Summary
Standing where he had made his first real kill, a sharp thread of pain pulls tight around his hearts.
As if no time at all has passed, there's the flattened circle of razorgrass spreading outward around the fallen bones of the beast.
And, just as he'd remembered, a dark hollow still yawns open beneath a massive dead tree, at the very edge of the deadly, glimmering field.
The only weapons he carries are those he has made here. A whip, coiled at his hip and studded with carefully-selected blades of razorgrass. A blade he'd fashioned from cast-off teeth of a kalisk – his kalisk.
When he steps into the darkness, the earth is cool; sloping steeply downward beneath his feet.
He does not know where he is going.
But Dek of the Yautja feels it.
Home.
(Or: A newly-Blooded Yautja finds the razorgrass dryad whose grove he inadvertently destroyed; chaos and feelings ensue.)
