You never thought smoking was an attractive feature, but when you saw him light up a cigarette just outside the window of the school gymnasium, your interest had been piqued.
You had a slight aversion to the idea of piercing your earss, but when you saw him pass by, the first thing that caught your eye were the ebony circles that were nestled inside his earlobes.
If by nature you were suddenly attracted to everything you stood against, then clearly that was a sign to engage. It was your chance to go dancing with the devil. A simple waltz and you would know if it was the trouble that your mind was trying to convince you of. A little tango and you would be engulfed in what your body was yearning for.
But he wasn’t what you expected. Quiet, stoic, headstrong but mellow, fierce but nonchalant. You couldn’t tell if these were characteristics that you desired, but you didn’t have much time to ponder on the notion. The whirlwind of his attention caught up to you and before you could understand it all, he was sweeping you off your feet in ways that you didn’t know could melt your heart.
“Y/n, I want to fix this world…”
It started with one night.
“I want to right the wrongs and injustices…”
“Ahh~ Ge-to…~”
Then came another.
“I want everyone to live in peace…”
“Mmph-! I-It feels so… ah~!”
And another.
“I want to keep making you feel safe and happy,”
“Geto!! G-God, please d-don’t st-op..!”
It felt like everyday, Geto would serenade you with the words that seemed to have come from his developing manifesto during the day, and take you into his arms and his body to explore the inner machinations of your soul in the night. You could never be sure if any of it was real, you were only acquaintances of what felt like moments ago. But he made a moment last forever each and every time. It could only be described as a whirlwind romance that left you dazed but aching for more.
Until one fateful night where you laid peacefully in the strong arms of his, his hands nestled in your hair that had been left unruly from your tango not too long ago. He combed through it, slowly tangling his fingers and reluctantly releasing the strands as if he was afraid of losing the memories tied to it.
“Y/n,” Geto exhaled your name, his breath warm and tickling the crook of your neck, “would you really stay with me, even if I wanted to burn the world to the ground?” His voice was a low rumble against your ear, but his words were like lightning to your senses.
You shifted away from him and furrowed your brow, his eyes showing something unreadable but a distant smile on his face nonetheless. You bit your lip and tried to think of a response, but didn’t know what answer he expected from you.
“Is it bad that I… don’t know? I cherish every feeling you give me and every moment we share, but I’m scared that I don’t know you well enough to give you an answer, Geto.” You explained softly, your eyes searching his for any sign of empathy or reassurance.
It was his turn to hesitate to respond. He eased himself upright in the bed, the sheet slipping further down his chest and revealing his toned physique that was riddled with wounds taking their time to fade back into his skin. He ran a restless hand through his hair and turned towards the side of the bed, making you slightly worried as you slowly rose from the bed as well.
“Geto…?” You held the sheet loosely to cover your chest from the cold air prickling at your skin as you hesitantly reached out to caress his backside.
“I haven’t figured out what love is, Y/n, but I know that I want to devote my entire being to you. The feeling you give me, it’s hard to explain but even harder to ignore, and I can’t just give that up.” Geto tensed up at the feeling of your tender touch before standing up from the bed, his nude resembling that of a chiseled god in your eyes. “I don’t know what the right thing to do is anymore. I need you forever, but this world needs me. Everything and everyone is selfish… The irony is cruel.” He inhaled sharply as he started to gather his discarded clothing and inch his way into them, his back still facing you the entire time.
“I want to know what it means to love before I confess that strong emotion to you. I don’t want it to be a lie…” He took a long pause, and as your breath hitched, you could hear a faint sniffle coming from him.
“You’re leaving to go fix the world, I understand that, but… You don’t have to do that alone. I can’t pretend that I’ve made sense of all your ramblings and monologues over the past couple weeks, but I know that your heart is hurting for people out there who are weaker.” You tried to keep your voice leveled, but you couldn’t help that what his words were alluding to definitely stung you a bit. “Is that why you indulged in whatever this is? Is it because you see me as inferior to you– someone who needs to be saved, Geto?” You couldn’t hold back the emotions in your question because if there was anything you did know about this man, it was his growing inability to see people as individuals.
But his response startled you.
Geto whipped around quickly with wide eyes, tears prickling at their corners as his fists gripped his shirt that was halfway on his body. “Don’t ever say something like that again. You hold so much power over me, Y/n… All of my waking thoughts are consumed by you, my every action I think about how you would perceive them– you save me from all of the horrible guilt I feel from being cursed with… everything.” His voice was wavering and he inched closer and closer to the bed until he slammed his hands down on it and was mere inches from your face, his expression full of a pain and despair you had only seen on him once before.
You were speechless, but his words only served to cut into your heart more than it mended the frays. This time, you couldn’t hold back the tears that had been welling up in your eyes.
“Th-Then don’t… l-leave…” You masked your teary face and tried to rub your eyes dry before they could fall from your nose and chin.
“I have to protect you, so that we have a future with endless peace. I can’t let the monkeys of this world sully your beauty and kindness.” Geto’s voice was back to its soft roll as you felt a warm grip on your chin, inclining it so that your eyes were equal to his.
“And what if I need you…? Will you be there?” You asked and immediately regretted doing so. His smile widened and his eyes closed so that you couldn’t see what you would later realize was his tell of a lie.
“Until my dying breath.”

A couple months had passed since Geto left, and that was how you learned the hard way that he was never coming back to you. Worse, he left you with a monumental mess to handle all on your own, and you were close to ending it all. So as you sat quietly at a cafe table watching the whipped cream dissolve into your hot mug of cocoa, you pondered how to respond to the white haired man that had taken you there.
“You’re cute, I don’t see how this is our first time meeting officially! This is one of my favorite places to just sit and waste time. They have great boba and it’s always decorated for this time of year. Say, do you plan on spending the holidays alo–”
“H-How did you find me?” You cut off his incessant talking and asked bitterly, your eyes trained on the small ripples that made their way through your mug.
The man hummed to himself as if not knowing the answer himself before drumming his fingers on the table and letting out a chuckle. “Well, I tried to ease into this, but I guess there’s no use.” He let out an exaggerated sigh before gripping the ends of the table and straightening his posture.
“You’re carrying his child, aren’t you.”
