. Good luck.”
He watched her walk away, his own feet still planted on the ground but he knew he needed to get moving. Liam turned, rushing towards the parking lot, teary eyes scanning every car in hopes of spotting the truck and its driver. He wipes away the sweat-mixed tears with the back of his hand, he seriously needed a shower.
But Theo’s car wasn’t there, Liam searched far and wide but to no avail, Theo had left early while the celebration was just getting started. Ignoring the multitude of dings sounding from his phone, baffled with everything that’s happened.
⋆⁺₊⋆ ──────────⊱✦✮✦⊰────────── ⋆⁺₊⋆
Liam stood in front of the front door, he didn't know he got there or how fast he ran. But the way he was breathing heavily indicated an exhausting run. Shakily knocking on the front door. Four knocks, sounding urgent, he rarely did three knocks. He can’t even hold back the nervousness, especially when his heartbeat skyrocketed because the door twisted open, revealing a startled but so ravishing Theo.
His eyes widened at the sudden appearance, sweatpants hanging off his hips. “Liam?” He noticed the unreadable but heartbroken look in his eyes, the tears threatening to spill over. “What are you doing here?” Liam stepped into his space instead of answering.
“Was it only a game?”
“What?”
“I said… was it just a game to you? The kiss? Everything?” He wasn’t even angry if it turned out to be just a game, a bet, meaning nothing. He was only desperate for answers. First Hayden, now Theo, it wasn’t going to end well if Liam’s back in his own dorm room by the end, all alone.
Theo was confused, but the mention of the kiss got his blood pumping, “I… not entirely.” He paused, “Not with the kiss we shared.” He added, swallowing as he watched Liam.
Who stood still, chest heaving with every deep breath he took. Eyes softening as he fully took him in, “Liam, what is goin—”
He was interrupted as Liam pushed forward.
Lips crashed against lips, uneven as their noses bumped together before Liam tilted his head a slight. Theo’s heart leaped, he’s only had a taste of Liam once and it wasn’t as spontaneous or prolonged as this. Liam’s shaky hands traveled up to cup his face, Theo slowly held his hips with taut desire, falling into it with hope.
Mindlessly stepping inside, without asking to come in, Liam pushed first and Theo pulled after, messily slamming the door shut before pushing Liam’s back against it, earning a small groan.
Just before it escalated, Liam gently parted away from him, even though it was mere seconds, it felt like an eternity just kissing him. Theo held his gaze and his body itched to wrap his arms around the boy, but a conformation was all that was needed. “Thought the bet was done.” He spoke softly, voice scratchy.
Liam swallowed, thumb gently brushing across his cheek, like tenderly touching glass, feeling the dry and rough skin as streaks down his face. Meeting his gaze, eyes drier compared to his own unspilled tears.
“No more bets… it’s real this time. I want it to be.” He confirmed, syncing both of their racing hearts together. Theo observed his expression, no deceiving signs. “You know I’m not lying.”
“You better not be.” Theo responded, leaning in closer, hesitating in his movement just to see if Liam was really sure about this. He saw nothing but the want in his eyes. Taking the chance and dipped in to capture Liam’s lips again, kissing each other with less fakeness and fear, more realness and desire.
Liam hummed softly against his mouth, fingers traveling up in the messy locks and gripping them. Theo groaned at the sensation it sent down his spine, carefully parting his lips to lick across his bitten bottom lips, just like he wanted to last time. Only now Liam obliged to deepen the kiss and let Theo in.
Slowly sliding their bodies together, grabbing at each other, mostly Liam’s hands were everywhere, whilst Theo kept tilting and bobbing their head together with each breathtaking kiss.
Only pulling back in need of air, resting their foreheads together, his heart racing as Liam slithered his fingers beneath his sweatshirt, rubbing and ready to yank it off of him.
Theo could practically taste the need between them in the air, charged tension, but he wasn’t about to quickly get this over with.
Liam’s breath hitched with the way Theo kissed his way down his neck, one kiss at a time, counting to five–nipping at his collarbone whilst pushing his ripped collar aside.
“Five kisses… you owe me, remember?” Theo breathed against flushed skin, nosing his way up to the back of his ear to whisper those words. Liam was losing his mind, not trying to recollect their past interactions, but he did remember. He didn’t forget anything Theo’s said to him, as much as he tried to push it all away. Theo had a talent to cling onto him and stay in his mind uninvited.
He swallowed, fluttering his eyes open to look his way, “Mm… but do you deserve them?” He retorted and Theo felt a rush course through him, Liam was so good at one-upping him. He slowly slithered his hand down the back of Liam’s thigh, raising it, held against his hip just so they’re really body-to-body.
“Don’t I? Been so patient with you all this time, besides… you came crawling back for more.” Liam inhaled sharply, they both knew where this was going.
He bit down on his lip, Theo watching the motion with detail. Liam exhaled before speaking, “I like to bite… not as gentle.” He decided to go with, always being a biter. He loves kisses, don't get him wrong— but he doesn’t know how to make someone melt with just a kiss like Theo does.
The corners of Theo’s lips lifted, “You like to bite? Even better, Love.” He squeezed his thigh, “Leave bite marks all over me, as you like. I just need you to stay.” Liam flushed red, he couldn't believe that this was happening, every other worry dissipating from his mind.
Besides, he never truly got to explore his deepest desires all this time. Perhaps Theo really is the only one who can handle him.
“I’ll stay,” he promised, pulling the boy's head back to lean in and nip at his neck, in the small dip beneath his ear, “stay all night.” Theo didn't hold back the half-groan half-growl it elicited.
“You’re gonna be the death of me, Love.” The way Theo called him ‘Love’ got Liam feeling hotter all over. The pit in his stomach deepened with heat. Biting his lower lip, which always attracted Theo’s gaze, who leaned in to kiss and bite it for him instead.
The point from the front door to the bed was in a blurry flash, the sound of the door kicking shut, shoes thrown aside as pairs landed across the wooden floor, the rustling of sheets as they both fought against the clothing in the way of their bodies touching. All blending into the background as they could only focus on each other. Sharing breath between kiss-swollen lips, Theo’s never experienced such intense hunger and passion to this extent.
He rolled Liam onto his back, Theo making sure they both landed on the bed gently, he could only stare down at Liam’s exposed chest, decorated with hair. Liam got a hold of his hips, straddling his waist.
“Y’really don’t know how much it killed me not to kiss you again.” He spoke hoarsely, running his fingertips down Liam’s hot torso, burning himself but not pulling back. “Have you all to myself.”
Liam let out a soft moan, feeling unable to form words, and Theo acted by crushing their lips together again. Licking into Liam’s mouth, goodness, was he an expert with his tongue. Liam’s back arched up, desperate for more contact. “Fuck, you’re so pretty. So gorgeous.” Theo praised. Sharing breath between kisses, from their lungs, nails digging into each other’s skin, all to prove that this is real. That this is actually happening and not a fever dream, so lost in their own space.
Liam soothed the indents from his nails with his palm, rubbing over Theo’s… freckled back. He had freckles, that’s so cute, Liam didn’t know that but he is slowly grinning. Tipping his head back as Theo paid attention to the expanse of his neck. He was undoubtedly obsessed.
He looked down at his hunched back, having the urge to just count each little mark. And leave his own marks. Theo revealed a deep side of him, all possessive.
“I-I tried to forget how right it felt kissing you that festival night…” Liam whispered, voice shaky and thick with lust, right as Theo traced his collarbone with kisses and smoothened it with a wet swipe of his tongue, throat vibrating with the words while Theo’s damp hair brushed against his skin. “Didn’t work at all.” He sighed.
Theo raised his head, “Then you’ll never forget tonight…” he whispered back, holding the captured gaze as his index finger trailed down from his abs to the edge of Liam’s waistband, adoring the happy trail along the way. Asking for permission silently when he teased and pulled on the edge.
Liam bit his lower lip, nodding as granting it, “I hope not.” He replied, gently pulling Theo down to meet his lips again, this time in a tentative, gentle kiss. Theo fluttered his eyes shut, pupils blown wide already. No rush, Theo melted right into him before they tried anything else for the long awaited—passionate night. Gently pinching Liam’s exposed hipbone with want.

It was well past midnight, around two in the morning. Josh finally unlocked the front door and let himself inside even after text spamming Theo throughout the night, since he didn’t show up to the party. Josh had still doubted the fact Theo wouldn’t show up, so he was surprised.
He sighed, taking off his shoes while trying not to lose balance as he did have a drink or two, maybe three. Ruffling his damp hair (thanks to the rain) and pulling off his jacket, now hung up on the coat-hanger. “Oh boy…” He walked by the living area, left messy as usual with the movie on the TV paused. He turned it off before walking down the hallway.
Worrying for his best friend, Josh walked up to the bedroom door, forgetting to knock and opening it, “Hey budd—” He cut himself off, biting his tongue.
Eyes widened at the sight of Theo cuddled up with— oh my god is that Liam?! Josh almost lost his mind at the realization, jaw basically dropped. He observed the way they were both holding each other, Liam’s head resting beside his shoulder, naked. Theo’s arm wrapped over Liam’s figure, hair messed up along with the sheets.
Josh concluded that Theo had more fun tonight than anybody else did. He slowly tiptoed out of the room and shut the door with a gentle click. “Yes!” He quietly exclaimed, happy for his best friend for finally getting with his crush, before moving to his room and passing out in his own bed. Drunkenly happy.

Soft thunder rumbled outside, looming above in the grey sky after a night shower, surely knocking all of the leaves off of trees and dampening the ground. The curtains were slightly pulled open, letting a small shine of the day inside the messy room. Clothes strewn on the wooden floor by the edge of the bed. All peaceful.
Bed sheets and blankets rumpled between the heap of two bodies tangled in a clingy, cuddling scene. Liam was lying on his stomach while snoozing, face smushed against the plush pillow, Theo’s arm wrapped snugly around the boy’s waist, legs intertwined. Theo was the first to wake up, slowly fluttering his eyes open to a sight he had previously daydreamed about. Inhaling deeply, catching the scent of slight sweat but blocked by the honeysuckle from Liam’s soft hair and body cream.
He didn’t dare move yet, admiring the peaceful expression on Liam’s face, hair messed up and his bicep on full display as his forearm was underneath the squished pillow. Theo slowly smiled, tracing each part with his gaze, spotting the light bite mark on Liam’s bicep, he really couldn’t resist him last night.
Last night, that was passionate, blurry even. The way Liam looked up at him with those beautiful, ocean-blue eyes, always pulling him in, wordlessly begging for more. And how could Theo deny such beauty and need? They weren't even satiated after one round.
He gently ran his fingers through Liam’s hair, smoothing it out and touching him without anything in the way. Fingertips travelling down the nape of his neck, he peppered so many kisses on that neck of his, and was surely going to do it again.
All thoughts about time and studies and even the game yesterday, were all forgotten when all he could think about was spending his time with Liam instead. Whether it’d be continued in bed, or anything else they desired to do. Theo can drive them around, after all. Even though he’d rather spend the day indoors and in warm arms, following the heavy rain.
Leaning closer without hesitance, face nuzzled against where his neck and shoulder connected. Theo let his lips do the kissing, affection poured onto Liam as he continued with the soft pecks till the start of his spine. “Liam…” he roughly spoke, first word of the day, hand rubbing up and down his curved side, gently pinching his hip. “Wake up.” He added, whispering and watching the sleepy captain begin to stir.
Groaning and stretching out like a cat, Theo chuckled and took the opportunity to kiss his way down his spine, till the arch of his small back, he was beginning to get hungry again.
“Mmh… what’re you doing?” Liam questioned with a beginning hum.
“Kissing you softly… I need to kiss you everywhere.”
Liam’s heart was already fluttering with the affection, “So doting.” Theo smiled against his warm skin, planting one last kiss before raising back up to meet his eyes at the same level.
“What can I do? You’re all cuddled up in my bed, I can’t resist.”
Liam kept his head rested against the pillow, squinted eyes revealing a hint of the pretty blue behind eyelids. “It's so damn early…” he grumbled, hiding them again and Theo groaned softly, mocking Liam’s complaining sounds.
“Maybe it is, but I wanna spend the whole day with your ass.” He paused, “We could stay in bed for a bit longer… just sleep, or talk.” Staring back at one another, gently tracing the line of his spine with his warm touch this time. Liam let him continue, receiving soft shocks through him. Bathing in the afterglow of it all.
He took the suggestion in mind, “We could talk and cuddle, then eat later.” He hummed in thought of food and Theo rolled his eyes. “That works for me.” He whispered. It was obvious that they both wanted to take it slow. They already had a preview of dating each other, but that was only for a game. Now they came out victorious on both ends. True and genuine, all the more worthwhile.
Both boys stayed in their built space, tracing shapes on skin and managing calm thoughts for once. Until Theo interrupted, "Mind sharing what was going through your mind last night? Before... crashing here?" He questioned, curious really. The whole time with their bet, Liam would recall back to his sweet girlfriend.
Liam bit his lower lip at that, about to rub his neck as well. "Oh... well, I found Hayden after the game and she um... didn't take me back." He sighed, being straightforward. Theo's eyebrows raised, he didn't quite expect that as much as he was hoping for it. "Seriously?"
Liam slowly nodded, tracing circles on Theo's chest while speaking. "Yeah, I didn't expect that from her but... she made me realize how good this was, and how it would be a shame to let it slip away." He met his eyes, "That's why I came running to your dorm, I completely forgot about the afterparty." He slightly smiled at his reckless thinking.
Theo gently simmered down, rubbing his back, "Wow... well, can't say I'm not glad for her interference." He joked, then again, he was wondering why Liam was on the verge of tears when he first opened up the door. "I can tell you're saddened by it... the timing was-"
"It's not really about the timing, it was just... I think I kept ignoring how distant we both became. Way before you came to me with the bet." He finally admitted, what he feared most before had come true and it felt like a weight off of his shoulders, almost.
"Mhm." Theo nodded, listening intently.
"And when she finally said that she didn't want to be with me anymore... it shocked me at first." He caressed Theo's cheek, "Then I felt relief seeing you. I just wanted to see even if you didn't take me either." He confessed, and Theo leaned his head into the palm of the boy's hand.
He slowly smiled, "Those thoughts are behind us now. I was devastated back here myself... wasn't even gonna come to the party." That surprised Liam, "Yeah, I know, the party animal not joining a party, shocking." He sighed, "But I couldn't bear to see you and Hayden together there. I knew I would've probably done something outlandish." He also admitted, even with the cost of Liam hating him for getting the way of him and Hayden, it would be way better than being in love with him and he just has to watch.
Liam felt bad, guilty like it was his fault for making Theo feel this way. "Now we have each other." He reassured and Theo nodded, squeezing his waist, "Yeah, and I'm not letting you get away so easily." He kissed his cheek and down to his neck.
Liam tilted his head back, feeling the butterflies erupt in his belly again, soft lips igniting the heat between them Until Liam felt a soft sting from a mark Theo left on his neck, the stupid mosquito. He hissed, “What?” Theo spoke up.
“Nothing.” He paused, “I was just thinking… I really don't remember rubbing my neck, the night of the party.” Liam reminded, “I think you wanted to kiss me there.” He softly accused, reading the twinkle in Theo’s eyes.
Theo’s cheeks warmed, “You think so?”
“Yeah… because you left more than one kiss.”
He swallowed. “Had to be convincing.” Theo slowly smiled, “But I guess I’m guilty.” A chuckle escaped his lips when Liam exclaimed, “I knew it! And you blamed it on me.”
He blushed like an idiot watching him, remembering the night he was dared in that circle and when they got stuck in the closet. Not for long thanks to Liam’s impatience.
“Yeah, but I wasn't going to admit to it. I couldn't help it… such a cute habit of rubbing your neck made me think of pressing a few kisses there, just to see what reaction I would get.” His eyes flicked down to Liam’s neck, just a few light marks scattered about, he didn’t want to go too far.
Liam ignored the way his cheeks heated up at his honest response, this guy was too straightforward sometimes. “Doesn’t give you the right to leave marks everywhere!” He grabbed a pillow and slammed it into his face.
Theo pulled it down while laughing, “I do have the right, actually. Don’t act like you didn’t use me like a personal chew toy!” He responded and stuffed the pillow into his face, Liam’s yelp was silenced by the pillow before he pushed Theo off and tackled him back instead. Liam did say he was a biter, and he had kept his word by leaving a few scattered bite marks on Theo.
Theo didn’t even struggle, feeling shivers as Liam held him by his biceps and getting further tangled with the blanket. “You’re so annoying!” He replied but couldn’t hold back his laugh when he stared down at Theo, who slowly raised his free hand and combed through Liam’s untamed locks. “You’re just as equally annoying.” He added.
Liam rolled his eyes but didn’t pull away from Theo’s soft touch. “Mm, too bad it’s official.” Liam sighed and lay down on him, resting his head on Theo’s chest. Theo’s heart essentially leaped at his words, his smile widening. “Yeah, guess it is official. We’re no longer fake boyfriends.” He remarked and Liam just groaned comically.
“Then I take it back.” Liam quickly said and raised his head again, “Oh, sure you will.” He interrupted whatever Liam’s response would’ve been with a soft kiss to his lips. Both of them slowly got lost in the moment, with Theo turning them onto their sides, just sharing soft kisses. Liam’s hand ran down Theo’s back, leaving a trail of shivers along the freckles.
Theo pulled back, but not without pecking his lips a few times, making them turn upright in a gentle smile. Theo mirrored it and stayed within kissing distance, keeping his arms wrapped around Liam’s figure. “I still can’t believe you broke Brett’s ankle like that.” He sighed.
Theo raised an eyebrow, “You thinking about Brett when in bed with me?” He questioned, still a little jealous but he knew that he was better than Brett anyway. Liam rolled his eyes and stayed, “No, it just came to mind. You went so far as to break his ankle just to get rid of some rumors?” He was skeptical.
Theo sighed, seeing that he caught on. “There were rumors, I didn’t lie… but I also hated the idea of that piece of shit trying to get back to you again, it made me protective of you.” He paused, “And it saved your ass, didn’t it?” Liam kept silent as Theo was proud.
He took his silence as a response, “I am not gonna say sorry for breaking that asshole’s ankle, he deserved what was coming.” Theo grumbled which in turn made Liam slowly smile.
“Well… it just sounds like you’re jealous, to me.” He watched the way Theo looked away, “But I do thank you for breaking his ankle… even though you didn’t have to go that far at all.” He added, even when his own angry thoughts were worse, he learned to hold back and not act on them. Whilst Theo did whatever he thought was right.
Theo cupped his face, “You don’t gotta thank me for anything, he was messing with the wrong person’s fake boyfriend.” He added to make Liam chuckle, before kissing him softly again. He just couldn’t get enough of all the kisses. Liam ran his fingers through Theo’s hair for a change, letting him cuddle up and kiss his neck.
It didn’t take long before another thought came to mind, and Liam couldn’t help but voice it.
“Hey, by the way…”
“Hm?” He hummed, nuzzled into the crook of Liam’s neck.
“Um, why’d you pick me? Out of all people,” he pulled back to see him, “and don't start blaming your friends—”
Theo interrupted bluntly, looking up, “I wanted you.”
Liam paused, “What?” His heartbeat changed at a quick pace.
“I wanted you, specifically.” He expressed gently again, “I mean, my friends did mention you and egg me on, that part was true… but I had my eye on you for such a while. And I wanted you… so I took the opportunity to get closer.” Tucking soft hairs behind Liam’s ear.
Liam slowly nodded, “So… you were planning on doing a bet with me anyway?”
Theo sighed in return, “Honestly, I didn’t even have a bet in mind. But it was one way and… now I have you. All mine.” He kept his small smile, watching the way Liam tried to be a little unfazed.
“Well… I guess Mason had the right idea.” Liam practically admitted defeat, Mason somehow always read the signs right and proved Liam wrong. “Mason? What did he say?” Theo curiously asked.
“He was just saying how you’re totally into me and trying to figure out why you picked me for the bet.” Theo hummed in acknowledgement.
“Well, you are a great pick, that’s for sure. The only one.” He responded and left one last peck on Liam’s lips, who returned it after a slow reading of his face. Still surprised with how things ended up between them.
After the quiet moment, Theo slowly sat up and stretched out his arms, as much as he wanted to stay cuddled up in bed, they needed to get ready for the day. Whilst Liam watched the back muscles stretch and refrained from biting his lower lip at the sight. Seeing as he was shirtless, he remembered.
“Um… wait, I’m still naked.” He added, covering up till his torso with the blanket as if he felt enough shame to hide himself.
Theo turned back to him, “Mhm, are you trying to entice me again?” He smirked, his tentative touch slipping down to his waist. Thumb pressing gently onto the hickey he knew he placed there.
Liam hissed and blushed pink from the neck up, “I am not! Keep it in your… just shut up.” Theo chuckled and rubbed his side, acting innocent. “You can’t blame me for thinking that, you just lure me in so easily, even though I’m usually the bait.”
Liam rolled his eyes, “Well I got caught, but no one’s being the bait anymore.” He was almost sounding possessive, but with the way everything’s been going, he didn’t need to be worried of another fake dating bet happening with Theo anytime soon.
Theo raised his eyebrows slightly at the way Liam’s words were revealing a little possessiveness. “I definitely agree.” He got to the edge of the bed and pulled on his own boxers from the floor. Letting the other boy watch as he sat up as well.
Theo got up and walked to the side of his room. “From what I remember, your clothes are dirty.” He slowly smiled, “So you can borrow mine for the meantime.” He carefully rummaged through his drawers in search of simple, warm clothing. Maybe one of his favorite sweaters.
Liam sighed, “Fine… wait, is that my hoodie?”
“Hm?” He noticed it, folded on his dresser neatly, “Oh yeah, you're not getting that back.” Theo glanced back mischievously, the other boy expecting that response. “Of course, I’m already getting robbed of my clothes because of you.”
Theo didn’t deny it, closing up the drawers and turning back.
“Here,” Theo places down a full set of clothes beside Liam, including the Playboy boxer briefs he mentioned on time matching together, “you can use the shower too, before Josh wakes up.”
Liam picks up the clothes and snorts at the sight of the familiar boxers, “Yeah, alright… you joining?” He raised an eyebrow.
Theo turned to him, “I know you’re teasing, but don’t tempt me.” He warned, Theo could barely hold back in bed let alone whilst showering. Kidding, maybe not. “I’ll make us breakfast instead.” He came closer with a few steps, pressing a soft kiss to Liam’s plush lips, “Call me if you need anything.” Before walking out of the room.
Liam looked after him, distracted, then deciding to take the clothes and go to the bathroom, locking the door before taking his sweet time in the shower. Rinsing off the dried sweat on him, but remnants of the night still stayed.
It wasn't long before Josh woke up all grumpy and headed to the bathroom. He stood by the door and heard the soft running of water, figuring that the shower was on, he sighed and waited outside.
After a couple of minutes, he got cranky enough to knock on the door, “Raeken, come on! Quit hogging the bathroom!” He complained, then heard the shower head shut off.
“I’m in the kitchen, dude!’ Theo yelled back, confusing the boy who turned back to the door.
“What? Then who’s—” He got interrupted as Liam unlocked the door, thankfully with a robe covering him. “Um—”
“Oh my god!” Josh exclaimed, Theo didn't know if he should laugh or facepalm. “You’re… you and… oh it happened!” He finally recollected what he saw last night. Exclaiming with happiness.
Liam stared, wide-eyed and blushy as he didn’t know what to do. Keeping his hand on the door and wiping his hair. Theo finally walked up to them with nothing but his boxers and a pair of sweatpants on. Josh turned to him with a raised high-five as if Liam wasn't there. “Up here!”
Theo rolled his eyes but high-fived him anyway, hearing the soft huff from Liam. “Yeah, it happened.”
“How? When? I want the all the details!” He asked, earning nothing but silence and noticing the exchanged looks between the lovebirds.
“Oh, oh you know what? I get it, it's fine! You're telling me later.” He smacked Theo’s shoulder, who just clicked his tongue.
“Just go and do your business, come on.” He pulled Liam out of the way and pushed Josh in. His fingers wrapped around Liam’s dried wrist. “Don't get too busy now!” Josh exclaimed and Theo turned to Liam.
“Ignore the idiot.” Liam laughed, “It's fine, he's more excited about this than we are.” He responded and noticed the way Theo’s eyes traveled down his chest, pausing on the cleavage window between the robe.
“Not as excited as I am.” Theo purred and leaned in closer. Liam smiled but met him in a kiss anyway, almost getting lost in each other again. Liam was the first to pull back, “Okay, we can't burn down the kitchen. I have to change anyway…”
Theo pouted exaggeratedly, “Oh fine. But I’m gonna need more kisses later.” He gently slipped his hand out of the hold as Liam walked back to the familiar bedroom to change. Proudly matching with Playboy boxers now.

“You know we don’t have to really pretend anymore, right?” Theo spoke up in the quiet of the bedroom. Josh had homework to deal with so he couldn’t join them yet. Theo continued running his fingers through Liam's hair, unable to resist having his hands on him.
Liam rested his head on the boy’s shoulder, looking at the TV. “Yeah… we really don’t.” He responded, “I guess you’re gonna be around even more often than before.” He groaned in feigned annoyance, just to tease Theo, who chuckled.
“Oh definitely, you can’t get rid of me that easily now. Acting all annoyed when I make an appearance.” He held Liam a little closer, comfortable in his arms.
Liam rolled his eyes and decided to check his phone, as it was silenced and unheard of last night in the… heat of the moment. He scrolled through his notifications and saw a bunch of spam from Mason and Corey. They were just wondering where he was when the party was happening, and what he was up to.
Right… Liam wasn’t even back at his shared dorm with Mason last night, he's got to go back there. Theo’s smile faltered when Liam got up reluctantly, “What’s wrong?”
“Uh, it’s Mason, I completely forgot to tell him that I won’t be back at the dorm last night.” Theo understood and nodded, “I should go back.” Liam got up with a sigh.
“I’ll come with you, I technically kept you here last night.” He smirked but followed, Liam appreciating his participation. He was just proving Mason’s previous point on how much he cares… and Hayden’s point.
They both put their shoes on and Liam was the first to go out, going down the stairs to the same floor as his dorm. Theo closed the door and followed quietly. Liam halted in front of the door and grabbed his keys to unlock it, but hearing the keys jingly got the door open.
Mason stood on the opposite side, “Dude! There you are!” He exclaimed in relief, worried for his best friend. “You weren’t at the party last night” At Mason’s tone, Corey also quickly got to the door, looking at Liam, “We got worried.” He added.
Liam rubbed his neck anxiously, Theo always noticed that adorable habit. “Sorry! I did miss the party… I got um, held up in different things.”
Mason furrowed his eyebrows, about to question his vague answer but Theo came up beside Liam, smiling a little awkwardly, “Hey you two.” Now that connected the dots.
“Oh… oh. That’s what you were doing! Okay—” Mason almost laughed, staring at Theo before returning his gaze to a blushing Liam. Corey’s jaw dropped in surprise, but they were sort of speculating.
“It’s not what it looks like!” Liam interrupted, embarrassed. Theo rolled his eyes and held his hand, “It is what it looks like.” He confirmed. Mason saw the hand holding and how Liam wasn’t acting disgusted or against it, holding it back gently instead.
“So you two are… official? Like for real this time?” Mason questioned beside Corey. Liam sighed and nodded, “Yes, I’m officially stuck with him now.” He raised their two held hands and Theo feigned hurt with a small pout, “Ouch.”
“I knew it!” Mason got elbowed, “Ehm, I meant yeah, good for you guys.” He corrected with a calmer tone, he was just happy to see Liam with somebody new and just… be his match. It was sweet to see.
“Does this mean we can go on an actual double date now?” Corey added, he loved how the first one went, even when Mason and Theo were basically competing over their dates, but it was fun.
Liam looked between them, “Well maybe—”
“Oh, not until we have our first date, as a real couple.” Theo interrupted, smirking. Meanwhile Liam’s lips stayed parted, warm blush staining his cheeks at Theo’s words. They had been so used to the dating act that Liam basically forgot that they hadn't had their first real date. It sounded very exciting.
“Oh right! That’s true. No more fake dates.” Mason nodded, agreeing with Theo for the second time, that was a streak. Liam knew by the look on Mason’s face that he wanted to know every little detail of what happened last night after the game, so with a sigh, he turned to Theo.
“I should stay… is that alright?” Theo looked back at him, “Oh, yeah. You don’t have to ask me for permission.” He smiled softly, “But I will come and annoy you later… I can’t resist.” He shrugged, knowing that maybe after tonight, they needed a little bit of space. And obviously Mason and Corey wanted the deets, so did Josh back at his dorm.
Liam smiled back, “I can’t stop you, I’ll um, see you later.” It was still a little awkward with the fake dating out of the way and revealing real feelings instead, but his thoughts melted away when Theo leaned up and kissed him before pulling away.
“Don’t miss me too much, Love.” He added, making Liam’s heart flutter with the term again.
“Tell yourself that.” He retorted and watched him walk away before Mason pulled him inside and shut the door, “Liam! You spill everything, right now!” He urgently said as Corey nodded enthusiastically, setting him down on the couch with a push.
Theo laughed as he heard Mason’s excited tone, going back to his own dorm to attend to his own roommate.

“Are you gonna tell me where we are headed now?” Liam questioned as he looked through the window, watching as they drove past the streetlamps, the sun slowly setting.
“Nope, you’ll see.” Theo responded with a small smile, he had the whole day all planned out. First, he got the promised bet money from his buddies, hard-earned cash with a real prize as well and he knew exactly how to spend it. Second, he picked up Liam early since he didn’t have anymore lacrosse practice, as much as the coach wanted another tournament already. Third, he took the boy to the cinema and watched a movie together. It wasn’t a shitty horror flick like last time back in Liam’s dorm, but an action movie which made Liam even more engaged.
The only thing he told Liam before their date was to just wear something comfortable, and he looked cute in everything, so it was a bonus. Theo made sure to intertwine their hands not even ten minutes into the movie, sharing a bucket of popcorn and stealing sips from Liam’s cherry slushie. The movie was enjoyable, but not as fun as stealing kisses from Liam just to distract him from the movie for fun. As much as he was embarrassed since there were other people in the theater, Theo didn’t care and only continued.
Now, he was driving a little farther out of town just to get the destination, whilst Liam sighed and felt left out not knowing what Theo was planning. “Are you gonna take me to a cabin in the woods and kill me?”
“No.” Theo snorted at the question. “Is it a picnic?” Theo shook his head, “Just give me a hint!”
“Uh uh, no hints, You’d figure it out, Love. Just wait and see! I promise Im not kidnapping you.” Theo looked at Liam with a smile before turning back on the road which wasn’t crowded like in town.
Liam huffed and just sat further back in his passenger seat. Listening to the radio, Theo got an idea. “There’s an aux cord in the glove compartment, you can play your own music until we get there.” He directed and Liam did so. Opening the glove compartment and taking out a black cord, “This?”
“Mhm.” Theo hummed in confirmation, glancing at Liam as he plugged in the aux cord to his phone and the car through its specific placement, the radio was silenced as Liam found a song to play.
Theo soon drove over gravel, through the trees and now Liam was curiously looking around, until they reached a little grassy area and Theo parked in the middle of it, killing the engine and turning to Liam.
“This is the place? I can’t see a thing!” He looked around, the sun already set as the moon was soon to make an appearance. Theo chuckled and unlocked the door, “Stay here for a second.”
Liam whipped his head to the driver, “What? Hey, don’t leave! This is like a horror movie where we'll get killed!” Theo could only laugh and shake his head at such an absurd claim. Maybe watching horror movies wasn’t a good idea with a paranoid Liam.
Liam huffed and just watched Theo as he disappeared in the woods, out of worry, he got out and frantically looked around. “Theo? Theo get out here! I’m—” He got interrupted by the sudden sound of electricity turning on with a switch, lighting up the area with the trees connected by warm, soft lighting of fairy lights attached around each trunk.
Liam’s eyes widened, looking around in awe at the pretty scenery, revealing a laid out blanket with extra blankets for warmth, and a basket full of food and drinks they can share. A LIGHT feast. The grass crunched softly beneath Theo’s soles as he walked towards Liam with a smile on his face.
“Found this area a while back and had to get the electricity working again, and I didn’t know who to bring… until now.” He turned to Liam who met his eyes. “This is so pretty!” Liam exclaimed. “I didn’t expect this.”
“Surprise.” Theo did jazz hands with a laugh, before gently holding Liam’s hands, “I figured we should look up at the stars too, since you like it so much.” He couldn’t stop smiling as Liam held his hands back.
“You remembered? That was like, our second day of fake dating.” Liam laughed at the memory, and Theo nodded with a raised eyebrow. “Of course I remembered. I remember everything about you. I knew you’d eventually get out of the truck in worry and try to look for me.” He spoke smugly.
Liam blushed and punched his chest, “You scared me, prick!”
Theo laughed, “But it worked, didn’t it? I had to use a bit of fear for it to go as planned.” Liam sighed before rubbing the punched spot.
“Well, no more surprises. I do love this though.” He looked around before making eye contact with Theo once again, glancing at his lips, unable to resist. “Thank you… Theo.”
Theo smiled, admiring his features and caressing his cheek. “Can I get a ‘thank you’ kiss as well?” He asked, Liam rolled his eyes before leaning in and capturing his lips in a gentle kiss.
Theo couldn’t ask for anything more, wrapping an arm around his waist to prolong the kiss before pulling back to litter pecks down Liam’s neck. Liam laughed softly, holding the back of his head, “Okay, don’t eat me now! We have a basket with food inside it, I’m guessing.” Theo pulled back with an exaggerated pout.
“Fine, I’ll keep my hands to myself… for now.” Liam pulled him towards the blanket to lay down together, excited to be stargazing with his boyfriend. They both stared up at the night sky, thankfully the clouds moved away and revealed a view full of stars, with the full moon soon to travel up to their view.
Liam smiled as admired the stars above, trying to find any constellations. Meanwhile, Theo slowly turned his head to Liam, admiring him instead. Sure, the stars were neat and pretty, but not as beautiful as Liam under the moonlight.
Liam felt a pair of hazel eyes staring at him and he turned with a chuckle, “What?” Theo shrugged, “Nothing… just admiring.” He responded, reaching for his hand without looking and Liam intertwined their fingers together before Theo could. Holding each other’s hands tightly and not letting go.
“I’m really glad how this turned out… between us.” Theo softly stated, keeping Liam’s attention on him. “Because I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Liam kept eye contact and squeezed his hand.
“Me too… I didn’t realize it early on, but I do really like you and your chaotic antics.” He paused, seeing the stars twinkle in Theo’s eyes. Or were his eyes just as pretty as the sky?
“Even though I was just using you for tutoring in the beginning.” He giggled and Theo rolled his eyes, “Well, I’m still stuck tutoring you anyway. I’ve been so nice tonight, I need to balance it out, so you have a chemistry quiz tomorrow.”
Liam laughed, “I guess I’ll need to study our chemistry tonight to prepare.” He knew it was stupid but still said it. Theo groaned, “You’re so corny.” He was silenced with a small kiss to his luscious lips. “And you’re still annoying, jerkface.”
Theo plopped back down on the blanker, “Can’t even get a better nickname.” He sighed with a click of his tongue, still making Liam laugh, "Especially when I call you Love."
Liam rolled his eyes, "Mm, too bad, Love." He reversed it and Theo almost melted like putty in his hands, "Oh, you're lethal, Dunbar." He rolled over and spread kisses across his face.
"You're blocking my view, you ass!" Liam complained but didn't push him off, earning a playful squeeze of his bum from Theo. "I have something better to admire, Love." He purred, taking his kisses down the boy's neck, where he loved to litter them most. Liam melted this time, wrapping his arms around him. "Can't believe I am into you."
Theo chuckled, "I can't believe it either, what great taste you have." He teased and Liam rolled his eyes, his focus away from the midnight sky as he stole a playful kiss from Theo, who deepened it.
Holding each other tighter, they stayed in their own little world, showing how if it was meant to be, it will be. Eternally glad that Liam agreed to Theo’s bet.
