Work Text:

The Marauders, out for the night in a smokey London muggle pub, late 70's. They're all rather merry by the time Sirius climbs up on the stage (which is basically half a dozen beer crates shoved hapzardly together), microphone in hand, grinning at his friends like a madman.

"Oh Merlin, no," Remus whispered, colour draining from his face.

The familiar opening to 'Lola' by the Kinks began playing, though the words had been slightly altered by the man up on stage, who was putting on the show of a lifetime.

"I met him in a pub down in old Hogsmeade, where we drank firewhiskey and cherry cola, C-O-L-A

He walked up to me and he asked me to dance,

I asked for his name and in his dark brown voice he said Moony,

M-O-O-N-Y..."

Peter and James could barely breathe with how hard they were laughing, whereas Remus had gone from looking like a ghost to more closely resembling a tomato. He glanced around the room at the pubs' other most decidedly not queer-friendly patrons to check how the song was being received. A few skinheads were frowning, and one shouted out at Remus and his friends, having realised they knew Sirius.

''Ere! 'E's not singin' about a bloke, is 'e?? We don't want none of that in 'ere!!"

Remus's eyes went wide, and he shook his head frantically.

"No, no, course not!! It's err....the nickname he has for his girlfriend, her last name is Moon"

"Oh, righ'"

Remus let out a relieved sigh, thankful that the skinhead only seemed to share a few braincells with his companions. His relief was short-lived, however, as he was thwarted by his boyfriend in the next breath.

"...and I know what I am, and im glad I'm a man, and so is Moony,

M-O-O-N-Y!!!"

"Bollocks" Remus muttered, as he approached the stage to try and lure Sirius back down. Sirius spotted Remus heading towards him and jumped down.

"Moony!! What you reckon then? Did you like my serenade?"

Remus slowly turned around to see the skinhead from earlier looking at him puzzled before it must have twigged, and his expression began to change. Remus grabbed a giggling Sirius, and with James and Peter following closely behind, they legged it to the alley outside before the skinhead finally put 2 and 2 together...

Notes:

We're just going to pretend that karaoke was a thing in the UK in the late 70s.
